When Joe’s bag gave way, spilling all its contents on the corridor floor, it took every ounce of willpower not to fall on his knees and weep like a child.
Of course, Hana had finally settled down in her carrier, and she continued to sleep despite the crash of a half dozen cans of baby formula hitting the carpet, so Joe merely blinked back unshed tears and took a deep breath, finding his key and unlocking his flat. He left the door ajar as he carefully put Hana’s carrier on the sofa and quickly went back to retrieve the scattered cans.
After the tragic passing of his omega sibling, alpha Joe got custody of his newborn niece. Unfortunately, things weren’t progressing as well as they should and now Joe has found himself in dire need of a wet nurse.

He had a very well-polished and established response to these situations, which Yusuf loved to put him into. His hands ended up on his hips without his brain registering his muscles' move.

Joe must have caught on, or maybe hadn’t, because the next words that came out of his mouth were, “It’s such a cute puppy!”
Two things ran through Nicky’s mind. One, he loved that idiot of a husband of his. Second, he was ready to murder him again.

Of course, they get into trouble.

"Yeah, it's good," Joe agreed without meaning it, but he took a bite out of courtesy.
It was fine. Nothing more. Nicky could've cooked this dish a hundred times better – had, in fact, done it many times – with his eyes closed and a hand tied behind his back. Joe grimaced at the memory of Nicky serving him a plate full of delicious pasta with one of his little smiles Joe had loved from the minute he'd met him.
'You need to stop thinking about him,' rang Quynh's voice in his head.

“I love you,” Nicky declared simply. “I may not have your gift for poetry, Joe, but know that nevertheless my love for you is without limits. Never forget, you are my one constant upon this earth as well. My entire existence has been defined through your presence, and without you I would not know myself.”
Joe reached for him, sliding both hands under the hem of Nicky’s shirt to touch him, skin to skin. He encouraged Nicky to lie down, draped over Joe’s body, and Nicky acquiesced without hesitation. Close, warm. Alive. Joe wrapped his arms around him tight, and whispered to Nicky’s ear:
“Doesn't that ever terrify you?”
