Summary
Everything stopped when he started crossing the street. He must have stopped right in the middle, he could feel the whiz of a too close too fast car and hear the cursing and honking that it came with. But like a dog whistle above everything else, he could hear hurt wheezing, and when he looked closer it wasn’t Alex’s bouncing leg that refused to settle until he was behind a drum set but instead a limp arm with a hand that was a little too red to be pink clinging to the ground.
/He unearths the rest of his body from the boys, pulling himself into a sitting position. He feels strange being there, being in the inner sanctum of this all. Being a part of the tangle of limbs and the soft nighttime words. Strange, but it’s a nice feeling, exactly like the photos he loves taking. Like he’s in on a secret that wants to be shared with the rest of the world but is reserved for only a special few. It feels like living out some sort of legend, and he’s not sure if this one will stand the test of time or whether it’ll be buried like so many other stories to history./
orBobby decides to go get street dogs. He's too late. With flashbacks of a time when things felt a little bit easier.

1. Alex was friends with Bobby because Luke was friends with him, and Luke was friends with Bobby for the same reason most of the Freshmen were friends with Bobby—because he had a car and a license. Reggie was friends with him because he didn’t like to be left out of things.
2. Bobby was popular and smart, too, although he acted like a tool some of the time. While Reggie daydreamed, Alex sweated and Luke doodled in the corner of his notebook, Bobby could answer any question the teachers threw him with precision and grace. He was athletic, although not as fast as Luke, he was charming, although not as girl-crazy as Reggie.
