When the news brakes of billionaire Orion Black's arrest, Sirius Blacks life is thrown into shambles, even more so when a day later he is woken up in the middle of the night by his mother moving him and Regulus to London before Orion can make it back to Grimmauld on bail.
Luckily, James lives in London, so Sirius has a friend.

What the fuck is a paddy? It kind of sounds like that nickname Sirius sometimes had written around Sirius' room. Then it clicked; the kid does mean Sirius' nickname, Padfoot. The stupid nickname he and his band of marauders, as they called themselves, came up with. So that means this kid must belong to one of them. Clearly, it is not Sirius. Remus is definitely gay, so that's a no. And this kid looks nothing like Peter. That only leaves…
Oh fuck his life. This is James Potter's kid. The hair, the grin, the massive amounts of unused energy radiating off him.

I stopped because, well, JKR is JKR. I don’t want her to have any more of an active platform than she already has.

Sirius runs away after his 5th year. He goes to the Potters. Before, James and him start their 6th year. Sirius asks James to do something for him. He asks James to take care of Regulus. James obviously accepts because Sirius is his best friend.
James starts getting closer and closer to Regulus. One night he realized he likes Regulus.
What does James do? He kisses Regulus two nights later. The next night he throws a party to forget about Regulus. Did it work? Of course not because Regulus went to the party.
They kiss again, and that leads to... you know.
The day after the party, Regulus and James continue to talk and kiss. They go to Astronomy Tower as usual. They never talked about what they were.
A few days later, Sirius finds out. Someone saw James and Regulus kissing at the party. What does Sirius do? He forces James to stop seeing him and start dating Lily. James wasn't even allowed to tell or properly break up with Regulus.
