No Better Love

Summary:

Hoseok and Yoonji were destined to be mates.

Hoseok would present as an alpha and Yoonji as an omega and they'll be together, a promise more than 10 years in the making. They'll have the perfect house. The perfect kids. The perfect love. It was the perfect plan.

But she had presented as a beta. Luna just had to be cruel to her. Suddenly, the family she envisioned with Hoseok shattered in a blink of an eye.

(Or a love story two decades in the making)

*This is fem Yoongi(Yoonji) and she's the twin sister of Yoongi. Not threesome lol.

Notes:

So, I wrote this one shot because I'm procrastinating from the Taekook main story. Sorry lol. I just wanted to write something sweet and light to boost my energy. I hope you enjoy this :) Oh, if you hadn't read the taekook one you can still understand this.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Contrary to other’s belief, Yoonji is not like his twin brother, Yoongi. For one, Yoonji hates the color mint which is the current color of his brother’s hair. If you would ask her, she thinks Yoongi secretly wished he has natural mint colored hair. Why she hates it? She doesn’t know too. Yoongi likes to bicker, Yoonji prefers to stay calm. Yoongi appears hard headed but follows their parents, Yoonji is the vice versa. Yoongi loves music, she can’t even understand the differences of each note. She can go on listing things but the biggest difference in them, is that she believes in love while Yoongi spits at the idea of it. And when she found hers she knew she will never let it go.

Love to her, came in the form of a literal sunshine called Jung Hoseok. He was a tall, dimpled boy, with light brown, almond shaped, eyes that scrunches up when he smiles, and a pointed nose. But what caught Yoonji’s heart was the brightest smile she had ever seen when Hoseok had smiled at him. She thinks she might need glasses from going blind by Hoseok’s light. Being subjected to the sunshine directly is not going to make her health any better but Hoseok is a health hazard she’ll gladly welcome.

It was one afternoon at the community playground when she ran away from home (for reasons she can’t remember-probably something a stupid 5 year old kid would throw tantrum about) that she met him. Some older kids were picking a fight with her because they said she looked at them with sharp eyes but she was just honestly zoning out and her eyes are naturally sharp. Their leader pushed her and when she was about to retaliate, Hoseok had stepped in front of her and scared them.

“Are you hurt?” was his first sentence to her. He reached a hand out to Yoonji which she gladly accepted.

“No. Thank you for helping me.” she replied with a nod. (She doesn’t smile a lot, okay?)

“I’m Hoseok. You can call me Seok.” the boy smiled and Yoonji’s heart stopped.

“I’m Yoonji.” she said calmly but her heart beat erratically.

“Not much of a talker, I see.”

From then on, Hoseok became her friend. They realized they went to the same elementary school and promised to meet each other every day. Yoonji knew fell into a comfortable relationship with him. Hoseok was always there, Yoonji can’t even remember the time he wasn’t. It was natural for them to be in each other’s lives. Their classmates would tease them, even their teachers could sense that their bond was different.  And somehow, they knew too they just never said it out loud. They continued like that until their 2nd year of high school.

They were walking hand in hand back home (Yoongi had to do something again at school) one afternoon, and Hoseok just blurted it out.

“I love you, Ji. Ever since we met each other I know I love you. I’m in love with you.” She stopped walking and smiled her rare gummy smile.

“Ah, it took you forever. I’m in love with you, too. I love you.” she kissed Hoseok’s cheeks.

Ever since then, they were inseparable. Every day she wakes up happy and warm with Hoseok’s texts and calls. They decided to officially court once Hoseok becomes an alpha and she, an omega. It was obviously in Hoseok’s genetics to present as an alpha seeing that one of his mothers is a true alpha. They would talk for hours about their dream job, dream house, and how many children they wanted. Of course, they have petty arguments and sometimes one or both of them cry but they were happy.

It was their graduation ball (that everyone forced her to go to) where Hoseok gave her a promise ring. She cried happy tears that night, thankful for waterproof makeup. She was wearing a simple black short sleeves gown with a sweetheart neckline which cinches at the waist and flows at the bottom. It contrasts nicely with her milk like skin and suits her personality. A little reserved and old school yet sweet at the same time. Hoseok had worn a black pin-striped suit and handed her a white rose styled as a bracelet as a boutonniere matching the one on his suit pocket.

“My feet hurt. Mom forced me to wear heels.” she whined as they sat down their table. Their friends are probably out in the dancefloor still dancing.

“Ah, you’ll love me more for this.” Hoseok said as he pulled out Yoonji’s black converse from a bag under the table.

“Oh my God! You’re the best, Seokie!” she hugged him and kissed his cheeks.

“And don’t worry, I also brought socks.” Hoseok raised his brows up and down.

In that moment, Yoonji knows. No one will ever come close to Hoseok in her heart.  He understands her well, cares for her, and loves her. She was thankful to the universe to have given him one Jung Hoseok. She was so gone for the man and she promised nothing will ever come in between them.

However, the day Yoonji turned 18, she did not present. Yoongi had presented as an alpha on their birthday but nothing happened to her. It was heard of but unusual to present late but it did not faze her. Everyone was supportive of her and understanding. Nothing changed in her relationship with Hoseok but little did she know that a growing doubt in her heart has flourished. Hoseok had presented as an alpha as expected. Now if only, she’ll present as an omega too. Months pass by, even Jimin and Taehyung had presented but she still hasn’t.

It was a month after Taehyung had presented that the day finally arrived. She felt dizzy and weaker than usual but did not really feel the intense pain in her stomach that she was supposed to. Weird. Both Taehyung and Jimin told her that the pain would be unbearable and made them cry for hours. The smell of others didn’t really affect her either. Only after almost a day that it hit her, she was a beta. Not an omega. A beta. Not that there’ something wrong with being a beta. It’s just that it means one thing. She can’t be with Hoseok anymore.

No. No. No. No. No.This can’t be it. Panic thoughts swirl inside her head.

Yoongi was the first person she told about her problem. She cried in her brother’s arm that night, calming and reassuring words coming from him. He advised her to not think ahead and talk to Hoseok instead, and that his best friend wouldn’t think that way and he knows Hoseok loves her more than anything. If she was being rational, she knows Yoongi was right but she let fear and emotion take over. Eventually, Hoseok and their friends find out but Yoonji was starting to distance herself. It got worse when her father had a stroke. She became more distant and aloof. Only replying to Hoseok’s messages with one word.

Are you okay? Hoseok would ask.

Yeah. Is the only thing she can say even when she’s not.

Hoseok came to a breaking point after 3 weeks of Yoonji’s silent and cold treatment. He found her by the mountain hill where she always go to when she’s lonely. She was sitting on the grass and looking at the horizon when she felt a figure sat beside her.

“Talk to me, please, Ji.” Hoseok had pleaded with tears threatening to fall.

“What are you talking about? I always talk to you?” she replied not looking at him.

“You know what I’m talking about. This past few weeks has been hell. You never eat with me. Never go out with me. Replies with only an ok or yeah to my texts. I barely see you. Is this about uncle? Or you just got tired of me?” Hoseok’s tears fall, appearing like crystals decorating Hoseok’s beautiful face. Hoseok, to Yoonji, can never appear ugly even when crying and it breaks her heart to see him like this.

“No. no. no.” she quickly wiped the tears on the boy’s eyes.

“Then what is it about?” Hoseok held her hand in his.

“It’s just-“ she sighed, own tears falling out before speaking.

“I-I’m a beta, Hoseok. I-I can’t be with yo-u.” she finally manage to verbalize her thoughts.

“That’s bullshit, Yoonji. If we want to be with each other, we can be with each other.” Hoseok held her hand tighter and she let her face fall on his shoulder.

“But I can’t give you your dream. I can’t give you kids. Don’t you understand that? There’s a lot of omega out there wanting you. I don’t want you to feel obligated to be with me. You can have so much more without me.” she had said while controlling her sobs. She can feel Hoseok’s body trembling slightly.

“Don’t you get it Yoonji? That dream doesn’t mean anything if it’s not with you. I love you only you. I can’t even imagine life without you.” Hoseok had said with so much emotions.

She sobbed harder.

“I’m sorry I didn’t realize you were thinking like that. You’re enough for me Yoonji. You’re even so much more so please don’t doubt that I won’t choose you. I’ll choose you every day ‘till my last breathe.” Hoseok continued to say while both of them are crying.

“I’m sorry, Seokie. I was so afraid. I let my insecurities and doubts get me.” she hid her face in the crook of Hoseok’s neck.

“It’s okay babe. Just don’t do that again, okay? Tell me if something bothers you. I will never leave you.” Hoseok rubbed soothing circles in her back which calmed her down.

“Okay. I promise. I love you so much.” she cupped his face and kissed him. Everytime they kiss, it’s like the first time for Yoonji. The excitement, love, content, pain, everything is a new emotion.

And now, at the age of 25, she’s marrying the love of her life. She can’t believe it took them two decades to tie a knot on their love story. What with Yoongi handing the company over to her and the fiasco with her parents, but this is finally it. Hoseok had brought her to the old park where they met, telling her he has to meet a client living nearby. She waited by the swing where she was pushed and when Hoseok came back, he was carrying a bouquet of white roses and he looked nervous.

“What’s the occasion? Is it our monthsary? Oh no did I mix up the dates again?” she asked confused.

“No. It isn’t. But it’s the anniversary from when I first met you.” Hoseok inhaled sharply.

“The first time I saw you, I was immediately mesmerized with your cat-like eyes and porcelain skin but there was something else, a pull. A force from destiny that pushed me to help you that day. And I’m glad I did. Because I met you. I met the most amazing person in the world. We were never perfect but when we’re together we fill in those flaws and make each other whole. I don’t think I’ll find anybody that makes my heart swell with so much love yet manage to infuriate me at the same time. You’re my best friend, Ji. My movie buddy even though we always watch those horror films that you like which frankly scares me half to death. My videogame enemy. My eating comrade.  My love. My pillar. My home. My whole world. I love you so much, and if you would want to make me the happiest man in the world, would you like to be my wife, too?” By the time her eyes became clear, thanks to Hoseok wiping her tears, Hoseok was kneeling down in front of her smiling widely and eyes sparkling with so much love she felt warmth seep into her every being.

“Yes. Seokie, I will.” she hugged him and they kiss passionately.

It was later that she noticed that Yoongi and Jimin were there too filming the whole thing and there were lights set up around the playground.

And now, as she lay in bed with her new husband, legs tangled under a mess of white sheets and her head pressed against his chest, she can’t help but think, this right here with Hoseok looking lovingly at her, is where she had always belong.

And she can’t wait to spend the rest of their lives being in each other’s arms.
