There was the crunch of snow being stepped on.
Both Dad and him shot up, grabbing snowballs as they looked over the fort’s walls.
Dad threw his snowball right away, but Ethan took a moment to scan the surroundings. Seeing that it was just Legend who had made the noise, so Ethan didn’t throw his snowballs.
Thankfully, the snowball that Dad had thrown didn’t hit Legend. It instead landed around a foot away from the fort’s walls and rolled another two.
“Are you going to let go of that bit?” Ethan asked as he watched Legend run forward to pick up the snowball. Legend then bit down and the snowball fell apart.
“What bit?” Dad asked.
“The bit where you don’t throw the snowball that far and you miss.” Ethan shrugged. “I know you were missing your shots before to be funny, but we have to put our all into this if we want to win.”
“Yes… it was all a bit… I could throw accurately if I wanted to… yeah.”
Ethan stared at him. And then silently pushed a pile of uncondensed snow in Dad’s direction.
“You can just be in charge of making the ammunition.”
“Good idea…”

They swam towards the direction of where the glowing light circle had been. They went as fast as they could.
A school of fish started swimming towards them. They flapped their flippers in a panic, trying to get away.
Except the fish didn’t hurt them.
No. Instead they swam around them. Light from above the water was shining through the surface and onto their scales.
Reds, pinks, purples, oranges.
They stopped moving their flippers and let the current the school of fish were making from swimming carry them.
The fish swam around them, almost as if saying welcome to the world.
What a strange, beautiful, new world, they thought to themselves as the colorful rainbow of iridescent scales floated around them.
Or: the story of the life of the turtle, from the turtle’s pov. From hatchling to a juvenile making new friends to a grown adult in a lonely, strange world.

“Awwwwwww!” Ethan bent down and started petting the puppy as he ran around Ethan’s legs. “He’s so cute!”
The puppy had a white belly and legs, with white fur taking up most of his snout. His back and the top of his head was brown. When the puppy’s tail slowed down in its wagging for a second, Ethan could see that it was dark brown at the base with the rest of it being white.
Looking closer at the puppy, Ethan could see that it only had one foreleg. The left one was missing.
“Hey, Dad!” Ethan carefully picked up the puppy and held him up to Dad. “Why don't we adopt him?”

He had never considered it before. Did… did Diazo ever want to get closer to him in that way.
Ethan felt his face go numb and he quickly wiped his hands on the covers to hide how clammy they had gotten so suddenly.
Surely… surely not… but. Even if he did. That was a good thing! Right? It was a sign that Diazo was comfortable enough with him and wanted to take their relationship further.
But… if it was a good thing, then why didn’t he feel the same about it? If it was meant to be a sign that they were comfortable with each other, why did he feel sick at even the thought of it?
If Diazo was comfortable with the idea already, then he should as well, right? Right?! It has been a year after all. But in all that time Ethan had been dating Diazo— no. Known Diazo, he’d never felt that way about him. Or about anyone else for that matter.
Or: Asexual Ethan and Asexual Diazo! There is a little bit of angst due to a misunderstanding, but don’t worry! They talk and work it out and end up just cuddling at the end <3
