Resident Evil Drabbles

Summary:

A collection of Resident Evil drabbles written for Drabble Challenges, mostly on the r/fanfiction Discord but possibly some others too.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Chapter 1: Legacy

Chapter Text

Jake asked Chris once if he was like his father.

"Course not. He tried to kill billions of people. You're nothing like him."

"Don't lie to me. You said you could see him in me, when we first met."

"You want me to be honest?"

"Yes."

"All right, but you've gotta let me finish before you get angry." Chris hesitated. "Jake...you're your father's son. You fight like him, you're pretty damn clever-- and you're a real smartass sometimes. But you're not him. I trust you."

"You trusted him at STARS. Was he like me then?"

That was harder to answer.

Chapter 2: Brotherhood/Sisterhood

Summary:

Alex thinks about her brother. Before Revelations 2 but after RE5. Probably quite soon after she finds out about his death.

Chapter Text

Alex had never entirely understood Albert.

Oh, she understood his ambition, his ruthlessness; of course she did. They were traits she shared. But her own ambitions had always been more practical. Money, power, respect. Albert had wanted a new world; Alex was satisfied with having power over this one.

But now Albert was dead. Strange... she'd always thought he'd outlive her. He'd probably thought the same.

As it was, she had to finish what he'd started, even though she wasn't sure what she'd do when she succeeded. After all, it was his goal, not hers, that she would have accomplished.

Chapter 3: Game Night

Summary:

Written for r/fanfiction Discord drabble "night". The prompt was "Game Night." Just random Wesker and Will stuff really. I headcanon it as past Willsker but there's nothing in this to say it's not platonic.

Chapter Text

"Al, you can't pretend you're not a nerd now," Will laughed. "You've clearly played this game a lot."
At least making fun of Al made the constant defeats a bit less frustrating.
Will frowned at the screen. "To be fair, I have mostly been playing against Sherry recently, I am kind of out of practice."
"You never beat her either."
"She's good for an 11-year-old," Will said defensively. "Anyway, I'll beat you this time. Let me guess, you'll pick Sagat again?"
"It worked the last 5 times," Al replied. "Besides, I like the Tiger Uppercut. It has a good name."

Chapter 4: Ancestry

Summary:

Ms Muller thinks about her son, and about his father.
Ancestry was a drabble night prompt from September or something that I never got round to.

Chapter Text

Jake had her red hair, and his eyes, that changed from blue to green to grey. As for personality... well, he was impulsive, and active, but then he was a toddler, so that wasn't surprising. He was happy, which was what mattered, obviously. She wondered whether he would end up taking after either of them, or both, and whether she even wanted him to.

Because Albert was many things-- a genius, charismatic, handsome, confusing at times and often strange and always like no-one else she'd ever met-- but she knew he wasn't a good person.

Then again, neither was she.

Chapter 5: Candy

Summary:

Candy was another old drabble night prompt, this one from October, that I never wrote anything for because it seemed to...well, sweet...for any of my characters, but then I randomly had this idea. It's a bit silly, but still.

Chapter Text

"Will. You haven't eaten all day."

Will glanced up from his work to see Al standing in the doorway of the lab.

"I'm busy," Will replied.

"You still need to eat. I don't want to have to dispose of your corpse if you starve to death locked up in the lab."

"Fine." Will was about to get some candy from a nearby vending machine, when Al placed a hand on his arm, holding him back. Damn, Al was strong.

"What?"

"I said eat, not inhale sugar." Al glared at him. "Get out of the lab and get some proper food."

Chapter 6: Wedding

Summary:

This is for a drabble night prompt from February: Wedding. Back in February I was going to do a thing with Wesker being annoyed about Will marrying Annette but it was too complex for a drabble. So I left it for ages until I decided to write a Willsker drabble for Springtime on Tumblr today, and looked back through my prompts file and saw it and came up with this...18 or 19?-year-old Wesker being unable to shut up about Will (seriously, even in something as official as Wesker's Report he keeps calling him a genius...) and Alex being cruel.

Chapter Text

Wesker sighed. "The researchers at Arklay seem to be universally incompetent-- aside from Will, of course."
"Of course. The great William Birkin. How could I forget?"
Wesker glared at Alex. She smiled calmly back. "I was merely commenting on the fact that I've heard about him rather a lot recently."
"He's a genius."
"So you've told me. I'm starting to wonder when the wedding might be announced."
"He's useful." It sounded more defensive than Wesker had intended. "A complete idiot with regard to anything other than science, but useful."
"Well." Alex looked at him sceptically. "Just don't get too attached."

Chapter 7: Motive

Summary:

Spencer's motives are still a mystery to Wesker.
(r/fanfiction Discord Drabble Night, prompt was "motive")

Chapter Text

Even after more than ten years of working for Umbrella, Wesker was no closer to figuring out Spencer's real motives. He couldn't simply want money: Umbrella could probably have made more money as a legitimate pharmaceutical company. No, he was planning something bigger.

That or he was completely incompetent-- but from what little Wesker knew of Spencer, that didn't seem likely. Plenty of people at Umbrella were incompetent, but Spencer wasn't one of them.

Wesker had joined the Intelligence Division to investigate, but even with access to more classified information than most employees knew existed, there was still something missing.

Chapter 8: Red-Handed

Summary:

Wesker is surrounded by BOWs, and having a good day.

Notes:

The prompt for this one is only really relevant at the end, but the first image that came to mind when I saw the prompt was Wesker with blood all over his hand after impaling someone, so...

Chapter Text

Wesker was in an Umbrella base deep underground, surrounded by BOWs and out of ammunition. The floor was covered in blood,  dead zombies—permanently dead—scattered on the ground, but more were approaching. Wesker kicked the nearest zombie, sending it flying down the hallway: it slammed into a wall, then fell to the ground.

A Licker leapt towards him. He lunged at it with a spear hand, impaling it, then wrenched his hand out of its chest. The corpse fell at his feet. Wesker stepped over it, then charged forward to attack again, blood dripping from his glove. He smiled.

Chapter 9: Spice

Summary:

This one is silly.
For the food-themed r/fanfiction Drabble Night.

Chapter Text

Wesker watched with narrowed eyes as Will poured hot sauce on his food. "Do I want to know why you're doing this? You won't even be able to taste the food."

"It's for science." An all too familiar mad light shone in Will's eyes.

The bowl was now so full of sauce that it was impossible to tell what else was in it. Even Will glanced down at it with some apprehension, before taking a bite.

Immediately, his face contorted in pain, tears streaming from his eyes. He swallowed, then coughed a few times. "Ow. Fuck ."

"I did warn you."

Chapter 10: Knife

Summary:

Human!Wesker is in a difficult situation.

Chapter Text

Wesker glared up at the BOW in front of him. The creature was inelegantly designed-- he could have done far better-- but it was hard to kill, and he'd already been nearly out of ammunition when it had attacked him.

Wesker put his empty Samurai Edge back in its holster, backing away as he did so to buy himself some time. The creature was slow. He had that advantage.

He drew his knife and leapt forwards, slashing at the BOW's face. The blade grazed across the BOW's thick skin, only drawing a small amount of blood. This might be difficult.

Chapter 11: Eternity

Summary:

Two alternate versions of the same prompt.

Notes:

The second one is from a Wesker Wins AU I may or may not write one day.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Albert had always acted like he thought he was immortal-- whether that was leaving a safe (by Umbrella's standards) job as a high-ranking researcher to join the Army, or his blatant disrespect for Umbrella higher-ups who could easily have had him assassinated.

Alex, on the other hand, had found out the hard way how mortal she was. Claiming she was developing a virus to make Spencer immortal, she researched every possible cure. She'd always thought Spencer's desperation to escape death pathetic, but was she any different?

Alex hoped she'd at least make better use of eternity than the old man.

After the destruction of humanity, Wesker turned his attention to the eternity ahead of him. Previously, his healing factor would have allowed him to live for four hundred, perhaps five hundred years, but now he was truly immortal. Alex, too, would now never die, cured at last of her illness. Together they would create a new world: the greatest civilisation in history, and also the last.

Only one flaw marred the perfection of Wesker's success. Someone who should have been there, immortal alongside him, and was not. Will.

Wesker shook his head. There was no point dwelling on the past.

Notes:

Also I'm really sorry that I've had no time to write recently. The Supermen is not abandoned and I plan to update it once I have more time...along with another WIP that I wasn't going to start until I'd finished The Supermen but that possessed me with inspiration.

Chapter 12: Dedication

Summary:

Another drabble night prompt! This time actually written during drabble night.

Chapter Text

Will kept working, even as his hands started to shake, even as his thoughts started to blur together. He couldn't remember the last time he'd slept.

Al had tried to get him to stop. Couldn't he see Will was getting close to a breakthrough? Was he trying to hold Will back?

He couldn't stop, couldn't let Alexia win. It would take dedication to beat her. Everyone was saying she was better than him, and maybe she was, maybe he didn't have her natural talent, but if he worked hard enough he could win.

He had to. Umbrella didn't like failures.

Chapter 13: Ink

Summary:

This one is...rather loosely inspired by the prompt.

Chapter Text

The tattoo on her shoulder read "shujaa".

Hero.

She'd tried to be a hero even as a child, determined to find her parents. They couldn't have been dead. Sheva would save them. She'd searched for them until she collapsed.

The guerrillas who took her in trained her, gave her a cause to fight for. They'd told her about Umbrella, about the government, and from then on she was ready to risk everything to defeat them.

When she found out one of their leaders had made a deal with Umbrella, she wondered if she'd ever really been a hero at all.

Chapter 14: Out In The Wild

Summary:

Wesker discovers that Will occasionally does go outside.

Notes:

Prompt was Out In The Wild. Yes, I ran out of creativity for titles and just used the prompt...

The canon fact that Wesker likes walking in the woods isn't talked about enough in this fandom. I love this forest cryptid.

Chapter Text

As chief researcher, Wesker didn't get much time away from work. Whenever possible, he spent what he could get outside, walking through the forest that surrounded Arklay. If you headed far enough up into the mountains, it became hard to believe the facility even existed: nothing but forest to be seen. Most importantly, it was a chance to get away from his frequently infuriating colleagues.

But on this occasion, he was rather surprised to encounter the one colleague he wasn't tired of talking to. It was unusual to even see him out of the lab.

"Will? This is certainly unexpected."

Chapter 15: Popcorn

Summary:

Wesker and Will watch a new film.

Notes:

I wrote this a while ago and forgot to post it...

Chapter Text

"Will, you can't possibly eat that much popcorn yourself."

"I haven't eaten all day."

"That doesn't make it better. They serve perfectly good food at the training centre. You've studied biology enough to know you can't live entirely off sugar."

"I didn't have time. I was working. Anyway, I haven't been to a cinema in years, let me have this."

Wesker sighed. There was no point in wasting more time arguing about popcorn. "Let's just hope this new film turns out to be decent."

The words appeared on the screen. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Chapter 16: Phoenix

Summary:

Death and rebirth. The alchemical transformation of Albert Wesker.

Chapter Text

The Tyrant really was beautiful. As it emerged from its tank, Wesker stepped forwards, arms outstretched in a come on then, stab me gesture.

With a burst of pain, claws pierced his body. There was a possibility that this wouldn't work, that he would die here, but there was also a chance he'd rise like a phoenix, transceding humanity to become something greater.

The Tyrant flung him aside. He hit the ground hard, felt ribs crack, though he was only distantly aware of it through the growing haze of blood loss. And yet, as the world went black, he smiled.
