School Day Sorrows [One Shot Collection]

Summary:

This is a collection of Weak Hero one shots revolving around the characters that tend to be on the sadder and more serious side.

Chapter 1: Big Brother (Kenny Ji)

Chapter Text

Kenny Ji laid in his hospital bed. The reoperation  had been a success. With a lot of time and therapy, he would be able to walk again. However, the doctor's statement from when he had first been hospitalized was still the same.

He would never be able to run again. He would never be able to play soccer again. He would never be able to achieve his dream of becoming a soccer player.

His dreams had been shattered the moment the wooden beam shattered his leg.

'Maybe I deserved this,' He thought bitterly.

He had been an idiot in middle school when he first joined Manwol Union. In his first year of middle school, he looked up to Manwol. In his eyes, they were the strongest and coolest. He wanted to be just like them.

When he was accepted into their ranks, he happily participated in Manwol Union activities. Whether it was bullying other students, stealing, or vandalism, he didn't care and happily complied.

He was cool. He was popular. He was happy.

Then, his little brother began to mimic his behavior. Jake began to get into fights in school. When Kenny asked why, Jake simply answered that he was just following what Kenny did.

That was when Kenny realized that Jake looked up to him.

Kenny decided that he would change. When he got into high school, he began to distance himself from the rest of Manwol. He wanted to leave, but he couldn't work up the courage.

He made his decision when the head of Manwol, Changyeon Lee, wanted to recruit Jake.

The thought of his little brother going around and doing the same criminal activities that he himself had been doing...sickened him. He knew that he wouldn't get off easy, but he wouldn't drag Jake into such a shitty mess.

He should've known better. Of course Jake would want revenge. To get the necessary reinforcements, Jake joined the Yeongdeungpo Union.

As much as Kenny hated to say it, but it was better that Jake joined Yeongdeungpo instead of Manwol. Donald Na gave Jake more freedom than Manwol would have. He wasn't too strict about Jake's deadlines either. The steady stream of income was also a plus and paid off Kenny's medical bills.

'Maybe this is karma for all the bad things I did back when I was in Manwol,'

So this one shot collection is the opposite of Donald Na X Gravy. This one shot collection has more serious themes. There may be some AU chapters, such as another Donald Na's Sibling story, but it will still have a serious theme.

Chapter 2: Guilt (Jake)

Chapter Text

'It's my fault...'

After Jake returned home from defeating Manwol, he fell to his knees and finally broke down into tears.

'Manwol attacked him because Kenny refused to let them recruit me...'

Kenny's dreams were crushed because of him.

'If I had laid low...If I hadn't drawn attention to myself...If I hadn't defeated Naksung Fam...then Manwol wouldn't have noticed me. They wouldn't have wanted me to join them and Kenny wouldn't have had to refuse like that. He wouldn't have gotten hurt!'

His big brother would never be able to run again. His leg was permanently damage and would never heal completely.

'It's my fault! My fault! My fault!'

"Jake?" Dean called as he entered the Ji's house.

"Dean..." Jake managed to rasp out.

Jake had been furious when he found out what Manwol Union did to his brother and used his rage to fuel his attacks. Even after Manwol was destroyed, he was still angry, but at the moment his grief and sorrow took over.

Dean knelt down and brought his friend into a hug. He wouldn't be able to ease the pain. Hell, he himself was affected by the incident because he also viewed Kenny as an older brother, but Jake was in more pain than him.

He wasn't going to say something cheesy like "It's going to be okay" because that'd be a lie. Nothing was going to be okay. Kenny wouldn't be able to recover completely and Jake was stuck working for Donald Na to repay his debt.

The one thing Dean could do was stay by Jake's side through all of it.

I feel like Jake feels at least some guilt even though Kenny tells him that it's not his fault.

If you thought Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 were sad, just wait until Chapter 3.

Chapter 3: Heartache (Donald)

Chapter Text

Heartache
(Noun) Emotional anguish or grief, typically caused by the loss or absence of someone loved

To feel heartache, one had to be emotionally attached to something or someone. One had to love something or someone. It did not restrict to romantic love, but also extended to platonic relationships such as friendships and familial relationships.

Donald Na had no family. He had no friends (according to himself). He had no romantic interests. Everyone knew that. Everyone knew that he only cared about two things: money and himself.

Yet...his heart felt so heavy that it was painful. He took some painkillers, but those did nothing to alleviate this ache in his chest.

"You did this to me!" Donald yelled in his empty office. "You did this to me, Kingsley!"

He did not understand why his voice was strained and sounded so...so broken.

Kingsley Kwan was gone and would never return. He would never greet Donald each morning. He would never hand in a weekly report. He would never make some small talk with Donald during downtimes.

Donald would never see his smile again. It was that fucking smile that brightened his day whenever he was stressed out with Union business. When he had first seen that smile, he had wanted to somehow capture it and keep it only for himself so no one else could lay eyes on it.

He had not realized that he had been crying. He, the great Donald Na, the high schooler who ruled Yeongdeungpo, was crying.

"Why?" He rasped out. "Why did you do this to me?"

He received no answer in his empty office.

"Why..." Donald curled up rested his forehead on the cold floor. "Why did you take the bullet for me?"

Donald was always prepared for fights where his opponents used weapons, especially if they wanted to revenge. He knew how to win against knives, bats, chains, and the such. But with how strict the gun laws were in South Korea, he would have never thought that someone would bring a gun and actually try to kill him.

Kingsley, who had been fighting alongside him, had noticed and shoved Donald out of the way. Donald had been about to demand what Kingsley's problem was but his already pale skin grew paler when he saw blood dripping from Kingsley's chest.

The group of thugs apparently hadn't thought that they would actually kill someone and quickly fled the scene.

Donald didn't bother to even attempt to chase after them. His eyes were focused on the scarlet stain quickly spreading throughout Kingsley's Yeo-Il shirt.  "K..." For some reason, his words were stuck in his throat.

Kingsley swayed and lost his balance, collapsing just a few feet away from Donald.

His legs wouldn't stand so Donald forced himself to crawl over to his fallen comrade. He sat up and cradled Kingsley's upper body in his arms. "Kingsley..."

"Donald..." Kingsley's voice was so weak. "You should...chase after them..."

"I-I'll deal with them later," Fuck, why was he stuttering. Kingsley was going to survive! Donald took out his cell phone and desperately called for an ambulance.

The ambulance never made it in time.

It wasn't until he had actually lost Kingsley did Donald realize how much he had meant to him.

This is an AU where Kingsley died taking a bullet meant for Donald. Donald's love for Kingsley in this story could be seen as either platonic or romantic, depending on how you guys want to see it.

Chapter 4: History (Wolf and Sam)

Chapter Text

They used to be inseparable. They used to be best friends.

Believe it or not, but Wolf Imma-beat-the-shit-outta-ya Keum, the Purple Demon of Ganghak, used to actually care about Sam Lee.

They met each other in elementary school, much like how Ben Park and Alex Go had met each other. Wolf and Sam hit off great and the two became friends instantly. They always played with each other during break times, ate together during lunch, and chose to be each other's partners for group projects.

Yeah, there was a time where Wolf was an innocent smol bean.

But what happened to their friendship? What caused Wolf to hate Sam enough to beat him up at any given opportunity?

It was in the first year of middle school when their relationship became fucked up.

Sam and Wolf had been placed in separate classes, on the opposite sides of the school building. The first few days were fine. The two boys would meet up before school, at lunch, during break time, and after school. They would catch up for the day and happily chat together.

Then, Sam began to get bullied. The middle school head had been placed in Sam's class and constantly tormented him. There was nothing Wolf could do. The bully had his goons always by his side. He would be easily overpowered and outnumbered, even if he and Sam fought together.

Wolf tried to make Sam forget about the painful moments when they were together. He would treat him to food and they'd play at the arcade or at one of their houses. He would joke around and try to make Sam smile or laugh.

One day, during lunch time, Sam hadn't met with him at their usual meeting spot. Wolf made his way to Sam's classroom and saw that Sam was kneeling on the floor with a bloody nose. The five bullies all stood in front of him. Wolf wanted to call out to Sam and try to get him away from them, but their conversation caused him to pause and listen.

"You know, beating you up all the time is getting boring. How about you bring your friend to us and we'll leave you alone from now on?"

"Y-You mean Wolf?" Sam stuttered.

"Yeah, that purple haired bastard. Bring him to the incinerator after school,"

"O-Okay...I'l bring him..."

'What?' Wolf had to have misheard, right?

"I-I'll bring him...and then...then you'll leave me alone, right?" The daily beatings and pain would stop.

Rage filled Wolf and without thinking, he barged into the classroom and attacked the bullies. All five of them ganged up on Wolf, but Wolf had underestimated his own strength. He wasn't weak. He was strong enough to take them all on. Within minutes, all five bullies lay crumpled to the floor, covered in blood and wounds.

"W-Wolf?" Sam asked. "T-Thanks—"

Wolf punched Sam in the face. "I heard what you said!" He elbowed him in the chest. "You were going to change their target to me!"

"I-I'm sorry Wolf!" Sam cried. "I just w-wanted the pain to stop!"

"We've been friends for years," Wolf glared at him. "Apparently our friendship meant nothing to you,"

"I'm sorry—"

"Shut up!" Wolf kneed him in the guts. "I'm gonna make your life a living hell!"

Friends? Wolf Keum didn't believe in friends. Friendships were meaningless. They were just a chance for someone to betray you, for someone to take advantage and hurt you. Wolf wouldn't risk having such a weakness. He didn't need friends.

After all, the one person he had considered his friend his entire life had betrayed him.

Chapter 5: Disappear (Grape)

Chapter Text

Blame @bepo_bestpolarbear on Instagram for this story. These drawings also belong to them.

During winter break, Grape had mysteriously disappeared.

Forrest, Robin, and the rest of Hyeongshin all looked for him. Eunchan, who considered Grape to be his friend no matter how tsundere the latter was, got Jake, Dean, and Timmy to also aid in the search. After a few days and no sign of the boy, Grape's parents even got the police involved.

But they never found Grape.

Months passed. Winter became spring.

Wolf Keum was out on a night walk, smoking a cigarette. He enjoyed the cool breeze on his warm skin. He noticed a figure standing still in the middle of the road. Wolf smirked, deciding that whoever the hell that was, they were unfortunate to be his victim.

But when Wolf got closer, he immediately knew who the person was. "Hey Sam, you sure caused a ruckus with your sudden disappearance. I bet you were just scared and ran away, right?"

Grape didn't flinch. He didn't tremble in fear. He didn't have the urge to run away. Instead, he stared at Wolf with dull eyes filled with confusion.

"The fuck's wrong with you?" Wolf punched Grape in the stomach to get him to stop staring.

Grape winced, but he still showed no signs of fear, just even more confusion.

"Fuck, it'd be too boring to just beat the shit outta ya," Wolf mumbled. It'd be a pain in the ass if you got hit by a car and died,"

So, Wolf dragged Grape all the way to the hospital and ditched him there.

XXX

Forrest and Robin ran through the hospital hallways and stopped only when they reached Grape's room. Grape's mom had been contacted when the hospital staff identified Grape as the missing Sam Lee. Mrs. Lee needed to confirm that it was really her baby boy and once she saw his face, she told Forrest and Robin.

"Grape?" Forrest called out while Mrs. Lee left to speak with the doctor.

'What?' Forrest and Robin were shocked by that question. 'He's joking, right?'

Grape has amnesia.

Chapter 6: Another World (Ashur and Dara)

Chapter Text

Ashur Na is from Family Chaos and Dara Na is from Dara Na. They are both Donald's brother, but Ashur is his Donald's older twin brother while Dara is a year younger than his Donald.

Two boys sat in a cafe. They hadn't taken a seat at the same table. In fact, they were both sure that when they had each entered, the cafe was empty except for the staff. But once both boys had taken a seat, the room around them had shifted and they had appeared sitting across from each other.

One boy was seventeen years old with wavy black hair and sapphire blue eyes. He had a few scars from recent surgeries, but they had mostly faded by now.

The other was an eighteen year old boy, although he was much shorter at four feet ten inches tall, and had dark purple hair and a single sky blue eye while his other eye was covered with an eyepatch. His left arm was also missing.

Before they even ordered, a waitress with light blue hair, pale skin, and red eyes placed their preferred drinks in front of them. Dara had a large ube smoothie while Ashur had a large strawberry milkshake.

"Let me guess," Dara said. "We're from separate dimensions?"

"I dunno," Ashur shrugged.

"I'm Dara Na, younger brother of Donald Na, brother-in-law of Kingsley Kwan," Dara introduced himself.

"I'm Ashur Na, older twin brother of Donald Na, brother-in-law of Kingsley Kwan, uncle of Kayden Kwan, brother-in-law of Kaia Kwan, and brother-in-law of Alain Reyes," Ashur took a long sip of his milkshake.

"Were your parents abusive assholes too?" Dara inquired.

"I don't consider them my parents," Ashur claimed. "Lukas was just my sperm donor and Amy was my egg donor. They're not real parents,"

"I can't even call Lukas and Amy my sperm donor and egg donor," Dara said as he took a big sip of his smoothie. "They're my kidnappers,"

"Kidnappers?" Ashur frowned. "I thought you were Donald's younger brother?"

"I don't even know if he considers me his brother anymore," Dara stated sadly. "Lukas and Amy threw their biological child away and just randomly grabbed me from a set of twins. I'm not actually Donald's brother. I'm just a stranger that lived with him. A stranger that he protected and as a result, Donald got hurt..."

"Family is defined by bonds, not by blood," Ashur said. "I lost my eye protecting Donald. Lukas and Amy tried to stab him but I managed to push him out of the way," He placed his hand against his eyepatch.

"Do you regret it?"

"No," Ashur shook his head. "If I turned back time to that day, I would still do the same thing over and over again, unless there was another way to ensure Donald's safety,"

"What if it turns out that you aren't related to Donald by blood?" Dara questioned. "You said you're his twin, but you look nothing like him. Would you regret it then?"

"No, because even if it turns out we aren't related by blood, I still consider him to be my precious little brother," Ashur smiled. "I will take on as much pain and injuries to ensure his survival. I'll even give my life up for him,"

Dara was silent for a moment and stared down at his drink. "Do you think Donald feels the same way about me? Or do you think he regrets me being his 'brother'?"

"Has he outright told you that you're not his brother?"

"He hasn't said anything like that to me―"

"Then you're his brother," Ashur simply told him. "Until he says you aren't, then you still are,"

A small smile made its way to Dara's face. "Thanks, Ashur,"

The waitress watched as the two teens finished their drinks and then left through the entrance, although each of them reappeared in their own world.

This one shot was OC-centric.

Chapter 7: Appear (Forrest, Robin, and Grape)

Chapter Text

@bepo_bestpolarbearmade a Part II.

"I'm sorry. I don't remember,"

Forrest brought Grape into a tight hug.

Forrest brought Grape into a tight hug

'It's not your fault that you lost your memory

'It's not your fault that you lost your memory. Don't apologize for not being able to remember,'

Don't apologize for not being able to remember,'

"Yeah," Robin nodded in agreement. He was struggling to hold back his own tears. "Grape, we'll help you regain your memories, no matter how long it takes,"

"Why...would you want to help me?" Grape asked.

"We're friends," Forrest's voice was cracking. "We're family,"

"Family?" Grape questioned. "Like...Mom?" He glanced over to the door. His mother was still speaking with the doctor.

"Yeah..." Forrest wasn't sure how long he'd be able to refrain from crying. "We're brothers..."

"Brothers?" Grape smiled. "That sounds really nice,"

XXX

Visiting hours were over and only Mrs. Lee was allowed to stay since Grape was a minor. As much as they didn't want to, Forrest and Robin had to leave. "Are you okay?" Robin asked Forrest.

"Are you okay?" Robin asked Forrest

"Yeah..." Forrest said. "I'm fine..."

"Everything's gonna be―"

"No, it won't!" Forrest snapped. "Robin, you know everything's not gonna be fine! Grape has amnesia! He doesn't remember us! He doesn't remember anyone, not even his own mother!"

"Robin, you know everything's not gonna be fine! Grape has amnesia! He doesn't remember us! He doesn't remember anyone, not even his own mother!"

"He was missing for months..." Forrest allowed himself to cry. "We weren't there for him. He needed us, but we weren't able to save him. We weren't even the ones to find him. It was Wolf who found him and dragged him to the hospital, for fuck's sake!"

"Forrest..." Robin told him. "Getting angry won't solve anything. You're right, we did fail to protect Grape. But we have him back. Like you said, we'll help him through this. It's not a hundred percent that he'll regain his memories, but we'll do our best,"

There aren't enough stories with Forrest and Robin. It's always Jake, Eunjang, Donald, and sometimes Yoosun for Jimmy X Jack.

Chapter 8: Food (Donald)

Chapter Text

When Kingsley's family first took him in, Donald ate so much he got himself sick.

He had been offered a plate piled high with food. Donald had been hesitant to accept it first but eventually dug in. He eventually got full, but there was still a lot of food left on his plate. He didn't want to waste it. If he didn't eat it, it'd go into the trash.

Donald didn't want to waste food. He didn't know if he'd be able to eat this much again. He didn't know if the Kwan's really did intend to have him become part of their family. If they kicked him out or tried to sell him to some black market...

He'd run and be living on the streets again. He'd be forced to sift through garbage and manage to eat barely enough to survive.

Even though he was completely stuffed, he continued shoveling food into his mouth.

He then threw up.

Mom Kwan and Dad Kwan were quick to help him and clean him up. They told him that he didn't have to force himself to eat if he was full.

They let him choose his own portion for the next meal, but he ended up overfilling his plate because he was still worried about starving on the streets. He didn't completely trust them yet and was still cautious of them kicking him out or trying to sell him off to some creep.

So, Mom Kwan and Dad Kwan gave Donald smaller portions. If he was still hungry, he could add more food. They made sure to keep an eye on him so he didn't eat so much that he got sick again.

After a couple weeks, Donald finally understood that these three people could be trusted. As long as he lived with them, he'd never go hungry and always have a warm bed to sleep in.

Chapter 9: Forget (Eunchan and Grape)

Chapter Text

STOP HURTING GRAPE!

Eunchan had stopped by a bakery for some cake. There was no way he'd show up to his friend's house emptyhanded. Sure, he'd make surprise visits, but he would always have something to offer. Most of the times he'd claim the thing he was offering was his friendship, further annoying the person he made unannounced visits to.

He reached the Lee's House and rang the doorbell. Forrest answered the door and let Eunchan inside without saying anything. Eunchan made his way to Grape bedroom and opened it without knocking.

But Grape's expression was pretty much a blank one with a hint of confusion.

Eunchan's smile twitched slightly but he still kept his expression bright and happy.

But Grape still showed no sign of recognizing his friend.

Eunchan hated hearing those words, but he knew it wasn't Grape's fault. He took a deep breath before speaking.

"I bought your favorite cake from the nearby bakery on my way here!" Eunchan held up the box. "Come on, let's eat!"

Grape still didn't really understand who Eunchan was but he brought food so he must be a friend of his.

'You won't forget me again...'

XXX

It was getting and Eunchan eventually had to head home. He left the rest of the cake for Grape and waved as he left Grape's room.

"Why?" Forrest asked. "Why do you keep doing this to yourself? You know he forgets more and more often. You don't have to come here,"

Eunchan allowed his smile to drop briefly.

Eunchan took a deep breath and smiled, although he was crying. "Even if he forgets about me, I still remember him. I still love him,"

"His own parents gave up on him," Forrest pointed out. "They kicked him out because they didn't want to deal with him,"

"He's still your friend and you're always there for him too," Eunchan pointed out. "You, Robin, and I all care about Grape. We won't give up on him,"

"He's not just a friend to me," Forrest claimed. "I consider him to be my brother,"

"And he's my boyfriend," Eunchan wiped his tears with the sleeve of his shirt, but he continued to cry. His voice was very strained and cracking. "I love him, Forrest. It hurts so much, but I'll endure this pain because Grape is the one suffering the most. In the brief moments he does remember, he is angry and hates himself for forgetting even though none of this is his fault," He took a deep breath before managing to regain most of his composure. "I'll stop by again tomorrow,"

He then left. As he headed home, he stared up at the night sky.

This is a Dementia AU. Forget is not related to the Amnesia AU in Disappear and Appear.

Chapter 10: Comatose (Grape)

Chapter Text

I'm sure you all know by now who drew this short comic about Grape getting hurt.
At least Grape's not dead...

Grape laid in the hospital bed, unconscious and unmoving. An oxygen mask was on his face and he had several machines hooked up to him. His entire body was covered in bandages and he had a couple broken bones.

His entire body was covered in bandages and he had a couple broken bones

There were three other people in the hospital room. Two of them were Hyeongshin students, Grape's best friends who were like brothers to him. The third person was a young woman with long, dark purple hair and black eyes. All three of them were crying.

Suddenly, the woman whirled around and punched Forrest in the face.

Suddenly, the woman whirled around and punched Forrest in the face

Forrest didn't bother defending or dodging. He did not yell or scream as blood trickled down from his nose. He only continued to cry.

 He only continued to cry

"If he hadn't met you...Grape wouldn't have been hurt!" Sarah shouted. "I never wanted him to be friends with you thugs because I knew you'd be a bad influence on him! I never wanted Grape to join a gang!" She wiped her tears with the sleeve of her jacket. "He...He was really lonely in middle school and...and I knew he was getting bullied but...but there was nothing I could do. After he graduated, we moved so he wouldn't attend the same school as his bully,"

Both Forrest and Robin knew that the bully she was talking about was Wolf.

"I didn't want you guys to be friends with him but...when he was with you guys he was so happy...he wasn't alone," Sarah said. "But you guys were the reason he joined your gang. And now...a rival gang ambushed him and...the doctor's don't know if he'll ever wake up..."

Manwol. Those fuckers had targeted Grape while he was alone and on his way home. They had outnumbered him greatly and easily overpowered him. They didn't realized that Grape had fallen unconscious after a couple minutes and continued to beat him up. Only when Grape no longer moved did they flee in fear of having killed him.

Robin had been the one to find Grape when he realized that Grape had dropped his phone, hence why the latter hadn't been able to call for help. When Robin couldn't wake Grape up, he immediately called an ambulance.

"Why?" Sarah grabbed the front of Forrest's jacket. "Why did it have to be him? My little brother had suffered enough from that bastard tyrant in middle school! Why couldn't he live a peaceful high school life!? Why couldn't he just be happy!?"

"I'm sorry..." Forrest whispered.

Sarah once again punched Forrest, this time in the stomach. "Sorry won't heal his wounds! Sorry won't wake him up!"

Neither Forrest nor Robin could look Sarah in the eyes. They both knew that she was right.

@bepo_bestpolarbear also made a Terminally Ill Kingsley AU so I might do a one shot about that.

Chapter 11: Wake Up (Donald and Kingsley)

Chapter Text

Donald noticed that his office was much quieter, colder, and emptier. 'Where's Kingsley?' He frowned. 'He's always here on time. If he's running late, he'd text or call me,' He took out his phone and called Kingsley's phone. It went straight to voicemail. 'He's probably exhausted. He's been working hard this past couple days and I noticed that he was always tired. I'll let him rest for today. I can handle today's work by myself,'

Deep down, Donald felt that there was something wrong. If Kingsley needed a day off, why hadn't he called and told him? Donald wanted to go to Kingsley's apartment and check up on him, but thought that he would seem paranoid.

'He'll be back tomorrow,' He silently told himself. 'I'm overreacting. I've been so used to him that it just feels weird without him here,'

XXX

When Kingsley didn't show up to his office the next day, Donald immediately left and drove to Kingsley's apartment. He knocked on Kingsley's front door but received no response. Donald dialed Kingsley's number once again and heard the faint ringtone coming from inside the apartment. He took out the spare key Kingsley had given him and entered.

"Kingsley?" Donald called and made his way over to the bedroom.

"Kingsley?" Donald called and made his way over to the bedroom

Donald slowly reached for the door knob and found it unlocked. He found Kingsley lying in bed, his glasses slightly ajar and one of his arms hanging off the side of his bed. Both of his eyes were closed.

There was blood coming from Kingsley's mouth, but it was already dried and a darker shade than fresh blood, meaning that it wasn't recent

There was blood coming from Kingsley's mouth, but it was already dried and a darker shade than fresh blood, meaning that it wasn't recent.

"Come on, Kingsley

"Come on, Kingsley. You shouldn't be coughing up or vomiting blood. You need to get that checked out. I'll drive," He gently shook Kingsley's arm. 'Why is your skin so cold?'

Donald refused to believe that Kingsley was dead

Donald refused to believe that Kingsley was dead. He thought that Kingsley was just a heavy sleeper and shook Kingsley once more, this time rougher than before. "Wake up! Get up! Fucking listen to me, Kingsley!"

Kingsley still did not react nor did he respond.

'I shouldn't be crying! There's nothing to be sad about! Kingsley's not dead!' Donald tried to wake Kingsley up for a few more minutes

'I shouldn't be crying! There's nothing to be sad about! Kingsley's not dead!' Donald tried to wake Kingsley up for a few more minutes.

He shakily put a hand to Kingsley's wrist and felt no pulse.

"Why?" Donald's voice trembled and sounded nothing like the feared, confident, powerful leader of the Yeongdeungpo Union. "Why don't you have a pulse?"

I told them to stop hurting Grape, so they killed Kingsley instead.

Chapter 12: Rain (Forrest)

Chapter Text

Robin and Grape were frozen in place. It was as if they had been turned into stone. Now Myles Joo wouldn't normally interact with his former gang, but he was really curious as to what the hell was going on.

"Forrest told us that he has a girlfriend," Robin managed to say. "He can't hang out with us  after school today because he has a girlfriend,"

"WHAT THE FUCK!?" Myles exclaimed. "That's impossible! That girl's gotta be blind if she wants to date someone like Forrest!"

"She is blind," Robin said. "But she genuinely loves Forrest for who he is,"

"Ha! You expect me to believe that shit?" Myles laughed. "If she could see, she'd immediately break up with him,"

Both Robin and Grape knew that they couldn't defeat Myles, so they could only glare at him as he left.

XXX

Forrest loved his girlfriend, Rain. He loved her dearly with all his heart.

The two had met last year at the hospital. Forrest was getting his injuries from a fight checked out. Rain had gotten lost and bumped into Forrest. Forrest decided to help her get to her appointment. As a thank you, Rain treated Forrest to lunch at a nearby cafe. They two continued to meet up and eventually began to date.

Forrest knew he was not as popular of a school head as the other four. He knew that he was most likely considered the least attractive out of the five of them. Whenever he hung out with Robin and Grape, girls would flock around them. The ones who only flocked around him only wanted him for his money since they knew he was an executive of the Union. There were several posts on the Shuttle Patch forums mocking Forrest's appearance, some of them joking that Forrest was secretly a man in his thirties or forties.

But Rain...she loved Forrest for his personality. Since she was blind, she never saw Forrest's appearance.

But when Rain told him that she was going to get surgery to regain her sight...Forrest immediately broke up with her. He knew that once she saw how he looked like, she would be disappointed. Rather than being the one dumped, Forrest dumped her.

Forrest was used to people commenting on his looks and saying things like he looked old or he looked like he was always high on drugs since his eyes were bloodshot most of the time. He'd either beat them up or ignore them, depending on his mood.

But if Rain were to say those things...Forrest would actually feel hurt. And Forrest didn't want to be hurt. So he ended the relationship.

XXX

Rain was devastated and holed up in her room after being dumped. 'Why did he seem bothered when I told him I was getting surgery? Why wasn't he happy for me that I'm going to be able to see again? Why did he randomly dump me like that? Did he ever truly love me? Or did he only date me because he pitied me for being blind? I don't understand. I thought Forrest loved me. Was it all a lie?'

"I want answers," Rain wiped her tears away. "After my surgery, I'll go looking for him. He blocked my number so I won't be able to call him. I know he goes to Hyeongshin High School so I can search for him there. Even if we really are breaking up...I want to at least know why. I may not know how he looks like, but I clearly remember his voice,"

XXX

'I don't know who I should ask...' Rain thought as she stood nervously by the school's gates. 'How well known is Forrest anyway? If I ask anyone, will they even know who he is?'

"Are you Rain?" A boy that looked like he hadn't slept in ages approached her. "Are you here for Forrest?"

"Yeah," Rain nodded. 'He must be one of Forrest's friends,'

"My name's Grape," The boy introduced himself. "I'll take you to Forrest,"

Grape led Rain to the meeting room where Robin was lecturing Forrest. They didn't notice the door opening nor did they notice Grape and Rain's presence.

"Forrest, you dumped her without any explanation!?"

"We would've broken up either way," Forrest was laying down on a couch and eating a bucket of ice cream. "She'd find someone way better and way more handsome than me,"

"Forrest," Robin sighed. "She fell in love with you based on your personality, not your looks,"

"She'll be disappointed if she ever sees me," Forrest claimed. "She probably expected some kind of handsome Prince Charming,"

"You didn't care about your appearance much when other people insulted you," Robin reminded. "You just beat them up or ignored them,"

"Rain is different," Forrest claimed. "Her opinion is the only opinion that I actually care about. When she sees me, she'll know she can find someone better. That's why it was better ot just end things,"

"There's no one better than you," Rain finally made her presence known and walked over to Forrest.

Forrest's immediate reaction was to hide his face with his hands.

"Even if there were people 'better' than you," Rain gently moved Forrest's hands. "I love you,"

Forrest needs more love!

What's this? Finally a chapter of School Day Sorrows with a happy ending?

Chapter 13: Fallen Angel (Stephen)

Chapter Text

This AU is by @bepo_bestpolarbear on Instagram. It's basically a "What if Gray fell from the roof instead of Stephen and Stephen became colder" AU. They also drew this fanart for the AU.

Stephen fell to his knees by Gray's bedside

Stephen fell to his knees by Gray's bedside. His best friend...his dear sweet Gray...was comatose. Several of his bones had broken and he was on life support.

Stephen had been late to school. The one time he had been late, Oswald decided to target Gray. When Stephen reached the school gates...he witnessed Gray falling from the roof and landing on the concrete. Stephen rushed over to his friend's side and shakily cradled him to his chest. He let out a scream as an ambulance was called.

And now...Gray was in a coma. The doctors didn't know when he'd wake up, if he ever will.

'It's my fault...' Stephen sobbed. 'I failed to have all of their attention on me...so they ended up hurting Gray. I didn't want Gray to be dragged into this mess...'

"I'm sorry, Gray..."

'Where did it all go wrong!? Gray and I were just minding our own business! We weren't hurting anyone!'

Stephen's expression darkened when he recalled a certain boy whom he had reached out to when he had seen him eating all alone. 'Bryce Oh...this is all your fault! Oswald Yang pretty much ignored me and Gray. It wasn't until you starting spouting all those lies that he started causing problems for us!'

Stephen chuckled while his eyes had a manic gaze. "No good deed goes unpunished, right?"

XXX

The next day, Stephen came to school early. He waited for Oswald, Bryce, and that third member of their group (whose name didn't matter but he'll be dubbed Desmond Kang) to approach him. Once they were within range, Stephen stood up and swung his chair at Oswald.

Stephen Ahn was by no means weak. In fact, he was surprisingly quite strong. The only reason he didn't fight back when he was being bullied was because he had taken a vow of pacifism.

'Fuck pacifism!' Stephen thought as he beat the living shit out of his three opponents.

"S-Stephen stop!" One of his classmates put a hand to Stephen's shoulder. "You're going too far! He's gonna die!"

"Too far?" Stephen punched that classmate in the face. "These fuckers pushed my Gray off the roof!"

Everyone was startled by Stephen's rage. This boy who was beating the trio of bullies up was the same boy who constantly donated prize moneys of any competitions he won. He was the same boy who always put up posters and flyers resulting in people nicknaming him "Tapeman." He was the same boy who didn't fight back when he was being bullied.

Once Stephen was satisfied with his enemies' injuries, he glared at the rest of the class. "You think you fuckers are innocent? You think I didn't notice you bastards talking shit behind my and Gray's backs?" Only Jeremy Park was innocent, but he wasn't going to reveal that as to avoid Jeremy being targeted by the class. "If any of you pieces of shits cross paths with me...I'll kill you!"

XXX

Beep...Beep...

"Hey Gray," Stephen gently held his comatose friend's hand. "I got revenge. I sent those fuckers to the ER," He let out a dry laugh. "They must be terrified of me now,"

Beep....Beep....

"Even though I got revenge, I'm still angry. I'm angry at them, but also at myself. I wasn't able to protect you,"

Beep.....Beep.....

"I got blacklisted from all the high schools in the area. Mrs. Lee found me a high school that's willing to accept me. It's all the way in Yeongdeungpo though...so I don't want to go. I want to just drop out, but my mom is forcing me to continue school. She says a change in scenery would be good for me and I'd be far away from those bullies,"

Beep......Beep......

"But bullies exist everywhere in every school. If anyone comes after me...I'll no longer do nothing. I'll fight back,"

Beep.......Beep.......

"If you saw me now...would you still want to be my friend?"

Beep........Beep........

"The Stephen you know is kind and caring. I would brush off any insults. The Stephen you know is kind and caring,"

Beep.........Beep.........

"Would you still want to be my friend after finding out about what I did to those bastards? Do you think I went too far?"

Beep..........Beep..........

"I don't know when I'll be able to visit again since I'll be all the way in Yeongdeungpo,"

Beep...........Beep...........

"Wake up soon...Gray..." Stephen kissed Gray's forehead before leaving.

Stephen became colder and when he gets into a fight, he's much more brutal than Gray.

Chapter 14: Silence (Mokha)

Chapter Text

This chapter contains spoilers for Ch 152

"I'm sorry..."

"

"I'm sorry, Seongmok..."

Dongha Baek was crying. His crazy smile was not present on his face.

"I'm sorry!" Dongha hugged his best friend to his chest. "Stay with me, Seongmok! Stay with me!"

Dongha had been itching for a fight so he had gone across the Han River to fight with some Mapo kids. Naturally, Seongmok tagged along since they were the Mokha Duo.

It started off as a normal fight that Dongha had instigated. Their opponents had managed to land a hit. But it was that one hit that knocked Seongmok off balance. If it were on flat ground, he would have been perfectly fine. However...his head had hit the stairs.

"H-Hey, this guy's not moving!"

"Shit, there's a lot of blood!"

When he heard those words, Dongha immediately rushed over to Seongmok's side. While he was focused on his friend, their opponents took the chance to flee in fear of having accidentally killed someone.

Dongha knew he had to get Seongmok to the hospital immediately, but his legs wouldn't stand. So he called for an ambulance instead.

'I'm the one who wanted to pick a fight with someone!' Dongha thought as he sobbed. 'I should've been more aware! It's because of me! It's because of me! Seongmok's hurt because of me! This is just like last time! I was the one who suggested taking down Seongjin Cheon! After we beat him up, Seongmok was ambushed when he was alone!'

"Don't you fucking die on me, okay?" Dongha demanded, although his voice cracked and broke. "You said you wanted to fight against Ben Park, right? Once you finish getting treated, let's go hunt him down!"

'We've gotten hit a lot of times in the head, so he's gotta just be unconscious! We even survived a fight against Donald Na! Seongmok can't be taken down from falling on some stairs!'

Dongha was used to Seongmok being silent since his friend was mute. Even though he never spoke, Dongha easily understood him.

But now...the silence was dreadful.

It's canon that Dongha and Seongmok are actual friends instead of just fighting partners.

Chapter 15: Betrayal (Myles and Forrest)

Chapter Text

Inspired by @zk.sasi 's Myles X Forrest fanart on Instagram

Myles watched Forrest enter the meeting room for his first accounting conference with Donald. He lit a cigarette and turned to leave when the door shut.

'Forrest had betrayed me,' Myles thought bitterly as he inhaled the nicotine and left campus. He didn't feel like dealing with his classes today and took the shortest route home. 'The only one who had known about me making deals with Manwol was Forrest,'

The fact that Forrest became the new school head after his excommunication only further proved that he had been betrayed.

'He ratted me out to Donald!' Myles bit down on his cigarette. 'He betrayed me just so he could rise in power!'

Myles sprinted to his apartment and slammed the door shut. He grabbed the framed photo of him and Forrest and threw it angrily at the wall, leaving a small dent. He walked over to the fallen frame and began to smash it into tinier pieces. It'd be a pain in the ass to clean the glass shards up, but right now he needed to let out his anger.

"How could he do that to me!?" Myles took out his phone and deleted every single photo of him and Forrest together. He hesitated when he stopped at a photo of him and Forrest kissing and hugging each other on New Year's.

"It was a mistake to trust him!" Myles found himself crying and threw his phone across his bedroom. If his phone had broken, he'd worry about it later.

"He never loved me!" He reached into his closet and began to destroy the camo hoodie that Forrest had gifted him for his birthday. "He only saw me as a stepping stone for power!" The hoodie became a pile of shredded fabric. Myles had half a mind to set it on fire, but even in his rage and sorrow he was stable enough to not potentially destroy his own home.

"I let someone into my heart, and I ended up getting hurt..." He slumped to the floor. "Today would've been our one year anniversary too,"

'I was always there for him. Whenever he got hurt, I got revenge for him. I always took care of him and looked out for him. I was there for him in his darkest times,'

He recalled the night of his excommunication. 'Forrest probably enjoyed the show. He was probably internally smirking at my defeat! He was probably internally laughing at my misery!'

"Why?" Myles ran a hand through his short purple hair. "Why, Forrest? How could you do this to me? Did our relationship really mean nothing to you? Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me that you really did love me, even just a little. I don't want to have been the only one emotionally invested in this relationship!"

Myles slammed his fist against his wall. "I want you to be hurting too! If you had actually loved me, even just a little, you would be feeling at least some level of heartache! I don't want to be the only one hurting!"

Revenge. Myles needed to plan his revenge to distract his mind from his aching heart. He would get his revenge and make Forrest regret ever toying with his emotions.

We need more Myles fanfics. We need more Forrest fanfics. We need more Hyeongshin fanfics in general.

Chapter 16: Traitor (Donald and Kingsley)

Chapter Text

Donald staggered back as blood seeped through his shirt where a knife was lodged into his side. He had already had experience with fighting against opponents that used knives, but he had been caught off guard. He had been stabbed by the person he had least expected.

"W-Why?" Donald stared at Kingsley with shock, hurt, and confusion.

"My loyalty was never to you, Donald," Kingsley smirked. "Do you know how easy it was to manipulate you? How easy it was to gain your trust, convince you to form the Yeongdeungpo Union, and take down Manwol?"

The tone was so...condescending. Kingsley had never used that tone with Donald before. He was always respectful and friendly.

"You're not..." Donald backed away from the maroon haired teen. "You're not Kingsley..."

"I am Kingsley Kwan," He claimed. "It's just that I've been keeping an act up ever since I met you,"

Donald fell to his knees as tears fell down rapidly. "You can't be Kingsley...Kingsley would never betray me!"

"Pathetic," Kingsley scoffed. "The great Donald Na, the man most feared in all of Yeongdeungpo, brought to his knees and crying!"

"WHY!?" Donald demanded. "WHY DID YOU BETRAY ME!?"

Kingsley's evil grin widened even more. "I'm an executive of Cheongang,"

"Cheongang?" Donald whispered. "That's..."

"The gang that rules over Mapo," Kingsley took out a handkerchief and wiped the blood from his hands. "We wanted to take over Yeongdeungpo for a while now,"

"Kingsley!" One of the Union members who had been silently watching spoke up. "Aren't you Donald's friend!?"

"Friends?" Kingsley let out a manic laugh. "Jake, friends are nothing but burdens. What you need in life is money, power, and connections. Besides," He turned around to cross the Mapo Bridge. "Donald Na was never my friend. He was only a tool to me,"

Donald trusts Kingsley the most out of all his executives, so how would he react to Kingsley betraying him?

Chapter 17: Warm Hugs (Seongmok)

Chapter Text

Ever since he was a little kid, people avoided him. His large stature and the fact that his resting face was often mistaken for frowning as well as his inability to speak only caused the other elementary schoolers to fear him. So, he was always alone...until she transferred to his class.

Winter had such pale skin that it looked like porcelain that would break at the slightest pressure. Her hair was white like the snowy season she had been named after. Her eyes were the lightest shade of blue possible.

Seongmok thought that someone as pretty as her would be loved and adored by everyone. He thought that someone like himself would have no hopes of ever interacting with someone like her. He thought that he would only be able to see her from a distance.

But to his surprise and anger, it was the exact opposite. Winter was treated like an outcast. She was called names like ghost girl, Yuki-onna (Japanese yokai that translates to "Snow Woman"), zombie, and monster. Just like Seongmok, she was all alone.

Seongmok wanted to approach her, but he was afraid that she, like the others, would be scared of him. But he was once again surprised when Winter approached him during recess.

"Can I sit with you?" She asked in a meek voice.

Seongmok nodded.

The two sat in silence, neither speaking as they simply opted to watch the other students playing.

The two spent every recess and every lunch together. Sometimes they both sat in silence, but there were times when Winter actually spoke to Seongmok and Seongmok listened. As long as they were together, Seongmok was happy.

XXX

Life was unfair. Winter cried against Seongmok's chest on the last day of their final year of elementary school. She and her family were going to move, meaning that she wouldn't be able to attend the same middle school as Seongmok.

Seongmok didn't know what to do except to hug her. So he gently wrapped his arms around her and patted her back. He didn't want her to leave, but knew that she had no choice since it was her parents' decision.

Winter was upset and sad, but Seongmok's warm hugs were comforting.

XXX

When middle school began, Seongmok Do was once again all alone. Actually, his solitude didn't last long because apparently in Doshin Middle School, strength was everything. Even though he kept to himself, his muscular appearance caused bullies to target him and he fought back.

Fighting was exhilarating. The way people's bodies crumbled under his fists...the way scarlet blood stained his clothes...the way people screamed in pain...Seongmok enjoyed it all. But what he found most fun was when he was up against a strong opponent. It was more satisfying when the fights lasted longer and he could go at full strength.

During one fight, Seongmok was being overwhelmed. There were too many opponents and he was being overpowered. He thought he was going to surely lose when some another person joined the fight. Seongmok recognized him as one of his classmates: Dongha Baek.

That was the day the two formed the Mokha Duo. From that day forth, Seongmok Do would never be alone.

XXX

It was a month into their freshman year of high school when their class received a transfer student. Seongmok immediately recognized her as Winter. He wanted to approach her in hopes of her having remembered him, but class started.

During breaktime, most of the students in the class crowded around Winter and asking her various questions.

Dongha noticed that his friend was annoyed by the crowd and staring at Winter. He grinned mischievously. "You like her~"

Seongmok shook his head and shot Dongha an annoyed glare.

Dongha stood up and walked over to the crowd. "All of you, scram!"

Fearing the Mokha Duo, the crowd dispersed immediately. Winter let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you. Those people were being quite suffocating,"

"Wanna go on a date with my friend?" Dongha asked.

"I don't know who your friend is," Winter didn't know about the Mokha Duo. "But I'll have to decline since I intend to spend time with my childhood friend who I haven't seen in three years," She stood up and walked past Dongha and over to Seongmok. "Hi Seongmok!" She hugged the large man tightly. "It's been such a long time, my cute teddy bear!"

Seongmok smiled brightly and gave her a warm hug back.

Dongha's jaw dropped at the scene. "WHAT THE FUCK!?"

Another happy ending for a one-shot in School Day Sorrows. This time Seongmok gets a happy ending, having reunited with his childhood friend. The friendship between Winter and Seongmok is platonic.

Chapter 18: Undying Fealty (Kingsley)

Chapter Text

Kingsley's POV

It was exhausting doing the same routine over and over again. I would wake up, eat breakfast with Donald, work, eat lunch with Donald, continue working, eat dinner with Donald, watch some TV or movies with Donald, cuddle with Donald, and then go to sleep.

On some days, I went out to do some grocery shopping, but I hated going outside. That would mean leaving Donald home alone. I was fortunate enough to have a job that allowed me to work from home.

I hated keeping Donald locked up in our house, but I had to. If he were to step outside even for a brief moment, someone could see him. If anyone saw him, they'd report him and Donald would be killed on sight. They wouldn't kill him because he created the Union which was a high school criminal organization. We disbanded that when the virus broke out.

They would kill him because he was a zombie.

He had been bitten when we had been looking for supplies a few months ago. He had been completely zombified within the day. I should've ended him after he was no longer human anymore, but I couldn't bring myself to do that. I loved him. Whether he was a zombie or a human, he was my Donald Na.

I managed to gag him to prevent him from biting me and I covered his hands with mittens so he wouldn't scratch me. It was heartbreaking.

After a while, society had quickly recovered. There was no cure for zombification, so everyone simply exterminated any zombies they came across. Though the population had decreased, the city went back to normal with the occasional zombies being found and killed. I kept Donald hidden in our home, but if anyone were to ask, I would say that my boyfriend had died.

Over time, Donald became calmer and used to my presence. He wouldn't outright attack me as long as he wasn't hungry. He would be fine with eating mostly meat or any other part of an animal, but sometimes he wouldn't stop being aggressive until he tasted human flesh.

I may be a human, but I am a monster too. My hands are stained with blood, not from beating people up alongside Donald in the past, but from killing people to feed to Donald. He needed to feed on human flesh at least once a week.

Eventually, Donald became pretty docile. He and I could sit on the couch together for hours, watching TV. I wasn't sure if he was actually watching, but I liked to believe that he was. We'd also cuddle together in bed, my arms wrapped around his body. Even though his skin was cold to the touch like a lifeless corpse, I would pretend that he was still full of warmth. I would let him rest his head against my chest and I'd run a hand through his platinum blonde hair.

But everything was wearing me down. I forced myself to keep pretending that everything would be okay, that there'd eventually be a cure. But they were all lies. Nothing was going to be okay. There would never be a cure.

While Donald was in the living room, I had retreated to our bedroom and had finally broken down. I fell to my knees and sobbed. I wanted everything to go back to normal. I wanted everything to go back to when Donald and I ruled over Yeongdeungpo. Hell, even if he and I no longer controlled Yeongdeungpo, I just wanted Donald to be able to become human again.

Apparently I hadn't completely closed his door and had left it partially ajar. Donald staggered into the room and made his way over to me. He had managed to tear his gag off.

But I didn't move. At this point, I didn't care if Donald bit me. I didn't care if I also became a zombie.

But Donald didn't bite me. Instead, he hugged me from behind and rested his head on my shoulder, as if he were trying to comfort me.

Heavily inspired by My Daughter is a Zombie.

Chapter 19: 'Til Death Do Us Part (Kingsley and Donald)

Chapter Text

Sequel to Undying Fealty

"The zombie virus, which killed hundreds of thousands spread such at a rapid pace that the government had no choice but to try to contain it through drastic measures. Now that some time has passed since the outbreak, we've built up considerable knowledge about the virus. The antibodies discovered in the blood of Su-Ah Lee's late father, Jeonghwan Lee were instrumental for the development for the cure,"

"Therefore, from this day forth, the government has moved to repeal the Special Zombie Act. Anyone currently hiding a zombie is advised to contact the Disease Control Agency for further instructions. No charges will be files and we will cure all zombies of the virus. I'd like to extend my deepest condolences to all who were affected by the zombie virus, and to those we've lost,"

"A cure..." Kingsley's voice was shaky. "D-Donald...they said that there's a cure..."

Donald responded by silently resting his head on Kingsley's shoulder and gently grabbing Kingsley's hand. Donald no longer wore any gags or mittens to prevent him from biting and scratching, but he made no attempt to attack Kingsley.

"But..." Kingsley turned to his boyfriend. "What if it's all a lie? What if they're just saying that so they could get rid of all the zombies people are hiding? Donald, I don't want to lose you...but at the same time, if it is true...I want you to return to normal. I don't know what to do. Should I call them? Should I not call them?"

"Hnn," Donald mumbled and slightly tightened his hold on Kingsley's hand.

"I'll...take the risk," Kingsley said. "And if it turns out to be lies..."

XXX

The Disease Control Agency came within minutes of being contacted. "Where's the zombie?" The soldier asked.

"He's inside," Kingsley opened the door and led them to the living room. "Put your guns away. He won't attack,"

"We'll be the judge of that,"

"Donald?" Kingsley gently called.

Donald was hugging a bread pillow and watching TV. He looked up when he heard his name being called followed by a lot of footsteps. "Uh?"

"Donald, these guys are from the Disease Control Agency," Kingsley explained. "They'll...they'll take you to their lab and...and they'll turn you back into a human, okay?"

"Guragh..."

"Don't attack them, alright?" Kingsley said. "You're going to have to go with them,"

Donald stood up and staggered over to the soldiers.

The soldiers were caught off guard by how docile Donald was. They had heard of how Su-Ah Lee behaved when she was a zombie, but they had never witnessed that sort of behavior with their own eyes. All of the other zombies that had been reported were violent and immediately attacked anyone within range.

Donald followed the soldiers outside but stopped when he realized Kingsley wasn't following. He turned around to find him still standing at the doorway. "Ah?"

"I can't go with you," Kingsley shook his head.

Donald walked back over to Kingsley's side.

"Hey, what are you doing?" The soldiers demanded, getting impatient. "Let's go,"

"Donald, you need to go with them," Kingsley urged. "Once you're human again, we can live happily together forever,"

"Hurry up!" The soldiers started to get closer to the two.

Donald growled at them and protective stood in front of his boyfriend. "Not...with...out...Kings...ley..."

The soldiers were even more shocked. None of the zombies they had brought to the lab had been able to speak. "Kid, that zombie there wants you to come too so you're coming along,"

XXX

"How fascinating!" The scientist exclaimed. "This is the first time I have heard of a zombie speaking! Usually zombies like Su-Ah Lee are able to understand things, but not actually speak their own thoughts,"

Donald sat on the exam table, one hand holding Kingsley's and the other holding his bread pillow. His blood red eyes watched the scientist's every single move.

"Mr. Na," The scientist addressed. "Do you know where you are?"

Donald let out a typical zombie groan but nodded.

"Do you know today's date?"

Donald shook his head. "Days...blend...together..."

"Interesting..." The scientist jotted down some notes. "I think we'll be able to return him to human at a faster rate than the other zombies we have here. Mr. Na, are you willing to cooperate with us?"

Donald squeezed Kingsley's hand. "My...Kingsley...safe...stay...here..."

"Mr. Kwan will be safe and accommodations will be made so he can stay with you,"

Donald brought Kingsley into a hug and rested his chin on Kingsley's soft hair. "My...Kingsley..."

Kingsley's eyes began to water. "My Donald..."

XXX

Three months later, Donald was completely human with his zombie virus tests all coming back negative. He laid down in the lab's hospital bed, waiting to be discharged.

"Why?" Donald finally asked. "Kingsley, why didn't you shoot me after I turned? You should've given up on me. There was no hope for a cure at that time,"

"I didn't want to be alone..." Kingsley confessed as he cried. "I know you told me to kill you when you became infected...but I couldn't bring myself to do so. I didn't want to be alone in our home that was filled with all of our memories...All of my family members had been infected and killed. You were the only one I had left..."

Donald hugged him. "I know what it's like to be alone...so I can't get mad at you...but what if I hadn't begun to regain my senses? What if I had...if I had bitten you?"

"At least we'd have been together," Kingsley managed a small smile.

"Thank you..." Donald broke down. "Thank you for not giving up on me..."

Since there was no chance of infecting him, Donald finally kissed Kingsley.

Here's a happy ending to the Zombie Donald AU.

Chapter 20: Past Lives (Mokha)

Chapter Text

"Hey Dongha," Jake inquired. "How did you and Seongmok become friends? Aside from the fact that both of you love to fight, you two are very different. Seongmok's all quiet and serious while you're loud and chaotic,"

"How did we meet?" Dongha's insane grin turned into a small, gentle smile as he reminisced about the past. But it wasn't just any past, but his and Seongmok's previous life.

XXX

Centuries ago, as a child, Dongha Baek lived on the streets as a beggar. He stole and fought both for survival and for entertainment, resulting in him becoming infamous throughout his village. As he grew from a child to a teenager, Dongha didn't know what to do with his life. It's not like he could get an honest job in the village, not that he wanted one.

So, he left the village. He took a path through a forest and unfortunately, he encountered some bandits. He did his best to fight off the bandits, but they overpowered him. Just as they were about to kill Dongha, one of the bandits were beheaded.

Dongha watched as Prince Seongmok Do killed all of the bandits. Seongmok held his hand out to Dongha and helped him up.

"Thanks," Dongha then noticed something was off. "Where are your royal guards?"

Seongmok didn't answer. Judging from his expression, he obviously didn't want to talk about it.

"Hey," Dongha suggested. "It's lonely to travel by yourself. Wanna be my travel buddy?"

Seongmok nodded.

The two were together for years. Seongmok didn't mind Dongha's violent nature and actually enjoyed fighting alongside him.

Dongha eventually found out the reason why Seongmok had no so much freedom compared to other royals: the royal family deemed Seongmok's muteness to be too big of a flaw and unworthy of having claim to the throne.

Dongha thought that it was a stupid reason and decided that it was the royal family's lost.

Tragedy struck when Seongmok was ambushed when alone. He was stabbed in the stomach and left in a burning building to die. When Dongha found out, he didn't even hesitate to rush inside.

"The wound's too deep," Dongha teared up when he saw Seongmok's wound. "Y-You...You lost so much blood...But it'll be fine, Seongmok!"

Seongmok shook his head and tried to push Dongha away. He wanted Dongha to save himself.

"I'm not leaving you," Dongha refused. "If you die...I'll die with you,"

Seongmok shook his head and once again tried to push him to leave.

"I won't leave you here," Dongha repeated as he sat down beside Seongmok and interlocked their fingers. "We're the Mokha Duo. It won't be the same without you,"

XXX

"Are you having one of those long anime flashback?" Jake's voice snapped Dongha back to the present. "You've been staring off into space for the last fifteen minutes,"

"Seongmok and I go way back," Dongha vaguely answered Jake's previous question.

After being reincarnated, Dongha reunited with Seongmok in middle school. He was devastated to learn that Seongmok hadn't retained any of  his past life's memory, but was grateful that the universe at least let them be together again.

Dongha didn't regret dying all those years ago. He would give up his life for Seongmok without hesitation. If Seongmok dies, then he'd die with him.

Will Seongmok ever remember?

Chapter 21: Pained Love (Wolf and Beomsu)

Chapter Text

Beomsu is the name of one of Wolf's henchmen. His name was revealed in Season 3.

"How are your wounds?" Wolf asked when he arrived at his boyfriend's apartment

"How are your wounds?" Wolf asked when he arrived at his boyfriend's apartment.

"Oh," Beomsu looked up from the TV. "I finished treating them,"

Wolf sat down beside him on the couch and gently caressed Beomsu's face, being extra careful when touching the bandages. "I'm sorry. I did my best to hold back my strength without it being too obvious,"

"It's fine!" Beomsu quickly told him. "Wolf, I'm fine,"

"I hate doing this," Wolf growled. "I hate having to pretend that you're just a mere henchman! I hate having to hurt you to convince everyone that you're meaningless to me!"

"Wolf—"

"I like hurting people. I like seeing them cry and beg for mercy," Wolf admitted. "But I hate hurting you, Beomsu. I don't want to continue this act!"

Beomsu gently held Wolf's hands in his. "Wolf...I'm afraid of what people will do to me if they find out,"

"If they insult you or try to hurt you, I'll beat them to death!" Wolf claimed.

"What about when you're not around?" Beomsu quietly brought up. "Wolf, you can't stay by my side twenty four-seven. What if they attack me when I'm alone? I'm afraid, Wolf. I'm not as strong as you are,"

"But you're still getting hurt because of me," Wolf pointed out. "You told me to treat you like any other lackey. You told me to hit you like I would with them. You told me to insult you and berate you,"

Beomsu put on a pained smile. "At least I know you're holding back your strength. If it were anyone else, they wouldn't hesitate to use their full power on me and wouldn't care if I ended up in the hospital,"

"Beomsu..."

"Hey," Beomsu suggested. "How about you kiss my injuries better?"

Wolf knew that there wasn't anything he could do to change his boyfriend's mind. Beomsu could be stubborn when he wanted to be.

Chapter 22: Caught (Wolf and Beomsu)

Sequel to Pained Love (Wolf and Beomsu)

Cheolsu is the name I decided to give Beomsu's friend.

Wolf kissed Beomsu, gently pushing him against the wall. Normally Wolf would wait until they reached Beomsu's apartment, but the sight of Beomsu's wounds, the wounds he caused, made him feel guilty. He planted several kisses along Beomsu's bruised skin.

"W-Wolf—"

"No one's in here but us," Wolf reassured his boyfriend.

Beomsu turned Wolf's head towards the entrance. The door was completely open and Hwangmo and Hayden were staring at them with wide eyes.

"Uh..." Hwangmo wasn't sure how to react to this situation.

"I knew it!" Hayden blurted out loud. "I told Cheolsu that Beomsu was into Wolf!"

"Wait, what?" Beomsu blushed red. "What do you mean you told Cheolsu that I liked Wolf!?"

"It was so obvious," Hayden rolled his eyes. "I just didn't say anything because I thought you had some kind of pain kink," He saw Cheolsu down the hallway. "Hey Cheolsu, you owe me twenty thousand won!"

"What!?" Cheolsu rushed over to the student council room and saw Wolf and Beomsu, both still frozen in that same position. "You traitor! How could you be dating someone and not tell me!? I thought we would be single bros forever! First Hwangmo, then Hayden, and now you? Who's next, Jared? Is he going to start dating while I'll be forever alone!?"

Cheolsu's rant snapped Wolf out of his daze. "What do you mean Hwangmo and Hayden are dating someone?"

"Naksung Fam is literally Hwangmo's harem!" Cheolsu revealed. "Hayden's dating Scorpion! Those two literally planned out their future together and are planning on adopting a daughter after their military service is over!"

Wolf finally completely regained his senses. "All of you, get out,"

Hearing Wolf's threatening tone, everyone slammed the door shut and scrambled away in fear.

Once he was sure that they were alone, Wolf sighed and hugged Beomsu. "Sorry Beo, I thought that I was being careful enough. I didn't mean to expose our relationship like this since you weren't ready yet,"

"It's okay," Beomsu led Wolf over to the couch and began to pet his boyfriend's hair. "Our relationship was bound to be found out sooner or later. It's like they always say: only one truth will prevail,"

Wolf chuckled. "Normally I'd hate it if someone were to start cringily quoting anime like Jake, but since it's you, it's acceptable,"

"How about we skip the rest of school today and just head on back to my apartment?" Beomsu suggested. "We can watch a movie and cuddle up on the sofa while munching on some popcorn,"

"Sounds way better than staying in this dingy room,"

I blame the Cult of the Cursed for Hwangmo's Harem and Scorden.

Chapter 23: Brothers of Evil

Chapter Text

Once upon a time, there lived two brothers. The older of the two, Kenny Ji was the crowned prince of the Kingdom of Manwol. But when Jake Ji, the younger of the two princes, was four years old, he showed signs of already surpassing seven year old Kenny. People began to favor Jake being the heir instead of Kenny.

Jake didn't want there to be any conflict for the crown. He requested to leave the royal family and to be adopted by one of the guards. Queen Ji agreed and told the Kenny, public, and the rest of the staff that Prince Jake Ji had been assassinated.

Jake took on the new name Hakho Kwan and became the adopted brother of Dean Kwan. Although he no longer had the luxuries of the palace and he missed his older brother dearly, Hakho lived a happy life with his new family.

XXX

Seven years later, when Kenny was fourteen years old, the queen passed away and he became the new king. Unfortunately, the royal advisor, Changyeon Lee, began to corrupt him.

Eleven year old Hakho wanted to reunite with his brother now that he was officially king, so Mr. Kwan  trained him. He taught him swordsmanship, horseback riding, and other skills that would be beneficial to him when he returned to the palace.

Sadly, Kenny had long forgotten about his little brother. Hakho would be unable to return as Prince Jake Ji and instead would become the loyal servant Hakho Kwan.

XXX

Three years later, Hakho Kwan became part of the royal staff at fourteen years old. Nobody suspected him to related to the king because he had grown his hair out and had dyed his hair black to match Dean's.

Hakho was disgusted by the seventeen year old's current personality. But still...Hakho believed that his kind older brother was somewhere in there and chose to remain by Kenny's side.

Kenny ordered Hakho to perform many villainous deeds and Hakho obeyed, no matter how horrifying the task was. His hands became stained with the blood of many innocent civilians.

XXX

Two years later, Hakho killed Mr. Kwan. The latter had been planning a rebellion and although Hakho loved his adopted father, he loved his older brother more.

Dean was devastated when the news was delivered to him. Knowing how notorious Kenny's reputation was and how he no longer received any letters from his brother, Dean also thought that Hakho had also been murdered.

With tears in his fiery eyes, Dean vowed to achieve his father's goal and lead the rebellion to overthrow and publicly execute the tyrant.

XXX

Kenny had fallen in love with the princess of another kingdom, Cassandra Na of Yeo-Il. However, Cassandra did not reciprocate the feelings and was in love with Changhui Han, Prince of Cheongang.

Assassination were sent to kill Changhui but he easily fought them all off. Kenny redirected his rage to Cassandra for rejecting him and ordered Hakho to assassinate her, who sadly succeeded.

Cassandra's younger brother, Donald Na, was pissed off. He wanted revenge.

XXX

A year passed and the rebel army, consisting of angry Manwol citizens as well as soldiers from Cheongang and Yeo-Il, launched their coup d'état.

Changyeon and the rest of the staff had abandoned Kenny. Now, it was only him and Hakho.

"Kenny," Hakho called as he entered the room.

"Why the fuck are you wearing my clothes!?" Kenny demanded.

"Put these on and escape through the passageway near the fireplace," Hakho shoved a set of his own servant clothes and a cloak to him.

"Your hair..." Kenny now noticed that Hakho had cut his hair short to become identical to Kenny's. "And your face..." Now that he was staring at Hakho for more than a few seconds, he could see the resemblance. "W-Why do you look like me!?"

"My name is Jake Ji," He revealed. "I'm your younger brother,"

"My..." Kenny fell to his knees as he finally remembered his early childhood. "My little brother...Jake?"

"Hurry up and change!" Jake ordered. "I'll hold them off!"

"Jake I—"

"GO!"

XXX

Kenny Ji had successfully escaped and Jake Ji had been captured, having fooled everyone into believing that he was the king. He was set to be executed at the end of the week.

Kenny wanted to help his little brother, but there was nothing he could do. He was all alone. Changyeon had abandoned him. He couldn't ask anyone else for help because the entire kingdom wanted him dead.

'I'm sorry, Jake...'

XXX

As the people celebrated the success of the coup, Dean decided to pay a visit to the imprisoned "king." "Even now, you still don't feel any remorse, do you?"

Jake's eye remained glued to the ground.

"You murdered my father and my brother!" Dean snapped.

"So what?"

Dean's eyes widened. Even though Jake had tried to mimic Kenny's voice, Dean had grown up with him and immediately recognized it. "Hakho!? W-Why are you here!? Did Kenny—"

"It was my plan, not his," Jake revealed. "I ordered him to run away while I took his place,"

"WHY!?" Dean slammed his fist against the cell bars. "Why would you do something so stupid!?" He hurriedly opened the cell. "Run away! You shouldn't pay for Kenny's crimes!"

"I was the one who murdered your father," Jake told him coldly. 'I want you to hate me. Don't try to help me escape execution. That way, when I die, people will believe that the king has been executed and Kenny will be safe,'

"Jake...this isn't like you," Dean said. "That bastard Kenny brainwashed you!"

"This is all my own free will," Jake claimed. "I'll do whatever it takes to protect my family,"

Those words stung Dean. "Protect your family? Were those years you spent with my and my father meaningless? Were we not your family!?"

"No," Jake lied. "You and your father were never my family,"

XXX

It was the day of the king's execution. Kenny shoved his way through the crowd and to the front. He made eye contact with Jake as he was placed in the guillotine.

'Keep on living, Kenny,' Jake smiled his brightest smile as the blade came down.

The citizens' cheers of joy drowned out Kenny's tears of regret.

Chapter 24: Zombie Apocalypse (Dawnverse)

Chapter Text

I've always wanted to write a Zombie Apocalypse AU fanfic since 2015 but could never really figure out how to do it.
So, instead, here's a one-shot in the Sorrowverse of what would happen if the zombie apocalypse happened in the Dawnverse.

How many of them had made it?

How many of them had they lost?

Orion scanned the sea of faces within the group and he could visibly see that there was definitely less people than what they had started with. He silently took roll in his head.

The people that were missing were many, including Gray, Stephen, Eugene, Timothy, Doyoon...

"Where's Dawn?" Orion's question had been whispered, but it mind as well have been shouted throughout the entire empty school cafeteria.

Everyone immediately began looking around for any signs of her.

"Dad..." Donald's voice cracked, trembling with fear and worry. "Where's my little sister?"

Orion placed his hands on Donald's shoulders. "I'll go out and find her. She must still be nearby,"

"You're not seriously thinking of going out there!" Janghyeok exclaimed.

"MY DAUGHTER IS STILL OUT THERE, JANGHYEOK!" Orion screamed. "Not only Dawn, but so many others are also still out there!

"Do you know how many zombies are right outside that door?" Janghyeok pointed out. "You'll immediately be swarmed!"

"Then am I supposed to give up on them!?" Orion demanded.

"No," Janghyeok shook his head. "You take a deep breath, calm down, and think of a plan,"

"But—"

"I know that time is of essence, but if you rush in without a plan you'll immediately get yourself infected before you can even reach any of your kids,"

"Dad," Donald's entire body was trembling. "Uncle Janghyeok's right..." He leaned against Kingsley for support, feeling as if his legs would give out any second.

Donald only ever called Janghyeok "Uncle" when he was terrified.

XXX

Half an hour later, everyone froze upon hearing movement coming from the kitchen. "Fuck!" They had forgotten to lock the kitchen's doors.

"We brought food," Gray's voice allowed the survivors to let out a sigh of relief.

He, Dawn, and Stephen came out of the kitchen with plastic bags and backpacks filled with supplies. But...all three of them looked like fully turned zombies.

"G-Gray?" Sophia called to her son nervously. "Is that you?"

"Yes Mom, it's me," Gray nodded. "You're all understandably startled by our appearances. Yes, we were turned into zombies. No, we won't attack you guys,"

"Donuts," Dawn groaned, taking out a donut and biting into it. She then hugged her giant walrus plushy tightly. "Hyunjin IV,"

"Dawn, Stephen, and I seem to be...atypical zombies," Gray explained. "I am disgusted by the idea of biting humans and retain most of my intellect and humanity. Stephen would rather hug me than attack humans. Dawn would rather eat desserts and hug her plushy instead of attacking humans,"

Dawn walked up to Forrest and leaned her forehead against his chest. "Forrest..."

"D-Dawn..." Forrest teared up and hugged his girlfriend. "I'm so sorry! I-I thought that you were right behind me! I should've held your hand and never let go!"

"It's okay," Dawn hugged him back. "Not your fault,"

XXX

Janghyeok and Orion were discussing things away from the rest of the group. "There's hope for a cure," Janghyeok said. "But I'm worried about those three,"

"Me too," Orion nodded grimly. "We both know that the government and military will either kill them on sight or take them into custody. If they're taken into custody...they'll be experimented on. They'll be tortured,"

"We can't let them be taken away,"

"We won't let them be taken away,"

Stephen is unable to speak at all and just makes zombie sounds while hugging or leaning against Gray. Dawn can talk but slower and a bit slurred. Gray is exactly the same as he was as a human except slightly more physically fit.

Chapter 25: Bone Cheetah (Gijoo)

Chapter Text

Gijoo Seol of Universe S-00123 stood in his lab. He had just finished dragging in a subject that could potentially help him achieve his goals.

A sentient cheetah skeleton was tied down to the exam table. Despite being only a skeleton with no muscles or organs, Bone Cheetah was alive and well...for now.

Gijoo wanted to figure out the key to Bone Cheetah's life. He needed to learn how to use it to resurrect the Jake Ji of his universe. Maybe then, Kenny would forgive him. Maybe then, things could go back to normal and he could stop his foolish journey to finding the Core Universe.

Bone Cheetah howled in pain as Gijoo began to experiment on him. He chipped off pieces of bone and broke off some larger chunks. Bone Cheetah thrashed around but his restraints limited his movements.

For many days and many nights, Gijoo tortured Bone Cheetah. Unfortunately, his experiments didn't yield any useful results and he finally put the poor boy out of his misery.

"FUCK!" Gijoo smashed Bone Cheetah's now lifeless corpse to pieces in a fit of rage. "I WANT MY HAPPILY EVER AFTER! I WANT MY HAPPY ENDING!"

'Why can't time travel be used in my universe!? Why can it be used in some universes, but not all!? It's not fair! I need to revive Jake so Kenny will finally forgive me!'

Gijoo fell to his knees and sobbed. "I didn't mean to kill Jake. It was an accident. So why won't the universe, why won't the multiverse, help me fix things?"

Bone Cheetah is a character from the Webtoon The Truth Seeker by ZK. Sasi

Gijoo Seol from Universe S-00123 is the same Gijoo that attempted to kill FanCornverse Myles, Forrest, Robin, and Sam.

Chapter 26: Ghost Eyes Part I (Gray and Donald)

Chapter Text

Ever since he could remember, Gray Yeon could see ghosts. When he was younger, he didn't initially realize that they were the spirits of people who had passed away or were comatose. He only realized that he could see things no one else could see when his classmates began to call him weird for talking to himself often.

Gray ignored all of the weird stares he'd get and the insults that were thrown at him. He didn't care that no kids his age wanted to be his friend. Gray preferred the company of ghosts. Many of them talked to him and told them stories about their lives. They taught him about topics that they knew of and helped to expand Gray's knowledge.

Gray's mother was a nurse at Gangnam General Hospital. Her son often tagged along with her to the hospital and would stay in the lobby where he would talk with the ghosts roaming the hospital. She worried about him not socializing with other kids his age, but she knew she couldn't force him to make any friends.

Gray was twelve years old when he noticed a distressed woman pacing around the lobby and constantly glancing at the entrance. Curious, he got up and approached her. "Are you alright?"

The woman stared at him with wide eyes. "Y-You can see me?"

"Yes," Gray nodded. "Are you waiting for someone?"

"My son," Sua answered. "He should've been here by now. I've passed away three almost four hours ago. The nurses called his homeroom teacher and informed him of my death. The teacher should've passed the message onto Donald and he would've immediately came to the hospital The bus ride here is a little over an hour so he should've been here by now,"

"What school does he attend?" Gray inquired.

"Yeowon Elementary School," Sua informed. "I-It's in Yeongdeungpo,"

Gray took out his phone and searched up bus routes. He left the hospital with Sua floating after him. During the bus ride, Sua introduced herself to Gray. She told him about how she had died due to an illness and had been on life support for a while, although she was grateful that her poor health allowed her son to be eligible for the Work-Study program and be funded until the end of high school.

She told him about her son, a boy Gray's age named Donald Na. To help Gray better identify him, Sua described him as a pale boy with red eyes and platinum blonde hair. She also sheepishly added that her son's clothes would be in a rougher shape compared to his peers, so he should be easy to locate.

XXX

When they arrived at Yeowon, school hadn't finished for the day. Gray decided to wait near the front gate and crouched down, leaning his back against the brick wall.

"Little boy," Sua questioned. "Why aren't you in school at this time?"

"My name is Gray Yeon," Gray told her. "My school let out early today due to some students accidentally setting some bushes on fire while smoking,"

It didn't take too long for the school day to end. Gray watched each student exit the front gate. The students ignored him. The school didn't have any uniforms, just a jacket that had to be worn occasionally, so they most likely mistook him as another student.

"Over there!" Sua pointed at her son who had fresh bruises from being beaten up by Seungjae and his gang. She became upset when she saw Seungjae shoving him to the ground as he passed by him. Donald hadn't told her about being bullied.

"Donald Na?" Gray approached the boy.

"Who are you?" Donald didn't recognize him as one of his classmates.

"My name is Gray Yeon," Gray answered. "I'm here to inform you that your mother has passed away earlier today,"

"Is this some kind of sick joke?" Donald glared at him. "Did Seungjae put you up to this?"

"No, this is not a joke," Gray shook his head. "The nurses informed your homeroom teacher not long after she had passed away. He was supposed to inform you of her passing,"

"Mr. Jeong didn't tell me anything," Donald narrowed his eyes. He tried to think of a reason why his homeroom teacher would withhold such important information until he remembered that the retest would be in two days. He knew his teacher treated him unfairly compared to the other students, but he didn't think he'd stoop this low as to use his mother's death to make him fail the retest!

Donald didn't know if Gray was telling the truth or not, but he needed to go to the hospital. Gray followed him to the bus stop since he also needed to return to the hospital where his mother was working. Sua, in her ghostly form, did her best to hug Donald even though her son would be unable to feel her.

"If what you're saying is true," Donald asked as they waited for the bus. "How did you know that I was her son? How did you know where to find me?"

"I can see ghosts,"

Donald hadn't expected that answer. "If you saw her ghost...where is she right now? Is she bound to the hospital?"

"No, she's hugging you right now," Gray answered. "Do you want me to repeat something that she would only know?"

Donald nodded. Sua recited an originally lullaby that she had always sung to Donald in the past. Gray parroted the lyrics exactly word for word. Donald finally believed him. They silently rode the bus to Gangnam General Hospital.

XXX

Donald sobbed once he saw his mother's corpse in the morgue. Her body was cold, already drained of her warmth. Sua wished that her son could feel her comforting hug. Gray knelt down and brought Donald into a warm embrace.

Mom Yeon was surprised to see her son with a boy his age. She was even more shocked when she saw him comforting the child. She recognized Donald as the son of the recently deceased Sua Lee. She hated to make the poor boy feel even worse, but she informed him of his stepfather running off with the life insurance money and the decision to put Sua down as having no other relatives in order for all the cremation paperwork to be taken care of.

Donald and Gray made their way to the crematorium. Donald sobbed in the hallway and hugged his mother's photo as Sua was cremated. Gray stayed by his side, only leaving to get them some snacks and drinks after Donald's stomach growled loudly. Gray acted as a messenger to relay anything Sua wanted to say to Donald.

After several hours, Sua's urn was placed in a niche in the columbarium. Donald broke down again upon seeing it. It was late at night so they were pretty much the only ones there. Mom Yeon dropped by after she had finished her shift.

"I'm worried about him," Sua said. "I don't want him to go home by himself,"

Gray silently offered Donald a hand to help him up. He held Donald's hand tightly as they got into Mom Yeon's car. Donald didn't question anything as he was taken to their house and Gray brought out a futon for Donald to use.

"Can..." Donald quietly requested. "Can you sing my mom's lullaby?"

"I haven't sang before," Gray said.

"It's fine," Donald told him. "I-It doesn't have to be perfect. I j-just want to hear her lullaby,"

Sua began to sing and Gray did his best to copy her. Donald was emotionally drained but he found comfort in his mother's lullaby, even if he wasn't hearing her sing it.

XXX

The entire day the next day, Donald stayed with Gray. Gray didn't mind being a messenger between Sua and Donald. Mom Yeon allowed Gray to skip school to stay home with Donald. She cooked a big breakfast and had left some food in the refrigerator for their lunch.

"I'm going to go to school tomorrow," Donald said.

"Are you sure?" Gray asked. "You can take as much time as you need to mourn,"

"They falsely accused me of cheating," Donald said. "And my homeroom teacher wants me to fail the retest. What's a better 'fuck you' to them than scoring a hundred percent on the retest?"

"Language," Sua scolded her son.

"After I ace the test, I'll have to figure out where I'm going to stay from now on," Donald said. "The money from the Work-Study Program isn't enough to pay all the bills,"

"You can stay here," Gray suggested. "Mom would be fine with it,"

"Really?" Donald really did want to stay. Gray was the only one who could see and hear Sua and the only one who could relay her messages to him.

"Yes," Gray nodded. "Although you might need to change elementary schools since Yeowon is quite far,"

"I wouldn't mind enrolling into the same elementary school as you," Donald said. "I just need to finish the retest tomorrow. Then I have no reason to stay at Yeowon anymore,"

XXX

The next day, Mom Yeon dropped Donald off to school. Gray had given Donald some spare clothes to wear so he did get a few weird stares from his classmates since his attire was in much better condition than they usually were.

"Donald Na, come out to the hallway," Mr. Jeong ordered right before the retest.

"What's the issue?" Donald asked with a cold voice.

"Your mom has passed away. Although, you still need to finish the test. You can go right after you finish it," He was shocked and confused when his words were met with a piercing glare full of rage.

"She passed away two days ago," Donald pointed out. "Fucking pathetic of you to try to use her death to make me fail the retest," He stormed back into the classroom and sat down.

There was nothing that Mr. Jeong could do. The exam for the advanced class was graded by another teacher. Donald received a perfect score. Of course, Seungjae and his bitchy mother still accused Donald of cheating.

"How could I have cheated?" Donald scoffed. "I took the retest with everyone else. I haven't been in the teachers' room at all so there is no way I could've seen the questions beforehand. You just can't accept that I'm smarter than your son,"

"You're just a beggar!" Seungjae's bitchy mother slapped Donald. "How dare you claim to be smarter than my son!"

Suddenly, the door was slammed open and Mom Yeon slapped Seungjae's bitchy mother across the face. "How dare you hit him!"

"Your mother told me that she felt like something bad was going to happen so I brought my mother here," Gray told Donald.

"This child is now under my care and I will not allow him to stay in a school that discriminates against him based on his background!" Mom Yeon shouted.

XXX

"We finished clearing out the guest bedroom for you," Gray told Donald. "It was originally just being used as storage since we never really had guests stay overnight,"

"Is it really okay for me to stay here?" Donald asked Mom Yeon. He still couldn't believe how these strangers were showing him so much kindness.

"Of course you can," Mom Yeon smiled. "I've already started filling out paperwork to adopt you. I know I'll never be able to replace your mother, but you can refer to me as 'Auntie' if you're comfortable with it,"

Sua was happy. Although she wouldn't be able to speak directly to Donald ever again, she would always be watching over him. She was happy that Donald wasn't going to be alone and instead he found two people willing to accept him into their family.

The second part is going to be Gray and Stephen's Ghost.

Chapter 27: Too Late (Hyunjin)

Chapter Text

Hyunjin sprinted into Dorim Shopping Complex and down the stairs. He saw a large, metal ceiling beam about to fall as he entered the basement. Gerard was laying still on the floor, surrounded by flames. Hyunjin tried to catch the ceiling beam before it could fall onto Gerard's head but...he had been just a millisecond too late.

"GERARD JIN!" Hyunjin screamed as he tried to push the ceiling beam off. "WAKE UP! WAKE UP MOTHERFUCKER! GET UP!"

Pained tears quickly evaporated. His hands burned and ached against the scalding metal, but he couldn't give up. He had to save Gerard. He had to save his friend.

XXX

'I'm in a hospital?' Hyunjin sat up and looked around at his surroundings. 'I must've passed out from smoke inhalation,'

"Hyunjin..." Sangman and Jinwoo stood by his side with solemn expressions.

"Why are you both here?" Hyunjin asked. "One of you should be with Gerard,"

Both of them were silent.

Hyunjin noticed both of his hands were wrapped in bandages. "Oh, you were worried about me too? I'm fine. Gerard's definitely got worse wounds than me,"

"Hyunjin..."

"Let's all go and visit him," Hyunjin tried to get out of bed.

Sangman placed a hand on his shoulder to stop him. "Hyunjin...Gerard's..."

"Oh, is he still in the operating room? When will he be done? I hope he gets out soon. I need to scold him for running into a burning building,"

"Gerard's dead," Jinwoo managed to tell him. "Hyunjin...Gerard's dead..."

"Huh?" Hyunjin stared at them with confusion. "What are you talking about? N-Now's not the time to joke around,"

"Hyunjin, it's the truth," Sangman said. "The ceiling beam...crushed Gerard's skull...There was nothing that could be done to save him,"

"You're joking. Gerard's just playing a prank on me," The ever so calm and stoic Hyunjin Cha began to cry. "There's no way that idiot's dead! He's gotten hit in the head loads of time! He's fine!" His lips quivered and his voice cracked. "The last thing I said to him...was that he was on his own...All he wanted...was to desperately perform as a band together..."

Hyunjin never got to mend things with Gerard.
