It's a horrible kind of hot summer, when the humidity is so thick you can feel the moisture in every breath and just stepping outside is enough to get your shirt to stick to you. The air is thick with buzzing bugs that she swats through even though it does nothing, and even though she's spent most of the summer wandering around the local woods with the Winchesters, even though what counts for woods in Nebraska is less densely populated trees than it is a large, tall oaks spread far apart with a few clinging to the riverbed.

So this one was inspired by the song "Something Blue" by VIOLAThe idea is that Dean and Cas were childhood sweethearts. Having to hide who they are from everyone because neither of their families would approve. They make promises to each other. They hope to one day just run away together and actually get married. Childish fantasies, Cas thinks, not taking Dean seriously when he says Cas is IT for him
Especially when John gives Dean a choice when he's 18. Either stay in town and be an adult. Or come with him and Sam on another road trip. And Sam comes first above everything else
Dean makes a promise to come back, but Cas doesn't believe him. But he indulges the idea and tells Dean he'll wait
That was 10 years ago, and Cas did wait. Stupidly, he did. Only until his family set him up with a nice young woman named Daphnie, who promises to make an 'honest man' out of him. His family hopes a marriage would cure Cas of his... desires
And Cas accepts. If nothing else, it'll make his family happy.
A week before the wedding, though, Dean comes back to town

Jo was used to men waving to her, or occasionally patting her on the head or back. Never once did they give her a handshake. Stranger yet, once he had her hand, he pulled her in closer for a hug.
Jo didn't know who he was at the time. She was a teenager when she finally discovered the truth. Still, she didn't feel like she was hugging a stranger. John pulled her in so closely, so warmly, so tightly that she really did believe him when he said he was her uncle, even though her mom had never mentioned any relatives at all. Somehow, every cell inside her body cried out that they shared the same blood.
John pulled back and looked at her again, his eyes almost teary. He must have made some mistake. No one had any reason to look at Joey like that. No one cared about the quiet, skinny boy sitting in the corner of the bar. That was the face of a man who found the mysterious young lady he was looking for. “It's nice to meet you,” he repeated again. “It's been a very, very long time.”
“Thank you,” Jo said, but it didn't feel like enough. She was just some kid. He acted like he found a treasure.

After Dean's first hunt went terribly wrong, John gave up custody of his sons, sending Dean to live with Ellen Harvelle and leaving Sam with Pastor Jim Murphy. By the time this alternate Season 1 begins, Sam has become an accomplished exorcist while at Stanford, and Dean is still living and working at the Roadhouse, determined that he will never be a hunter.
Then John leaves Sam a strange voicemail and goes missing.
