Summary
It was supposed to be a one-night stand.
When Jayce and Viktor meet for a fleeting, drunken night together, neither of them expect to ever see the other again — let alone end up working side by side on the groundbreaking project that will change Piltover forever. Viktor’s scowl deepens. “That is not what I meant, and you know it,” he says suddenly. The rush of English out of his mouth takes a second for Jayce to register. Whoever it is on the other end of the line evidently has to take a moment too. Viktor presses on. “Well, they can do whatever it is they want. My place is here.”
Jayce’s chest tightens. He debates about slipping back to their room. He doesn’t need to hear the other voice on the phone to know who Viktor might be speaking to.
In the few phone calls he’s managed to have with his family, they have been either curt and short, or long and pointed. Regardless of what kind of phone call he might have, Viktor always comes out of it with a shadow cast across his face.

Viktor is grateful for the broken laboratory windows and the blue-black midnight that cools the unexpected heat rising in his cheeks. “You said a great many things.”
“Partners.” It’s unbearable, the way he says it. Worse, still, when Jayce levers himself upright and concentrates all the warmth of that thousand-megawatt smile on Viktor. “Hextech partners, you and me - that is… I mean, if you…”
Viktor lifts a sardonic eyebrow, the corner of his mouth twitching. “You are in luck,” he hums, careful to keep his voice even. "It would appear that I am, eh… how do you say? On the market for a job."
