Chapter 1: Crossfire
Chapter Text
Izuku didn't have a horrible childhood, despite what many people say. He loved his mom, who cared for him when he got injured and encouraged. him to follow his dreams. His dad was excited for his quirk to arrive, and told crazy stories about his experiences with his fire-breathing quirk. Kacchan was three when he got his quirk, which his mom said was early to gain a quirk. Izuku thought Kacchan's quirk was something amazing, because obviously it was. Izuku's constant praise of the explosive quirk did nothing to improve Katsuki's narcissistic outlook.
Kacchan began to change.
It started when they turned four, and Izuku showed no signs of getting a quirk. The two boys were eating outside, talking about the best hero ever, All Might! The explosive blond caught sight of the Kanji written on Izuku's lunch box. "Why does your lunch box say 'Deku'?" Katsuki questioned the greenette. "It doesn't say 'Deku', silly, it says Izuku." The boy in question replied good-naturedly. Kacchan took this as an insult to his intellect.
"I can read you nerd, and it clearly says Deku." The blond stated with a snarl, offended Izuku could even think that he was wrong. Before Izuku could respond, his mom approached the squabbling duo. "Izukkun, dear, are you ready to go to the quirk doctor?" Inko asked with her typical soft and gentle tone. "Yes mom! I hope I get a quirk like yours!" The young boy replied happily. The argument Katsuki and Izuku were having was left forgotten by the childish excitement of figuring out the greenette's quirk brought.
The two greenettes made their way to the quirk doctor, nervous energy palpable radiating from both of them; soon enough mother and son made way to the room. The room itself was cold and impersonal. The doctor was short and didn't move from his chair as the two anxiously made their presence known. "I am Dr. Tsubasa, you two are the Midoriyas, I presume?" The doctor stated in a tone that suggested he knew, why people did that, Izuku didn't know... but it reminded him of his father reprimanding him. Inko was about to confirm his statement, to be polite of course, but he had already moved on.
"Young Midoriya would you please go to the table to get x-rayed? Good." Dr. Tsubasa left no chance for the boy to say no, not that Izuku would anyway. Some odd instinct told Izuku to stay on guard, and he cast a look at the two adults in the room. His mom was uneasy, seeming to dread the result of the test, while Dr. Tsubasa seemed strangely excited. Izuku straightened his posture and waited for the doctor to power up the machine and see what quirk he had.
According to the devastated expression on his mom's pale complexion and the thoughtful look of the doctor, it wasn't good. "Mrs. Midoriya I am sorry to tell you your son is quirkless. Izuku frowned, but wasn't too upset with the revelation; something in his gut told him he had a quirk- but telling the creepy man was a bad idea. A gleam entered the Doctor's eye, and the man pounced on the family's silence like a cat catching prey. "There is a little program in the works to help your son develop a quirk, if you're int-" "Absolutely not. Sorry Dr. Tsubasa but we are expected at home now." The short-statured woman said with narrowed eyes and a tense posture.
"Come on Izuku, lets go home." His mom did a 180 and was back to her gentle, cheery self. Izuku was happy to oblige.
His mom's cheery demeanor lasted until they got home, she was back to the same dreading expression she had when the doctor said he was quirkless. They entered the apartment and found Hisashi waiting in the living room. "Ah Inko, Izuku, what'd the doctor say?" the fire-breathing man asked with a similar glow to the doctor's shining in his eyes. "He's quirkless, Hisashi." Inko didn't dance around the truth, it was like a very painful to remove bandaid.
Apparently Hisashi didn't want the bandaid removed, if the hardening of his amber eyes were anything to go by.
The next four years were misery for Inko and Izuku. Because quirks were said having a chance to develop in high-stress situations, Izuku's father took it upon himself to try and trigger the boy's quirk to activate. He started with simply hitting, but when it yielded no results he began using his quirk to abuse both wife and son.
The two greenettes both were determined though, and learned to move silently and become faster; Hisashi wasn't happy with their increased skills and began to target Izuku more, forgetting Inko. Hisashi underestimated the love of a mother, and Inko was like a ferocious mama cat protecting her kitten. The man was quickly enraged by his wive's interference... and finally snapped.
Hisashi was ready to kill the boy and be done with it, but when he charged up his fire... his attack didn't reach the cowering child.
Inko had jumped into the line of fire. Her once soft features grotesque and melting from the intense heat of the man's fire. Izuku's- no, he doesn't deserve the title- the villain watched in cold apathy as the woman's body melted and fell to the side. He could make it to the boy with no idiotic excuse for a wife to jump in the way like some martyr. When Hisashi turned back to kill the insolent child, the brat was nowhere to be seen. Hisashi Midoriya, also known as The Dragon, set fire to the apartment complex as he roared with unadulterated anger.
Meanwhile a black cat nearby sat on the roof of a neighboring building, smiling shakily as the night arrived and The Dragon was taken away. He turned and left the crime scene.
He was walking when the shock wore off... his sweet, loving mother was dead. He'd never get her Katsudon or snuggles when he's sad ever again. He'd never hear her cheerful voice as they planned their lives after Hisashi was apprehended. Tears unbidden fell at a rapid-fire pace, when Izuku then recognized another fact he had blatantly ignored.
He had a quirk. He also had no idea how to change back. (Nor did he know if he wanted to, most people never treated him nicely.)
Why couldn't his quirk have shown up before the man killed his mom... he wailed in anguish as he wished for his mom to still be alive. Nearby, a trio of cats heard a yowling kitten. Their maternal instincts kicked in and they snuck out of their humans' house. Surely the loud one, the tired one, and their kitten wouldn't mind another addition to the family. Mimi lead the way, she was a long-furred silver tabby with folded ears and blue eyes. Akai, Mimi's mate, was close behind, she was a sleek Russet tortoiseshell cat with amber eyes. Tai was the biggest of the trio, she was a Siberian with gray lynx-point markings and aqua eyes.
They approached the kitten, the yowls previously indistinguishable making sense to their ears and breaking their hearts. "Mama! Mama please... I can't live without you!" The kitten's voice broke in the middle of their cry. Mimi approached the dark-furred kitten. "Kitten, are you okay?" The Scottish Fold knew the answer, but she did want the little kitto's perspective... maybe some background.
Izuku was jolted out of his mourning by a beautiful silver cat, with a big siamese looking cat and a tortoiseshell cat close behind her. Unbeknownst to him, his hackles raised defensively as he took a step back in fear. "I-I'm sorry... Is this your territory... I will leave." Izuku mewed softly, crouching down and making himself as tiny as his already small kitten body could. He noted that home translated to territory... what else was different in the feline language... would he act like a normal cat?
Mimi watched with an aching heart as the kitten flinched back and made themselves a small target. 'Abused... traumatized... poor thing.' She sat and blinked slowly, the kitten slightly relaxed his tense muscles and began... chirruping? The feline’s curiosity prompted her to listen to what he was mewing about.
“How will I survive? I can’t hunt! What if I offend someone?! Will I be found by the mean one? What if-” The little cat cut himself off with a squeak fitting of a mouse. Tai had picked the black feline up by the scruff. “Let’s take the kit and go, Mimi.” The Siberian grunted around a mass of fluffy fur.
“We’re catnappers! Almost like the tired human was for us!” Akai’s energetic, bubbly voice, not at all concerned, sounded out loudly; this resulted in a deadpan look from Tai and a fond, exasperated sigh from Mimi. The kitten was sobbing quietly, wiping at his eyes in a human-like manner.
They traveled solemnly to the soft, reassuring chatter radiating from the tortoiseshell.
Chapter 2: Caught In The Middle
Summary:
He has a r r i v e d .
Notes:
yeah my post schedule sucks, but I'm trying. you guys have shown a lot of interest and I am gonna try to balance out school and writing!! (maybe planning chapter outlines would help instead of brain-barf.) Oh and do you guys have any characters you want to see more of? Kouda, Tokoyami, Tsuyu, Shouto, Hitoshi, and Eri are gonna be important, along with Ochako and Tenya. Eraserhead and Mic are too obviously.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
The small black feline must've dozed off at some point, because it was sunrise when his viridian eyes opened once more. Taking in his surroundings, he saw he was now at a front door of an apartment; one that seemed completely uninhabited if not for the scent of human radiating from the area.
Honestly, the boy turned kitten was scared; humans never treated him well with the exception of his mama, and he'd gotten her killed. He was the useless deku who got everyone he cared about hurt, and these cats who were trying to kindly take him in would be next.
He trashed pitifully in Tai's jaws in desperation to get away. His sudden liveliness, however weak, seemed to surprise the Siberian if the loosened grip and widened eyes were anything to go by. With one final twist he dropped out of the gentle hold of the lynx-point cat and landed gracefully on his feet. (as graceful as a kitten could be, at least.)
.
Mimi watched as the kitten wormed his way out of Tai's grasp, and seemed to be prepared to dash off. Fortunately the door had opened and distracted the kitten long enough for Tai to grab him again. If the kitten's distressed mews were anything to consider, the Scottish Fold could guess he was just as terrified, if not more, of their tired human as he was of them.
.
Izuku writhed in the firm yet gentle grasp, "No! Let me go!" his voice... meows... broke in the middle of his protests. "I'll get you all killed too, like..like mama..." the kitten whimpered, his struggles growing weaker as exhaustion and smoke inhalation caught up with his new body. "Please... just.. leave me." the young boy whispered as unconsciousness overtook him.
.
Hitoshi wasn't expecting a soot covered kitten and his dad's cats when he opened the door to go to school. the purple boy blinked, unsure if he was hallucinating from lack of sleep or unholy amounts of coffee.
He rubbed his eyes, apparently he wasn't dreaming and there was a very real and very cute kitten at the door. Tai of all cats was holding the fluff ball, and Hitoshi decided he'd skip school today. The violet haired boy took the kitten from the Siberian's jaws.
The kitten was soft and light, he smelt of ash and something he couldn't identify. He opened the door wider to silently gesture his dad's cats inside the house.
Dad wouldn't mind him skipping school in the name of cat... right?
Yeah... keep dreaming Hitoshi.
Akai felt sympathy for the recently orphaned kitten. He seemed to be the selfless type who cared too much for others and too little about himself. She had a feeling he'd break his bones to save a fish from drowning. Not even 24 hours into meeting the kit and she knew he'd be a problem child- little did she know, everyone who met the boy, even in his alternative form, was thinking along the same lines.
They had no idea how right they were.
Notes:
I think I'll speed it up, keeping Kumo's misadventures of kitty fluff and angst in it's own work while the juicy plot stays here. Multiple times I lost my writing and so that comment where I said I'd post soon was BS. Maybe I'll make a chatfic of the AU too, for when I feel too unmotivated to write eloquently.
thanks for so much support, sorry the chapter is short but I thought I'd time-skip in a new chapter while leaving more details of his arrival in the kitty corner while the basics chill here.
Chapter 3: PLEASE READ!
Summary:
PLEASE READ
(TRIGGER WARNING)?
Chapter Text
hey guys, feverest here.
haha.. life's been crazy. I'll probably be inactive for a while (at least not posting chapters) for a few simple reasons:
- coronavirus
- school
- murder
- death
GOING INTO DETAIL HERE, DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE TRIGGERED BY ANY BULLET POINTS!! stay safe y'all.
Coronavirus
Coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread to my area, which while it probably won't kill me, I will likely become infected. My town's been quarantined and school has been cancelled. I am not panicked about it, but worried for the people with compromised immune systems and older folk.
School
Unlike the other reasons, this is simply me being studious and productive academically. School drama is a bit crazy too though. Some drama involving my school, a gun and death kinda freaked me out.
Murder
Well, when someone gets murdered in your neighborhood where it's near your house and you can hear the gunshot- and you knew the murderer had been over to your house and friends with said person... not exactly comforting. 2020 is going absolutely stellar y'all :')
Death
Someone committed suicide at my school too. They had issues at home and their only nice family member had died the night before... suicide isn't the way to handle any hardship, but you can see why they did it. They hid it well and lit up any room they were in.
Suicide Prevention Hotline 1-800-273-8255
Oh, here's art I never finished of the trio!! Be careful out there guys, gals, non-binary pals.

Chapter Text
It had been a few years since Izuku integrated himself into the Aizawa-Yamada family. Affectionately named Kumo for his fluffy fur, he pondered if he could give himself a fake name based off of that. The cat boy still held onto the dream of being a hero, even if he technically didn't exist to the law. He had been presumed dead after the case gone cold, after all, what quirkless kid could even live on their own?
Well, Izuku wasn't quirkless, but he wasn't exactly taking care of himself; he would go out nightly and follow Eraserhead, assisting in the takedowns of villains- who knew cat allergies could take down big baddies?
Technically, the green kitten was a vigilante, using his Fortune ability to stop villains behind the scenes. He even made some appearances as his humanoid form, calling himself Marimo(*). Well, it was better than Feral Kitten or Street Cat... honestly the public was horrible at names.
He originally wanted to go with Yamikumo, but he figured he'd save it for his hero name- because he would be a hero.
Izuku felt a sense of guilt and pride, he managed to hide his identity for roughly 6 years, and guilt because he was free-loading off of his favorite pro-hero. (Because despite his old hero worship... the underground father figure he resided with was so nice and didn't want the glory or attention unlike some flaming trash-bags.)
Don't get him wrong, All Might was powerful... but simply put from what he gathered, the man was dumb. He didn't consider underground heroes... heroes, or that you don't need to have muscles the size of Endeavor's ego to be a hero..
Hitoshi and him along with Aizawa agreed on this, he'd heard enough 3 a.m. rants to understand this.
Present Mic wasn't one too concerned with fame either- he enjoyed it sure, but he put his job first. Considering All Might's role in the world, he could not help but wonder if the man was doing more harm than good.
Izuku wasn't blind... one man having everyone's faith in his care was a horrible burden. Not to mention what would happen if the man got killed society would be sitting ducks. He's had a lot of time to think to himself, and he's come to many conclusions.
1. All Might's quirk was transformative... (Honestly, you'd have to be dense to be so good at analysis and not wonder how All Might was never recognized out of costume.... it was like the Clark Kent and Superman cliché in the comics where pretty much no one caught on.)
2. People actually believed the man was an invincible hunk. Even though he was obviously favoring his left side and Izuku caught sight of blood trailing from his mouth after some fights.
3. The man was obtuse to the point he couldn't see burning trash when it insulted him.
Of course, Izuku couldn't blame others for being deliberately blind to harsh truths. Either they were raised to ignore or grew to not care. The only people he knew that weren't completely stupid are the ones he lives with, because ever since he showed more intelligence than the others he was scrutinized. It started with the door incident.
Kumo had been in the family for 4 years, Hitoshi knew that because of the day the kitten came was memorable. Kumo had always been odd, his fur had a green sheen, his breed was uncharacteristic, and he thought like a human.
This cat was the oddest one Hitoshi had ever encountered, and he has encountered lots of felines. He only really started to notice it one June day.
.....
Kumo was upset because he couldn't get into insomniac junior's room, if his meows were anything to go by. Hitoshi was cleaning his room and didn't need Kumo to lay on the bedsheets or attack the feather duster again. So when the determined cat stopped screeching, the purple-haired teen knew something was up.
He didn't expect Kumo to crawl under the door to come in his room, because do cats even bend like that?! (A/N: Yes. Yes they do.)
Hitoshi can also remember the day he saw the kitten and his cats at the door...
Who wouldn't skip school for them?
Notes:
*Marimo is a moss ball :)
Hey so I am posting this because I cannot find any motivation to do anything. I've been doing the bare minimum and basically have more of a life on ACNH than I do in reality. I wrote this back in November but never posted it because I wanted to make it longer. I've never been a motivated person, at least when it comes to caring for myself. No one came here to see me whine about oh how horrible my life is, because it's not, and many others have it worse than I do. I'm just venting on here because I don't express myself in real life and bottling up emotions isn't good.
Online school has started and I've already started procrastinating.
I am a bit lonely.
I'm fine though, just forgot my medication. Hope y'all have a wonderful day/night.
Chapter 5: yo
