Summary
Morse had been ignoring the pain in his side for weeks now. He was embarrassed to admit how long he had been suffering, and how bad it had got. And underneath the embarrassment was a terror that he didn’t want to face, a fear that something was seriously wrong.

Summary
It would have been wrong to say that Robbie heard anything suspicious outside their door; no, it was this new, rather unsettling (at least at the beginning) sense that had been developing ever since he had first learned that he had magic. “Alright, kiddies, pet, stay put. I need to check something.”

Summary
Robbie was the third Sergeant assigned to DCI Thursday within a year, and he’d quickly realized that, as opposed to station gossip, this was not due to said DCI’s duties as the Chairman of the Council, or the magic and the madness and the mayhem and everything that came with it.

Summary
Sergeant Peter Jakes knew that any of his colleagues would have considered themselves incredibly lucky to have been chosen as DI Thursday’s bagman. The man was not a legend of Cowley station for nothing.
And he did feel lucky. There was just this one thing…
The Thursdays' servant.
Servant. That was what the authorities called them.
Peter supposed it was better, but definitely less honest than slaves. -

Summary
"This was not how Joan expected her family holiday to turn out. It all started the night before they were due to leave. She went downstairs to collect her best summer dress, which was sitting on the sofa, neatly folded and still warm from the iron, courtesy of her mother, but she couldn’t help but overhear snatches of a conversation from the kitchen."
The story of how a small family holiday led to Joan getting much more than she bargained for in the best way possible. -

Had it really been fourteen years since Constance (bless her heart, he thought with a mixture of pity and wistfulness – she would never see her son grown up) had come to him, teary-eyed and scared but determined to do what was best for their child? Some days, Fred could hardly believe it.

Summary
Joan Thursday and Shirley Trewlove are very much deeply in love (and surrounded by love on all sides).
“Morning,” Shirley mumbles finally, stretching with an ungraceful noise, her eyes screwed up tightly before disappearing more fully under the duvet.
Joan snorts. “You won’t get ready for work down there.” She feels Shirley’s forehead against her bare thigh and a groan emanates loudly from the warm shadows of the bed. Joan laughs, lifting her arms so she can stare down into the sepia yellows of the sunlight through their sheets. Shirley’s blonde plait slides off her shoulder and spools across her knee. “Come on, Shirl, up you get.”

Summary
There were many things Fred Thursday had not expected when he had requested to be transferred to Oxford. He certainly could never have foreseen that he would arrest an opera star for murder, and the tiger had been a nasty surprise.
This, however, took the bloody biscuit.
There was a child huddled in a corner of the room he could have sworn he had seen Morse enter only a few moments ago.
He raised his head and Fred’s breath caught in his throat. No. Absolutely impossible.
But he’d have recognised those eyes everywhere.
Forcing himself to stay as calm as he could, he asked, “Morse? Is that you?” -

After the Wessex Bank heist, Joan Thursday puts herself back together.
