Ciel approached the matter with little ceremony. There was, after all, only one way to get anything through to a demon, and that was with directness. Certainly, it would spoil the unblemished sweetness of the concept, but that’s all ideals were- a concept. Realizing them meant creasing edges and saying too many words. Once his hands touched anything sweet, it turned sour anyway.
Besides- he was asking for a lie.
If you stick to a lie, it'll eventually become the truth.
“Sebastian.” Ciel didn’t look up from the documents sprawled across his desk as Sebastian appeared before him, armed with a tea set laid out on a platter.
“Yes?”
Ciel set the page he was reading down, mulling over how to phrase his proposa- proposition. He had mere seconds before Sebastian was done pouring his tea and would further prompt him. “It’s a new personal request. Something to be kept between us.”
Sebastian slid the teacup and saucer to Ciel, careful yet effortless so not a drop of the steaming liquid spilled. “As are many things.”

The guy zeroes in on him with such intense focus that Derek kind of wants to run away, or maybe drown in those eyes, or maybe wrap the guy up in cotton and protect him from everything forever. Instead, wracked with indecision and overstimulation, his brain just shuts off. He doesn't know if he's thankful or mad at it for that, because that just leaves him looking into warm honeyed whiskey eyes which are as wide and inviting and beautiful as the day is young.
Cinnamon-spice attraction, tangy lemon curiosity, all wind-swept and coated with wild berries. The smell of him is overwhelming. Considering who he's engaged to, though? The influx of interest on his part is a little worrying and not something Derek wants to trust at all.
Laura is wrinkling her nose, at this point. Derek doesn't necessarily blame her.
His Mom, however, just gives the guy a sharp look before schooling her expression, standing from her chair at Peter's bedside and saying: "Are you Peter's fiancée?"

Young, energetic, and hearts too big for their own good.” Welt sighs. “They didn’t have the time to be selfish, too busy being heroes. So if there is room for you to be selfish, then at least the burdens of the world are not placed on your shoulders.”
“Someone has to be a hero eventually.”
“‘The tragedy does not lie in the sacrifices we’ve made for our victory - it is that we’ve accustomed ourselves to the fact that we must sacrifice someone for our victory,’” Welt recites, an age-old lesson that took him far too long to understand. “If you have something to call your own, that you can be selfish for, then the world has not failed you yet, Dan Heng.”
Dan Heng has nothing to say to that, but Welt thinks that he might get it.
