Notes:

Helloo! If you're here from the start of my old fanfic, I decided to cancel it as I no longer felt motivated.
I'm going to try to post ATLEAST once every week with a minimum of 3k words per chapter. I'm pretty young so sorry if my writing isn't too good!

Anyway, please enjoy :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

UA High.

It was Izuku Midoriya's second year there. And oh boy, could he not be more excited.

After a insane, action-packed start to his first year at Yuuei which featured countless villian attacks on the school, the kidnapping of his childhood best friend Katsuki Bakugou, and the retirement of his favorite and the best pro hero - All Might, the UA first-years had gone through alot. Although now, it was a new beginning. They got another chance at the UA Sports Festival, a chance to rise and grab offers to pro hero agencies. They got another chance at the interships that they had failed, or had to be put on hold because of the Nomu. They got another chance to shine and make their quirks even greater then before. And you bet, Class 2-A was going to make the most of their second year.

After a small exam to change up the classes slightly, Class 2-A had 3 new members. Shinsou Hitoshi from 1-C and Tetsutetsu Tetsutesu and Itsuka Kendo from 1-B had joined up with Class 2-A. Sadly, some students didn't manage to pass the exam. Minoru Mineta, Koji Koda and Rikido Sato had failed the exam. Although sad to see their classmates leave their class and go to a new one, it was okay. It was a new chance to make some friendships. Maybe something more.

June 1, 2020. 7:00am.

Izuku woke up to his ears being drowned out by the sound of his alarm clock. Yawning, Izuku slowly opened his eyes to wake up for the day. Figurines and posters of All Might watched over the greenette as he rose from his bed and ran his hand through his hair. Izuku sleepily checked his phone for the time, however his eyes glanced at another thing.

"It's June 1st? Wait...." the greenette began to think to himself before it hit him. It was June 1st! His second year was beginning at UA! No longer tired, Izuku ran into his closet to grab his uniform. Waiting for him was a dust gray blazer, and a blood-red tie to accompany it. The golden button on the tie glistened in the rays of sunshine that peaked through the blinds of his bedroom window. A pair of navy blue trousers hung up, before being grabbed by Izuku. He put them on, and ran into his kitchen to eat his breakfast, where he met his mother, Inko Midoriya.

"Mom! Mom! It's my first day of my second year! What do you think we will do? Do you think we'll start up with a endurance test like our first year? Or or, maybe, we have to do a quirk assessment? Also, who do you reckon got replaced? I hope it's not Kacchan! I don't think it'll be him or Uraraka or Iida or Todoroki or Kirishima because they're super strong! What do you think the people who got kicked think? I bet they feel so bad they were switched, what do you think Mom-" Izuku began, his mouth running in circles of excitement. He was so stocked to begin his first year, how could he not begin to start rambling on everything?

"Jeez Izuku, you sure are excited!" She smiled at her son, ruffling his hair and motioning for him to come sit down. Izuku sheepishly smiled before walking over to the table, pulling out the wooden chair and sitting down.

"Sorry Mom, I was rambling, wasn't I?"

"Yeah but it's okay! I made pancakes!" Inko replied, shaking her head in denial to his claim. The mother started to bring him over one of his favorite meals so he could have a energy-filled start to his day.

"REALLY? Thank you Mom!" Izuku looked down happily at the meal his mom had made him, beginning to enjoy every bite of the sweet food. The delicious meal consisted of four pancakes - each topped with a layer of melting chocolate sauce that dashed around the pancake, honey that drizziled and sugar that was sprinkled floated around.

"These are so, SO good!" He tried to say, but his mouth was full of food. Izuku quickly covered his mouth for his rudeness before he heard a soft chuckle from his mother. She wasn't mad, she looked so happy. Her little boy, originally quirkless, had come so far. He had survived many, many broken bones from all the times he couldn't quite control his quirk, but he was trying his best to get better at it. He had lived after many deadly villian attacks, including his life-risking mission to save Katsuki from the villian All Might had to retire to, All For One. He pulled through his first year and was about to jump straight into the risks and enjoyment of his second.

Across the room, the clock rung 7:30 and Izuku said goodbye to his Mom before running out the door, running into a fresh new start.

June 1, 2020. 7:56am.

Izuku Midoriya ran upto the stairs of UA highschool, the school of the next generation of future pro heroes who would be known to save the world. Upon those marble steps stood Ochako Uraraka and Tenya Iida, Izuku's two best friends. Uraraka was his first friend, because she had helped him when he had nearly fallen over using her quirk, Zero Gravity. It allowed her to make things weightless and it came in pretty useful. The other was Iida, the guy who had told him to stop muttering during the opening presentation. Since then, Izuku had now become pretty good friends with the class rep. Maybe he'd be the new class rep this year, or maybe it'd be Momo Yaoyorozu, last year's vice class rep. It didn't really matter since they both were extremely responsible and scarily good at running things. He smiled at them and they returned smiles back before Izuku ran upto the duo, waving at the brunette girl and blue-headed boy.

"Hey, Uraraka! Iida!" Izuku started, happily looking at them.

"Deku! Hii!" chirped in Uraraka sweetly, grinning at the greenette. She questioned, "How was your half term? Mine turned out pretty good!"

"It was pretty good thanks, Uraraka! How are you, Iida?"

"Hello Midoriya, welcome back! Personally, I feel pretty great after this long period of rest but now we need to get back to working on our quirks!" Iida stated, adjusting his glasses and smiling nicely at the two. Iida was right though, they did need to keep improving their quirks to become pro heroes.

"That's awesome! Oh, the bell just rung." Izuku rubbed the back of his head, looking up at the UA symbol that watched over him.

"Alright, Deku, Iida, let's do our best!" Uraraka sang, putting her hand in for a gesture.

"PLUS ULTRA!"

June 1st, 2020. 8:02am.

Inside the classroom, many different voices could be heard, There was the bubbly laughter of Mina Ashido who was laughing at Shouto Todoroki, who had just made a mini ice-sculpture of a frog. Along with that, the small "Ribbit" that Tsuyu Asui occasionally said could be heard along with Mina and Todoroki. Intense, loud yelling came from Eijirou Kirishima and Denki Kaminari while having a thumb war. Muffled giggles came from over with Mashirao Ojiro who was with Tooru Hagakure, they were a couple. It was pretty nice seeing them together, and Hagakure really liked Ojiro. Yuga Aoyama was rambling to Shoji about how he had gone to France and had eaten the best, most expensive cheese they had. Shoji looked pretty fed up of Aoyama, but he tolerated the frenchmen. Sero Hanta, Kyouka Jirou and Fumikage Tokoyami were talking about how they'd been and if they had improved their quirks over their summer break. Then there was the great lines of Katsuki Bakugou who was pushing Neito Monoma from 2-B out of his way, and he was sneering "Move it, extra! You're in my way."

Izuku sighed at his childhood friend's signature line of "extras" before walking into the classroom with Uraraka and Iida. Uraraka walked over to Mina and began to endlessly talk about everything they had done, while Iida had walked over to Yaoyorozu to try and quiet the class down. Meanwhile, 3 empty seats were available, presumably for the 3 replacements to Mineta, Koda and Sato. Izuku spotted Todoroki making random things out of his ice and smiled. Todoroki's quirk was pretty cool. To be fair, everything about Todoroki was pretty cool; from his quirk, to his face, to his personality, everything seemed so... beautiful?

'I must just be nervous... yeah, that's it. Just nervousness.' Izuku muttered to himself, before walking over to his desk and sitting down, waiting for their new homeroom teacher. Eventually, Iida managed to get everyone to quiet down just in time so the new homeroom teacher showed up.

It wasn't a new teacher.

"Mr. Aizawa!" The class shouted in joy, looking up at the tired man who had entered. He gave them a small smile and said, "Hey guys. Welcome back."

To be honest, Izuku was pretty glad his homeroom teacher had stayed exactly like it was before. He gave them that challenge that made them improve, that strive that made them unique. That question to whether they could go plus ultra or not. It was a nice reunion, and the class interrogated the pro hero for answers of who the new students were.

"Okay okay, I get your excited, but I'll show you the new students. Come on in guys." Aizawa said before opening the door, and three familiar faces walked in happily. Well, most of them looked happy. One of them looked alot like the tired teacher they had, but that was kinda expected.

"Shinsou Hitoshi. My quirk's brainwashing. Hi." The purple-haired guy called Shinsou introduced himself, he was a tired one. His eyes hung dark black bags under them and his amethyst eyes darted across the class and met Izukus. They had fought in the Sports Festival in their first year, and Izuku had won. He gave a small nod before turning back around.

"Helloo! I'm Itsuki Kendo, my quirk is Big Fist! Nice to see you!" The airheaded girl spoke up, smiling and waving at Yaoyorozu, her old internship partner. Her blue eyes jumped in glee as the ginger-haired girl said hello, and she looked around the class to get a glimpse of 2-A. After, she gave the other guy a small push as to let him know that it was his turn to speak.

"Heyy, Kirishima!" the grey-haired guy began, grinning a toothy grin at the other redhead with a quirk that let them control their skin." Oh, I'm Tetsutetsu Tetsutesu! My quirk's Steel, it's alot like Kirishimas!" he explained, giving a thumbs up as his yellow eyes looked forward at the people infront of him.

"These guys are the replacements for Minoru Mineta, Koji Koda and Rikido Sato. Sad to say, but they failed the entrance exam. They're all in 2-C, which is now a extra unit for heroes instead of the General Studies course. I hope you all get along." Aizawa stated before walking out to go and grab his laptop.

Kirishima immediately ran upto Tetsutetsu and fist-bumped him. They had faced eachother in the Sports Festival, and it ended in a draw the first time since they both had skin-hardening quirks. Kirishima could make his rock-hard, while Tetsutetsu made his skin steel. In the end, Kirishima won in a thumb war match but they remained good friends for their share of a similar quirk.

"Dude, its so manly that you got to be with me!"

"Yeah bro, I'm gonna beat you this time!"

"But I'm Bakugou's personal punching bag-" Kirishima slipped, immediately going red.

"Huhh? What'd you say shitty hair?" Bakugou sneered, spinning on his desk towards the pair of idiots and met Kirishima's eyes with his own crimson pair.

"HE SAID THAT-"

"SHUT UP TETSU!" Kirishima yelled, trying to punch him but Tetsutetsu used his quirk so Kirishima couldn't. Kirishima huffed before whispering to Bakugou, "later." and he sat back down.

Everyone laughed at Kirishima's little mistake and carried on. On the other side of the room, Kendo had met Mina and Uraraka and they were obviously discussing something very funny because Mina couldn't stop herself from bursting out laughing and soon Kendo followed. Uraraka also found it very funny as soon she started to giggle along with the other two girls. Izuku thought they'd be friends and smiled at them. Izuku glanced across the room for any sign of Shinsou laughing but no, he was just sat down on his desk, staring out of the window.

"Hey uhm, Shinsou?" Izuku questioned, walking up to him.

"Huh? Oh, sorry. Yeah?" Shinsou answered, suddenly jolting up and spun around to look at the greenette.

---

Todoroki didn't like that for some reason. Shinsou was talking to Izuku and he didn't like it. Why? Todoroki had no clue. He'd never been the type to get jealous over anyone, let alone his classmates. Why now? Todoroki glanced at Izuku - he stared at those emerald, green eyes, that perfect, scruffy green mop of hair which signified him, the small scars that ran up his arm from breaking it using his quirk. Why now did Todoroki feel his heart flutter?

Maybe he'd never know.

Chapter Text

"Okay guys, so now you know Shinsou, Kendo and Tetsutetsu. Now, I'm sure you are all curious about what you'll be starting off with. To begin your second year, much like your first, we'll be doing a quirk assessment test in speed, strength and stamina. In that order, you will all compete to show how much you've improved since last time. Any questions?" Aizawa explained, pointing to the whiteboard to show a little diagram of a person running, lifting weights and sweating. His eyes darted around the room for a hand and Mina's shot up.

"Mr. Aizawa, isn't it unfair that someone like Tenya can run much faster then me for example because of his quirk?" Mina questioned

"No. You'll all be assessed differently so it doesn't matter about first place... Bakugou." The homeroom teacher mentioned, raising his eyebrows at the blonde boy.

"Shut up!" Bakugou snapped, knotting his eyebrows together. "I'm still gonna get first in everything!"

"Okay well you do that... anyone else?"

"How far do we have to run?" Tenya exclamined, doing his signature air-chopping motion.

"5km. Okay, I won't tell you anymore, it's gonna be a suprise. Now, go to your next lesson." Aizawa murmered before ushing the students out of his classroom.

June 1, 2020. 12:31pm.

After a tiring english lesson where the class had to write why they choose the career path of a hero, Izuku walked over to the cafeteria to meet Todoroki and Uraraka at their usual table. Iida wasn't there today, he had to go and run some chores for Nezu. Izuku remembered that Iida had said he needed to move some files from the principal's office and into the staff storage closet. He wondered why Nezu needed that done. Oh well, Izuku waved at the pair before going to grab his lunch off Lunch Rush. He had forest-green spinach with a few tomatoes in the salad, along with a bowl of delicious, piping-hot ramen. Grabbing the tray, he dashed back over to the bi-coloured boy and the brunette.

They sat down and talked a bit, it was nice. Todoroki had started to talk alot more, Izuku noticed. Huh. He wasn't normally really one to explain everything, and he definetly was not as much as a chatterbox as Uraraka. Todoroki was normally just listening in, giving occasional nods at their conversation. Contrary to that, Todoroki was actively trying to engage in conversation and was speaking about his half term

His sea-blue eyes lit up in delight as he rambled on about how it was amazing, how his father, Endeavor, was away for all of it. He ecstaticlly described his mother, Rei. From his description, she had snow-white hair like Shouto's right side, and a ice quirk to fit in right with her looks. Her eyes were a dusty grey and looked quite happy when he had visited. Todoroki had always had pretty bad family issues in his childhood, Izuku knew that much. None of his class really dragged on the topic about it as it was normally an uncomforable topic for the half-hot half-cold quirk user to discuss.

"Wow, Todoroki, that's awesome!" Izuku squealed, jumping up and down.

"It really wasnt that cool, Midoriya. Sorry if I'm talking too much."

"No, no, its fine!" the greenette exclaimed, shaking his head.

"Thanks for listening though. It really helped." Todoroki admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. He had gotten alot off his mind talking to Izuku, including how happy he was at his father being away at an agency all term. Why was talking to this green-haired guy so.... relaxing? Todoroki felt like he could just tell Izuku about all of his issues and he wouldn't judge him for it. It was really great, you know, having this boy as Todoroki's emotional support pillar. It was so nice just to talk to him and he could go on and on...

Todoroki had known Izuku was strong since their first day at UA, and bit by bit he gained better control of his quirk. It seemed like at the beginning, the greenette didn't have much control over his overly strong quirk, which seemed to boost strength and agility. He always broke his bones from fights and often was in Recovery Girl's office to help his body recover from the injuries he sustained.

After his intership and the fight he, Iida and Izuku had with Stain, Izuku had seemed to be able to make his quirk run through all of his body instead of just one body part. It had really helped in their battle with the bloody-thirsty hero killer that Izuku could control it like that. He had sent Todoroki his text and he had rushed over to assist the pair of fighters.
In the end, they won the battle however since they didn't have their pro hero licenses yet, all three of their interships were cancelled due to injuries and they had to give credit to Endeavor.

Todoroki really didn't like the fact that all the credit had gone to his dad for defeating the lethal killer, but it had to be done. They might of gotten a even harsher punishment if they hadn't agreed to these terms. Iida went to avenge his brother, Tensei Iida, Todoroki learned as Stain had fully made his lower body immobile for along time. Izuku had saw Iida and had came along to fight him and had sent the location text to Todoroki so that they could help.

After that whole scenario, during the Sports Festival, Midoriya had helped Todoroki to begin to use his fire. The bi-coloured boy hated to use his left side due to his abusive past with his father. He refused to use the fire quirk he possessed, and instead relied on his mom's ice quirk to become strong. Izuku had pushed him and told him that it was his quirk. His quirk, not his fathers. That was the beginning point when Todoroki had began to realise how amazing Izuku Midoriya was.

During time, Todoroki had seen everything about him. His small ramble of muttering. The occassional note-taking on his fellow classmates. The scars left on his arm from all the broken bones.
