Summary
It starts for Maverick in a different way than it did for his grandparents, mother, and uncles.
Pete gets a diagnosis, the one his mother should have had. Emery-Dreifuss Muscular Dystrophy. That’s the name they gave it. EDMD. A fancy name for a death sentence, a label for the slow destruction of his body. The same slow death that killed his grandmother, his mother, and her brothers. That same goddamn monster that his family’s been battling for generations.
It starts differently for him, yes. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to end any differently.
