    Boba's own hair has begun to grow back in, he’s recently discovered. It is a little patchy now, but as it gets longer, it will cover up the scars and the gaps. He pulls his hand through Din’s in the meantime and watches him shift his cheek against the bedclothes.

    The galaxy has taught him the name for what he feels when he looks at him these days. It has also taught him that he is not allowed to have that thing.

    If he does, it will be taken away.

    (Boba and Fennec find each other and then Din, and Boba struggles to let himself have the kindness that comes his way.)

    “That’s a fine thing to picture,” Cobb says. “You all done up like a bride. In fancy wedding silks and a veil.”

    Din tries to imagine that. His face not obscured by the metal of his helmet, but the gossamer drape of a veil instead. Maybe it’s how his face exists in Cobb’s mind anyway, something just shy of having form, shifting and fading before Cobb can settle on any kind of assumption. In Cobb’s head, he could flit from dark-eyed and dark-haired to fair and freckled in an instant. A thousand versions of himself all existing at once, together and apart. 

    (or: Din learns how to be a person, and falls in love along the way)
