Chapter Text
“It’s still unclear where All Might’s sidekicks, Rabbit, Febricity, and Hacker have run off too.”
“Existential damage is still being repaired to buildings in Musutafu city.”
“People are beginning to doubt our Number One’s intentions as a hero. A few months back it was reported his son went missing, yet there have been no updates.”
“The fight between All Might and Endeavor has gone viral! People have been theorizing what All Might meant when he spoke about the Number One’s son.”
“All Might has been apprehended and taken into custody. His capture is thanks to Number One Hero Endeavor. His sidekicks are still MIA.”
“There have been no sightings of Rabbit or his comrades since All Might was arrested. Could it be they no longer have any will to target heroes? Or are they afraid of being apprehended without All Might to defend them?”
“There’s been talk of the three sidekicks being manipulated into helping All Might. Have the three returned to their families and it’s all being hidden from the public? Do the police know the three’s real identities?”
“After All Might’s arrest, his three sidekicks disappeared from the battle, nowhere to be found. Did they run away?”
The tv turned off. His eyes slowly opened as he became aware of his surroundings.
“I hate reporters. They always twist the truth.”
He looked over at the person standing near him, remote in their hand. He looked away from them, eyes focusing on the ground instead. More specifically, the ground he could see from his hospital bed. “Midoriya.” He looked over at the person, startled slightly.
“I know why you’re here already, Eraserhead.” His voice was a bit gravely.
The hero raised an eyebrow. “Enlighten me, then.”
“You’re here to arrest me, right?” He inquired, lips pulled into a frown as he slowly became more awake. The hero shook his head, closing the door to the hospital room.
“Actually, I’m not. I’m here to offer something to you and Todoroki.” He said. “But there’s one more person we’re waiting for.” The hero fell silent.
Izuku was left to his thoughts. Everything from the past couple days were fuzzy. He wasn’t entirely sure how he ended up in the hospital. All he remembered was Yagi fighting against Endeavor and getting burned and Shou-
He looked down at himself, seeing the bandages wrapped around his chest. He had forgotten that he was hit by some of Endeavor’s flames. So had Shouto, but he was hit in a worse spot then Izuku had been.
“Izuku, my baby!” Inko Midoriya cried, throwing the door to the hospital room open. Izuku looked over at her, startled by her sudden appearance. “I was so worried! You weren’t answering your phone and I thought you went missing a-and then the hospital called and told me you were here!” She sobbed, practically collapsing on Izuku’s bed. Izuku held onto her hands gently, trying to reassure her that he was alright.
He saw Eraserhead awkwardly standing off to the side. Was the hero not good with crying people? Ignoring the thought, Izuku turned his attention to his mother when he heard her cries die down. Sniffling, she pushed herself up to look at him. “You’ve got a lot of explaining to do, young man.” She said. Izuku sweat dropped and winced a bit in fear.
“He does.” Eraser cut in, causing Inko to turn to him.
“W-Who are you?” She asked.
“Pro hero Eraserhead. I’m the one who brought your son here. I have a proposal from U.A’s principal that I’d like to discuss with you, but I think Midoriya should explain everything that led us to this moment.” Inko looked at her son, waiting for his explanation. As he began, she took a seat next to his bed and listened.
She listened to him as he told her about that fateful day back in middle school, when the number one hero crushed his dreams. He told her of how he saved Kacchan and was approached by Yagi, who gave him hope for the first time. Izuku explained to her how he became Rabbit. She listened as she learned that Izuku was able to help Shou, because of Yagi. She learned that Izuku had finally made not one, but two friends thanks to his mentor. Part of her wanted to thank Yagi for giving her son something that even she hadn’t been able to give him. The other part of her wanted to scold him for involving her son in such a dangerous world.
Izuku went on to explain how he and Shou fought the hero killer and saved a U.A student from making a grave mistake. He told her about everything that led up to the fight between All Might and Endeavor. Inko listened to every word, more and more emotions hitting her like tidal waves. When he stopped speaking, Izuku looked down at his lap. She took a small breath and spoke.
“Oh, Izuku…” Inko murmured, pulling her son into a hug. “While I’m upset you lied to me, thank you for telling me all of this, Izuku.” She said and that’s when Izuku’s tear gates opened and he cried. He apologized repeatedly for keeping everything from her, telling her that he didn’t want to worry her. She held him the entire time, consoling him.
When Izuku calmed down, Eraserhead spoke. “Now that that’s out of the way, I’d like to explain the proposal that U.A has for your son.” Inko and Izuku looked at him, waiting. “Principal Nezu would like to enroll Midoriya into U.A as a student in the hero course. He’d be in my homeroom, class 1-A. Should the both of you agree to his enrollment, there are a few guidelines that must be followed.”
“Guidelines?” Inko questioned.
“Yes. One, Midoriya is not to tell anyone of his involvement with All Might. Two, no one is to know that Midoriya is Rabbit, and three, the reason why you’re transferring here is not because of the principal’s proposal but because the school you went to before U.A couldn’t handle your quirk.”
“But...Izuku doesn’t have a quirk, sir.” Inko explained. Eraser turned to look at her, shaking his head.
“Midoriya, I know All Might gave you his quirk before he was arrested, correct?” He asked, directing his eyes to Izuku. The boy tensed, reliving the memories of that day.
“Before this ends, young Izuku, please, take this. I want you to inherit my power, son.”
“I-I don’t understand I-“
“Eat this, and be the symbol to the world that I couldn’t be, please.”
Izuku nodded his head. “He...he did.” He replied. Izuku barely knew anything about the quirk though. Yagi had told him that his quirk was called One for All and it was a stockpile quirk. He didn’t know much about the history of it, only small bits and details. Inko looked at him in shock.
“So, will you accept?” Eraser asked. Izuku was quiet. Did he even want to become a hero anymore? He had seen how broken the hero world was. Did he really want a place in that world after everything he had learned about it?
“Be the symbol to the world that I couldn’t be.”
Izuku decided that no, he didn’t want to be a hero, but he’d do it for Yagi. He’d become a hero to make his mentor (his father) proud. So he looked up at Eraserhead, eyes filled with determination. “Yes.” He said. His eyes drifted over to his mother, wanting to know her answer as well.
“To be honest I feel like I failed you, Izuku. When you were younger you probably thought that I was giving up on you, and I think a part of me deep down, ruled out the possibility of you becoming a hero…” She fell quiet for a moment, collecting her thoughts. “Even though I may have failed you once, even though my neglectfulness may have impacted your decision to take this path, I won’t fail you another time, Izuku. So please, go to U.A, and become the hero you told me you wanted to become.” Izuku could only smile.
Eraserhead stayed for a couple more minutes, explaining to Izuku how U.A was as a school and answered any questions Inko had for him. While he explained everything he could, there was something nagging at Izuku’s mind. Why was the principal going so far for Shouto and him? Why were they trying so hard to get them to go to the school? Eraser’s answer to the question was confusing and raised more questions.
“Call it a personal investment, if you will. If you want to think of it more simply, then it’s because U.A invests everything they can into its future heroes. No matter the origin.”
Izuku wasn’t sure what to make of it. He wasn’t sure how he should feel about the entire situation. His thoughts drifted towards Yagi. He had been arrested, right? Was he alright? Izuku could barely remember if his mentor was injured or not. If he was, had everything been taken care of? While he was thinking about Yagi, he remembered Shou and his injury. It had been a while seen he saw the other boy. Didn’t Eraser tell him where his room was?
Making his final decision, Izuku stood up from his bed. He winced slightly as he agitated his burn wounds but pushed onwards. He poked his head out the door and saw that there were no doctors or nurses nearby. Making sure to be stealthy, Izuku snuck out of the room and went to Shouto’s. At first, he ended up getting lost, unsure of where to go. He made one too many wrong turns and ended up on the opposite side of the building. Confused, Izuku continued to look around until he finally found Shouto’s room.
He wasn’t sure how he hadn’t gotten caught yet by anyone, but he wasn’t about to complain.
When he got to Shouto’s room he softly knocked on the door before he entered the room. Shouto was sitting on his bed, staring out the window. “Shou?” Izuku whispered, afraid that he’d ruin the peaceful atmosphere within the room. Shouto turned around, surprised. When Izuku saw him he let out a small gasp.
“‘Zuku…” Shouto mumbled. The left side of his face was bandaged, covering his eye. Some of the bandages were wrapped around his head and only his grey eye was visible. Shouto looked away from him as if he were ashamed. “The doctors said it would scar.”
Izuku frowned a bit. He hadn’t remembered exactly what led up to Shouto getting injured. Everything was a bit fuzzy after Izuku had been injured, but he remembered screaming Shouto’s name. “It’s proof that you survived.” He said. Shouto looked back at him, quiet. Izuku walked over to his bed and sat down next to him. “That scar changes nothing, Shou. You’re still you.”
“Thank you, Izuku,” Shouto replied. “It’s weird,” He began, making Izuku look over at him. “You...always know the right words to say.”
Izuku looked at him, his face turning a slight pink. “Um...S-Shou, t-there’s something I need to um...t-tell you…”
“What is it?” Shouto asked, tilting his head slightly. Izuku took a deep breath. This was it. He had been holding off on talking about the kiss for a while since he wanted to focus on Yagi and helping him. However, after the fight with Endeavor and witnessing Shouto get hurt like that Izuku didn’t want to wait. He didn’t want to risk anything stopping him from being honest with Shouto.
“Shouto I—” Shouto looked at him, waiting for him to finish speaking. Izuku could feel his heart pounding in his chest and his confession got stuck in his throat. He couldn’t say it.
“Izuku?” His friend asked, clearly concerned.
“I um…” Izuku tried, but it was all for naught. He just couldn’t get himself to say those three words. He wasn’t sure why though. If he remembered correctly, it was Shouto who initiated the kiss right? So why was he so nervous that Shouto would reject him? He let out a sigh of defeat and shook his head. Izuku gave him a small smile instead. “I’m just happy that you’re alright.”
Shouto looked at him with an emotion Izuku couldn’t recognize in his eyes. He didn’t reply and the two sat in silence. It wasn’t exactly awkward, but it wasn’t exactly comfortable either.
“So,” The sound of Shouto’s voice made Izuku jump in surprise. “Did you accept Eraserhead’s offer?”
Izuku slowly nodded his head. “Yeah...my mom wanted me to. After everything that’s happened, I kinda felt like I owed that much to both her and Yagi-san.” He explained. “And...maybe myself.”
“I think you’ll be a great hero, Izuku,” Shouto stated, making Izuku blush a bit.
“Ah...t-thanks, Shou. The same goes for you.” He replied. “T-That is if you even w-want to become a hero! After everything that happened with your family i-it’s completely understandable if you don’t want to be one!” Izuku rambled, afraid he accidentally angered or upset his friend.
“I do.” Shouto’s calm voice cut through Izuku’s panic. “I want to prove to myself that I can be different than him.” Izuku stared at him, surprised. Shouto had really changed, huh? With a smile, Izuku held out a fist.
“Let’s become heroes then, together.”
Shouto nodded and held out a fist as well.
“Together.”
Chapter Text
Denki groaned at the sound of his alarm clock ringing in his ears. He rolled over and reached to turn it off. After, he stared up at the ceiling, unmoving. He grabbed his phone and quickly scrolled through any messages he got, seeing messages from Kirishima and Ashido. However, a big dopey grin stretched across his face when he saw a message from Shinsou. He tapped on it, seeing it was a picture of the boy’s cat. Quickly typing a reply, Denki forced himself out of bed.
He quickly got himself ready and collected his homework, along with other things he needed for school. Once that was done, he took a small breath before exiting his room. Holding his bag, Denki went to the kitchen. In the kitchen sat a man and a woman. The man was sipping his coffee, eyes shifting through a piece of paper in his hand. The crease in his eyebrows told Denki he was annoyed. “You,” The man said, looking up at Denki. The boy gulped a bit.
“Yes sir?” He asked. The man frowned at him.
“Your grades are slipping. Again. How are we supposed to trust you to do anything right if you’re an idiot, kid?” The woman (who was previously cooking food) turned around to face Denki.
“Come on, Denny,”
‘That’s not my name…’
“It’s like you don’t even want to have a family.”
‘But I do!’ Denki wanted to scream. He really, really, wanted a family. “I-I do, ma’am. I’ve been trying really hard, I swear! Things have just been stressful and—and I’m worried they’ll find out and-” He was cut off by a hand slamming the table.
“Is that how you speak to the people who raised you?” The man asked, anger evident in his voice. Denki ducked his head down in shame.
“N-No sir…” He murmured.
“Then stop giving half assed excuses and fucking improve, Denny!” This time, Denki stayed silent. “Get going to school or you’ll be late.” Denki nodded obediently and got his shoes on.
“I don’t understand why we kept it..” The woman sighed. Denki wasn’t sure if they knew or cared if he was in range of hearing. “It’s worthless to us, hun.”
“I’m at the end of my rope, dear. I’d gladly dispose of it, but the League still needs it. They can’t afford to send in one of their own to spy for them right now.” Denki left the house, not wanting to hear anymore.
Denki Kaminari was no average hero in training. He couldn’t be when he had to villains as...guardians. He would call them his parents, but he wasn’t allowed to. He referred to them as ‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’ for as long as he could remember. Growing up with them was difficult to say the least. In their eyes, Denki was never good enough. If he did well in class, to them, he had to do better, he had to be perfect. Maybe even more than perfect, but Denki couldn’t do that. After all, no one was perfect. So, as punishment for never doing well enough, Denki was hit. Sir made sure never to hit him where the bruises could be seen. Ma’am would verbally strike him where it would hurt him the most: his self-worth.
They beat him down so that he never tried to leave them. It seemed to work, for it was fifteen years later, and Denki was still living with him. Denki had hoped that things would turn around for the better. It did, temporarily.
When deciding where to send Denki to high school, the two were approached by a member of the League of Villains. He would sell them money if they got information on U.A. high school. They agreed without hesitation and sat Denki down one day.
Denki had been a bit nervous about the meeting he was suddenly called to. Ma’am was the first to talk, and Denki swore that was the first time she ever looked at him with such warmth in her eyes. “Denny— I mean, Denki, we have an idea that you might like.” She said. “We want to put you into U.A. so that you can get information for us and in return, we can be that little happy family we’ve always wanted.” Without thinking, Denki agreed. How hard could it be?
It turned out to be very hard. He wasn’t expecting his classmates to welcome him so warmly. He was surprised by the positivity shown by his classmates. They teased him, but they were never hurtful. U.A. was such a different place than what Denki was used to. He realized he never wanted to give it up.
He approached the school and stopped short, inhaling softly. He put a smile on his face and his day began. Just as he was about to walk up to U.A’s front doors, heard a voice shouting his name. “KAMINARIIIIII!” The voice exclaimed. He turned around and saw Ashido and Kirishima running up to him. Denki’s smile morphed into a grin as his friends approached him.
“Hey guys!” He exclaimed.
Kirishima threw an arm over his shoulders. “Morning bro!” He replied.
“Kaminariiiii did you get the English homework?” Ashido asked him. “I didn’t understand a thing from Present Mic’s lesson on Friday, and you’re really good at English!”
Denki nodded. “Yeah, I got it.” He answered. Ashido’s eyes lit up.
“Can I have the answers?!”
Denki grinned and continued the conversation as they walked into the building. When they entered the classroom, Denki immediately looked for a familiar purple head of hair. When he found who he was looking for, he felt his heart flutter. Cursing himself a bit, Denki walked over to him. “Shinsou! My man, good morning!” He greeted.
Shinsou looked over at him, as usual, tiredly. “Morning.” He drawled. Denki slid into the seat in front of him, noticing the distracted look on his face. He had been like that ever since that huge fight with All Might and Endeavor. Denki could kinda understand why. Ever since the fight, there had been a lot of allegations made against the number one hero. People were even questioning All Might too.
“You okay, man?” Denki asked, worriedly. Shinsou looked over at him, slowly nodding. Denki pouted a bit, unbelieving. “I know this is gonna sound cheesy, but you can talk to me, whatever it is. We’re friends right?” God , wasn’t that hypocritical? Denki telling Shinsou he could come to him, no matter what. Asking Shinsou to be honest with him , while Denki was the fakest person in the whole school?
“Thanks.” Shinsou replied, giving him a tiny smile. Denki returned his smile and headed back to his seat as Aizawa entered.
“Listen up. I have an announcement to make.”
It wasn’t until a few weeks later when both Shouto and Izuku were released from the hospital. Most of Izuku’s injuries were healed, leaving behind phantom aches. Shouto however, still had bandages on his face, but less than when he first got hurt. After the two of them were released, more problems began to rise. Shouto couldn’t go back home to his father (and part of him was scared to face his mother). Izuku wasn’t sure what to do about the situation, and Aizawa was planning on talking to Principal Nezu about it. However, Inko offered to take Shouto in after Izuku went to her with his concerns.
After getting that worked out, the two started their first day at U.A. They met with Aizawa and Principal Nezu ten minutes before class started. To be frank, Izuku was shaking like a leaf with nerves. Shouto, somehow, looked completely stoic, and thankfully , Aizawa brought in Shinsou, so the two transfers would have a familiar and comforting face.
Unfortunately, Shinsou couldn’t stay forever. The first bell rang and Aizawa shooed him to class. Once he was gone, the teacher looked at Izuku and Shouto.
“Remember,” He said, “You’re both transferring from a different school that didn’t work out well. Todoroki—“
“Shouto,” The boy cuts in.
Aizawa pursed his lips but continued, “ Shouto, you don’t have to share your family background if you don’t want to. However, the class may pick up on your quirk. Endeavor constantly boasted about it whenever he got the chance.” The underground pro grumbled. He then turned to Izuku. “Midoriya,”
“Y-Yes!” The boy practically shouted, showing how clearly nervous he was.
He felt a gentle pat on the head, “Relax, they’re not going to eat you alive.” With that, Aizawa led them to the outside of the classroom. He had them wait outside whilst he made the announcement.
Izuku listened through the door as Aizawa spoke to the class.
“Listen up. I have an announcement to make.”
The once noisy classroom immediately silenced.
“I’m sure you’ve all heard the rumors from other classes, and yes, they’re true. There are two new transfer students joining us today.”
The once silent classroom erupted with noise.
“What’s their names?!”
“Do they have cool quirks?!”
“Why’d they transfer?”
“Are they nice?!”
“Are they cute?!”
Izuku heard silence suddenly and wondered what happened.
“You all can ask them yourselves. But don’t overwhelm them.”
There was a chorus of ‘yessirs’ and then Aizawa called them in. Izuku shot Shouto a nervous look. Shouto grabbed his hand, gave it a gentle squeeze as a sign of support, and entered the room first. Izuku took a breath and steeled himself. He can do it! He tried to encourage himself as he entered behind Shouto.
Everything will be—
“SHITTY DEKU?! THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”
….not okay.
Izuku glanced around at the class in front of him, seeing Bakugou up on his desk. “Bakugou! As your class rep, I implore you to be seated! You’re setting a bad example for the new students!” Iida exclaimed. Izuku sweat dropped. He and Shouto hadn’t spoken to Iida since the Stain incident. He briefly wondered if Iida would recognize them. Probably, after he heard them speak and saw their quirks.
“Bakugou, sit down.” Aizawa grumbled. “And please refrain from anymore outbursts.” He then nodded to Izuku and Shouto.
With ease, Shouto picked up on what Aizawa was telling them to do. “Shouto.” He said, and that’s all he said. Izuku could tell the class was in a state of awe and confusion.
He jumped silently when he realized everyone was staring at him with anticipation. “U-Um, hi!” He greeted awkwardly. “I-I’m Izuku Midoriya!”
The class erupted once more, cooing and aweing over Izuku and Shouto. Izuku caught sight of Shinsou giving them a tiny grin.
“Right, Midoriya, Shouto, your seats are in the back. Midoriya you’re in front of Shinsou, and Shout you’re in front of Hagakure, the invisible one.” Aizawa said. The two boys nodded and headed to their seats.
Izuku’s eyes widened when he saw Bakugou in front of him. The boy scowled, but didn’t say anything. Izuku paid no mind to the somewhat odd behavior and sat down in his seat. He felt Shinsou tap him on the shoulder. He turned around and was met with the same grin as before.
“Welcome to class 1-A.”
