And if you were to ask it, him, he would tell you that deviancy affected him little, changed little. But when his partner, Gavin, is injured in an accident (it's fault in the first place) RK900… experiences a normal amount of stress relative to the experience. Weeks after the Android Revolution, with tensions between Androids and Humans tense, Hank and Connor are sent to investigate Android bodies that keep turning up.
Dealing with processing feelings, as well as whatever new role he is to play, Connor is eager to help.However with the way Deviants are dropping like flies they quickly realize that it's not an Android hating human behind the killings, it's another Android. Perplexed by this news Connor is all the more ready to find the culprit before tensions rise to high, or before a Human gets hurt.
Gavin Reed was not expecting to be dragged along to help, but after eyewitnesses point their fingers to Connor being behind the murders, he's paired with a disgruntled Hank to try and clear Connor's name, as well as find the actual killer.
They did not expect to find a machine not so unlike Connor behind it.Will this Deviant killing Machine be freed of his programming? Will they succeed in clearing Connor's name? Does Gavin even truly care?

In the aftermath of a peaceful revolution, Detective Gavin Reed has to adjust when it comes to his work relations. The assholish version of Anderson's android gets assigned as his new partner. Not only that, but an assholish android who deems it necessary to not only question Gavin's professionalism but also invades his personal life. Ironically, the deviant may have a better grasp of living than Gavin Reed does.
What is there to say when you realize the machines you mistreated are no more a monster than you are?

The RK900 thought this would be a simple task. Prove his invaluableness to the precinct, solve cases, and move up as quickly as possible. Annoying his partner was just a treat on top of an already perfect plan. But Gavin Reed may be the one mystery Nines can't solve. Especially when it turns out that the detective and the android may have more in common than he initially thought.

After the end of the Revolution and the successful establishment of New Jericho, RK900 has lost his only purpose yet again. When directed to find a new one, he settles on journalism - the only other pursuit he thinks worth his time.
However, the public, and a certain Gavin Reed - a once-respected journalist, are finding it... difficult... to accept the tides of change.

Connor knew he wasn’t particularly good at things. He failed Amanda, failed Markus…and now he was failing at deviancy as well. Perhaps he was better off being a machine. Even Hank was bound to become fed up of him at some point. He expected it, but he hadn’t anticipated the pain that would accompany it. He supposed he deserved it.
His voice became louder, harsher, colder with every word. The more he spoke the more disoriented he got, and the more lost in memories of Cole- crash, hospital, androids, death- he became. Androids. androids causing problems in his life. Always ruining anything good he could possibly have in his life. How could he have forgotten? Looking at Connor now, seeing the yellow-red light spinning on his temple, he didn’t know how he ever saw a person in someone so obviously…synthetic. Mechanical. Always sat with an unnaturally straight posture, speaking like an awkward fucking thesaurus, never understanding jokes, expression never changing except for an uncomfortable, wonky smile that didn’t suit his face at all.

After the Revolution, Detroit slowly established a new Status Quo. Even total assholes had to admit that there might be something to androids being alive, so Gavin Reed had decided. Which did not mean he was at all fine with Fowler assigning RK900 as his parter. Android or no, Gavin didn't do well with partners and his penchant for insults and violent outburst was no secret. RK900, determined to do a good job and integrate well into his new precinct would counter Gavin's behavior and ensure that he would be respected.

“Nines,” the voice is borderline pleading, now. “Please, just look at me. You can’t isolate yourself forever.”
If Nines wasn’t so busy giving Connor the silent treatment, he would’ve scoffed. He keeps his gaze stubbornly fixed on the far end of his cell, paying no heed to his unprecedented visitor and sparing them both the pleasantries of a confrontation neither of them ever wanted.
“Visiting hours are almost over.” Connor’s irritatingly sincere tone filters through his auditory units, like water on rock. “Come on, Nines, please talk to me. I’m worried—”
“Don’t lie to me.” The words are curt, cutting through the palpable tension in the air with the sharpness of a knife. In his peripheral vision, he sees Connor startle at the interruption, clearly not expecting to actually receive a response. “If you were so concerned for my well-being, you would have visited sooner.”
(Or: Nines is incarcerated for the crimes he'd committed prior to deviating. He's lonely, and it definitely shows. Connor feels remorseful, and so he visits his successor. It's awkward, but they somehow manage.

Gavin Reed isn’t a big fan of the whole “android revolution” and he doesn’t try to hide that fact from the people around him. It’s like people have lost their f’cking minds all of a sudden. Androids are so… fake. “Uncanny” was a good word for it. Gavin thinks it was bad enough when Connor showed up acting like a f’cking puppy with an anxious attachment disorder– following Hank around everywhere and taking care of his every need like a nursebot or whatever they’re called. But Connor’s aggravating personality paled in comparison to the puffed-up attitude of his successor– the RK900.
Despite his wishes to stay as far away from this thing as possible, the RK900 is assigned to be his partner. Together, Gavin and RK900 discover their murder investigation goes deeper than either of them expected. As they uncover more and more about the mission, Gavin dives into his own investigation about the RK900’s true purposes. The real question is: can the RK900 escape what he’s been programmed to do before it’s too late?
