When a stray TCN ship is captured by the Affini, its jaded medic Penny and defected pilot Birch are separated.
As Penny tries to save her clearly brainwashed comrade and flee the Affini Compact, she finds that standing between them and escape are parts of herself she didn't know existed.
Birch finally finds himself safe from the clutches of the Terran Cosmic Navy, but being free is a much more complicated matter.
