Neal pulled back from kissing her fiercely against the door of his apartment and murmured, “You know, you never did tell me what you wanted,” he said. He pressed another kiss to her mouth, and then a few down the side of her neck. “Is this my answer?”
“What do you think?” she asked, only half-succeeding in a coy tone with her quickened breathing.
“I think,” he said, his lips still ghosting over her skin, “that’s what I say when I’m avoiding telling the truth.”
“Then there’s your answer.”
He grinned, taking that as an answer, and his lips landed back on hers. She enjoyed their little verbal dance here just as much as their quick-witted conversation at the bar. It was a little ambiguous, a little sexy, and in no way honest, and it would become the framework for their entire tumultuous relationship.
Nothing good ever comes from her feelings for Neal in the end, no matter how fun it is at the time. Yet somehow, she can't resist getting caught up in his whirlwind, somehow always ending up back in his life.

Fic that actually addresses the dehumanization of Neal in the criminal justice system and how messed up the power dynamics of Neal and Peter’s friendship are. Lovely and amazingly written 10/10
