“Messy little thing,” his voice came down and honeyed. Then, he swept his damped bangs aside, pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket, and tapped it gently on his forehead. He tilted his head, glancing at him. In a split second, Xia Fei was filled with a strange sensation, as if the redhead could see through his soul. He felt vulnerable, exposed. A hint of doubt flashed through the blond’s eyes, and he subconsciously uttered “Who are you?”
He carefully folded the piece of cloth and put it back in his coat pocket, his facial features softened, the smile still plastered to his lips. “I am who you want me to be,” he walked in circles around him, ogling him. “Your boss, your confidant, your friend…” he whispered in the shell of his ear “...your lover.”
Xia Fei’s world has turned upside down since Vein’s death. As much as he tries to keep it together, it’s hard when his mother is dealing with a terminal disease. One day, he receives the visit of a detective who challenges him to confront his past. What will Xia Fei do? Overcome his former boss’s demise or unravel the mystery that surrounds it?

I like how Link Click somewhat tackles the issues of Xia Fei being seen only for his appearance. I think it adds so much more to his character.

Xia Fei was decidedly frustrated at this development, more so with his own reaction to it. He keeps glancing over to him, admiring in some way he couldn’t describe. Though, everytime he catches himself staring with a bit too much interest in more than just work chatter, the other would open his mouth and dissolve any of that attraction.. Or so Xia Fei convinced himself. That wasn’t working this time, maybe it was the alcohol in his system or Liu Xiao’s or something about how he was speaking but even his voice, his words, didn't get rid of that feeling

Swung by an angry man, which harnessed more strength in the movement than Xia Fei likely would have dealt with sober, but Xia Fei couldn’t even move from even if he chose to in his state.

In his defense, Xia Fei hadn’t messaged his boyfriend, who was still at work and presumably busy, knowing it would turn into sexting — however, he wasn’t opposed to the idea in the slightest.

The sunflowers sat in their vase by the window, blooming beautifully. Vein had given them to him, a splash of gold against the dull world, a ray of light to his empty world. He couldn’t look at them now. Their vibrant petals were a mockery, a cruel reminder that something Vein had touched could still exist when he himself had been erased. The smell of sunflowers used to remind Xia Fei of warmth, of late afternoons filled with lazy laughter. Now, even the faintest whiff of them made his stomach churn, bile rising in his throat, threatening to spill out in sobs.
Even dahlias—Vein’s favorite flower, flowers that he had often gifted to Vein, flowers that he had kept right beside the sunflowers as a symbol of a promise Vein had made—made him want to throw the vase against a wall, scream, beg, and plead for Vein to just come back to life. Please, don’t leave me here alone. He promised he would keep Xia Fei safe, be by his side when needed; so why wasn’t he here when Xia Fei needed him the most?
