Summary

It can be said that no tale truly ends. Every little ripple cast by the stone of it begins a new chapter, pulling away from the main thread and unwinding to new lands. When it comes to Gods, this is doubly true. If people are stones, Gods are great boulders, hurling towards the calm waters. It will not take long at all for the ripples to form a tidal wave, even if the rock has sunk to rest.
This particular tidal wave is one of destruction, a tragedy of sorts that could’ve been avoided in many ways, yet was inevitable in many more.
It’s the story of Gods, ghosts, and a jealous heart left to yearn.

Sasuke saw below the surface, but not quite so deeply, that Naruto’s life isn't the picture perfect portrait the village perceived it to be. Perhaps he hadn't looked further because he was afraid of what he'd find. Of putting his heart on the line again.
So he ran. Keeping his distance made it more bearable, being so close but unable to touch–
Still it killed him, slowly. Sweetly. And apparently it killed Naruto too.
The man who Sasuke hasn’t been able to label as anything other than my One and Only all but whimpers,
“Now it's all just too late.”
He's devastating.
