It’s all natural too, so it won’t look weird if people use the map system. We can use lava to make sure the light inside the cave looks natural.” Phil came down from his perch, patting the other immortal on the shoulder. “Good job Foosh. Let’s set up our base and finally empty out the inventory. I am tired of carrying all these materials.”

The realization hit him like a freight train, and he wasn’t fast enough to tell Rei to stop, to force the words back into his mouth so they weren’t spoken into existence, as if maybe the truth could be forestalled for another time, another day, when Kaoru was prepared, but his plea came too late.
“...attending my omiai.”
Kaoru’s mind went white.

A half empty can of cola and an instant noodles pot denounced that Kaname's last meal wasn't as ideal as he told his brother. There also laid an open script, scribbled with notes all over. Himeru could imagine it perfectly, Kaname sitting right there, eating industrialized food and trying to rush his overdue tasks during his only free time. The image came so clearly to his mind, it felt wrong to see that seat empty. Felt like something that should be there was ripped off, an artificial hole on a photo album.
Himeru should probably feel sad. His imagination was too vivid for his own good, and the contrasting emptiness of reality could make someone break down right there. But Himeru felt nothing.
When Kaname is hospitalized, it's his brother who has to take care of everything, including his belongings. The visit to Kaname's dorm room was planned to be quick and efficient, but Himeru finds more than he expected there.
