    "Then have a think about my question." Maedhros returns his hand to his shoulder. "Why am I the general of our forces? Why do I make sure we can fight?"

    Ereinion stares at the floor for a few moments. "Because…because if something were to go wrong, we would be ready," he says eventually. "So we can defend ourselves." He looks up at Maedhros. "Right?"

    Maedhros skims his knuckles over his cheeks. "Correct. I learned to fight so I could defend the people I love. Sometimes that meant taking the fight to the enemy before they brought it to us, but it was always for Atto, and your uncles, and all these people around us." He tweaks Ereinion's nose again, delighting in his son's affronted squawk. "And now you. This is your first lesson."

    Ereinion looks at him from between hands sheltering his nose from further harm. "What is?"

    Maedhros holds out the small, blunted blade, balanced across one palm and one wrist. "Always, always, know why you're picking up a weapon to fight. If you don't know, then don't do it."

    This is a bunch of one shots set in my au, following on from the events in He Who Sheds His Blood With Me. I just wanted to show all those little behind the scenes moments of how the Alliance and Death Squadron could possibly learn to work together. And those problems pale in comparison to the Skywalkers working out their problems. :) Admittedly, Piett is my favorite, so he'll feature.
    Also, the Lady Ex has her own opinions as well. Just a heads up.
