For centuries, Heaven began with an event that forever altered the flow of life and death on Earth: the Zhi Jinghua. Every year, on the specific day of the Zhi Jinghua, all living beings—humans and yaoguais—deemed "impure" would perish and cease to exist, supposedly to bring balance to the realms. However, the Zhi Jinghua has brought more misfortune than blessings, and there has been one being who declared war on Heaven for creating such a nefarious and catastrophic event.
This is where Nezha and Erlang Shen come in—monster hunters and the Heavenly Court’s finest line of defense. Sent to assassinate the demon wreaking havoc on Earth—slaying gods and earthly deities, and undermining the Court’s control over the lower realm—they are met with the shocking revelation that this bloodthirsty demon is none other than a monkey wielding a staff and clad in golden armor.
But from the very moment Erlang looked into his eyes, on the verge of taking his life… his hands trembled, and his spear deliberately missed the mark. -

Peace has been restored to Megapolis after the harrowing defeat of the Lady Bone Demon, thanks to the Monkie Kid and his promiscuous friends. With serenity afoot, the demons have fled to the shadows with the idea of Immortals known to the mortal eye. Months have passed, with very little happening and the world at rest, until sudden danger lurks around the corner. Word begins to pick up on the local news of a mysterious substance called "Decay" spreading from island to island off the coast of China—seemingly turning whatever it touches to stone, killing life around it and which, seemingly, cannot be broken, no matter the holy weapon or the power of a vengeful god. Nobody knows of the source of this material, nor does anyone know how to stop the spread of it, causing a tangent of irked fear to fill the public's hearts of the unknown. That is, until one fateful and pouring evening amid April, when a duo of unexpected and unfamiliar faces—a tiny owlet with a deformed wing and a bipedal white feline—stumble into the humble abode of "Pigsy's Noodle Shop," determined to fulfill their quest of stopping the spreading Decay. He didn’t know why he angled his cloud lower.
Didn’t know why he stopped.
Until he saw him.
The boy sat curled between two dumpsters, knees drawn tightly to his chest. His elbows jutted out at odd angles as he tried to make himself smaller, more invisible than he already was. A ragged, too-thin shirt clung to his frame, threadbare enough to show his ribs.

After a freak training accident during MK’s training under the Monkey King, Wukong seems to have gotten amnesia, setting his brain back 1300 years during the Journey to the West…
“Ugh… my head…” he grumbled, frowning deeply, “What kind of demon…”
“Wukong?” Macaque said, his concern showing clearly on his face. “Hey, you okay, Peaches?” the shadow demon asked, examining Wukong’s face and turning it firmly in his hands, frowning when he saw that his glamours had dropped, the most noticeable were Wukong’s blood red eyes. What was more concerning was the glamours that had disappeared around his face. Those were the most important. The king didn’t usually care when someone saw any of his numerous scars, but the circlet’s mark was something else entirely. It wasn’t just some blemish. It was a branding.
...Sun Wukong no longer had his memories. So that begs the question… how will he get them back and how did MK, his student, somehow have enough power to knock these memories out of him in the first place? It just didn’t make any sense, did it?
Not unless there was another force at play.

It would’ve been easier to deal with if Wukong had been there to start with. None of this would’ve happened if he’d just paid attention, got out of his cave, went on the mission. It would've happened smoother, if he just hadn't caved at all.
Or: MK insists on taking Macaque out on good-guy missions, trying to kickstart his 'redemption arc'. Wukong doesn't approve because something can always go wrong--especially with those two. He's proven right when they stumble into his home after one of these outings... with more than one problem on their hands.
