Foolish snorts. “Oh, please, we’re not pirates.” He offers Eret his arm. They take it. “And, it’s not kidnapping if you’re willingly running away with us.”
“But it would make a much more exciting story, wouldn’t it?”
After escaping their going-nowhere apprenticeship in the capitol with celebrity mage Dream, Eret joins the trade ship Red Queen as an alchemist, weaponsmith, and healer in order to improve their craft. It reminds them all too much of how they became Dream’s apprentice, betraying their old troupe - the L’Manberg Players - to join him, but find it far, far more fulfilling.
When the Red Queen returns to the capitol for a masquerade ball, Eret must confront not only the consequences of running away from someone so powerful, but with their past as well. The Merchants’ Gala attracts people from all over, and the crew of the Red Queen isn’t the only traveling band of misfits in attendance.
