Summary
Noah Czerny nearly drowns himself in the lake on the day he turns sixteen.
It’s an accident, but at the same time, it isn’t.
He knows that he should try to swim to the surface. The water rises above his head, above a swirling halo of platinum blonde hair—nearly white—hair that reflects the sun, and he stops trying so hard. The lake is deep, and Noah lets himself sink until he’s near the bottom where the kelp tickles his feet. He wants it to wrap around his ankle and pull him down and keep him there. There’s a cut across his cheek, deep and gushing, and he knows it’s rising to the surface.
Something stupid in him tells him to stay. Something logical in him tells him to go home.
