Summary
Remember, all the government posters say, it was the Marked that destroyed the world.
The Old World was lost to famine and calamity and a new, harsher one has risen in its place. A city divided into sectors, ruled by a king and his chaebol court, where the Marked struggle to eke out a living in poverty and oppression, and one mistake can get you sanctioned forever - lost to hard labor in the factories and greenhouses or to life as a companion trapped in the gilded apartments of the inner sector elite.
But a revolution is stirring in the shadows and everything is about to change.

ooooooh my god this is. definitely a piece of work. rly like how the characters, above all, are so human in this. also enjoyed seeing the glimpses of suga w/ the underground rebellion before everything. everyone's so vulnerable in this fic. but they keep fighting. and they don't give in.

i'm reading this again and it's still one of the best stories i've read – i love the characterization of all the members, especially the way they each fight against the dystopian setting in their own way as parts of a whole. everyone has their own role to play.
it's about those affected by oppression but also about those within the system, too; that seokjin, the one arguably most embedded in the power plays of the sector, was the one who turned against the abuse and suggested the coup. it's about not standing for such blatant disregard for humanity and not giving in no matter what.
all the relationships in this come together so organically; yg, hs, and nj by finding comfort in each other; th and jk with their quiet persistence; jm and sj connecting stripping away their masks.
i'll come back to this one again and again -

Even though he knows he shouldn't, even though it breaks all of his rules, Loki is drawn to him and decides to step in. Maybe he can do something to change the doomed course of Bucky's story. Maybe just this once it's okay if he doesn't know how the story ends.
