Summary
So maybe getting trapped in ice a few days ago hadn't been the best for a merperson who was still figuring out how life entirely above the surface worked. Jimmy didn't really understand it. All he knew was that a few days ago Scott had started coughing, yesterday he'd felt hot, and today when they'd woken up in the evening to begin their flight North once again, he just...hadn't woken up. His breaths were rattling, his eyes wouldn't open, and this wasn't it. This wasn't how Jimmy could bear to have this go, this fragile beloved person he'd found who said those words he hadn't heard, hadn't been allowed to remember, for seven long years. He needed to find help. He needed to find something, anything, that might change this, because fate had already been cruel enough...please, don't also take away his beloved before he could even manage to admit his own name.
But who would ever help a runaway avian?
{In which Scott has fever dreams, Jimmy has anxiety, but that's not news, Martyn's lucky he bought some citrine, and Ren is semi-fluent in avian distress noises.}
