The world of UNDERSWAP is a derivative one, a place where characters you're familiar with can live out new lives, do different things, but always retain that sense of identity and familiarity you're accustomed to, while not straying too far into newness.
We see for ourselves how this is not that uncommon a behavior, a world similar to this one has the main character be named Kris instead of Frisk. Submerging yourself in the opportunity of this, understanding the lengths to which you may cling onto it, is a fearsome thing.
What makes this world so special, is the question? What makes it worth doing, clinging onto this feeling?
A skeleton guides you through the underworld, and he chooses whether or not you may pass from one world to the next.

They had begged the brothers to take them sledding in the morning, just after they’d unpacked their belongings into the skeletons’ home after dinner. A temporary stay for the Holidays, one they had likewise begged their mother for. It wasn’t hard, as she and Sans were already close friends. What was difficult was getting the two skeletons to agree to the activity.
Chara had pleaded and whined despite Sans having put his foot down. Then they mentioned that they’d never been before in their entire life and everything changed. The next morning, Chara found themselves atop a large trashcan lid with some regrets. The brothers reassured them multiple times that it was perfectly safe, something the two had done since they were babybones.Series
