Summary
Two years after the Zero Requiem, the world has gone to hell. Following the assassinations of Empress Nunnally and Prince Schneizel, Norland von Lunebelg seized control over the Britannian Empire, and launched a world-wide war against the other major powers. Now he stands on the cusp of his final victory, and all hope seems lost. The UFN has been shattered, Japan is once more a nation under occupation, and the Black Knights are a shell of their former selves. The world peace that Lelouch vi Britannia sacrificed his life for has been undeniably lost, and with it, the dream for a better and brighter tomorrow.
Enter Anya Alstreim, the last hope of humanity.
Presented with a Geass that can change the past, Anya finds herself thrown back in time to before Lelouch ever donned the mask of Zero. Tragedy often begets tragedy. Originally, the deaths of Shirley Fenette and Euphemia li Britannia served to crush the spirits of Suzaku Kururugi and Lelouch vi Britannia. With their mental states in turmoil, the two boys were led down dark paths, committing crime after crime and ultimately forsaking their lives. Though it led to a gentler world, too many innocents were dead and too many guilty parties had escaped. And their legacies would ultimately be those of monsters.

Summary
In a new tactic to get closer to Cornelia, Lelouch orders the Black Knights to target the white and gold Britannian knightmare frame in an all-out attack. The plan succeeds, but Lelouch later discovers it was at a great cost; becoming shaken to the core when he learns that it was Suzaku piloting the knightmare, sustaining severe injuries and now left in critical condition directly from Lelouch’s command.
Now faced with a difficult decision, Lelouch finds himself torn between his duties as Zero, leading the Black Knights, and his loyalty to his friend, who may not survive his injuries. As Suzaku fights for his life and grapples with his own mortality and his desire for a noble death, Lelouch must confront the consequences of his actions and decide where his true priorities lie: leading his rebellion, or being there for his injured friend.

Subconsciously, the soldier wonders how someone so incredibly intelligent can be so incredibly dumb. Consciously, he replies, “why would you assume I would join you?”
Lelouch looks stunned. “Well… I mean, you and I can do anything together. Remember?” His voice, so much deeper than the soldier remembers it being when they were little, raises in pitch and shakes a bit as he says, “S-Suzaku…?”
“You took a huge gamble by doing what you did for me,” the brunet sighs, nudging the mask with his foot. “And I’m sure you considered every single possible outcome when you chose to do it. Except for me rejecting you.”
