When she looks at him like this, shrouded in the light of the setting sun like an angel, she’s fleetingly reminded of what she’d been so close to losing and what she’s lost. Quietly, she creeps up to him, barely making any noise as she walks across the wooden floorboards.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Alina asks, putting her hands on Mal’s shoulders. The shoulders beneath her palms shudder a little as if shocked by a rod of electricity, and Alina cannot help but feel a pang of guilt for her actions. It’s too much too soon, she scolds herself. Way to go, Starkova.
