Rays of Sunshine {DISCONTINUED}

Summary:

He felt the sun on his skin as he sat on the roof, his legs dangling over the edge. The slight breeze flew through his hair, ruffling it.

Or, Todoroki Shouto is sitting on the roof of UA contemplating his failures.

Sorry, I’m not good at summaries. The actual story is better, I promise.

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Shouto felt the sun on his skin as he sat on the roof, his legs dangling over the edge. The slight breeze flew through his hair, ruffling it. He took a deep inhale, watching as the sun rose higher and higher in the sky. He thought about how his mother used to take him out to see the sun, before his father was up.

“See that? As long as the sun rises, the world will keep spinning.” She would tell him as they sat in the garden. “The rays show that there is hope. No matter what.” She used to run her fingers through his hair, ruffling the red and white of his hair together. Her smile was tired, but happy as she watched her son revel at the sight of the sun coming up.

That was many years ago, though, and it had been so long since he had watched the sunrise with his mother. Now, he watched the sunrise alone, dreading the day that would come after. Dreading the wrath of his father that rocked his family to its core.

The wrath that had killed his brother. He could still hear the screams as the training room went up in blue flames.

The wrath that had made his other brother leave. Oni-San, please! Don’t leave me alone with him.

The wrath that had made his sister give up on her dreams. Nee-San, why aren’t you a hero? You always said you wanted to save people?

The wrath that had made a mother turn on her son. Why would you hurt me? You said you would always protect me.

The wrath that he had to endure everyday, in the form of kicks and punches. He sighed again as wind blew across his face, caressing his ugly scar that covered his left side of his face. His brand on me, He thought as he brought his hand up to cover the scar. Suddenly, he remembered the words Izuku Midoriya had spoken to him during their battle. “It’s your power, Todoroki! Yours, not his!” The words were what had shocked him through. He had always that that his fire was just a curse from his father, a piece of him that never fit in. But, when Midoriya shouted those words, something had lit in his soul. He remembered his mother telling him that all quirks were unique to the individual, that it was his quirk, not his fathers. He smiled again and he thought back to the fight’s end. The huge structure of ice, and the warmth of the flames burning as he expelled them toward his first ever friend.

That was the first time he had ever used his flames outside training with his father. After that, he used his flames more. He trained them, vowing to have them as strong as his ice. Yet, he still held back, in fear of becoming his father. In fear of turning those flames onto someone he loved.

In Hosu, he had fought the Hero Killer with his flames. He protected his friends when they were frozen, but he barely even kept him away. Just as Stain was coming in for the last slice, he said he relied on his quirk too much. After everything was said and done, he realized he did rely on his quirk. He relied on his father’s damned fire quirk to protect his own petty existence.

It was no different in the Training Camp. He had used his flames only to make sure Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow was reined back under control. Then, he couldn’t even fight the flames of the villain, Dabi. It was all his fault that Bakugou was captured, and, in turn, All Might’s downfall.

And during the Quirk License Test! He had only burdened his ally, making it harder, no, impossible for Inasa to lay a scratch on Gang Orca. He was the sole reason why they had to take the remedial training.

All of these failures, and there’s two simple reasons for all of them; my old man’s damned fire quirk, and my own stupid, illogical self. Another gust of wind came by, only this time hitting his back. He swayed forward a little, looking down at the concrete below him. Would it really be that bad if I just… fell? He wondered, looking back up at the sun, which by this point had fully risen. Nobody would miss me. It’s not like I’m worth anything. He closed his eyes, and let out a quiet breath. He opened his eyes again, and looked at the wide expanse of air above him. Somewhere, in the depths of his head, he heard his friend, Midoriya screaming at him not to do it. But, by that point, he had locked away, along with the rest of his emotions.

They all would do better without me dragging them down, He stretched his hand out to the sun. I’m just a burden.

“I think mother was right about the sun.” He whispered, bringing his hand down to his lap. “It seems to give hope to everyone.” He looked down at his hand.

“Except for me.”

He tipped forward, feeling more calm than he ever had. His eyes were trained on the ground, watching as he slowly slipped off the building. The last coherent thought he had was,

I’m coming, Touya.

Chapter 2: NOT A CHAPTER - Update

Chapter Text

Hey! I just wanted you guys to know that the second chapter is in the works! Yay! 😁

Sadly, my mom is making me go to this ‘movie technology’ camp, so it won’t be out for a while, but do not worry! I am trying my hardest to get it finished!

Thank you so much for your patience! I’m really trying my hardest, and your comments make my day!

Anyways, see you later! (Or not)

Chapter 3: Chapter 2

Notes:

*sticks head out of procrastination hole* hi.

I am so sorry for this being so late. Recently, I’ve just been having a lot of bad days where I just can’t write, so I’m very happy for your patience.

This chapter was interesting to write, as I normally don’t do Aizawa’s POV.

Anyways! Hope you enjoy the chapter!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Aizawa had just gotten into the classroom, and was setting it up for his first class when he saw Todoroki sitting on the roof. Since the school had been attacked by villains on multiple occasions, they had cameras everywhere. Todoroki sitting on the roof wasn’t an unusual sight, since he was up there every afternoon to see the sun rise. What was unusual was how close he was to the edge. Aizawa has assumed Todoroki was one of his rational students, the calm in the storm that was called class 1-A.

So why was the only non-problem child
in his class sitting so close to the edge?

As Aizawa continued to watch, he noticed how Todoroki seemed to hold a sad air around him, as if he was regretting something. The ice and fire user raised his hand up, and put it out in front of him. Almost as if he was trying to touch the sun. When he brought it back down, Aizawa suddenly put the pieces together. Sitting on the edge of a building. Acting like he regretted something. A sad demeanor.

All the pieces connected just as he saw the look of finality on Todoroki’s face. Shouta raced out of the classroom, going faster than he had ever gone in his life.

All he could think was, Don’t let me be too late.

Midnight’s POV

Nemuri was walking through the hallways of UA when she saw Aizawa. He was running like his life depended on it, which was a rare sight, seeing as Aizawa hated all physical activity except for hero work. As he passed Nemuri, he shouted something. The only things the R-rated hero could catch were “Todoroki” and “roof.” She ran after him, determined to see what got him so scared. Nemuri has never seen Shouta like this in her life. They both ran through the halls, picking up Yamada(Present Mic) along the way, who got the same greeting as Nemuri. As they got to the roof stairs, Shouta seemed to fly up them, even using his capture weapon to launch himself forwards.

When they got to the top of the stairs, Midnight was panting heavily. She lifted her head just in time to see Aizawa throw his capture weapon around a person. The said person’s head fell against the concrete with a sickening crack. Nemuri races over, only to be beaten by Present Mic. He seemed to fly over the concrete rooftop as he raced over to Aizawa and the student. Midnight caught a glimpse of red and white hair, and immediately felt sick. What is Todoroki from class 1A doing up here? And why did Eraser seem in such a hurry? Suddenly, she fit the pieces together. A student on the edge of a rooftop. Eraser pulling him away from the edge? O-oh god. He was about to jump.

Notes:

Sooo, that was intense. Next chapter (which will hopefully come out soon) will show more of Present Mic and Aizawa’s POV.

If any of you were confused, Nemuri is Midnight’s real name, and Yamada is Present Mic’s real name.

Anyways, see you later! (Or not..)

Chapter 4: Chapter 3

Summary:

Yea, this is my last draft for this book, cause I wanna post it. :////

Chapter Text

Present Mic POV

When Present Mic saw Midnight and Aizawa racing down the hallway, he was sure the world was ending. For one, Aizawa hated physical activity during school, and two, Midnight had taken off her heels so she could run faster. Midnight loves her heels. Mic was about to question them when Aizawa yelled something at him. Something about roofs and… one of his students? He seemed distressed, so Mic took off after him and Midnight.

It wasn’t long before it was clear where they were running.

As Aizawa slammed the roof door open, Present Mic only had one sinking thought. Why would a student be on the roof, and why is Aizawa in such a hurry about it? Mic already had a feeling of why the student was on the roof, but he refused to acknowledge it.

He refused to acknowledge it until he saw Todoroki Shouto getting dragged away from the edge of the building. Aizawa’s capture weapon was wrapped around Todoroki so many times it was nearly impossible to count, as if he was afraid that Shouto would slip through it. Mic winced as he heard Shouto’s head hit the concrete with a sickening clonk. His eyes, filled with tears, gave one last burst of emotion before shutting.

Eraserhead POV

No. This couldn’t be happening. Todoroki, one his most dedicated, level-headed student did not just attempt to throw himself off a building.

Chapter 5: A/N

Summary:

This is long overdue

Chapter Text

Hey, it’s me, the worst person to exist. I was going through all my old things and found this. I am sorry to say that this will probably be discontinued. I’ve lost interest in this show, and don’t think I can continue writing this. So, yea. I’m very sorry :/

Notes:

So... hi? This is my fist fan fiction I’ve posted, like, ever, so please, don’t hate on me too bad. I don’t know whether I should just leave the story here, or if you would like more. Please, tell me your opinion in the comments!

Uh, anyways, see you later! (Or not..)
