Work Text:
Giyuu stood with his whistle in his mouth, staring absently at the students running around the gym. Their sneakers squeaked loudly against the wooden floors, filling his ears of nothing but that annoying noise, but it didn’t pull him from his wandering mind. His thoughts were elsewhere in the school and he couldn’t keep focus on the students basketball game.
A white shirt kept popping into his mind, unbuttoned at the top, exposing a scarred collarbone. Or the purple eyes with long lashes that fluttered across a marked cheek, a shit eating grin, or messy white hair. That stupid math teacher.
It wasn’t that Giyuu didn’t like Sanemi, he actually liked him a lot. To the point of developing a crush on him, making it hard not to swoon at his every word. It was annoying as hell. He had better things to do than daydream about the math teacher, but he consumed his every waking thought. Why? Because Sanemi was getting flirtier with him and Giyuu was starting to think that maybe his feelings weren’t one sided. He doubted it, really, but he still wanted to hope even if he kept himself closed off and aloof.
Giyuu blew the whistle, the sharp noise cut through the air and silence fell over the gymnasium. Every student halted and looked towards him.
“Class is over, hit the showers,” he yelled and turned to go back into his office. The students began putting away the basketball and jerseys, running back into the locker rooms to change. Giyuu put his elbows on his desk, resting his chin there. He watched through his window as the students came back into the gym fully dressed, heading to the double doors into the hallway.
It would be lunch soon and that meant that him and Sanemi would eat together in the math teacher’s classroom, instead of the breakroom. His stomach flipped at the thought, causing him to bury his flushed face in his hands. It was so embarrassing how flustered the man made him, just like a teenager, he was a grown man he should be more put together than this. But he couldn’t help it, Giyuu was so swept up in Sanemi, it nearly had him giggling like a girl.
When the bell rang, he grabbed his bento and walked into the hall, wandering slowly to the math classroom. He didn’t want to seem too eager, even if he wanted to walk as quickly as possible. When he made it inside, he peered in the door to see Sanemi stretching to erase the board. His shirt rode up a little bit, exposing his hip, and Giyuu’s eyes were glued there. His heart leapt into his throat and it took everything in him to tear his eyes away to knock on the door.
“Ready for lunch?” Giyuu walked into the room and dropped his box onto Sanemi’s desk.
“Yeah, I have somewhere else planned for us,” he turned around and smiled.
“Somewhere else? Did you want to go into the breakroom?”
“No, that’s not private enough, Giyuu .”
Private enough , Giyuu thought, and he flushed. He gripped his box with a nervous hand. What could he mean? They were always alone in the classroom, that was private. What was he planning?
“It’s private in here, why do you want--”
“Just follow me,” Sanemi grabbed his own box and walked out the classroom door and left down the hall. Giyuu shuffled after him, a couple steps behind so as not to accidentally find a reason to brush their hands together as they walked. He shook the thought from his mind as they came upon the stairs to the roof.
“The roof?”
“Yeah, different scenery and fresh air. I think you’ll like it,” Sanemi put a hand on the banister.
“But we’re not allowed up there, they’ve locked it off and everything.”
Sanemi furrowed his brows, growing annoyed with Giyuu’s attitude, “How about you just trust me for once?”
That shut him up, leaving him nodding without a sound. Sanemi reached out and grabbed him by the wrist, tugging him up the stairs and Giyuu couldn’t stop thinking about how big his hand was.
Sanemi pushed on the door, but it wouldn’t budge, at least not a first. When he couldn’t get it a second time, he let go of Giyuu’s wrist and slammed his body weight into it, and it swung open with a clunk . He might have broken the lock, but he seemed so pleased with himself that Giyuu couldn’t find the will to care.
When they walked through the door they were enveloped in sunshine, it was a clear sky and the sun was at its peak. Walking up to the wall, they could overlook the school's campus, students running around and the looming cherry blossoms everywhere. It was really nice.
“This is gorgeous, I definitely needed the fresh air,” Giyuu turned to face Sanemi, “Thank you for--”
He was cut off by Sanemi crowding into his space, their chests bumping together and Giyuu almost falling backwards in surprise. A strong arm grabbed him by the waist, pulling him against the teacher, and Giyuu placed his hands on his chest. His face was scarlet as he realized their position.
“S-Sorry, I didn’t know you were so--so close I--”
“Do you like me, Tomioka?”
Giyuu stared at him, his blood ran cold and his mouth hung open in shock. The blush that painted his face now drained from his features. His stomach lurched. Yet , Sanemi was still holding him close. If he leaned forward just a little bit, their noses would touch.
“What do you--”
“Giyuu, do you like me? I won’t ask again,” Sanemi’s grip tightened around his waist, pulling them ever closer, causing Giyuu to gasp.
“Y-Yes, I do like you,” he held his breath. It felt like the hope he held was blossoming, but he steeled himself not to celebrate.
“Good,” was all he said before he leaned forward to place a small kiss on Giyuu’s lips.
It happened so quickly that he almost didn’t have time to register what happened. There was a kiss, then he was left standing there as Sanemi took his lunch to sit against the wall.
“You coming to eat?”
“Did you--”
“Kiss you?”
Giyuu nodded numbly, hands frozen in the air from where they were placed on Sanemi’s chest. The math teacher was settled against the wall of the entrance, bento box open and his chopsticks in his hand. He didn’t look surprised, he didn’t have any reaction at all really. It drove Giyuu nuts.
“You can’t just-- You can’t just kiss me without any explanation!”
“You said you liked me?”
“Yeah, and I do. But you never said you liked me or anything.”
“I kissed you,” Sanemi took a bite of his food, “I only do that to people I like. Like, really like.”
Giyuu flushed again, speechless. He didn’t know how to retort or what to say. Sanemi said he really liked him, embraced him, and kissed him. What more could he ask for? Shinazugawa was a straightforward man, he said what he meant and that’s all there was to it. So he likes Giyuu back, they kissed, and now they were sitting against the wall eating lunch together like they always did. When they were done they held hands and made plans for a date that weekend. And when the bell rang again, they kissed until they really needed to go back to their classrooms.
Back in his office, Giyuu held his face in his hands and giggled like a girl in love.
