They had done it. They won. Brad skated to the pile of Panthers players on the ice. He was panting, unable to take deep breaths as he processed what happened. Arms were thrown around him as he was shoved around in celebration. They were yelling, he was yelling. Holy shit they won the cup. His eyes darted around trying to take the cheering of the crowd in. It was nothing like the first time. Back in Vancouver they celebrated but not to this extent. The crowd was almost deafening, the lights blinding.
“God I’m so proud of you.” Patrice finally said. “You did it!” The excitement was back as Brad led him through the crowd of players. He leaned in close right next to Brad’s ear. “You are not allowed to propose to me when you are shit faced.”Basically Brad wins the cup and he has one last thing to do after a season of victories, propose to his boyfriend.

Her face flushes, and if this was any other situation, she would crack a joke, but there's a headache starting to set in at the base of her skull, tears are falling down her face, she's probably getting snot all over McDavid's stupid Oilers hoodie, and she's scared. She's scared because she feels like she has no control over this situation, she feels out of sorts, and she feels nothing like the badass, annoying hockey player she is and a lot like the insecure and lonely 27-year-old she pretends not to be.
It's different, she thinks to herself, standing up to full-grown men on the ice. Playing a game where everyone is in protective gear, thousands of fans are watching, and every player is regarded under the eyes of official rules that explicitly keep players like Matty from having to go through this shit.
