A Family Reunion To Remember

Summary:

Saitama gets invited to a family reunion, Genos tags along and things happen.

Notes:

This is very self-indulgent and dialogue heavy so if you don't like it you know where the exit is. I haven't been able to find any stories like this so I made one, posting maybe irregular since I'm still writing this so enjoy the first chapter.
Italics in quotations are for written words like letters or texts.
Italics like 'this' are for thoughts.

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: The Invitation

Chapter Text

The day started relatively normally; wake up, eat breakfast, patrol and punch whatever monster decided to rear its ugly head, then go through the mail to see what coupons could be combined with current or upcoming sales; and of course, burn his hate mail. It was that final part though, the retrieval and sorting of the mail, where that Monday decided to make things the wrong kind of interesting.

“Sensei, I have located the mail drone!”

Saitama looked up at his disciple’s declaration and found said disciple triumphantly holding the box of mail. “Nice job Genos, where was it this time?”

“Inside the remains of that blue car outside the destroyed convenience store on the next block.”

“Huh”, Saitama got up from his reclining position against the folded futons to sit at the table and help Genos sort through the mail. It was pretty quick work since most of the mail was from Genos’s fans, and all the hate mail Saitama received never had a return address, so it was easy to tell.

“Sensei,” Genos informed him, “There is a letter for you, it has a return address.”

“Really?”, Saitama took the letter, “Oh, it’s from my sister.”

“I was not aware you had a sister Sensei.”

“Yeah well, let’s see what she wants.”

Hey little bro, If your reading this, then it’s that time of year again, the family reunion. Now normally you wouldn’t even know it’s happening; but this year, I’m hosting the party and I think you should come and make things a bit more interesting. If you decide to come, make sure you bring that Roomba housewife of yours. Love, Nezuko

“What does it say Sensei?”

“Nothing! It’s just an invitation to my family’s reunion.”

“Do you wish to attend Sensei?”

“Not really, me and my family don’t get along very well,” Saitama thought back to what his sister said in her letter, it would be fun to see how irritated his family could get just from his presence. “You know what, why not, it’ll be nice to see Nezuko again at least.”

“Then you should go Sensei, I will make sure everything remains in order while you’re away.”

“Not a chance Genos, you’re coming with me.” Before Genos could compose any objection within the 20 words or less limit Saitama added, “I mentioned to Nezuko how a top of the line teenage combat cyborg decided that I was an ideal teacher and how I couldn’t get rid of him; so, she’s wanted to meet you for a while now. Besides, I wouldn’t be able to get through the damn thing without you to keep everybody on their toes.”

“Very well Sensei, I would be honored to meet your family.” Saitama elected to ignore the phrasing of Genos’s last remark, he couldn’t afford to get his hopes up, Genos was just a friend; a smart, attentive, sinfully good-looking friend, but a friend none the less.

“Well I guess we better start packing, if I remember right Nezuko lives a good distance outside any of the cities, so we’ll need to leave early tomorrow; and, knowing my sister everyone is going to be convinced to spend the night so clean clothes are a must.”

“I will start packing immediately Sensei.”

“Wait, we should take care of the mail fir- “, “Incinerate!” Saitama could only blink in surprise as the once full box of mail was reduced to ashes, “Dude!” his mind went immediately to all the coupons that were probably just burned to a crisp.

“Do not worry Sensei, I made certain that any and all coupons and sale flyers were removed before I incinerated what remained.”

“Well, at least take the box outside before you decide to set it on fire, you could’ve burned the apartment down!”

“Yes Sensei! Forgive me!”

“Forget it, not like we can’t fix any scorch marks in the floor; let’s just start packing.”

“Yes Sensei!”

With that they began to gather what they would need for the events soon to come; as Saitama went searching for his lucky Oppai hoodie he felt a buzz in his pocket. It was the phone Genos had insisted on buying for him, the screen showed a text message from his big sister.

“Hey little bro, you gonna be here tomorrow?”

                                                           “Yeah”

“Good make sure to bring your boyfriend too ;)”

“Nezuko! U can’t just send stuff like that!!!”

“Why not?”

“Cause Genos is a nosey shit and I don’t need your texts weirding him out!”

“Fine but you should tell him”

At that point, Saitama decided to just not respond since Nezuko always had to have the last word, but her last message still bounced around in his brain, “You should tell him”, yeah that would go well ‘Hey Genos, guess what, your bald, unattractive, lazy teacher that everyone hates is hopelessly in love with you, a cyborg both younger than him and way out of his league.’ Yeah, no. Oh well, pack now, existential crisis about his love life and sexuality latter.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Genos being Genos; sort of

Notes:

Short chapter but, here ya go

Chapter Text

Genos was trying his hardest to keep his cool, Sensei wanted him to meet his family, him, Genos. Okay well, he didn’t specifically say that, but Saitama-sensei asked him to join him at his family reunion and Genos was freaking out like the love-struck teenager he was, of course you couldn’t tell by looking at him. According to Sensei and their friends he had a very good “poker face”, which he didn’t really get since he never played poker, but that wasn’t the point; the point was, Sensei wanted Genos to join him at his family reunion. That one word was what kept bouncing around his metallic skull like a Windows screensaver, family. Saitama-sensei considered him family, at least, enough so to invite him to a family function; of course, Genos being Genos, he immediately began thinking about possible hidden meanings to the gesture.

“Hey, Genos”, He was snapped out of his analysis before he ended up with yet another six shelves worth of notebooks about his sensei, “You okay? You’ve been quiet, it’s weird.”

“My apologies sensei.”

“Don’t worry about it man, besides, I get it.”

That statement made Genos really hope that one of Saitama-sensei’s many skills was not mind reading. “You do Sensei?”

“Well yeah, my family can be a bit uptight and judgmental, so I don’t blame you for being nervous about meeting them.”

‘Oh, thank god.’ “Yes Sensei, I suppose I am a bit worried about how they will react to me; especially considering the fact that I am, not quite human.”

“Genos, we talked about this, you’re more human than anyone I’ve ever met; and before you pull out a whole power point presentation proving otherwise, this is not a debate I feel like having right now.”

“Of course, Sensei.”

“Anyway, you think we should go ask the old geezer if he’d be willing to keep an eye on the area for us?”

“I shall contact Bang immediately to ask him!”

“Sure, you do that while I work on dinner, sound fair?”

Knowing how stubborn his sensei could be with sharing household duties, Genos chose not to argue; so, he went off to speak with the old dojo master. Besides, talking to Bang would give him the distraction from his inappropriate feelings that something as mindless as cooking couldn’t.

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Meet The Fam

Chapter Text

The next day arrived much sooner than Saitama would have liked. He was woken up by an unusually energetic Genos, which is saying something because the guy could power a whole city on his own. They ate a quick breakfast and were running to the outskirts of City-Z at 6:30 in the morning.

They arrived at a house on a large property a little after 12, as Genos kept walking forward, Saitama stopped.

“Sensei, is everything alright?”

Saitama shook his head, “Yeah, just mentally preparing myself.”

As they walked up the front porch, Saitama paused once again before taking a deep breath, and ringing the doorbell. Which was immediately answered by a woman who looked startlingly similar to Saitama, except for the fact that she had hair, and boobs.

“Sai!”, He was immediately snatched into a hug as his big sister peppered kisses all over his head.

“Nezuko stop it! You’re embarrassing me!”

“Aww come on little brother, I haven’t seen you in ages!”, it was at that point that she noticed the 600kg cyborg standing next to them. “And you must be Genos! Saitama’s told me so much about you! Go on inside and set down those bags, everyone else is out back.”

Genos looked over to Saitama as if asking for permission.

“Go ahead dude, I’ll catch up with you.”

“Yes Sensei!”

As Genos walked inside Nezuko turned to Saitama, “Sensei huh?”

“Shut up!”

“So, you ready to catch up with everyone?”

“Mentally? No. Physically? Also no.”

As they walked through the house Saitama noticed that Genos left their bags neatly place next to the umbrella stand just inside the door. He then heard a small commotion outside, which could only be caused by a gaggle of children. They walked out to the backyard to find Genos surrounded by five little kids grabbing at him and asking if he was a real robot. That is, until they noticed Saitama.

“Uncle Saitama!”, before he could blink, Saitama had five little ankle-bitters climbing on him, trying to get his attention, asking him to play with them, and other requests that children often give.

“Hey, come on, give me a little space!”, Saitama looked over to Nezuko, but she was too busy laughing at his predicament to help, so he turned to contestant number two.

“Genos?”

“Yes Sensei?”

“A little help?”

“Yes Sensei!”

Together they managed to pry the children from his arms, legs, and torso; by then they had the attention of everyone in the backyard. An older woman approached them, once again bearing a striking resemblance to Saitama. She didn’t look very pleased to see them.

“Hi, mom.”

“Saitama,” the woman replied rather coldly, “What are you doing here?”

“Nezuko invited me.”

“I see, and… who… is this?”, It was clear that the woman was going to say what, but she apparently had some type of courtesy towards strangers.

“This is Genos my…”, roommate? disciple? secret crush? “my friend.”

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Genos Goes Over The Twenty Word Limit

Chapter Text

Genos was currently battling his greatest enemy yet, even more dangerous and daunting than the Mad Cyborg, possibly an even greater threat than Lord Boros, Saitama-Sensei’s family.

“So, Saitama, how did you get here? I heard from Nezuko that you didn’t have a car.”

Genos was about to fight Saitama’s cousin, who’s attitude reminded him strongly of everyone’s favorite singer/model/hero Shit Face, and by everyone, Genos of course meant anyone who only saw his public persona.

“No need for a car when everything is just a quick walk from the apartment.”, the patience of a Saint, Genos was sure of it.

“Well, apparently a good barber is the one thing you can’t find.”

“Saitama-Sensei is very handsome, even without hair!”, Great, now he had everyone’s attention on him.

After the awkward silence stretched on for a few minutes, Sensei’s sister decided to chime in.

“So, Genos, how exactly did you meet my little brother? I bet that’s quite the story.”

At the word story five pairs of eyes were suddenly staring up at him from the grass as the children who previously tried to use him as a jungle gym, now sat with rapt attention in front of him.

“Well, I was tracking this mosquito monster, which was responsible for draining the bodily fluids from many farm animals and civilians, my search led me to City-Z, where Sensei lives, though I did not know it at the time. I was battling the mosquito girl, when she called her swarm to her, it was then that your uncle appeared, running after one of her mosquitoes with a can of bug spray.”, that comment garnered a laugh from the children and Nezuko-san, while Sensei grumbled about how mosquitoes are the worst bug to ever exist, “I then used my blasters to incinerate the swarm.”, insert pose for dramatic effect, “I then remembered that your uncle was still there and, worried that he had been injured, I turned to find him completely unharmed.”, Genos decided to leave the part about his clothes being burned away out of the story, “It was then that the mosquito girl once again attacked, this time much stronger due to the amount of blood her swarm had given her. She almost completely tore me apart, and as I was falling to the ground, I realized, the only way I could defeat her would be to self-destruct.”, gasps were heard from his young audience, and a few of the adults, “However, before I could self-destruct, your uncle killed the mosquito girl with a single slap, saving my life.”

Cheers sounded from his audience and the five pairs of eyes then turned to his sensei with wonder and awe.

“It was then that I decided that I had much to learn from him and asked to become his disciple.”

“And then next thing I know, he’s standing in my apartment with a giant backpack saying that the best way for him to learn from me, would be to live in my apartment.”

“So, the two of you live together?”, Damn that stupid cousin and his stupid smug face.

“Yeah so? What’s wrong with having a roommate?”

“Well, I think I figured out why you don’t have a girlfriend, aside from the obvious of course.”, Genos wouldn’t resort to violence against Sensei’s family, he was better than that.

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Family Feels

Chapter Text

The rest of the day passed by similarly, with Saitama’s extended family occasionally making snide remarks and Genos vehemently defending him.

“Well I think it’s about time to start on dinner, Mom, I want to talk to you before I start cooking.”

“Nezuko-san, I would be more than happy to volunteer myself to prepare dinner.”

“No, no, you’re a guest I couldn’t-“ “Just let him do the cooking Nez,” Saitama said from his position as child entertainer, “He’d just end up insisting on doing it anyway, I speak from experience.”

“Alright, in that case, Mom, I want to talk to you, privately.”

“What is this about Nezuko?”

“This is about the way you’ve been treating Sai and Genos, you’re acting like he cursed the family or something.”

“Your brother refused to see your father while he was on his deathbed, why are you not angry with him?”

“Because I know why he didn’t show up, and for once you’re going to sit and listen to your kids before you make a decision. You and Dad always pushed us to be our best, but what you thought was best for Sai ended up pushing him away, when I told him that Dad had died, he was devastated, and I thought he might never smile again.” Nezuko turned to point out Saitama laughing and playing with the children. “But look at him now, he’s happy, more than he’s been in a long time and it’s all because of Genos, so maybe you should try to give him a chance instead of looking at him and thinking he has no feelings.”

“Maybe you’re right, I just wanted Saitama to be successful, but maybe I should have been more worried about what he wanted.”

“Try to make amends while you can.”

“I will.”

“Saitama,” The man in question looked up from where he was playing with the kids, “Yeah Mom? What is it?”

“I wanted to apologize for how I’ve been treating you, Nezuko made me realize that I should focus on what makes you happy, instead of what makes me happy.”

“Really?”

“Yes, although, I was hoping for some grandkids from you, I’m glad you found someone who makes you happy.”

“Wait what?”

“That Genos boy, a mother always knows Saitama.” Before Saitama could deny his feelings, the cyborg in question announced that dinner was ready. His mother turned to him and said, “Your father waited so long to tell me how he felt that I almost married someone else, don’t make the same mistake he did.”

“I had found a set of recipes and this one seemed the most fitting for the occasion.”

As Genos said that, Saitama’s mother froze. “This, was one of my husband’s recipes.”

“Well would you look at that, seems the only thing Saitama managed to teach this bucket of bolts was how to be just as useless as him.”

But before Genos could go on another rant Nezuko interjected. “That’s it! I’ve had it with you! You come in here, act like you own the place, insult my little brother and his friend, who has been nothing but polite, and use an innocent choice of meal in order to belittle them further. Get out of my house, and never show your face around here again!”

Nezuko’s outburst left the remaining members of the family in shock, as it took quite a bit to get her to kick someone out.

“Mrs. Sensei please forgive me, I did not mean to overstep my boundaries!”

“No dear, it has just been a long time since any of us have made one of my husband’s recipes, we could never seem to get it quite right.”

“Well, if there’s one thing Genos is good at besides setting stuff on fire, it’s cooking, so let’s dig in.”

Chapter Text

The rest of the meal went swimmingly after smug Cousin Dickface was banished; except for the fact that Saitama was scared fucking shitless. He was feeling less than courageous because he made one of the stupidest decisions of his life so far, he was gonna confess to Genos. The only question was where and how, okay that's two questions but still, he was freaking out.

"Hey Sai, come here for a sec."

"What is it Nez?"

"There's a huge old tree on the edge of the property, nice and private."

Nezuko walked into the kitchen, leaving Saitama more than a little flustered, did everyone know about his crush on Genos?

"Hey Genos,"

"Yes Sensei?"

The cyborg in question poked his head out from the kitchen, doing a pretty good impression of a curious puppy, damn, that kid was  gonna be the end of Saitama if he didn't stop being so cute.

"Let Nezuko handle the dishes, she's kind of obsessed with making sure everything is in exactly the right place."

"Are you sure Sensei?"

"Yeah, now c'mon, I've had my fill of social interaction with my family for now, let's get some fresh air."

Saitama began to walk towards the edge of the property, with Genos in tow. He had the location, now he just needed to figure out what to say.

"Genos, I wasn't completely honest with you, I brought you out here so we could talk privately."

"Is there something wrong Sensei?"

Rather than answer, Saitama chose to climb up into the sturdy branches of the large tree. He had just settled into a fork between two branches when Genos started to climb after him. It took a bit of help from Saitama to get Genos situated in an adjacent fork.

"Sensei, if I did something wrong during this visit I sincerely apologize, I did not mean to offend any member of your family, and-"

"Genos, shut up and listen to me."

"Yes Sensei."

Ah shit, now Genos looked like a kicked puppy that was about to be yelled at. Fuck.

"No one's angry with you, you didn't do anything. I brought you out here to tell you something important."

At this point Saitama had no idea where he was going with this, he wasn't exactly good with words; so instead he decided to just show Genos what he was talking about. He leaned forward and grabbed Genos's chin, being careful not to crush his face. Slowly, gently, he pressed their lips together. He couldn't help but marvel at how soft Genos's lips were. After a few moments he pulled away and opened his eyes to see Genos blinking at him with a puzzled expression on his face, head tilted to the side and clouds of steam coming from his vents.

"Sensei?"

"I love you Genos, I have for a while now, it took me a bit of time and a push from my family to figure it out, but I love y-"

Next thing Saitama knew, he was on the ground on his back with his cyborg disciple on top of him, peppering his face with kisses.

"Sensei," *kiss* "you have no idea," *kiss* "how long I," *kiss* "dreamed of hearing," *kiss* "you say that."

"Okay, okay, relax, let's go back inside before Nez gets any ideas about what we're doing out here."

"What would your sister think- oh, oh."

There went another burst of steam.

Laughing, Saitama pushed Genos off and got to his feet.

"C'mon, let's go."

Chapter Text

Saitama was on his way home from grocery shopping when his phone rang, it was Nezuko.

"Hey sis, time for the family reunion already?"

"Yep, you and Genos are coming this year right?"

"Genos would be sulking for days if I said no."

The two continued to chat until Saitama reached the point in City Z where the cell reception began to get spotty. The rest of his walk home was uneventful, as usual. Saitama reached the apartment and opened the door, he barely had time to remove his shoes before there was a small chorus of "Sensei!", and he was swarmed.

"Welcome home Saitama.", Genos followed the tiny army to give his husband a hand with the food.

"Thanks Genos, oh by the way, Nezuko called to ask if we were coming to the reunion this year. I figured we would go since it's been a while."

"Well we should make sure there's enough room for all of us."

"Yeah you're right, you guys put the food away while I check with Nez okay?"

This suggestion was met with another chorus of "Yes Sensei!"

Saitama sent a text to Nezuko asking about how much room there was to spare, Nez of course said the more the merrier. When she asked why Saitama wanted to know, he just replied with a single picture. The picture was of Genos in the kitchen surrounded by eight mini versions of himself.

Far off in the countryside, Nezuko was dying of joy and cuteness.
