Chapter Text
"Nino, I asked you to do the dishes. Is that so hard?!" Jun asked with a huff as he stalked into the living room where Nino was laying on the sofa, a handheld game console in his hand, smashing the buttons without really looking at the screen as his eyes wandered over to Jun.
He sat up with pursed lips and overly innocent eyes. "I am doing the dishes," he said.
Jun glared at him before his eyes wandered to the kitchen, and indeed through the door, he could see the dishes dancing in the air, together with a wet towel as they cleaned themselves. He massaged his nose with his thumb and index finger as he counted slowly to ten, reminding himself to breath as to not yell. "Can you do stuff normally for once? Aren't there… I don't know any regulations?" he grumbled as he pushed Nino's feet from the sofa and fell beside him. "It's annoying to come in a room and see stuff flying around."
Nino snorted and shrugged as he moved on the sofa to now lean against Jun and swung his legs over the side of the couch. "I can do whatever I want in my private time," he said. "As long as I don't disturb others or hurt someone."
"It gets on my nerves. I'm sure it is hurting me somewhere," Jun grumbled. It wasn't very pleasant, really. It was mainly because it still freaked him out, and he still was sure that nothing was really clean if Nino did not check the dishes over! Or that the floors were just a tad too wet if he cleaned by magic. It was all in his imagination, he knew, but still!
"Aww, poor Jun-pon," Nino said, clearly teasing.
"You're paying if one of them has a crack in it," Jun warned.
"Fat chance. I know what I am doing."
"You're not even concentrating or looking at it!" Jun declared, and Nino smirked before he started to laugh.
"You're cute, you know," he teased, giggling when with a huff, Jun jumped to his feet, causing Nino to fall on his back as he glared at him.
"I'm not!"
"Sure, sure. See all done," Nino changed the topic suddenly, getting up again in a catlike manner and walking over to the kitchen.
Indeed all their dishes were done and currently drying on the drying rack. Nino hummed as he picked up his wand from the side of the sink, making Jun again wonder if that was even allowed. Could wizards leave those around and not be watchful? But he had gotten used to finding the wand in the strangest places in the last few years he had lived with Nino.
He knew he should have gotten used to him using magic as well, but that was different. Normally wizards didn't do it so openly as Nino did. At least not around him! Nino dutifully checked the cleaned dishes, which Jun knew was just for show for him and then nodded as he tapped the wand against the counter and with a little enchantment, the dishes flew, as their cupboards opened and everything sorted itself in.
Nino smirked at Jun when the other winced as a glass flew closely by his head to stand on the table and fill itself with water.
"Your room temperated water Jun-pon. Drink something you are pale around your nose. Something got to you?"
Jun rolled his eyes as Nino settled down beside him and drank from a bottle of iced tea he had pulled out of their fridge.
"Bad news?" Nino asked after all the doors were closed, and there was once again silence. Jun's shoulders slumped, and he shrugged.
"No news," he answered instead with a grimace. He had tried out for a new role for his hopefully soon blooming acting career, but nothing so far, and his part-time job had not brought enough money this month for him to feel comfortable with thinking about it.
"That sucks. I'm sure they'll call you back, and until then, I can pay your part of the rent as well," he said with a smile, and Jun nodded the silent thanks lost in the space between them. He knew Nino understood even without him saying so.
Jun smiled as he remembered how they met. Nino had to attend a term in high school. An obligation for wizards to mingle with others, and Nino had hated it. Wizards, in general, were normal in their world. They lived more or less openly, and there were many rules on them to make sure that they wouldn't exploit non-magic users, and most students around them had been wary of Nino.
Jun had thought that Nino was a skinny kid with the yellow knitted sweater he had favoured over the jacket and tie combination. The sleeves had always seemed too long, and with his longer hair than was the standard in his school Jun was sure that some people had thought of him as a girl.
The different colour had already told the whole school that he was not the same as them, but even without, Jun was sure that Nino's aura and his golden eyes were proof enough. Back then, Nino had not used his magic. He had not been allowed to get used to doing things their way. Jun remembered how others had made fun of the boy when he hadn't known how things went or when he had struggled with the easiest tasks.
He had always been silent, though, not complaining, not leashing out or anything. He just let them do whatever they wanted.
"What is going on in your head?"
"Just remembering?"
"I'm sure I wouldn't like to know," Nino said with a frown, and Jun chuckled.
"No, probably not," he agreed with a hum, his mind going back again to the point where he had befriended Nino. He had not teased him, but it had taken time before Jun had been brave enough to talk to the wizard, holding out his hand and told him his name and declared that he wanted to be friends, glaring to the people around as if he dared them to comment on it. He knew he was some kind of "celebrity" for their school, even if he had no idea how it came to that. Nino had stared at him for the longest time until Jun had felt slightly dumb for standing in front of the wizard, his hand outstretched and waiting for him to take it.
The smile that had blossomed on Nino's face was something that Jun would never forget. The same with the slightly shaky fingers that curled around his hands and the tiny, almost inaudibly "thank you".
They had stuck since then, and Jun had learnt things that he would never dare to repeat or to remember willingly.
Nino opened his lips to say something more as the bell rang, and his ears perked up. His eyes shone as he jumped to his feet, and on the way to the door, he tousled Jun's hair with the fingertips. "You own me dinner for that, though," he called as he was halfway to the door already.
Jun rolled his eyes as he made sure his hair was back to normal as the door opened, even if Nino was still steps away from it. Soon enough, he was gifted with the sight of Nino hugging his long-term boyfriend Ohno, the older man chuckling as his arms closed around him, and he nodded at Jun as he saw him at the door.
"Welcome back," Jun mouthed but then vanished to his room. He had to sort out some receipts to make sure he could pay forward as much to cover their bills as possible. He would not accept too much goodwill from Nino. There was silent mutter in the living room as Nino greeted Ohno and Ohno, laughing at his antics.
Jun shook his head but had to chuckle slightly. Ohno had gone for a few weeks now, so he could understand Nino's happiness to have him there again. After all the worry and stress because of delayed flights, a storm in the city Ohno had been in, Jun was honestly surprised that Nino had hold back to go there and bring Ohno home himself. But then again, Nino seldom used his magic outside of their home…
Jun sighed and wrote down a grocery list. If Ohno were finally home, it wouldn't hurt to make a grand dinner today and invite Aiba and Sho to make it a group thing. He knew very well that there was no way that Nino would let go of Ohno for a few days (other as for him to visit his parents, but even then, Jun was sure that Nino would come along. God, the boy was lucky that he worked from home and was self-deployed, Jun thought dryly. Otherwise, they both would be without a well paying job after this week.)
Jun left his room a bit later and chuckled at the sight of Nino on top of Ohno; they were both stretched out on the sofa, Ohno caressing his back as they whispered to each other.
"Oh, Jun, everything alright?"
"Sure, I am out getting groceries and probably taking a walk."
"Two hours?" Nino asked, and Jun lifted his eyebrow.
"Three, and you won't whine if I invite Aiba and Sho," he offered then. Nino's eyes brightened, and he nodded.
"Nice, I don't need to pull up a silencer barrier," he chuckled, shrieking when Ohno pulled at his earlobe. "What's for dinner."
"Yakiniku," Jun said with a shrug. "I want to try out the new hot plate from Aiba."
Nino grimaced at the thought of expensive, fatty meat but nodded as he could feel the excitement radiating off Ohno at that prospect.
"I'll bring sausages for you, and because you are such a baby, I will cut them to octopus for you," Jun said.
Nino stuck out his tongue but didn't deny that he would appreciate something else instead of the meat. Jun shook his head, and with a wave of his hand, was gone.
Ohno's eyes were dancing in amusement as he looked down on his younger lover and lifted his chin to press a kiss to the side of his mouth, then down to his chin. "Well, I think we should use the time to the best of our abilities," he purred into Nino's eyes, and Nino found no words to argue as he tightened his arms around Ohno's form just for them to land on top of his sheets a bit after. He wanted to make sure that Ohno came back whole after all. He silenced the laughter of Ohno with a fierce kiss as he moved up and on top of Ohno, his fingers already removing Ohno's clothes, smiling when he was met with no resistance.

Nino had his head on Ohno’s naked chest, tracing patterns around his belly button with his nail, smiling at the goosebumps his actions caused. He closed his eyes for a few seconds and sighed when Ohno’s arm closed around his shoulder to draw him closer and drop a kiss on top of his sweaty hair.
“You let it grow again,” Ohno hummed, playing with the longer strands, and Nino shrugged, careful as to not dislodge Ohno’s arm around him.
“I told you I wouldn’t let others touch it,” Nino said and looked up with a smile. “I meant it. Only you are allowed to cut it.”
Ohno chuckled and played with it a bit longer. “You are so strange sometimes,” he murmured and put a strand behind his ear. “I suppose I stay for the night?”
“Mhmm… Jun will bring good food and beer, so you better stay. You were away for a long time.
“Three months is not an eternity,” Ohno reminded him. “And you could have come with me.”
“I don’t like travelling. Too many regulations, and I get ill on the plane.”
“You could have apparated.”
Nino shrugged and sighed. He could have, but that was still a hassle. He didn’t like to travel. He didn’t like to be observed to make sure he didn’t break any regulations, and Ohno knew and accepted that. “I would have come if the storm has gotten worse and taken you home,” Nino whispered, and Ohno hugged him tightly.
He knew that Nino had been worried, but it had been unnecessary. He had been as safe as could be. He also knew that there had been a protection spell on him and even if neither had mentioned anything about it. It was Nino’s silent care for the people he loved and Ohno’s quiet acceptance of this love. He kissed his forehead again and then stretched out his back, massaging the small of Nino’s back.
“As much as I appreciate you cleaning us both already, I need a shower. Travel was stressful, and lovemaking to you is always passionate,” he whispered, biting the earlobe. “Join me?”
“Jun will be back in a few minutes,” Nino grumbled. Ohno chuckled as he sat up and lifted Nino in his arms to carry him to the bathroom. That was something that had never bothered Nino after all.
“You are strangely lost in your thoughts today,” Ohno hummed. “Why is that?”
“Just a complicated case at work. I don’t want to talk about it. And besides, Jun is depressed, which is a bit hard since he tries so very hard to hide it from me.”
“Which never works,” Ohno sighed.
“No,” Nino agreed and put his arms around his neck as Ohno told him to do so that he could open the door to their bathroom. He swirled his fingers before Ohno could close the door, chuckling when Ohno frowned down at him and put him down to the cold floor. Nino shivered as his naked toes touched the cold tiles, and he pinched Ohno’s waist in retaliation.
“You’re such a cruel lover, letting me freeze like that.”
“You’re just too stingy to put the heater in your bathroom on,” Ohno grinned, kissing the cute button nose. He just couldn’t help but touch, kiss and caress his lover each time he could, it seemed. He knew it would get less throughout today, but just as Nino, three months was a long time, and he had missed his little wizard a lot.
Nino stuck out his tongue and then chuckled as he turned around to turn on the shower. Ohno smiled as he held him around his waist to draw him close to his body as they wait for the water to heat up. Nino chuckled as he leant against him, stroking his arms and covering his hands with his own. They stayed like this for a while, exchanging kisses. Before with a slight smirk, Ohno pushed Nino under the now warm water, which earned him first a squeal and then laughter as Ohno turned him around and kissed him thoroughly on the lips.
“Time for another round?”
“Let me just…” Nino started but moaned as Ohno’s fingers already slipped down and caressed his behind. His fingers were slipping inside of him. Nino pressed automatically against Ohno, as the older slipped his tongue inside his mouth, allowing Nino just a second to murmur a spell between their lips, ensuring them privacy for as long as needed, even if both knew that Jun had probably already planned into giving them at least an hour more.
—
“So, did you two have fun?” Jun asked as he entered the living room to find Nino lying on the sofa, his head on Ohno’s lap and his eyes closed.
Ohno looked up from where he was, observing the face of his lover, softly patting his hair as he let him sleep. “Very, and I won’t give you any details,” he said with a smug smirk.
“You both are perverts. You know that, right?” Jun snorted. “I wouldn’t even want to know. The brat tired?”
“Tired him out,” Ohno said, snorting at Jun’s disgusted face. “You asked.
“Yeah, my fault,” Jun agreed, shuddering slightly.
“Loud,” Nino complained with a growl in his voice as he opened an eye and then turned around to bury his face in Ohno’s stomach. “Go away.”
“Go into your room,” Jun offered, rolling his eyes. Something that Nino swore everybody was always able to hear.
“Dirty,” Nino said, yelling when Ohno dissolved in laughter, and Jun came over to hit him on the head.
“You two are horrible. Clean your room, you lazy bum.”
Nino groaned but got up when Ohno prodded at him and ruffled his hair with his fingertips. It was such a small gesture but so loving that Nino had to smile. How could he not?
“Come on, and I’ll help you.”
Nino shrugged but let the other lead him away.
“No magic!” Jun yelled at them when Nino’s door opened.
“I do whatever I want,” Nino replied, giggling when Jun swore as their washing machine in the kitchen opened.
“Brat,” Ohno teased, and he smirked.
“J is cute when he is jumpy.”
Ohno hummed in agreement, earning a brilliant smile from Nino, who looked for his favourite set of sheets as Ohno started to strip the covers and throw them on the floor. Nino grinned as he threw the new covers to Ohno, observing him as he almost vanished inside of them as he tried to put them on the blankets. It was such a pretty sight.
“A little help?” Ohno asked, his voice clouded by the fabric over his head, and Nino smirked.
“You look as if you have everything under control.” Ohno huffed, but Nino just laughed, and Ohno could hear him coming closer and helping hands soon peeled the blanket away.
“You put those on. I will put these in the wash,” Ohno grumbled as Nino pointed at the sheets and blankets to let his magic do it. “Might as well save Jun from another heart attack.”
“He likes you better than me,” Nino said with a pout, his eyes still on his bedsheets, and with a flick of his fingers, he opened his windows. Fresh air would probably also help.
“He does not,” Ohno disagreed calmly as he left the room and Nino alone with his brooding. The young wizard sighed when he was alone and allowed the blankets to settle on the clean sheets. His eyes wandered through the small room once more before he turned around and joined his lover and roommate in the kitchen. He settled down on Ohno’s lap, who complained about his weight but shut up when Nino reminded him that he was sitting on his seat after all and just put his arms around his waist.
Jun shook his head but put two cups of coffee in front of them before settling down on his usual seat with his cup. “You need to nap?”
“No, Ohno’s lap is just very comfy,” Nino grinned and took a sip of his coffee. He sighed a bit at the perfect taste that only Jun could create and closed his eyes.
“How’s work Jun-kun?” Ohno asked, embracing Nino with one arm, who smiled because of the warmth settling inside of him. He loved being around Ohno so much.
“It could be better,” Jun said with a sigh. “Nino probably already told you?”
“No.”
“Ah…” Jun said, and Nino could tell that he felt a bit embarrassed, but he didn’t care much about it. He understood the sentiment well.
“I’m waiting for a callback. It would be a role for a romance drama,” he said then, and Ohno smiled as he hummed.
“Sounds perfect for him.”
“I told him the same,” Nino said with a smile and put his empty mug to the side. “But he doesn’t believe me.”
“It is hard to believe if nobody actually wants me,” Jun said with a sigh. “I promised myself it is the last time I’ll try,” he confessed. “If it doesn’t work, I’ll give up and look for something else.”
“It’ll be fine. And if not, you could try again,” Ohno said, and Nino hummed in agreement.
Jun smiled as he shook his head. It was time, he thought to himself, to let his dreams be if they didn’t work out. He should be able to manage on his own and not rely on Nino’s help. He was sure that the two men in front of him would also appreciate that.
“You think too much,” Nino scolded him, opening his eyes and meeting his. Jun sighed and shook his head.
“I do not,” he disagreed. “Just the right amount, maybe you just think too little,” he teased instead, chuckling when the golden eyes sparkled in silent glee.
“I think the right amount. Thank you very much. It’s a trait of wizards to always just do everything in the right amount.”
“Sure,” Jun mumbled while Ohno hid his face against Nino’s hair and chuckled at his answer.
“I love you,” he whispered inside his ear, seeing the smirk on Nino’s face. “Just the right amount, ne?”
“Yup!” Nino agreed, grinning when Ohno rubbed his cheek and Jun got up to start on their dinner, forcing the two men to help in their ways (which mostly meant that Nino was forbidden to prepare any of their food since Jun was sure he would never get used to flying knives ever in his whole life and that for pretty good reasons).
A/N: I totally forgot where I was going with this story. I apologise… I try to get back to it if I ever remember what the point of this story was ;_; (if not, I will write an NC-17 scene and end the story in the next chapter XD)
Chapter Text
“Still up?” Nino asked surprised as he came out of his bedroom late the night.
Jun shrugged as he put the papers aside he was studying and looked at Nino for a second. “I am more surprised you left Ohno alone.”
“He’s fast asleep. I took a nap, he didn’t. Pretty sure the flight had been stressful.”
“Still doesn’t explain why you are not with him. You normally don’t let him out of your eyes for at least two days after he is back.”
Nino shrugged and sat down beside him, he drew his legs up to his body and observed him for a few more minutes. “I was just getting myself a drink,” he said in the end, laughing when Jun looked at him a bit unbelieving. He understood it was a very weak lie. If he really needed a drink he would have used his magic.
Nino leant against Jun with a small hum. “Okay, I’m worried about you.”
“Why? I am okay.”
“You’re not,” Nino disagreed. “I can’t help but recognise your emotions. Especially if they are so strong.”
“I tend to forget that,” Jun hummed and Nino rolled his eyes.
“Well, I do. So what is going on? What are you keeping from me? It’s bothering me.”
“I’m sorry for bothering you,” Jun said with a sigh and started to tread his fingers through Nino’s hair. It was stupid but the motion somehow relaxed him. Nino stayed silent as he waited for Jun to sort out his thoughts.
“I am thinking about the future,” Jun explained. “I am no longer a child, running after its stupid dreams.”
“There are no stupid dreams. There are a few that are easier to achieve than others though.”
Jun chuckled and shook his head. “Maybe for a wizard, but not for us normal humans,” Jun said and put his hand on top of his mouth before Nino could disagree. “And that is okay for me. You are already bound by so many rules it is a surprise you decided to stay around.”
“I have Oh-chan,” Nino said with a shrug. “And I could not leave you stranded when you decided to purchase your dream of being an actor. You didn’t leave me stranded either.”
Jun chuckled and hummed in thought. “I might have decided otherwise if I already knew what a brat you were to become.”
“I always have been a brat,” Nino said with a cheeky grin to which Jun pinched his nose.
“Yeah you probably blinded me on purpose,” he said flinching when Nino frowned and then licked his hand. “Disgusting!”
“Well, your fault,” he chuckled. “You held your hand over my mouth and nose. And I did not use any magic on you back then.”
“Ah, so how did my favourite ring appear again after I looked for it for a week?”
“Luck?” Nino offered and laughed when Jun snorted. “But for real. What brought those thoughts up?”
“I am serious when I say I will give up if I don’t get the role. It is tiring and depressing. I don’t like it anymore, aid it is just time for me to grow up. And it is time to move on, Nino. I appreciate that you don’t mind paying the rent for both of us to support me, but…”
“I think I understand in a way. I just want you to know that there is no need to pressure yourself, okay?”
“I know that. Don’t worry, I will not rush anything.”
“That’s good then.”
“And Nino?”
“Mhm?”
“I would like it if you don’t think I am special because I didn’t bully you big then.”
“I don’t think you are special because of that. I know you are special because of many different things,” Nino argued. “But it is a sweet memory for me.”
“Why?”
“Because I was very certain that the term would be the worse I will ever have to live through. Not only because I had to go to a human school and learn all those stuff without using magic. I grew up with it around me and used it all the time and I knew the horror stories about it from my cousins. I was also a very shy kid and home-schooled before. So I was sure not to enjoy a second.”
“I still don’t understand, it came true, right?”
“Yes, but I was too stubborn to give up but was sure that I would never want to work with humans afterwards. You taught me the opposite. So I am thankful for that. If not for you I would never have met Oh-chan. And that would’ve been a pity.”
Jun shuddered at the thought. As much as he complained about the shows of love Nino and Ohno put out he was sure that they were real soul-mates and that the world would be a sadder place if they never met. “You’re right that would have been awful,” he said and Nino laughed out loud.
“Yep, so let me be thankful,” he mumbled and kissed his cheek. “It’s not only because you offered me a hand but much more. And I promise there is no way I will ever let you exploit me, okay?”
“But what if you and Ohno want to live together?”
“If it comes to that, we will find a solution together, Jun. It doesn’t mean I will throw you out, Ohno wouldn’t do that either. And right now I am pretty thankful that his art material doesn’t mess my whole apartment.”
“You wouldn’t mind;” Jun argued and Nino shrugged, maybe not, but he was not too sure about that. He hated chaos, same with Jun that’s why they worked well together as flatmates.
“Jun, I’m sure you’ll get the role. It’s perfect for you. They would be stupid not to take you. Please don’t worry.”
“If you say so…”
“I do, and I promise I would not go there and make them take you, okay?”
“Okay, thanks I guess.”
“You’re welcome,” Nino said with a chuckle. “Try to get some sleep though. You look tired and nobody will hire you if you have deep eye shadows.”
“Brat,” Jun said and ruffled his hair. “You should go back to Ohno, or he’ll get upset.”
“Never, he knows I only love him,” Nino said with a chuckle. “And he knows you are important and a good guy. Or he wouldn’t let us live together that easily.”
“Pretty sure he will let you do whatever you want.”
“No, he doesn’t. He also can get jealous when people flirt with me, and really angry when he thinks I do something stupid,” Nino said seriously.
Jun’s eyes softened as he nodded and flicked his nose. “I know, he’s a good guy. Always has been when it came to you.”
“Because I’m special,” Nino said with a grin.
“Sure whatever you say.” Jun rolled his eyes when Nino jumped to his feet and seconds after two bottles of cold tea appeared in his hands.
“Goodnight Jun.”
“Goodnight brat.”
Nino was still chuckling silently to himself as he entered his room and climbed on the bed beside Ohno, who looked up from the book he was reading when Nino offered him one of the bottles.
“Talked it all out?”
“For tonight yes,” Nino agreed and smiled when Ohno pulled him on his lap and put his arm around him as he swayed them to music only he could hear. “I’m glad.”
“Me too,” Nino whispered, closing his eyes as Ohno started to leave small kisses along his neck. He was one of the luckiest persons alive he thought with a small smile.
Chapter Text
Nino sighed as he turned over in bed and rubbed his nose against Ohno’s naked shoulder. He would never get enough of his scent. He licked at the slightly sweaty skin, smiling at the taste that he also would never get enough of.
“Good morning,” Ohno whispered, burying his face in his hair and tightening his arms around the smaller frame of his lover.
“Morning,” Nino whispered, pressing a kiss against his chest. “How are you feeling this morning?”
“I should ask you that,” Ohno said and Nino smiled softly. “You can tell I feel good, right?”
“I do,” Nino agreed and sighed as Ohno hugged him just slightly more in a way that was almost suffocating but Nino preferred it like that. He felt grounded and lifted at the same time when he and Ohno were as close as they were right now.
Right from the start of their relationship Ohno had told and taught Nino to let his guard down completely whenever it was the two of them. And it was only Ohno where it didn’t feel scary or bad. Also, Nino had never realised how tiring it was for him as an empath to always keep up a wall around him as to not accidentally read the emotions of the people around him. Something he didn’t want. Not only because it felt wrong but also there was always the fear inside of him that he would be met with hatred.
“So how are you feeling?” Ohno asked after a few more minutes of letting Nino just soak him in. Nino smiled when long fingers cradled his head and started to play with his hair.
“Surprisingly good. Or not so surprisingly. I talked with Jun, you are here. I know you both are safe and I am sure that Jun will get a positive answer soon.”
“But?”
“He will leave me,” Nino said with a sigh. “I knew it would happen. I am not stupid, we wouldn’t be roommates for the rest of our lives but…”
“But it still would be a change.”
“A pretty big one,” Nino agreed.
“Also, he would not be in immediate reach anymore.”
Nino stayed silent and then shrugged before he moved so that he could rest his chin on Ohno’s chest and look into his face. “Partly yes. Change is always stressful, I can’t deal well with it because so many emotions are intertwined with it. But I can deal with it. It is just… I worry about Jun. I don’t want him to give up a dream because he thinks he needs to. I… Want only his best.”
“I know, Kazunari,” Ohno whispered and smiled at the blush that appeared on Nino’s cheeks like always he used his full name. He moved his face giggling when Nino groaned at the stretch of his neck and pecked his nose. “But try to understand where he is coming from as well and I promise you he wouldn’t start hating you suddenly.”
Nino wrinkled his nose, clearly not happy with that but then he nodded in agreement and with a sigh. He supposed he could try. “But you know that if he moves out to be on his own I will demand of you to move in with me?”
“Oh the horror,” Ohno said with a playful shudder. He grinned as he tightened his grip around Nino’s waist, pressing him against his middle. “Do you feel how much the thought disgusts me?”
Nino moaned slightly at the hard-on against his waist and moved up to close his lips over Ohno’s in a hard kiss. “Prove it to me then.”
—
“Already up?” Ohno asked surprised when he stumbled into the living room after Nino had chased him out to get them breakfast, stating that he was even too tired to lift a finger to make it appear.
“You were loud,” Jun grumbled, his face halfway vanishing behind a big mug of coffee and Ohno had the decency to look a bit embarrassed.
“Sorry, I suppose Nino forgot.”
“Seems like it. You both okay?”
“Always,” Ohno said with a chuckle. “Why are you suddenly worried about us?”
Jun shrugged and leant back against the sofa, his eyes turned to the ceiling as he thought it over. “How long have you both been together now?”
“Seven years,” Ohno said with a chuckle. “Do you want the exact number of months and days as well?”
“No thanks,” Jun said with a grimace. “And still you never thought of living together?”
“From time to time, but never seriously,” Ohno said with a chuckle. “You are very thoughtful nowadays.”
“Nino was so scared when you were away. I have no idea what exactly happened, he didn’t tell me and forbid me to look it up.”
“And you listened?”
“Of course,” Jun snorted. “He is a brat if he thinks he has a right to do so.”
Ohno laughed and nodded. “True. Well, try not to ponder over it too much.”
“Can’t help it there are very interesting documentaries on future and dreams online.”
“Oh, you went down a rabbit hole?” Ohno teased and Jun shrugged. In a way he did. He just wondered a lot lately.
“Both of you are adorable. Like two very protective brothers that have to learn to be on their own two feet and fear losing the other. You should lay it all out one of these days.”
“Sure,” Jun agreed with a chuckle. “You are probably right.”
“Of course, in the scenario, I am the old wise man and now excuse me I need to feed my lover or he will die of starvation.”
“Tell him I love him too.”
“You do that yourself, later.”
Jun chuckled but nodded as he finished his coffee and stretched. “I have to get ready for work.”
“Sure we’ll probably come over for a cup of coffee if I manage to drag the brat out.”
Jun snorted as he stood to go to the bathroom. “Good luck with that.”
Ohno laughed softly as he fetched two cups of coffee and packed melon bread before hiding away with his lover in the bedroom again. Nino looked up sleepily from where he had left him and Ohno smiled fondly down at him.
“Scared about little old me? Really?”
“I’ll kill Jun,” Nino mumbled and Ohno shook his head as he sat down beside him, after putting the tray he had brought on the bedside drawer. He opened his arms for Nino to allow him to hide against his body and kissed the crown of his head.
“I will never leave you. I promised.”
“I know. But I can’t help it. I hate when you are not here.”
“Sorry, my love.”
Nino hugged him and sighed. “I know.”
Ohno stayed silent for a while longer until Nino looked up at him again. “Can you cut my hair today?”
“Sure, I don’t mind,” Ohno agreed and kissed his lips.
Nino grinned at that promise and relaxed on top of him. FOr him cutting the hair meant that Ohno was truly and safely back in his arms and he knew that ritual was silly but it was what it was.
He took the coffee and drank it slowly as he leant against Ohno, listening to the calm breathing and regular heartbeat. He felt loved and the calm radiating from Ohno told him everything was going to be okay.
Chapter Text
“Satoshi-kun can you come over?” Jun asked with a sigh and pulled his slightly longer hair. It was already permed for his role - he still couldn’t believe that he really got the role. And not even the role he had auditioned for but the main one. For a bit, he had feared that Nino even without mentioning something would have done something.
But he knew better than to say that out loud. He knew that Nino believed in him more than Jun did himself and he knew the repercussions Nino would have to face if he manipulated people like that. Nino was a brat but he wouldn’t go against laws.
“Why?”
“Because Nino is brooding and I honestly worry about him,” Jun said, blinking as he was brought back to reality.
“Huh? What happened?” Ohno asked, but Jun could tell by the echo he could hear that Ohno put him on speakers and was already getting ready to leave his home. Jun admired them for the fact that both always would let everything go to check on their lover. Jun hoped he would find someone like that for him.
“I might have told him, that I went to check out apartments and found one I really like.”
“Jun-kun…” Ohno sighed.
Jun pouted at that. He had thought that Nino had come to accept his wish for moving out over the last few weeks. He could tell that Ohno and Nino sometimes sat on the sofa, Nino on Ohno’s lap whispering about what they would like to do with a home of their own and it was cute. Jun wanted to support it fully and he had been so sure that Nino was excited about that change.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset him. But it is scary, he is not just mad or sad but it’s as if something is wavering around him and I don’t want to leave him alone, but I need to get going to be at work on time.”
“I’m on my way,” Ohno sighed. “I’ll stay and when you’re back we talk.”
Jun hesitated as it could be late and he was sure that sleep would be better then but in the end, he sighed before he agreed.
“If you are too tired we can think of something else then.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“No problem, do you need to go right away or can you wait up until I’m there to let me in?”
“I have to leave in thirty minutes.”
“Got it!” Ohno said and just before he disconnected the call Jun could tell that the other opened the door and left.
—
“Go away!” Nino yelled when his door opened. He was honestly surprised that Jun even dared to come inside right now. Jun never would walk into his room without waiting to be allowed first. He threw his cushion towards the door for a second wishing that he dared to magically throw stuff at actual people, huffing when the sound it made indicated that his threw ended short.
He sat up, turning towards the door with a grumble and a glare on his face which changed into a face of wonder and embarrassment as he recognised Ohno’s bemused face instead of Jun.
Ohno chuckled as he crossed his arms in front of his chest and leant against the door. “Throwing stuff? Really?”
“Go away,” Nino mumbled but moved towards the edge of his bed, wishing to hide in Ohno’s arms. Ohno chuckled as he followed his silent wish to be close and collected him in his arms.
“Why are you here?”
“Jun called me and told me he is worried about you.”
“He’s a liar,” Nino grumbled and pressed his face against his shoulder, sniffling slightly as Ohno started to sway him in his arms.
“Is he now? The figure I met when I entered would worry me as well,” Ohno said and played with his hair. “What is wrong?”
Nino shrugged and hugged him more tightly, denying Ohno any answer as if that would make things better. Ohno stayed silent as he waited for Nino to be ready to talk to him again.
“Pretty sure Jun already told you.”
“He told me he found a nice apartment he hopes to be able to get.”
Nino stiffened slightly in his arms but then he sighed and nodded. “He did.”
“That’s good for him, though. Don’t you think so?”
“I don’t like it,” Nino said and finally allowed himself to look up to him.
Ohno chuckled and cupped his cheek to wipe away the tears still clinging to his eyelashes. “Poor baby. Not everything will go as you like things to go just because you want them to,” Ohno said calmly and tweaked his nose, smiling when Nino answered that by pouting and wrinkling his nose. He put a kiss on top of it because he couldn’t stop himself. Not with his adorable lover.
“I know,” Nino said after another silence between them and snuggled closer with a sigh. “I don’t know why I got so upset.”
“I do. Until now it was all just speculations, all thoughts were just “if” in your head not “when” and now it seems very close and sudden. It scared you. And I am pretty sure that even if Jun is very excited he is also very scared which you pick up on because it resonates with you.”
“I hate feeling like that.”
“I know.”
Nino fell silent again, closing his eyes and soaking in the calm that Ohno radiated right now. “I got too used to the familiarity that is Jun,” Nino said after a while. “I am surprised you are not mad that I am fighting so much against letting Jun move out.”
“I know that you are not opposed to living with me but to the change in itself.”
“I am stupid. Or not stupid, my mind is just strange sometimes.”
“Yep,” Ohno said, yelling when Nino pouted and pinched him hard.
“You’re supposed to be nice to me.”
“Sorry, sorry. Okay, let’s be honest here and face it all, okay?”
“Okay,” Nino said and pursed his lips, not sure to what he agreed to.
“Jun for you was the one who connected you to the human world. I know you feel pretty at home here now, maybe more than in your old family neighbourhood filled with wizards and that scares you a bit. It is normal. But you forget that even when Jun leaves you won’t be left on your own.”
Nino pouted a bit and leant against Ohno. “I always could go back,” he murmured but knew that it was not the truth. He felt like an outsider there now. Normally wizards didn’t connect with so many humans as he did. Falling in love with a human was almost unheard of. Of course, his family accepted his decisions but he knew that neighbours were looking strangely at him.
But living alone in a human neighbourhood would also be very hard to achieve. Jun was his safety card just as much as he was for Jun. Jun could go out and deal with everything and everybody that was wary about wizards. Nobody needed to do check-ups if he followed the rules because they were stupid like that, and even if Nino could deal with it, get everything he needed to live here or there he wouldn’t like either. He just hated to be scrutinised and made feel as if he was different.
He was just him, after all not someone that needed to be kept under scrutiny to make sure he behaved.
Ohno looked down at the smaller man with a smile on his face and he lifted his chin to put a small kiss on his forehead.
“Kazu, would you like to live together with me? Create our own little nest that only belongs to us and where we don’t care about the rest of the world?”
Nino blinked at the question and then stared at the other with big eyes as realisation hit him. Yes, he had told Ohno as a joke that he needed them to live together, they had talked about what they liked or didn’t like in their home and had made up strange things they would be going to buy. But it had been jokes. Or it had been him demanding it and Ohno just going along with it.
Nino didn’t want Ohno to go along with what he wanted if he didn’t feel the same, just because he was insecure about what to do on his own he didn’t want Ohno to be forced to live with them. He knew he was not the easiest person to be around 24/7. He had feared that Ohno would feel pressured to say yes if Nino asked seriously or outright said no. Nino was not sure which would have been worst, to be honest.
He smiled finally and moved forward to kiss him finally. “Yes, I would like that,” he whispered against the warm lips of his lover.
“Then we should not concentrate on you not living with Jun anymore here, but about building our dream home, okay? I promise, we will be there for Jun if he needs to, and he will be there for us. How does that sound?”
“I like how that sounds,” Nino said in the end and Ohno chuckled before he kissed him again.
“And now how about you change into proper clothes and I take you out for a date. Your brooding reminded me that it probably has been a few days since you got some proper sunlight.”
Nino pouted since he didn’t like going out so much, but he couldn’t deny the truth in Ohno’s statement so with a big sigh he stood to change into jeans and a sweatshirt before still very grumbly allowed Ohno to take him out for a long walk and dinner date.
Chapter Text
Nino looked up surprised when there was a knock on his door and he frowned for a second before he realised that it was Jun. For a second he had been worried that he had forgotten about a date with Ohno - again.
Ohno had been over a lot the last few weeks with apartments for them to check out. Nino just couldn’t concentrate on them, his mind always on the job he had to do right now. At least that was his excuse. He had no idea what he should be looking for. He also couldn’t tell Ohno his problem. It had been the same with this flat.
In the end, Jun had dragged him from one flat to the other and for this one, all had felt right so they agreed on this one. He wanted to do the same with Ohno, but for Ohno, it was important to choose together right from the start and it just didn’t work. Nino knew he needed to explain it more to the other but there was where the work stepped in. He just didn’t have the strength to talk after studying the old books all day.
He sighed and rubbed his eyes, shoving his glasses further up his head as he massaged the back of his nose. There was another knock and he was reminded that someone was waiting for him.
“Yes?” he said, as he moved his fingers on top of the books and his notes so that they would stay how they were and moved his shoulders to loosen the tension that had build there as he opened the door.
“Save to come in?” Jun asked with a lifted eyebrow and Nino looked behind him.
“Sure, I am not blowing up anything. Still at the studying stage.”
“Fun,” Jun said as he wrinkled his nose.
Nino smirked slightly as he nodded. He always loved to study old scriptures and try to get behind stuff and solving puzzles. Jun had never enjoyed that so it was always clear that the other would rather do something more creative. The acting was perfect for him. But to be honest for Nino solving and breaking curses was kind of creative work. Something different than Jun or Ohno preferred since it also needed logic but he loved it.
“It actually is. It is just a bit hard because the old rolls are not very well kept,” he mumbled. “What do you want?”
“Dinner is ready. Did Satoshi say if he would come over?”
“Pretty sure Satoshi is fed up with me right now,” Nino said with a groan. “But I need to concentrate on this stupid curse and how to break it. I mean honestly, why do humans decide to build apartments on a place that they didn’t check out first?”
“Because they liked the place, and pretty sure that Ohno doesn’t mind,” Jun said and shrugged as Nino snorted.
“Sure. You said something about dinner?” Nino asked as he shrugged. He was pretty sure that Ohno was a mix about being annoyed and being okay with him. But it was a bit stupid that their apartment hunt fell into the middle of this curse-breaking task.
Jun rolled his eyes but led him to the kitchen where Jun had prepared a teriyaki beef and delicious broccoli dish.
“Are you still up to helping me pack my stuff?”
“Yes, will do me some good to actually use magic and not only read about it,” Nino murmured with a glare as he stabbed one piece of broccoli on his fork and stuffed it into his mouth. Too soon. It was too soon, but he had agreed and accepted Jun’s decision. Now he needed to be the adult enough to help him move if he liked it or not.
“You are still moping,” Jun said with a chuckle and poked his cheek.
“Am not.”
“Are too. Did you even put an effort in the apartment hunting so far?”
“I tried to explain to Satoshi why it is hard for me,” Nino mumbled, fighting his blush at the look Jun shot him. “Okay, maybe I didn’t try that hard.”
“Nino…” Jun said with a sigh. “Well, you can try tomorrow. Ohno agreed to help.”
“Wha..? He didn’t tell me!” Nino complained with a pout.
“Sure he didn’t mention it?”
Nino stuck out his tongue. He was pretty sure he would have heard it because he listened well to whatever Ohno told him when they were together. He made it a point!
Jun chuckled and shook his head. “Sorry, I like messing with your head. It is funny whenever you are worried about Ohno. He called me earlier to ask if I would appreciate another pair of hands. And since you would not really lend a hand I would like a second pair of hands.”
“HEY! My help is way better than just a second pair of hands!” Nino complained and shoved Jun’s shoulder who laughed out loud.
“Go to bed early tonight. Your head is turning into mush, I’m sure.”
Nino snorted but he had to agree. It was the first meal he took outside of his room for a while now and he had forgotten how nice it was.
“But before that how about a movie night?” Nino offered, grinning when Jun agreed and soon after dinner Nino used his powers to wash the dishes and they got comfortable on the sofa together with some snacks and drinks which was a very nice last night living in the same flat.
—
Ohno opened the door to Nino’s room the next morning, chuckling when the other man shrieked as he didn’t expect anybody to enter. “Satoshi! What? Why are you here already? Jun said you will come late morning,” he said with wide eyes.
His eyes wandered to the tray in his hands and Ohno chuckled softly. “I can tell you didn’t sleep a lot,” Ohno said with a chuckle and came over to put the tray on the table careful as to not destroy the order Nino put his papers in. He pushed the hair covering Nino’s forehead back and kissed it softly. “How are you?”
“It’s going well. I finally found a possible solution to break the stupid curse.”
“Nice,” Ohno said and ruffled his hair.
“But I will stop for today,” Nino said, stretching his hands above his head as Ohno rubbed his shoulders. “Did Jun send you with the food?”
“Yup, you didn’t answer his calls. So he was worried and didn’t want to wake you. Imagine my surprise to see you up and bowed over your books.”
“Oh I bet it was a big surprise,” Nino said sarcastically and moved his hand to let another chair appear for Ohno to join him.
Ohno smirked as he put a strawberry into his mouth and took the second mug of coffee to drink. “You know what I never will get used to?”
“What?” Nino asked as he nibbled on the toast with jam Jun prepared for him.
“To see you work without robes. I always imagined wizards wearing shimmering robes.”
“You read too many fairy tales as a kid,” Nino said with a chuckle. “Robes are very unpractical but they were a thing in the past.”
“I always wondered if you would wear anything under it,” Ohno said with a smirk, wriggling his eyebrows, laughing when Nino spluttered and choked on his toast.
“No killing my best friend!” Jun yelled when he heard the commotion coming from Nino’s room. “I made you check if he was still alive not ending the job of making sure he is dead.”
“Aww, will Junny miss me?” Nino asked louder, smiling when Jun came to stand on the threshold to his room.
“I need your very capable help. You bragged about it so much now I would like to see it in reality.”
Nino stuck out his tongue and finished his toast and took the mug in his hand as he glanced at Ohno, watching them with a small smile on his face. “Also, we need to talk about our move,” Nino said in the end with a deep sigh.
Ohno furrowed his brows a bit questioningly but at the calming smile coming from Nino so he just nodded. “Sure. Looking forward to it.”
Nino smiled and put his hands on his knees before moving forward to put his lips against Ohno’s mouth. “I love you,” he whispered before closing the last distance between them as Ohno put his hands on top of Nino’s hand in a warm reassuring way. They were going to figure this out today. Nino wanted to make sure that happened.
Chapter Text
Jun mock-glared at Nino as the young wizard lazily moved his fingers to help them lift the heavy furniture that Jun would take with him. They had spend a few days figuring out which pieces Jun would take and what Nino would take when he finally moved with Ohno. Nino had ended up taking way less than Jun with the explanation that Ohno had most of the stuff they needed and there was no way Nino would be able to fit two of the same things in. Jun had looked a bit insecure about it, but in the end accepted when Ohno chimed in that Nino was right.
Both older men knew that Jun had not the finances yet to buy new stuff for his home and they wanted to ease the move as much as possible for him. Nino wanted to do that especially because he knew he was kinda awful about it all and it was his way to apologise and show Jun that he accepted the decision.
“You could really help more,” Jun said as Ohno huffed when the weight got more suddenly as Nino stuck out his tongue to Jun and let his grip of magic go.
“I need to preserve my energy levels,” Nino said only half serious. He would have to start on the curse soon and then it was true. He needed all the energy he had. And he was so not looking forward to the fatigue afterwards, especially since Jun would not be there. It was a very scary thought but he would figure that out when it came to that.
“Liar,” Jun hissed under his breath, but he looked a bit insecure as Ohno finally set down the sofa with Jun in the middle of the new flat. He chuckled and put his arms around his lover tickling his sides.
“Brat, if we could somehow quicken this up I’m sure Jun would make us dinner, right?” he asked Jun who opened his mouth to complain but then saw Nino’s commentating face.
“I could make hamburger steak… Of course, only if I have enough time to go buy the ingredients and get started with cooking… But if you are so low on energy right now…” he said as he caught on and Ohno hid his smirk against Nino’s ear.
“I will make you pay for all of our move,” Nino said with a pout, knowing fully well he won’t. He would chip in and he would handle it even more than with Jun, because… The movers would know he was a wizard and Nino didn’t like their haughty remarks about weakness. With Jun and Ohno it was all fun and games but others were often awful. “But yeah, yeah. I get it. You go buy the stuff, I want the best ingredients there are! And let me handle it alone with Oh-chan.”
“Getting shy around me?”
“No getting annoyed when you flinch when small things fly around. I don’t want to lose my focus because you freak out when a wardrobe flies up the stairs,” Nino snorted.
Jun pouted but also blushed slightly because Nino was right. He probably would react strangely. He already found it strange when the weight of the stuff they carried got lighter whenever Nino did help out.
Nino smiled and moved closer to Jun, as he kissed his cheek. It was almost cute how Jun reacted always even if he was so used to it at the same time. “Love you too, hurry, and bring beer.”
“Yes, yes,” Jun said and waved as he left them alone.
Ohno lifted an eyebrow and looked at Nino with an amused look as the wizard furrowed his brows as he concentrated on the stuff they still needed to move. When his fingertips glowed slightly and the stiffness of the shoulders shifted slightly Ohno knew it was safe to speak again.
“You know where to put it all?”
“Jun is a person of habit. I saw the draw-ups of this flat. It is mostly as it was in our old one. So it’ll be fine.”
“If you say so, then I can go sit on the sofa and watch?”
Nino snorted and looked back at him. “I so should make you carry boxes.”
Ohno pouted and dragged Nino to pull him on his lap. “I will give you snuggles.”
Nino giggled but fell silent as he leant against him, his mind focusing already on the blueprint of the apartment building, the paths they had taken and where the furniture needed to go. Jun had surprisingly moved closer to the wizard community so people were not that disturbed by the things and Nino didn’t need to fear accidents too much that way.
“You wanted to talk?” Ohno asked as he watched the boxes wander to the bedroom and Nino hummed. “About the move? Do you want to stay in the apartment?”
Nino shook his head. “No. It’s the space I shared with Jun.”
“You make it sound as if you were past lovers,” Ohno teased him and Nino pinched his side. It was complicated to explain, but he would need a physical move to move forward mentally as well.
“Stupid, but…”
“But?”
“I am not good at making decisions. I see stuff as it is. I can’t imagine how it will look like filled with stuff, lived-in. So everything looks wrong. I need you to decide. I am happy you want to include me, but I can’t.”
“I want you to feel comfortable in whatever we’ll chose,” Ohno explained.
Nino smiled. “I will feel comfortable everywhere we will go together. I know that. And I only will put in a veto if the flat you chose is cursed.”
“And that coming from the best curse-breaker in history.”
“Flatterer, but really. The thought of living somewhere cursed or lived in by ghosts that can’t let go, creeps me out. I don’t understand that people don’t mind that.”
“So you don’t want to choose with me?” Ohno asked and Nino looked at him for a second as he nibbled his lower lip. The box he was manoeuvring right now hitting the wall as his mind went somewhere else. He swore slightly and looked back at what he was supposed to do.
“No, everything will feel wrong until we move in and live there for a few weeks. I trust you to chose the perfect place, I’m sorry.”
Ohno smiled and kissed the back of his neck. “If that was the problem until now, it is okay. I got it, and you only need to check for bad spirits, deal?”
Nino smiled and sank more against him. “Deal.” He had done that with Jun. The other had just dragged him to their apartment and made him sign the shared lease. It had worked out fine, and he was sure that with Ohno it would even be better. “Thank you.”
“I love you, my little worrywart. We can deal with everything, promise.”
“I know, I sometimes just have strange fears.”
“I know,” Ohno whispered and hugged him even tighter. “My beloved little wizard, I will find the perfect home. Don’t worry.”
Nino smiled more genuine now and was sure that it would be perfect because Ohno was nothing than perfect and determined. Talking, he reminded himself. Talking was important, Ohno couldn’t read his mind and feelings and he tended to forget that sometimes because on so many days it felt like Ohno actually could. He sighed when the last box was finally placed on the kitchen table and sank against Ohno.
“Tired?”
“A bit.”
“You can rest, I got you, Jun will prepare dinner and then you’ll feel better after eating.”
“Mhm…” Nino whispered as he already dozed off slowly in the warm embrace of his lover.
Chapter Text
"I could have helped," Nino said with a slight pout in his voice as he entered their new apartment that afternoon.
It had gone fast to find a suitable place for Ohno after he understood Nino's reasoning for being unable to decide with him on a place. Ohno was happy that he had found a place close to the wizard community for Nino to visit if he wanted to. It was a bizarre thought for Nino, but he understood the reasoning, and it would be nice not to have to travel through half of the city to get there if he needed things or wanted to visit his family.
Also, the place was surprisingly close to Jun's new home, who had chosen an apartment close to the wizard community on purpose. Nino was unsure if both of them had talked about that beforehand, but if they did, he was thankful for that. It felt good and safe to know both of the most important persons in his life were so close to him.
Nino had thought that he and Ohno would move as Jun had done, with the younger man's help and then his magic, but Ohno had already paid for a moving company to do everything. They dismantled the things they wanted to take, took the things they wanted to throw out, and then built their stuff up again. All that while he was at work for some last minute preparations for his curse-breaking.
"I know, but I wanted to make it as stress-free as possible," Ohno whispered and kissed the nape of his neck, which always brought shivers to Nino's back with a small smile. "Your great day is tomorrow," Ohno reminded him, and Nino chuckled.
"Just work," Nino snorted, and Ohno hugged him a bit tighter around his waist, swaying them from side to side as he hummed in agreement.
It was true it was just working, but Ohno still worried. As always. But it was the same for Nino whenever he was away for work, so they both tried not to mention it as much as possible.
"Still, I thought it would be nice to come home to a home with already built furniture. You mentioned that everything felt alien if it was bare."
"True," Nino sighed, looking around as he realised that this was his home now. He sank against Ohno, who held him even a bit tighter to support his additional weight.
"Welcome home, love," Ohno whispered into his ear, his lips touching his earlobe with every syllable, causing even more, shivers on his body.
"I'm home," Nino answered, feeling the warmth spread out inside his chest at the words and the truth that hid in those words. It was a very good feeling. His eyes fell on some of his favourites pictures that Ohno painted in his free time, and he smiled. "You also decorated."
"Yup, I wanted to make it homey. Did I succeed?"
"Very," Nino said, closing his eyes and breathing in deeply. Now that he accepted that Ohno did this on his own and was sure that Ohno did not mind having done it all alone, his mind was free to wander, take everything in, and it felt warm in here. It felt like an embrace of Ohno. It smelled fresh and citrus, which calmed down his mind all the time, and in his inner eye, he could see colours intertwining, creating very calming patterns.
His fingertips prickled with unused magic that he had thought he would use today, and he couldn't help but trace them on the inside of Ohno's wrist up to his elbow, watching as traces of yellow and blue sparkles followed his fingers, causing goosebumps on Ohno's arms. "Will we stay alone for tonight?"
"Yes, I don't want to tire you out, though," Ohno said with a slight scold in his tone. "You should be in your best condition."
"I know, I know," Nino said with a roll of his eyes. "I am not talking about sex, but I need food and sharing a bath?"
Ohno agreed with a sound kiss onto his lips and allowed Nino to leave his embrace so that he could use his pent up magic to prepare them a small dinner and the water just as he liked. A few hours later, they ended up in bed, sharing some small kisses and caresses until Ohno's arms closed around his lover again, kissing the tip of his nose.
"Sleep, my love. Good night."
"Good night," Nino whispered and folded up against him, closing his eyes and soon enough, he fell to sleep in his lover's embrace. He had to be up early in the morning after all.
Ohno sighed as he caressed his back with his fingertips and pressed his lips against Nino's forehead. He closed his eyes slightly at the scent of Nino so close and prayed that tonight would not be the last night he would be allowed to experience it. He always had the same fear the night before but would never allow himself to show it openly to Nino as to not put the extra baggage on him. Nino needed the clear head after all, but he was happy to have managed the complete move before Nino had to head out tomorrow and that Nino liked it.
Tomorrow would be a day filled with worrying, praying and hoping, but Ohno knew they would be fine, and in the end, he would welcome Nino with open arms in their new little arms and give him the time he needed to heal and rest. Just as he always did together with Jun.
A/N: Very short very bad but at least an update?
Chapter Text
“Be careful,” Ohno said as he kissed Nino’s lips lovingly.
Nino snorted and cupped Ohno’s face in his hands. “I’m always careful, stupid. I’ll be okay.”
“You say that,” Ohno murmured and Nino pretended not to hear him as he kissed the tip of Ohno’s nose.
“Don’t wait up for me.”
“It’ll be getting late?”
“Probably. If I hadn’t such confidence in my abilities I would have denied today’s case,” Nino said as he pursed his lips. It was going to be hard and long and tiring, but he’ll be okay. He knew that and he had to believe in that because otherwise, it might not come true.
“That’s because you’re the best wizard in existence,” Ohno said, a teasing in his voice which brought a laugh out of Nino as he hummed.
“Sure, whatever you say, dear.”
Ohno stuck out his tongue and kissed him again. “I’ll still wait. I don’t care how long it takes, I’ll wait until my little beloved wizard is back in my arms.”
“Mhm…” Nino hummed and kissed his lips. “Then you can also take that time you’re waiting for cleaning.”
Ohno stuck out his tongue but he knew he would end up doing exactly that after the shopping trip he needed to do to cook for the next two days and the potion against magical tiredness even if Nino hated drinking those it was better than the flu-like symptoms he would live through otherwise. (And for one Ohno didn’t like Nino whining, and two he hated seeing Nino weak if there was a way to prevent it.)
He watched Nino leave and typed a quick message for Jun to let the younger man know that their worrisome wizard and friend was now gone to do his job with the promise to inform Jun as soon as Nino was back safely in his arms.
—
“Is he back yet?” Jun asked and Ohno chuckled softly as he denied. It was the fourth call this day and it was not even three pm. So it was slightly amusing. At least it was a welcome distraction.
“No, not yet. He said it’ll be late,” Ohno reminded him, smiling when Jun clicked his tongue in annoyance.
“That brat,” Jun huffed. “Taking his sweet time while we are waiting.”
“Are you that worried?”
“Don’t be silly. He’s the best! And he knows I’ll kill him if he dares to die.”
Ohno laughed and rubbed his eyes as he fell to the sofa with a sigh. “Of course.”
“What are you doing?”
“I got the order to clean the apartment and make sure that everything is tidy when Kazu comes back. He says it’s the least I can do after I forced him to move so soon.”
“Mhm, he’s not wrong, and you know he deals badly with change.”
Ohno snorted as Jun was right and wrong at the same time. To him, Nino was mostly a bit insecure about change and liked to know where to find things and how to get around, but he also liked small changes that stimulated his mind as long as it was not uncomfortable. But to be fair Nino was always more lenient towards Ohno than anybody else.
“Satoshi-kun?”
“Yes, what is it Jun? I promise I will call you when your precious friend is safely home again.”
“Of course you will, if only because otherwise I will strangle you. May I come over? I would bring groceries to make dinner. Something easy to warm up for when Nino comes home. He needs to eat and I can be sure that it’s something healthy that way.”
Ohno bit his lower lip as to not laugh out loud since it was typical for Jun to worry about such things. He sighed softly and closed his eyes.
“Of course, it can get late though.”
“I don’t need to wait until he comes back.”
“We have a guest room if otherwise…” Ohno left the rest of the sentence hanging and Jun hummed.
“Thank you,” he mumbled, and Ohno could tell that Jun was blushing.
“Also, pretty sure that I found some of your shirts and jogging bottoms in Kazu’s boxes,” he said with a smirk. Their friendship was amusing in Ohno’s mind but he found it also endearing.
“Jealous?” Jun asked and even if he sounded challenging Ohno could tell there was real worry in his voice. Something that now and then crept up in both men when it came to their relationship and Ohno’s relationship to his little wizard lover.
“Never, I know that Kazu only loves me. Okay, come over, I need to hang up now to get on with laundry or I won’t be finished when Kazu comes home. I want to make sure the bed sheets are fresh.”
“You are pampering too much. But I’ll be there in a bit.”
Ohno laughed out loud now because it was not as if Jun was any better at times like this and Ohno had at least the excuse that Kazu was indeed his lover and not only best friend slash brother.
He ended the call with a deep sigh though as his eyes wandered over his phone with no new messages from Nino and for a second his thumb hovered over the name of his lover but he knew that Nino would not answer and he was too scared to distract him if the phone was not on mute. He had to wait, even if it was hard.
A/N: FINALLY… Sorry I take so long lately. I’ll try to be better

Chapter Text
Ohno and Jun sat in the kitchen, both a cup of tea in their hands as they talked in calm voices about their moves and the new things that awaited them. Jun had much to talk about with his job where the first fittings were now over and Jun looked very much forward to working with the director and the rest of the cast.
“I am a bit nervous,” Jun said with a shy smile. It was the first big acting job he would take on. That was of course nerve-wracking, at least as far as Ohno could imagine. Ads were shorter and easier to film and for movies or dramas, Jun had so far only minor side roles often not appearing more than once or twice during the whole run. “I hope I won’t flunk it. Like the main character, I am supposed to carry the filming or something like that. I’m not sure I can do it, make everyone comfortable and stuff like that.”
“I think you’ll do fine. Being around you is very comfortable, and if you bring something nice to eat I am sure that everyone will be relaxed and happy around you.”
“You only say that because you love food,” Jun snorted and Ohno shrugged. Maybe that was partly true, but not completely. Jun was a very relaxing person to be around. Yes, he could be a bit pushy if things didn’t go well at first, but he always did his best and was fair to others and wouldn’t blow up easily when people around them made mistakes (at least as long as it was not the same one multiple times and it was starting to get frustrating).
Ohno opened to answer when they both stiffened and exchanged a look as the air in the flat changed slightly.
“He’s back,” Jun said and Ohno nodded with a relieved smile he couldn’t hide. He had been worried about his lover after all. He trusted Nino to know what he could handle and when to step back but that didn’t mean that accidents couldn’t happen.
“Yes.”
Jun chuckled and finished the tea, before putting the cup into the sink and standing. “I should take my leave then.”
“I won’t throw you out,” Ohno mumbled. “Pretty sure Nino wouldn’t mind.”
Jun shrugged. That might be true, but this was not his home and it was only fair if Nino didn’t get used to him being around in this vulnerable state. He also knew that Ohno had been anxious and probably would want to be around Nino without feeling as if he had to amuse Jun as a guest as well. “I just wanted to make sure he made it home safe. I know he is in capable hands with you watching over him. Make sure he eats.”
“Mhm… And take that potion I got.”
Jun nodded and grimace. “Good luck with that, he hates the taste,” he explained with laughter clear in his voice.
They both went into the living room, where Ohno suspected that Nino had ended up in and Ohno smiled when he saw the small wizard laid out on the sofa. His eyes were closed and he looked paler than usual, a clear sign of his exhaustion, but he was in one piece and that was what mattered right now.
Nino squinted his eyes open as he heard them coming close and a weak grin appeared on his face as he waved at Jun and tried to get up to greet them better.
“Stay there,” Jun scolded him and with a huff Nino let himself fall back. “I’m on my way home anyway,” he explained and Nino nodded. He waved again when Jun dropped his hand on top of his head and ruffled the already messy locks for a few seconds before saying his goodbyes and leaving them alone.
—
Ohno watched where Jun had stood for a moment longer until he turned around and looked back at Nino.
“I’m home,” Nino whispered and Ohno knelt beside him to kiss his lips.
“Welcome home.”
Nino grinned and put his arms around his neck to pull him a bit lower to be able to kiss him again. Nino sighed as he leaned against the headrest when he was happy to have reunited with his lover.
“How did it go?”
“Okayish… I didn’t destroy the home when it blew up but it was hard, almost escaped the protection circle, honestly.”
“My brave strong wizard,” Ohno said. “Tired?”
“Mhm… I almost teleported to the wrong home. Can you imagine the shock if I had appeared in the middle of strangers?”
“They would have thought how cute you looked, but I would have been very jealous,” Ohno teased, making Nino smile.
“You never have any reason to be jealous,” he said instead of calling Ohno’s lie out. They both knew that Ohno was normally not like that. “I love you.”
“I know. I love you too. Come on, let me take care of you?”
“I’ll be fine,” Nino mumbled. “Just sleep.”
“You can sleep as long as you want,” he promised. “Let me first take care of you. You deserve to be pampered a little after the hard work.”
Nino hummed but allowed Ohno to drop another kiss on his cheek before Ohno left to reheat the food Jun had made for him and brought it together with the potion to the younger man.
“I’m not drinking that,” Nino grumbled as he wrinkled his nose and sat up. “Jun did make that?”
“Mhm… He wanted to make sure you are properly fed after today. He doesn’t trust me to feed you.”
Nino’s lips twitched. “You fell asleep last time, he reminded him. Pretty sure Jun still has nightmares about that.”
“You put out the fire and the smell was gone fast.”
Nino giggled and made grabby hands for the food, as he could tell it was his favourite soup with meatballs. Easy to eat and very comforting and warming from the inside. Ohno tutted and held it out of reach as he waved the potion in front of Nino.
“First you need to drink that. It’ll help with the fatigue tomorrow.”
“It’s disgusting,” Nino said with a pout at the herbal scent he already could smell from where he was sitting.
“Poor baby. Do it for me? We can have more fun tomorrow that way. And you have that very yummy food to take away the awful taste. I can also kiss it away if that would be better.”
Nino grimaced at that thought. As much as he loved Ohno’s kisses he didn’t think that would be possible.
“I should feel offended,” Ohno snorted and held out the bottle again. “I prepared a bath and can massage your back after you have eaten. But first this.”
“Bully,” Nino whined but then took the bottle to drown the liquid as fast as possible. The bitter taste hit the back of his throat making him almost choke on the taste and Ohno chuckled as he pushed a strand of hair behind his ear and offered him the plate for Nino to eat.
Nino sighed and pulled his legs up under him as he accepted the plate and started to eat. “Yummy,” he whispered. “J is the best.”
“I’m glad,” Ohno said and patted his knee before getting up. “I prepare the bath.”
“Uhn,” Nino said and moved his hand in a dainty wave as he ignored the older for his food. Ohno shook his head in amusement, murmuring something about jealousy to hear Nino’s bright laugh as he did as promised.
When he came back Nino had finished the food and Ohno was sure that he was halfway to dozing off when he cleared his throat and Nino twitched in surprise, his eyes wide as he didn’t recognise Ohno for a second. He relaxed soon after and held out his arms for the other to pick him up.
“Carry me?”
“Everything for you,” Ohno said, picking him up and carrying him to the bathroom. He tutted when Nino murmured something and his clothes were gone. “I was going to take them off for you,” he complained. “No magic, mister. You’re already tired.”
“Mhmm, it’s easier,” Nino mumbled in a way that Ohno hardly understood. Ohno kissed the top of his head and put him to the floor so that the other could climb into the tub with his help.
“Massage now or in bed?”
“In bed,” Nino mumbled, leaning back with closed eyes and Ohno agreed calmly as he stayed beside him to make sure he was not drowning but getting clean. After he was sure that Nino was relaxed and cleaned he helped him out, dried him and brought him to the bed to caress him with small kisses along the back as he looked for the favourite massage oil of Nino and started to work out the small knots and residue of stress that he knew accumulated in Nino’s body whenever he had to break a curse.
When he was sure that the worst parts were done and Nino had fallen asleep he laid down beside him and pulled him close to himself. He sighed as he buried his face in Nino’s hair breathing him in. He knew he would spend the night awake, holding Nino, watching him make sure that he was really in one piece, thanking every deity that they brought his lover back safely into his arms.

Chapter Text
“Remind me again, why am I the one cooking if you invited me?” Jun asked from the kitchen, while Nino was busy smashing buttons as he played his latest game.
“Because you like cooking, compared to us. And you would only complain most of the time because the things we decide on to cook or order wouldn’t fit your current diet. I am not as up to date to your dietary preferences as I was when we lived together.”
“Not that you cared then.”
“Hey! I made sure your stuff was still in the fridge and we were always stuck up for your favourite drinks,” Nino complained, cursing when he almost died as he pouted.
“Whatever,” Jun snorted, shouting in surprise when the cupboard opened and a cup flew out. “Nino!”
“What, I’m thirsty,” the wizard said, giggling as he stopped the game and stood to go to the kitchen. He stood in the doorway, watching Jun move in the kitchen only half as secure as he had in their shared flat.
It was strange to see Jun in his kitchen, he thought. It was strange and still very comforting, but he had gotten used to sharing this place with Ohno, dancing around to silly music while they cooked dinner together. It was nice to be around his boyfriend and lover most of the day as they both worked from home.
Nino was back to his work from home, reading about curses and sending his findings to the office to see if someone needed to do a spell break and how hard it would be. As much as he loved the thrill of trying to break the curse, without bursting up himself, he also enjoyed the much calmer times.
Ohno was planning his next trip to take pictures, this time at least not at a dangerous place. But then again, the last one had also been meant to be natural pictures without a disaster that he ended up covering. But Ohno also thought about doing some painting again for a change so maybe Nino should convince him to do that instead. He would feel more comfortable with Ohno being around for a long time until he felt completely settled here.
He winced when Jun tweaked his nose and rubbed it as he glared at Jun. “Where are you with your thoughts?”
“Thinking about binding Ohno to the bed,” he snorted, smirking when Jun looked outright disgusted at the mental image.
“I didn’t need that image.”
“And I bet you wouldn’t have wanted it either? What did you want?”
“To know when Ohno is arriving?”
Nino’s eyes wandered to the clock at the wall in thought and then shrugged. “In around fifteen minutes. He should already be back but I made him buy snacks and beer.”
“Fearful you wouldn’t like the food?”
Nino shrugged but then shook his head. He knew that Jun had chosen their meal to be something they all enjoyed. Jun was considerate like that. That was a reason why he had always loved living with Jun. Jun would never make something he couldn’t stomach. With Ohno, it could happen that the older forgot that Nino couldn’t take spices as well as him. In retaliation, Nino tended to forget that Ohno didn’t like cooked carrots. So it was not all bad.
“Not really, should I set the table?”
“That would be wonderful,” Jun said in a fake sweet tone and Nino stuck out his tongue as he moved his fingers, ignoring the swear from the younger man as the plates wandered to the table. Ah, he had missed Jun’s freak-out when he did such things. Ohno never was faded in the least but only commented on how neat his little tricks were. And as much as he loved that acceptance it could be boring.
He perked up when he heard the door open and skipped out of the kitchen, ignoring Jun’s call for him to at least pay attention to the dishes as he went to the door to kiss Ohno as a greeting.
“Hello, my love, I see you have fun with Jun-kun?”
“Dinner is ready. Did you get everything?”
“Yeah, I even got your favourite brand of crisps. How about you go back and help, while I wash my hands.”
“Okay,” Nin chirped as he hopped away, much to Jun’s chagrin who yelled when the pot he was holding made its way to the middle of the kitchen table.
“Nino!”
“What that’s where it is supposed to be, right? And you didn’t burn yourself.”
“Yeah not thanks to you though,” Jun snorted as he gave up and sat on the chair that Nino had already explained would be his since Ohno and he always sat on the other two.
He opened a bottle of water and poured it in his glass as finally Nino brought the bowl with noodles to the table as well and wiped down the working space as he waited for Ohno to come in.
“Do you want wine J?”
“Mhm, that’s why I brought it. The red one please.”
“In that strange bottle?”
“Yes,” Jun said with a very impressive roll of his eyes. “It should be in perfect condition now to drink it.”
“What?”
Jun opened his mouth to start a lengthy explanation about what he meant when Ohno entered the kitchen to greet Jun and drop another kiss on to Nino’s temple.
“Stop giving Jun-kun a headache. He is our guest and you already made him cook our dinner.”
“Yes, yes,” Nino said with a small pout but finally poured the wine in three glasses and carried them over to the table as Ohno started to fill the plates with the pasta that Jun had made and small bowls with the side salad so that it wouldn’t get mixed with the pasta sauce.
“I’m looking forward to the first episode,” Ohno said with a chuckle. “And even if Kazu would never say so he is super excited. He was talking about nothing else but that you made it finally big.”
Jun threw Nino a look who was blushing and did not intend to participate in the conversation. But if Ohno’s chuckle indicated anything Nino had just kicked his lover.
“I’m sure you expect way too much,” Jun said, still thankful even if slightly flushed at the praise he was not sure if he deserved it even before they had watched anything.
“Nonetheless it is your first main role, so we are very happy and looking forward to it, right Kazu?”Ohno lifted his eyebrow and Kazu pouted but he nodded in agreement.
“Yes, and it’s not as if you wouldn’t sit home tonight watching the drama and judging yourself quite harshly. It is better to watch together and then we can agree to you being awful,” Nino said but it was clearly teasing. Nino was one of the most protective people for Jun after all and he wouldn’t even allow the man himself to belittle his J.
“That was not my intention. And what do you know about movies or dramas?”
“I am an avid watcher, so I can tell if it is interesting and good or not,” Nino answered and Ohno rolled his eyes as both of them continued to bicker throughout mouthfuls of pasta about who had more knowledge over movies and dramas. He chuckled as they argued about things they watched together and if the actors had been good or not or if the directors were assholes, reminding Ohno to never watch a movie together with them. At least not if he was looking forward to the movie at least.
He sighed happily at the perfect taste of the food that was accompanied perfectly with the wine Ohno had chosen as he watched the best friends talk and giggle as they finally came to some movie Ohno had no idea about but seemed to be at least so bad that it was hilarious.
“I think we should head over,” Ohno interrupted them as his eyes fell on the clock. “The drama starts in five minutes.”
Nino gasped as he cried that he hadn’t started the recorder yet and jumped to his feet to run to the living room to find the right programme and play around with their recorder to make sure to have a copy of the first episode for later review again.
Ohno rolled his eyes and motioned for the door. “You should go as well, wouldn’t want to miss the introduction of the news station. I will join you in a bit,” he said, already piling up the dishes and putting them away. He would poke Nino to make sure they landed in the dishwasher for tonight in one of the breaks if only to make him upset that he couldn’t discuss every little tidbit in between the first episode. He grabbed the snacks he had brought and two beers since Jun had taken a second glass of wine instead and settled on the sofa where he stretched out since both of the younger men were on the floor close to the TV, already muttering about the intro of the drama.
Nino was fully immersed in the story - not lying when he said that he watched a lot of dramas. It was not his favourite genre and he had to confess that some scenes made him slightly uncomfortable to bring them together with the sweet Jun he had known for all the years. But Jun’s depiction of Jun’s character was good. Maybe sometimes a bit annoying but it only showed how good Jun was to make it so believable.
Ohno slid out of the living room to clean up the kitchen - not having the heart to really disturb Nino with how excited he was - when the episode was over and he had congratulated Jun on the fun drama, to let the two gush and talk about the good and bad points of every actor and the first episode overall. He knew that Jun would stay the night, but it was cute to see them like that. After all, Nino would probably always stay Jun’s biggest fan.
Chapter Text
“What did your phone do to you?” Ohno asked as he entered the living room. Nino was sitting on the sofa, glaring down at his phone as if it was the cause of all evil in the world.
Nino groaned and threw it down on the sofa, crossing his arms in front of his chest with a grand pout on his face, making Ohno chuckle softly as he sat beside him. He poked him softly and smiled when Nino growled and moved away a tiny bit.
“So what did it do to you? Bad news? Lost in your game?”
“Nothing,” Nino grumbled with a sigh after a second after and buried his head against Ohno’s shoulder when the older man put his arm around him to draw him close. He caressed his side in long strokes and kissed the top of his head.
“For nothing, you are brooding a lot, mh? Tell me, I worry if you are in such a bad mood.”
Nino rubbed his nose against his shirt and wrinkled his nose a second after as he buried further into Ohno still. “You smell of paint remover.”
“Could be because I was painting before coming in,” Ohno hummed. “Should I feel bad?”
“Yes,” Nino grumbled and buried his nose more into his shirt, giggling softly when Ohno grumbled playfully and pretended to get up to leave him for a shower. In truth, this smell reminded him how Ohno had been when they first had met and how he had fallen in love with the older man. He would always like this Ohno very much.
Ohno dropped a kiss on top of his head, before forcing his face up and rubbing his nose against Nino’s nose. “I love this smile a lot more on your face than the unhappy frown. Still, will you tell me what you worried about?”
“It really is nothing, I am just… I don’t know. I was writing to Jun, trying to get him to come over again, but he is always cancelling our plans and says he is busy. I get that the drama is hard, but… I haven’t seen him for almost two months,” he whispered, his ears slightly red, betraying how embarrassed he was about that commission.
“You’re cute,” Satoshi said and rubbed his warm cheeks with both hands to kiss him on the lips again. “But I get that you feel lonely. I didn’t have much time for you as well. So how about I go wash up and then take you out for a date?”
“Sorry, I’m childish you don’t have to leave just because of me.”
“But I want to spend time with you,” Ohno said with a soft chuckle and dropped another kiss on the tip of his nose. “But I would love a shower first. Then I will take you. Do you have a special wish where we should go?”
Nino smiled happily but shook his head at the question. He had no real plans. Hell, he didn’t even like going out but with Ohno, it would be fun. Just because he was with the other.
Nino looked at his phone again and for a second thought about leaving it there but it would be sad if Jun would use that time to call him and he couldn’t answer it. He pocketed it after he changed to warmer clothes. It was almost winter now and it was cold outside, especially since Nino tended to keep the heating up high so that he and Ohno didn’t get cold even in comfortable shorts and t-shirts. For Nino, too thick clothing felt restricting for him and never felt good. And even if he was not happy with the extra costs Ohno always would indulge him.
Everything as long as it meant that both of them were comfortable. With Jun it had also been easy since Jun liked warmth more than anybody else Nino knew.
He groaned as his mind went back to Jun and he hid in front of the bathroom door to surprise Ohno with a kiss the moment he left the bathroom. Ohno blinked in surprise but then ended up laughing softly and kissed his lover once more. “Already impatient.”
“No,” Nino said, his nose high up in the air and then laughed when Ohno squeezed his cheeks.
“I’ll be right back. I decided where we should go.”
“And that is where?”
“Surprise?” Ohno said, dancing away from the probing fingers of Nino as he hid in the bedroom to finally change. When he came to the front Nino was bundled up in a coat and boots and Ohno offered him a hand with a smile.
Nino grinned and took his hand in his own, intertwining their fingers and letting Ohno lead the way with a loving tug. Nino took a deep breathe the moment the fresh air hit his face. It felt nice and cool, and as if it brought new energy to his body. He knew he should go out more often. It was good for his mind and body as it fed in a way from fresh air and sunlight. It was just that he detested it so much. It was only with Ohno or for his work that he actually went outside on his own. It did help that their new apartment had a balcony though. He sometimes sat there on one of the big cushions Ohno had bought them and took a nap or played a game. That was an improvement.
Ohno looked at his lover and put an arm around his waist as he led him first through the nearby park, watching as the leaves turned their colours and staying at the fountain for a while to watch the water. Ohno kissed the now slightly red cheek.
“You look better already.”
“Mhm… I feel a bit like a plant right now,” Nino snorted. “And your comments don’t make it better.”
“Well, you are kinda a plant, my dear. You need food and water and sunlight. But I do so as well. So maybe I am a plant as well. We are both plants. What kind of plant would you like to be?”
“What?”
“I think I would love to be a tulip, they are pretty but not too expensive or special. I think you would be a rose.”
“What are you talking about?”
“A yellow rose, not too ordinary, very pretty and prickly if not handled right. Yes, that would fit you well. But if you are a rose and I am a tulip we can’t be together… that sucks.”
Nino giggled at the thoughtful expression of the other and shook his head. “I have no idea what is going on in your head but for sure you need to be something that can be close to me. Because without you I won’t be able to live,” he said more seriously than needed maybe. But it was the truth after all.
“Better not be plants then,” Ohno hummed. “It’s good as it is now.”
Nino nodded mutely because it is way better this way now. He rubbed his nose a bit embarrassed and Ohno took both of his hands in his own to kiss the upturned nose.
Nino smiled and tugged him away from the fountain, getting cold with standing here all the time.
“I love you,” Ohno said.
Nino smiled brilliantly at the sudden words, never being able to get enough from them. “I love you as well. Let’s continue. I demand to be fed on this date.”
“Sounds like a good plan. I think I know which restaurant we could visit. We haven’t been there for a while,” Ohno said, tugging him along.
Nino followed him willingly only slowing his steps when he realised that Ohno was leading him to the small district where most wizards lived. “Cheater,” he said.
“No cheating. I remembered we need a few things as well, and we weren’t at Aiba’s place for a while. Nor your mother’s so you can pick which food you would prefer more right now.”
Nino pouted but allowed Ohno to choose the special herbs that Nino needed for some potions and creams he made. Ohno knew almost better than he did what he needed and what not since Nino was just not that careful about stuff until he ran out.
“I think Aiba is safer,” he said in the end. His mother would only complain he didn’t call her first. A sudden wish to see her and eat her food flooded him and he closed his eyes. “But we should go visit at the weekend,” he decided, his fingers playing with the phone in his coat pocket for a moment. He really should call her.
Ohno hummed in agreement and Nino couldn’t help himself as he kicked him slightly. Ohno was a cheating bastard sometimes when he thought it was time for Nino to connect with his friends and family again.
Chapter Text
Nino stared at the phone for a while not sure if he really should answer it or not. He was still mad that Jun had not answered any of his messages for a while or if he had it was very short and to the point. But he called now and… It was hard to stay mad when he wanted to know how Jun was doing and missed talking to him.
“Just answer,” Ohno said with a small chuckle and ruffled Nino’s hair as he moved from the kitchen to the bath to do the laundry. Nino had cleaned the floors, the living room and changed the bedsheets earlier so now it was Ohno’s turn to do the kitchen and bathroom together with laundry.
He had watched Nino for a while from the doorway as the young wizard had stared at his phone in contemplation and was now chuckling when Nino almost jumped in shock. “I was going to,” he grumbled and watched as Ohno entered the bathroom and made a point to close it with a thumb.
Nino stuck out his tongue, being sure that Ohno laughed just louder and then answered the call quickly before Jun would hang up.
“Hi,” he said slowly drawing his legs close to his body and hugging them with one arm. He was at a loss for words and not sure what he should say now.
“Hey, Kazu. How are you doing, any new curses you need to break?”
“Not right now, just some reading and information,” Nino mumbled and nibbled on his lower lip. “I spend a lot of time watching stuff, and playing games.”
“Do you enjoy the drama?”
Nino stayed silent for a while longer and then closed his eyes. “Ye…s,” he said and grimaced when Jun chuckled at the other end.
“I know you are not a fan of such romantic dramas.”
“Not really,” Nino said and wrinkled his nose. He liked some movies that were overly cheesy but only to watch with someone else to make fun of them. And watching a drama with kisses and other things where Jun that he knew so well acted in was very awkward. It was almost as if he watched his younger brother making out. “But your acting is good. I will watch it until the end. I know the rating count. I always told you, you would be good. I heard that some girls are already gushing about how cool and sexy you are,” he said with a small teasing tilt to his voice.
“Stupid,” Jun grumbled but Nino was sure that the other was blushing adorably red and he would be all flustered. It was always an adorable sight that only he was allowed to see so often.
“I’m only saying the truth. Satoshi would agree. We saw you on some magazine covers when we went to the city the other day. He dragged me out, telling me I was inside enough for a while. Pretty sure you are even in the other part of the city in the shops to find.”
Jun was grumbling and silent for a while and Nino moved on the sofa to get more comfortable.
“I’m proud of you Jun. You do well. There will be so many other offers.”
“I got asked to model for a fashion magazine.”
“Wow, your face will be everywhere,” Nino said. “I won’t buy your magazines though. That is creepy.”
“It is,” Jun agreed. “And expensive.”
“Oh, now you brag, huh?”
Jun laughed softly and fell silent again for a second longer. “Hey, are you free on Friday evening?”
“Mhm… Yeah, I think so. But it might be the date night with Satoshi if he planned something,” he said wiggling his eyebrows at the sleepy-looking man that left the bathroom again, looking slightly questioningly and Nino patted the spot beside him so that Ohno would come over.
“Date night?” Ohno asked and kissed the side of Nino’s mouth. “Hey Jun!” he said more loudly to be heard by the other and Nino grimaced when Jun shouted back.
“I’m deaf,” he said with a frown.
“Sorry Kazu,” both said and Nino shook his head in amusement.
“But Ohno-kun would be invited as well, of course. It has been a while since I saw you,” Jun said in the end and Nino hummed as he looked at Ohno.
“Jun asked if we are free on Friday night.”
Ohno shrugged but then nodded. “Sure,” he answered and Nino patted his head lovingly.
“Satoshi said there is no date night planned. So we are free.”
“Nice, come over to mine at around seven pm? I will prepare dinner.”
“Sure, looking forward to seeing you,” Nino said and Jun cleared his throat as he said that he felt the same.
—
“Nervous,” Ohno, just slightly teasing. He was surprised when Nino blushed at the words and hugged him around the shoulders to squeeze him slightly. “Hey, what is wrong?”
“I don’t know. I feel strange,” Nino whispered, he furrowed his brows as he stared at the door of Jun’s apartment. Jun had already buzzed them in and up to the right floor and they were now waiting for him to open the apartment door. Nino wrinkled his nose and looked at Ohno. “Probably because it is very seldom that I don’t meet up with Jun for a long time. We always met up and just chilled.”
“That’s true. You’re cute when you see friends again after such a long time,” Ohno teased. Their dinner at Aiba’s family restaurant had been adorable.
Nino had blushed at first and been very silent for a long time when Aiba had served them. Aiba had been so happy to see Nino and teased him when they came in and had not allowed the younger wizard to order anything but decided to prepare their childhood favourites even if they were not on the menu.
After that he had sat with them, taking his break early for the night and Satoshi had spent most of the night watching the two friends talking and laughing, and sharing their childhood experiences. Aiba and Nino had been best friends before Nino had to visit the human school and even after they had been close. Never again as close as Nino was with Jun now but Ohno knew that Aiba was a reason besides his own family why Nino never had stepped fully away from his wizard community. And even if Nino had glared at him threateningly Ohno had not hidden his wide smirk when the friends promised to keep more in touch and meet up for game nights.
Nino stiffened when the door opened and Jun was slightly dishevelled in front of them. He blinked, but then followed Ohno’s leading arm inside. “Hey,” he whispered, forcing a smile on his face.
“Hi, nice to see you. It’s good to see you made it on time.”
Nino snorted at the words. They mostly made it on time. Nino knew how horrible Jun could be if they were late and if Jun made them dinner he didn’t want to suffer the wrath that came with being late.
Nino still felt a bit strange being in the flat and when he picked up sounds coming from inside, he narrowed his eyes. “You have a visitor,” he realised.
Jun had the grace to blush as he looked down in slight embarrassment. Nino wanted to tease him but he felt wrong without being able to tell why exactly.
“Yeah, please be nice? I ACreally like him and we just got together. I want to introduce you to him and the other way around.”
Nino grimaced but nodded when Ohno squeezed his hips. He flinched slightly and forced another smile on his face, sure that he was just freaked out because it was a stranger here and he had not been prepared for that.
“Sure I will be my charming self,” he said then, smiling softly when Jun looked relieved and happy at his promise. It was hard to do anything else with how nervous Jun had been. After all, he always wanted the best for everybody close to him.
Chapter Text
Ohno watched Nino walk home swiftly after the evening with Jun and his boyfriend. A man that seemed to be nice, but Ohno was not sure he remembered the name of him. It was super confusing for him as he normally was good with that. But Nino had been twitchy all evening after he had put eyes on Jun’s date the first time.
The smile on his face had been fake most of the time and Ohno could tell that there was something wrong with his lover as Nino sat on his hands most of the evening as they had sat in the living room after the dinner where Nino had made small talk, pointedly not talking about his work and life, as he had chatted with Jun about his drama and then asked about how they had met. It was easy to lure Jun into talking about his relationship and how happy he was.
Ohno had put his arm around his lover, caressing his side with comforting strokes and Nino slowly relaxed, but it was clear to Ohno that he stiffened the more he observed the boyfriend, but he was still very charming and Ohno was slightly proud of him.
Now though he was stomping on their way home, Nino was way too worked up to take a cab home. The walk helped him to let off some steam that he had and Ohno watched him almost bemusedly.
“I hate him,” Nino said, stopping suddenly in the middle of the park. Ohno chuckled and opened his arms to allow the other to stomp over to him and almost fall against him. Ohno closed his arms around his small wizard lover.
“I would never have guessed,” he teased him.
Nino bit his shoulder where he had buried his face against. Ohno laughed out loud and squeezed him more tightly. “He is awful. He wants to use Jun, I am sure. He is not in love with Jun. He doesn’t deserve Jun! Jun is great.”
“He is,” Ohno agreed warmly and swayed them from side to side. “But Jun likes him a lot.”
“He does,” Nino said, his voice almost inaudibly as he wished he could crawl more deeply into the warm hug. “But Jun only deserves the best, and that is not that guy.”
“You don’t know that. You only met them today.”
“Because Jun spends all his time with him instead of me!”
Ohno giggled and Nino wormed his arms around the other man. He closed his eyes and breathed in his scent.
“Are you getting jealous now?”
“Of course not,” Nino snorted. “I would gladly let him spend all of his time with someone that deserves him. Not all of his time of course.”
“You should give him a chance.”
Nino sighed and closed his eyes for a second, his fingers clinging to his shirt. There was a strange feeling coming over Ohno as Nino tightened his arms, even more, whispering something against Ohno’s collar bone and a second later they found themselves in their apartment. Nino sighed and Ohno pinched his side softly.
“You okay?”
“Uhn, that was child’s play,” Nino said giggling when Ohno tickled him. Ohno sighed and kissed him very sweetly, cupping his cheeks and caressing the sensitive skin under his eyes.
“Kazu, I know you worry. But the man seemed okay to me.”
“I got a very awful feeling when I was around him. I can’t help it,” he mumbled.
“I understand it, I could see it well, I am also very sure that Jun realised, your acting was a bit stiff.”
Nino rolled his eyes and furrowed his brows.
“You tell me I overreacted?”
“I tell you, that you should take a bit more time, you were surprised that Jun had a guy over. His boyfriend even at that that he never told you about. That is a big change. You hate changes, and you hate meeting new people. I am sure you were all over the place with your mind. Even before Jun invited us over to his place because you missed your best friend so much.”
Nino wrinkled his nose, punching Ohno weakly who just took it with a laugh and caught his hands in his own. He interlaced their fingers and looked into the pretty eyes that he had fallen for right away. If Ohno had been as stupid as so many classmates he would have wondered if Nino had bewitched him to make him fall for him, but Nino had been shy and careful around him. In no way trying to get Ohno to fall in love with him. In fact, without Jun’s interception and meddling Ohno was sure that he would have never been able to catch his little wizard.
“You can’t deny that you were fearful that with Jun living on his own, meeting new people he would forget about you. And I know you were sure it was correct when he got so busy that it was hard for him to keep in contact.”
“Jun had to get used to his new stardom,” Nino mumbled, but the argument was weak as he had been so sure that now that Jun was so well known he would be not interested to stay close to him. He was a nobody, nothing special. Nino would never be able to compete with all the other stars and idols Jun knew now, and he told himself that he was okay with it.
Sometimes though he was not so sure if that was the truth or not. He hated feeling like that. He liked to have the people close that were important to him, and as much as he loved that Ohno was close to him all the time now, he would have preferred it if Ohno had moved into the flat that he had shared with Jun. He knew that he needed to be an adult and that it was not healthy to be so dependent on another human being, but it was super hard to get used to it. He waited all the time until something would happen, just so that he would not be surprised when things turned bad.
He deflated and Ohno rubbed his back.
“Give him a chance.”
“You don’t even remember his name,” Nino accused and Ohno smirked.
“I was preoccupied to make sure you won’t blow up,” he teased.
“Liar,” Nino said and Ohno tugged him closer at their intertwined hands. Nino stumbled against him and Ohno put a kiss on top of his nose.
“What would you say about a bath together?”
“I want to choose the temperature.”
“Of courses.”
Nino smiled as he allowed Ohno to pull him through their home to their bathroom. “And I do realise that you are trying to distract me and make me relax.”
“Who? Little innocent me? Never.”
Nino looked at Ohno as he bent over the tub more than needed to open the taps and fill the tub. He giggled when his ships swayed playfully as Ohno put in bath salts that Nino found relaxing. Nino grinned as he snapped his fingers and soon after pressed against a now naked Ohno. Ohno smiled as he put his hands on top of Nino’s hands on his stomach and tapped a rhythm on it.
“If Jun asks me what I think about his boyfriend I won’t lie, but I won’t go there and tell him to break up right away.”
“That’s fair.”
“But I will if I think that he is going to break Jun’s heart. And I still don’t think he deserves Jun’s love.”
“Also fair.”
Nino smiled and kissed the back of his neck with a hum. He hated sometimes that Ohno understood him so well and seemed to be able to manipulate his emotions so easily. But he also couldn’t deny that it was a very comforting thing to know.
Chapter Text
“You sure you are not interested to accompany me?” Ohno asked for the umpteenth time and Nino groaned as he forced himself to sit up and look at his lover with a frown.
Ohno chuckled and went closer to the other. He cupped his cheek and kissed his forehead. Nino had been nursing a nasty headache most of the morning. Still, Ohno had wanted to make sure he wouldn’t decide otherwise. It was partly because some days when Nino had a headache it helped the other to leave the house later on the day but he supposed not today.
“Okay, then I’ll leave you on your own. Take care and drink something.”
“Uhn, I’m not invalid. So don’t worry. I can be on my own for a bit without getting worse.”
“I know. But I don’t like to leave you when I know you don’t feel well.”
Nino smiled at the pout of the other and closed his eyes a bit when Ohno caressed his temple for a second before finally letting him go. “Bring me something nice,” Nino asked then.
“Chocolates?” Nino nodded with a happy smile and Ohno put another kiss on top of his lips and then made sure the blanket around Nino was tight.
Nino giggled but diligently lied back on the sofa and got comfortable where he was, already half closing his eyes before Ohno fully turned around to leave him alone and do the grocery shopping they still needed to do to last for the rest of the week. They had planned to do it together and decide what to eat during the trip but he trusted Ohno fully to decide on dishes that they both would enjoy. He just felt a tiny bit bad that Ohno would have to carry it alone, but he had made sure to secretly enchant his bags so that it should be okay even if Ohno would scold him once he realised that he had used magic when he had felt so awful.
But in the end, it was just a headache, nothing that rest and sleep wouldn’t be able to heal. And he was sure that Ohno would bring painkillers back with him. So he would be fine then the latest.
Nino was woken up a while later by the ringing of their phone, breaking through the silence and making the raging headache worse for a second in a way that his vision turned fussy. He rubbed his head with a small sigh, before moving the blankets back and reaching for his phone as it wouldn’t stop ringing, much to his annoyance.
“Ninomiya speaking?” he grumbled slightly and pulled the blanket more over himself again.
“Hi, Nino! It’s me Jun.”
Nino bit his lips and tried hard not to make any sound. Of course, it was Jun. He needed to keep calm, he thought with a frown. Today was the worst day after the double date thing or whatever it was they did. Being calm and hiding what he thought was already hard with Jun and then being cranky at being woken up and the headache in general… not a good mix.
“Ah J…” he said and then trailed off since he had no idea what to say otherwise.
“Why so silent?”
“I have a headache all day already. Oh-chan is out getting food and medicines,” Nino said, hoping that it would mean that Jun would hang up. He was very insecure about what to do right now. He shouldn’t be, he knew but it was hard. Jun was such a dear friend and he just wanted the best for him.
And he just didn’t like his date. He couldn’t help it.
“Oh pity. I hope you feel better soon.”
“Thank you,” Nino mumbled already ready to end the call when Jun cleared his throat slightly. A clear sign that he was nervous and Nino knew he wouldn’t be able to hang up now.
“Thank you for coming. You were very silent that evening. Did you already feel bad then? We could have rescheduled.”
“No… You know I can’t deal easily with strangers,” Nino said silently. “I like to be prepared.”
“I know but I would have chickened out,” Jun said with a chuckle. “I mean, it is like inviting the family.”
Nino blushed and hid his face behind his knees as he moved on the sofa restlessly. “I don’t think it is that serious,” he said and bit his lips. “You like him?”
“Yes,” Jun said, and he sounded way too dreamy in Nino’s opinion.
“Did you enjoy the evening at least?”
Nino stayed silent and then sighed. “The food was great, and it was nice to see you again.”
“But?”
“Mh?” Nino hummed, acting dumb and playing with the blanket slightly to calm down.
“Nino, what do you think of him?” Jun’s voice was low and almost warning but Nino knew he couldn’t lie to Jun. He would never be able to even if that meant hurting the other man.
“I don’t know… I just met him…” he tried to avoid still. “And we didn’t do that much but talk about your job and how you met and…”
“Nino be honest.”
Nino nibbled his lower lip and then sighed. “I can’t tell, honestly. I don’t get why you like him,” he said in the end. “He doesn’t seem to be honest with his feelings for you. There was not a lot I could tell and very unbalanced.”
“You don’t know him!”
“I said so already!” Nino said a bit more loudly. “I don’t know him. But you pester me to tell. I don’t like him. I don’t think he is a good fit for you and that you deserve better than him. I don't know what his deal is.”
“I love him,” Jun said and Nino could tell he was unhappy. “I can understand that you don’t know him yet and that I splurged him on you which might have been unfair, but saying that he doesn’t love me is going too far. You have no idea what you are talking about!”
“You do remember that I have that stupid curse of being an empath right? I can tell what people feel. I am sorry. I feel like he has an ulterior motive or anything. I have no idea.”
“You are going too far. I am sorry for not meeting your expectations, but I think I should not call you again when you are feeling like that and think it is great to insult my boyfriends.”
Nino winced as Jun’s voice was so icy and he closed his eyes. “I just want the best for you and warn you to be careful. I care for you.”
“Well your way of showing it is not appreciated,” Jun replied and ended the call just seconds after without giving Nino the chance to answer.
Nino stared at the phone in his hand for a minute or two blankly before letting it fall to the floor and curling up under his blanket. His headache was worse than ever and it was this time accompanied by the feeling of having lost someone very dear and important to him. And he felt like the most awful person in existence as well.
To say he was surprised was the understatement of the century, Ohno thought as he entered their home way later than he had liked to - but there had been a line at the pharmacy and he knew that it was best to make sure to stock up their medicine cabinet to make sure they were settled for situations like today.
He had thought he would find Nino asleep on the sofa or maybe staring at their ceiling in silence. If he was feeling better then might be accompanied by music but Ohno didn’t count on that. To find Nino in a fetal position, under the blanket and crying.
“Kazu…” he whispered and flinched when there was a surge of energy coming from the other man, pushing him away.
“Go away,” he cried.
“You won’t succeed in pushing me away. I thought you already learnt that” Ohno said calmly but resolutely as he picked the crying bundle up and pulled him to the floor with him to hug the trashing man tightly. “What happened?”
Nino tried to get away but finally gave up exhausted and leant against his shoulder. “Jun called.”
“And the call didn’t go as planned?”
“I told him the truth,” Nino murmured.
“And I get that he didn’t like it?”
Nino shook his head mutely and sniffled. “He hates me now.”
“No, he doesn’t.”
“He said so.”
“Did he know?”
“He implied it heavily,” Nino murmured.
Ohno sighed and rocked him from side to side, kissing his temple. “I promise nobody will come between your friendship. But of course, he is hurt now. Come on, love, I brought pain killers, you should take it now, then lie down and later you can call and apologise.”
“You think that will help?”
Ohno shrugged and rubbed the tears from his cheeks. “It will be a first step.”
“I can’t just start liking him though.”
“I know.”
“And I am so sure he will hurt Jun. I don’t want that.”
“When it comes to that you will comfort him with open arms and without saying horrible things like Told you so.”
“I would never!”
Ohno smiled and nodded and patted his back lovingly before looking into his face. “Medicine?”
Nino nodded mutely and allowed Ohno to put him back on the sofa. “Not sure I deserve being taken care of now,” he murmured with a sigh.
“Good that I don’t care about what you think you deserve or not,” Ohno said and ruffled his hair. “Try to sleep.”
Nino nodded again and Ohno rubbed his forehead with a sigh after he was sure Nino was resting. He hoped they would figure it out together.
Chapter Text
Ohno observed Nino in silence. His little wizard was sitting on the sofa staring into emptiness with a small frown and pout on his face. Nino was very cute like that, but it still hurt Ohno to see him like that. Because he knew that Nino was still down about his argument with Jun.
Jun had told him in clear terms that he was not okay with meeting up right now and that they would take on a later date when he was ready. Ohno knew it was fair, and Jun had said that he did not hate Nino but was hurt by him. But not being able to meet in person left Nino helpless.
Nino relied heavily on the emotions of people around him. Ohno knew he was only secure if he knew for sure that the others told the truth. It was a gift and a curse for Nino to be an empath. It helped him to know if people were serious about their friendships and feelings, and the opposite (which could hurt) but some days Nino relied so heavily on it that there was no way he believed just words.
Words could be lies. He had learnt that when he had been little and had no knowledge of how to shield himself from any feelings towards him. The confusion about what was real and what was not had been hard for him. Ohno knew that. It was better now and Ohno would be happier if he knew that Nino could just trust their words for once.
He sighed and then stood from where he had meant to sort through his pictures to decide to which to send in for different magazines he did photography for and stretched out his back. A small smile on his face when his moves made Nino look up.
He held out his hand and chuckled when even with a deep frown Nino still took his hand and Ohno tugged him to his feed.
“What?” Nino asked carefully. He wrinkled his nose in distaste at being on his face and Ohno laughed out loud.
“I can’t concentrate. Come on, I want to go out and go to our favourite ramen stall!”
“That is on the other end of the city,” Nino whined as it was closer to his old home. The one that he had shared with Jun. There was a painful surge in his chest, but he pushed it away. Not now!
“A long walk will do you some good.”
“I look disgusting.”
Ohno didn’t argue as Nino had not showered today or yesterday but he tugged him closer to press his lips against the side of his mouth. “I love you.”
Nino fell against him and closed his eyes for a second at those words. “I know,” he whispered, putting his hand against Ohno’s chest, smiling when their skins warmed up at the touch. Ohno squeezed his shoulders and dropped a kiss on top of his head.
“Shower and then we go? I will treat you to your favourite curry Ramen with extra egg and Gyoza on the side?”
“Sounds good.”
“I know,” Ohno said with a smirk, dropping a kiss on Nino’s head when the other grumbled and hit him slightly. Nino sighed deeply but finally let go to get to the bathroom to take the said shower while Ohno looked for his wallet, only slightly laughing when a set of clothes flew across the hallway to the bathroom as Nino had forgotten about them before his shower.
“Oi! That’s my sweatshirt!” he shouted laughing though and Nino huffed.
“What is yours is mine as well.”
“Ah, I see. So yours is mine?”
“Of course not,” Nino snorted a few minutes later, leaving the bathroom now wearing fresh clothes with his hair still slightly wet. “You should not tinker with my belongings. It could end badly.”
“Will I lose a finger?”
Nino smirked and walked over to put his arms around Ohno’s neck. His eyes were dancing in amusement which made Ohno’s heart sing in happiness. He knew the sadness would probably come back later today, but he would take what he got.
“I think you should rather worry about other body parts,” Nino purred, his fingers dancing over Ohno’s body and then hovering over his crotch in the end.
“Little wizard, I won’t let you convince me to stay in. I want Ramen now and you need the fresh air and sun.”
“Meanie.”
Ohno snorted and dropped a kiss on top of his nose, ruffling Nino’s hair who glared at him and straightened it while also making sure it was finally fully dry. Ohno took his hand and then led him out of their home.
—
Nino swung their hands back and forth as they were slowly walking towards home after they had eaten both way too much. They were full, almost to a point of too much, but the food had been good. The restaurant had been considerably full when they arrived and entered and Nino was lamenting about how he was starving after the walk there.
Luckily it was easy to get two seats at the counter, as both didn’t care for too much space or a separate table. Nino was almost sitting halfway on top of Ohno in search of closeness and trying to give the people on his other side enough space to eat. Ohno didn’t mind their almost claustrophobic closeness, too used to meals sitting on each other's laps. The warmth radiating from Nino, the fires of the kitchen and the delicious warm broth was nice as well.
Ohno had looked as Nino’s cheeks had grown red due to the heat inside the stall, how his eyes had shone in happiness at the first sip of his favourite broth and the delighted hum when he took the first bite of his Gyoza, fully enjoying the slight sourness that Ohno had no idea how the chefs achieved it without making it too much.
They had eaten in silence, bathing in the sounds of conversations around them, the sounds of people eating and the clanging of pots and pans from the kitchen. It was enough to fill their senses and they enjoyed the silent bubble that was just them. The silence when they had stepped out of the restaurant had been almost deafening, but also freeing and Ohno had watched Nino stretch out the small of his back, before getting a hold of Ohno’s hand and then taking the path that would bring them back home. It was a long way, through the park, and Ohno decided not to say anything about it.
Their fingers were still intertwined loosely, swinging now between them and even if it was mostly only their fingers touching it felt very intimate, too precious to lose so Ohno was careful to be just close enough as to not lose their connecting but not too close as to tighten it.
“You know…” Nino said after a few more moments of silence and Ohno hummed in question, signalling that he was listening to Nino. Nino smiled as he glanced at Ohno, realising that Ohno’s full attention was still on him, and not on the things around them. Ohno often got distracted when they were out together. Nino’s hold anchored him to his lover as he allowed his mind and eyes to wander to worlds that Nino never was too sure he would be able to understand. But it didn’t matter, Ohno’s world was his world, Nino’s world was his own, and they had a world that was only theirs.
But today Ohno was fully present and Nino knew it was because the older man was worried, and he felt a bit sorry for it, but the feeling of thankfulness was much greater right now.
“You know…” he started again, his eyes on the path in front of him, “I wish I am wrong.”
“I know,” Ohno answered with a smile. That was one thing that he knew for sure. Nino would never wish for Jun to be hurt or be with someone that was not honest to him. Nino did not need to be right all the time. He had never problems saying he was sorry or at fault.
“I am scared to lose him over this.”
“Mhm…” Ohno said, following Nino as he took a few steps to the side, almost breaking their connection, but Ohno was fast enough to stop it from happening. “You won’t.”
Ohno knew that his promise was not enough. Not really at least. He could say it as often as he liked if Jun was not there to confirm it was not enough. Ohno had no idea why. Nino had never been burnt as far as he knew. It seemed as if the other had been born guarded and cynical. His lips twitched when Nino huffed in frustration. It was more to himself than anybody else. Ohno knew that as well.
Nino was not good at trusting others he was apart of for a while, not even Jun. Ohno was an exception of that which made him very proud even if he had no idea how he deserved that. But he had promised to trust the other and to wait until Jun was ready to talk to him again, and that was what he would do even if it was hard for Nino.
Ohno would accompany him all the way, he had already decided the first night they met that new boyfriend. He knew that the both of them would figure it out, even if it took a bit longer than either of them liked.
Chapter Text
Ohno observed his little wizard with a small frown on his face. Nino’s eyes were small and focused as he carefully put on his work clothes. As much as Ohno enjoyed watching Nino in full wizard attire, as much did he hate it. Nino didn’t like his wizard robes. He had never liked them since the early beginning. It had been one thing that made Nino hesitate to take the job he had studied so hard for, mostly because he had hated the different colours in school so much and what bullying it had brought onto him.
For Nino, it was just something more that separated him from the people around him. In their new home probably less than where he had lived with Jun before. They were closer to the wizard community but to be fair, most wizards wore normal clothes. Flowing robes, long sleeves were pretty to look at, but of course a bit unpractical for most things they did.
“Don’t frown,” Nino scolded with a chuckle in his voice. “It’s not like it is the first time.”
Ohno was brought out of his thoughts and he shook his head before he stepped closer to the other. His fingers traced the belt around Nino’s waist to tug him closer. He cupped his face in his hands and kissed his lips.
“I know, but I just thought how pretty you looked. I like the new uniform.”
“My mum made me buy it,” Nino snorted. Ohno giggled and put an arm around his waist to move with him from side to side for a bit. He nosed his cheek and pressed his lips against the side of Nino’s mouth.
“It is very pretty. You look so pretty I should be jealous of your clients.”
“It is just for show,” Nino said, the clear distaste in his voice for having to dress up for something like his work. Ohno didn’t care for his bad mood as he was not going to tell him that he didn’t like it.
“I wouldn’t mind being treated to an extra special show of you wearing this or maybe how you slowly lose the robes again,” he teased, laughing out loud when Nino pinched him and bit the hollow of his neck hard in retaliation.
“Let me go, you stupid man. Take the picture to make my mum happy and then I have to leave.”
Ohno sighed, getting serious again as he took the picture as promised and gave the phone back to Nino who typed out a message with a glare on his face and let the phone fall on the desk as he was done. He wouldn’t bring his phone with him for cases like this.
Nino put a hand through his hair, grumbling as the hairband got loose again. Ohno smiled and took it from his fingers to braid two parts of his hair to make sure they were out of Nino’s face later. He secured his work with the hairband and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
“I really think you should tell Jun you have to work today,” he said in the end and sighed when Nino’s face darkened.
“He doesn’t want to talk to me,” Nino said and shook his head. “And I should go.”
“Take care,” Ohno repeated, moving forward to kiss Nino deeply on his lips. He smiled when Nino took two steps back, a bit breathlessly.
“Love you. Don’t wait up.”
“Mhm… I planned to paint. You know I tend to forget the time then.”
Nino chuckled and nodded before he took another step back vanishing before his feet touched the floor fully.
—
Ohno sighed as he stared at his phone, he had promised himself not to get in between the quarrel that Nino and Jun had. But he knew that both were very stubborn and he knew that Jun would never forgive Nino if he didn’t know about the job.
He sighed and rubbed his forehead as he finally decided to call the youngest in their friend group. He apologised to Nino silently but knew that Nino would be okay with it in the end. It was one of the perks of being Nino’s lover. There was no way that the other would be angry at Ohno and if he was Ohno had enough ideas how to make it up and make Nino forget everyone and everything but Ohno.
“Yes, hello?”
“Jun are you crying?” Ohno asked surprised.
There was silence on the other end for a while and Ohno was patient as he waited for Jun to decide what to answer.
Jun breathed in shakily and then sighed. “Not right now,” he said in the end.
“Okay, I won’t pry but you know we are here if you want to talk. Especially Kazu.”
“He is angry,” Jun said and Ohno rolled his eyes.
“He is not, and you know it. He feels bad to have hurt you with his thoughts of your boyfriend.”
“Ex-boyfriend,” Jun mumbled almost inaudibly and Ohno felt his heartbreak for the other boy. Jun would deserve the world in his opinion. He was such a good friend to his lover after all, but Jun was hopeful, fell in love easily and strangely shy and bad in choosing who to give his heart to.
“I am sorry Jun…”
“Me too,” he said and Ohno could tell that Jun was close to tears again.
“Nino was right.”
“And I can promise you that he won’t be happy about it.”
Jun was silent for a while longer and Ohno looked at the table, carefully straightening the magazine with Jun on the cover. Nino had been on the hunt the last weeks to get every last one that had a snippet of the other in it and it had been one of the few reasons that he was able to get him to go out.
“I know,” Jun said in the end, his voice was very small, “but he didn’t call…”
“And you didn’t call. Kazu was hurt that you told him not to talk to you until he sees it differently. He doesn’t so he won’t call you to know him.”
“But why did you call me then?”
“Because…” Ohno bit his lower lip and wished he wouldn’t have called right now, it was hard to tell him, especially now. “Nino was called for an emergency job. He left earlier and I thought you deserve to know. It was your deal right?”
“To always tell the other when we have to do dangerous stuff,” Jun agreed with a frown. “He is gone then?”
“Yes.”
“Are you worried?”
Ohno didn’t answer as it was clear that he was worried. He was always worried and Jun knew that.
“I’m sorry. Can I come over?”
Ohno closed his eyes and thought it over for a second. On one hand, it would be nice to know that Jun was there. On the other hand, it might be unfair to Nino when he came home. But then again, sometimes Nino needed to be forced to his luck and he was always more honest if he was tired.
“Only if you bring food.”
“I will cook while you paint.”
“Deal,” Ohno said with a small chuckle. “Just come in the door will be open for you as always.”
The tiny thanks coming from Jun was again tearful, but this time Ohno was sure that it was accompanied by a very shy but also happy smile.
Chapter Text
Ohno didn’t look up from his painting when the front door opened. He knew it was not Nino who came home, but Jun. On nights like this Nino would be too annoyed or tired to travel home the usual way. It was costing him more power to teleport directly but it was fast and he knew that Ohno would take care of him as soon as he was here. There was no worry that he needed to be careful anymore once he was back.
A small sigh escaped the man and he shook his head at the thoughts running through his mind. It was stupid, really, to be worried about his lover. Nino knew what he could do and what he could not do. He would not have left if he was insecure about succeeding but studied more to find a secure solution for this curse. Even if it was an emergency job, Nino was not stupid.
“Do you want to keep standing there?”
“Sorry,” Jun said with a sigh. He sounded tired, small and not like the confident Jun he was used to. Ohno looked at him over his shoulder with a small smile. Jun moved his shoulders uncomfortably and a bit helpless. Ohno understood. He was not the person that Jun wanted to comfort him.
“It’s fine, feel welcome here. Don't worry about Nino.”
Jun nodded but stayed in the doorway for a second longer until he sighed. It was not easy to feel welcome if Nino and he didn’t talk, also as much as he liked Ohno, Nino was his best friend and the person he wanted to run to if he felt bad. He rubbed his face with another tired sigh and finally stepped inside fully.
He looked at the canvas that Ohno was focused on with a small frown. The colours were dark blue, violet with a bright yellow, almost white moon to the top corner. Its mirror was seen on what was supposed to be water with dancing cherry blossoms on the surface, dancing in the wind, belonging to a dark tree trunk at the side of the stream. Right now Ohno was putting white in the cherry blossoms on the tree.
Jun was silent as he observed the picture further. There were strokes on the bottom depicting figures and he was curious about how it would look once finished, but he would not be allowed to witness that today. That he knew.
“I brought things for pasta.”
“Mhm… Here I thought you would make hamburger steak.”
Jun smiled shyly and shook his head. “Nino would take that as me trying to bribe him. I wouldn’t want that.”
“Nino likes to be bribed,” Ohno said with a chuckle. “I get it though, and am looking forward to a nice dinner.”
“With Nino?”
Ohno shrugged and put down the paintbrush after he was happy with how the tree looked. “I guess we won’t know until he is here. He wouldn’t like it for us to wait for him, and I don’t know when he will be back.”
Jun sighed but nodded. “But I can stay?”
“Of course, I told you, you are welcomed here anytime. Nino wouldn’t say otherwise. I prepared the second bedroom if Nino comes home very late. He would not like it if I let you sleep on the sofa. And sorry, but not really, I won’t share the bed with you,” Ohno explained with wriggling eyebrows, grinning when that brought a weak, but clearly there, smile from the younger man. “Need a hand or two? I am sure I can spare them.”
“Aren’t you busy?”
“The layers need to dry and Nino is not here to wave his hand to dry it instantly. It’s very useful, you know.”
Jun snorted and shook his head. He would never understand how the both of them really worked. They did, and everybody could see it but it really was a mystery.
“Okay then,” Jun mumbled and turned around to go to the kitchen. Ohno followed with a low hum, just to turn around after he had entered the kitchen to go to the bathroom and then wash his hands to make sure Jun would not hit him when he prepared food with slightly dirty hands. He had not spied any rings but he was sure that it would still hurt.
—
Jun and Ohno had eaten late in silence and Jun had made sure to prepare a plate for Nino that he could warm up when he came home. After they had sat in the living room, mostly in silence, Jun still insecure in himself it seemed and Ohno had never been a big talker. He had Nino for that. He was also pretty sure that Jun would not even listen if he spoke.
It was nearing midnight when Jun’s body finally gave in to the tiredness that accumulated over the day and the stress over the breakup. Ohno chuckled softly because of that and he patted his head. Jun didn’t move so Ohno decided that it was time for him to go to bed. It was not the easiest task to carry him over, but he was used to it because of Nino, even if Nino’s body was smaller and therefore easier to carry. It helped, even if it worried him at the same time, that Jun weight almost the same as his little wizard.
Afterwards, he lay down on the sofa and stared at the ceiling, listening to the sound of the clock ticking away until it was close to midnight. He stood, stretching out his back. It was getting late and he knew that it was time to get ready for bed.
Ohno was not even halfway out of the room when the buzzing feeling came back and he realised that it was finally time for Nino to come home. A small smile appeared on his face as Nino appeared directly in front of him.
Nino’s eyes were unfocused for a second, then changed to confused and last to amused as he realised that Ohno was in front of him with now open eyes. He fell against him and Ohno swayed them for a second.
“I’m home.”
“Welcome home, love,” Ohno whispered.
Nino nodded and allowed Ohno to press a kiss against his forehead before he stiffened just slightly.
“Jun-kun is here.”
“Huh…” Nino said confused, slightly insecure.
“His boyfriend broke up with him.”
“Good riddance,” Nino said and Ohno poked his cheek.
“Better not tell him that. He is really sad.”
“I know,” Nino said with a sigh and rubbed his nose against Ohno’s cheek.
“Food?”
Nino slowly shook his head. He was not hungry.
“Sleep?”
“Uhn,” Nino mumbled.
“Exhausted?”
“Very.”
“You used too much magic again huh?”
Nino shrugged, maybe, maybe not. That was for tomorrow to judge. Ohno chuckled softly and kissed his temple, before prodding his side. “Then a toast and your beloved drink then bed.”
“Just bed,” Nino argued and Ohno tipped his nose as he shook his head.
“No can’t do. Shower as well?”
Nino shook his head and Ohno could tell that he had already cleaned up. Ohno nodded but still pushed him to the kitchen to force him to eat and drink before bringing him to the bedroom. Ohno carefully dressed him into sleepwear. He smiled and smooched his cheeks when Nino was comfortable and sleepy. “Bed?”
Nino nodded but then he hesitated, his eyes wandering to the wall where their second bedroom was and Ohno smiled as he lifted Nino’s chin to put a kiss on his lips. “Come here my lovely little wizard,” he whispered as he picked Nino up. The other didn’t struggle as he snuggled up against him and let Ohno carry him to the other bedroom. Soon enough Nino was snuggled up beside Jun, getting another kiss from his lover before Ohno left the two alone. Jun had cried in his sleep, no wonder that Nino had felt the distress that came from the other.
For tonight, even if Ohno would love to know Nino in his arms, he knew it would make for a much more restful night if the two friends were close and could comfort each other.
Chapter Text
Nino woke up early in the morning, feeling disoriented for a second. This was not his bed, the person beside him was also not Satoshi. For a second panic settled in his heart, confused as to where he was and what happened. Then though the body beside him moved and a muffled grumble tore itself from the other man’s throat.
Nino breathed out as he relaxed, realising that it was Jun. He was still tired, his limbs feeling heavy from the overuse of the magic the evening before. He wrinkled his nose in distaste as he tried to move and almost cried out in pain. So much for trying to stay silent, he thought as the body beside him moved, the breath of Jun stopping for a second before Jun opened his eyes sleepily.
Nino bit his lower lip to not smile softly as he saw the red-rimmed, puffy eyes from Jun peering up at him, clearly still half-asleep.
“Nino?” Jun asked hoarsely and Nino hummed in answer. Nino shifted slightly, groaning when his muscles protested. He sighed when he settled back against the cushions under Jun’s gaze.
Nino opened his arms invitingly without saying anything. There really was no need. It was so clear that Jun was so hurt that it came off in waves from the other. It hurt Nino to know that his best friend felt that way but there was nothing else he could do but offer comfort.
Jun hesitated just a second longer before he moved silently and sank into the embrace of the other. “We broke up… He cheated and…” His voice broke and Nino cradled the other in his arms, his fingers finding their way into Jun’s unruly locks.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered before humming a tone under his breath. “I promise, it’ll be okay again.”
Jun’s answering chuckle was wet against Nino’s shoulder as he didn’t answer anymore but just cling to the older man.
Nino leant back with a sigh as he closed his eyes, telling Jun silently to go back to sleep it was too early, he could tell, mostly because their apartment was too silent. Ohno was still asleep, and even if Nino missed the warm arms of his lover around him, he was thankful that Ohno had allowed him to stay here last night. His lover was the best he could ask for, he thought to himself, his feelings and emotions calling out to Ohno before he moved with a now very heavy Jun in his arms to go back to sleep once again.
—
The next time Nino woke up, Nino found himself in Ohno’s arms. He rubbed his eyes with a small grimace, his muscles still hurting slightly. Jun was gone, but when Nino was very still and listened he could hear sounds coming from another part of their home.
“Jun is making lunch. He made dinner for us yesterday but you came home so late… He said he wants to cook something fresh,” Ohno explained.
Nino nodded mutely, burying his face against Ohno’s chest, his nose rubbing the soft shirt Ohno wore. It smelled like his favourite scent, a mix of their laundry detergent, home and like Ohno.
“How are you feeling?”
“Sore,” Nino whined and smiled when Ohno cooed and rubbed the small of his back.
“Poor baby. Are you hurt anywhere? I couldn’t really check you tonight.”
Nino stayed silent for a bit, thinking the question over and Ohno kept his arms securely around him, waiting patiently for an answer.
“I’m fine, I was a bit stupid and stumbled over a stone when I dodged an attack and twisted my ankle, but the medic got to me before I came home.”
Ohno hummed in understanding and cradled him a bit differently to sway them from side to side. It was seldom that Nino was clumsy enough to get hurt but he knew better than to comment on that. Nino had been out of it since his argument with Jun and he hoped that was over for now, and won’t ever happen again.
“I can massage you later.”
“I would like that.”
“I might also chain you to the bed for the rest of the week.”
Nino grimaced, but his eyes were sparkling in amusement. “Maybe not for all week, and I might actually be up for it.”
“Brat,” Ohno chuckled, smiling when NIno giggled against him.
A few minutes until Nino had calmed down again and moved with Ohno’s help so that he was face to face with Ohno. He looked into his eyes for a while, before his arms circled Ohno’s neck, his legs finding their place on either side of Ohno’s waist, as his fingers caressed the nape of his neck slightly. He was so so lucky, he thought when Ohno just looked back, a warm look on his face and Nino soaked in the love coming from Ohno.
“I love you, you know? I really do.”
Ohno chuckled and cupped his cheek with one of his hands, his thumb tracing the thin lips. “I should hope so, my beloved wizard.”
Nino blushed slightly. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was with his Ohno. He would have never thought he would end up like that, and at times like these when he witnessed how not everybody was as lucky as he was, he couldn’t help being thankful.
“Silly,” Ohno decided after another moment of silence between them. Nino pouted slightly, as Ohno chuckled and moved their faces closer together to press his lips against Nino’s in a loving kiss, pouring everything in it, just because he loved seeing Nino breathless and blushing like that.

Chapter 20: What happened in the past
Chapter Text
Nino was silent, biting his lips hard as he slipped through the hallways. There were tears in his eyes that he tried his hardest to not let fall. He didn’t want to give anybody the satisfaction of seeing him cry. He didn’t want them to see how much it affected him to be here.
He wanted to go already home! He hated this school, he hated the humans and he understood why most of his kind would stay with other wizards. He slipped into the empty music room, after reaching out with his powers to make sure it was really empty. He liked that room, it was peaceful, and it smelled like music. Something that Nino loved.
He closed the door, being careful so it didn’t make any sounds and walked over to the small piano. It was not fully against the wall so he could hide between it and the wall and he sighed in relief when he finally dropped to the floor and pulled his legs close to his body, hugging them with his arms and hiding his face behind his knees.
It hurt. Nino hadn’t thought that it could ever hurt to be so close to other people. He was always careful, always insecure with groups, and had a hard time entangling all emotions around him. It helped to be at home a lot. His mother was always a calming entity around him, helping him to create the needed walls around him. But it was exhausting with so many people around him.
Especially with so many people fully focused on him. He stood out in this school. He was the first wizard kid in ages at this school, he hated that he had a special school uniform colour that nobody else had. He didn’t understand why that was, maybe to make sure he wouldn’t be able to use any magic during classes or his time here. As if that would be a problem!
He had sworn to not do it, and it wouldn’t help him with school work anyway. He was not someone who would break promises, even if he hadn’t wanted to come to this school. He enjoyed being at home all day, learning from his mother the most important things needed and then going out in the afternoon to meet with his friends. Never too much at once but his best friend was always his first choice. Aiba was like an excited puppy, and that was fun and not hurting or scary or uncomfortable feelings.
He sniffled slightly when he remembered his home. He wanted to go home. He didn’t like it here, and he tried so hard to fit in. He was nervous, yes, but he had tried to greet the others, to be kind and help out if needed, but it was impossible it seems.
The others made fun of his sweater because it was too big on his frame and yellow, which apparently was not cool. They were not trusting him and whenever something happened they always said it was his fault. Nino tried hard to ignore them, tell them that he did nothing when teachers called him out, and stay polite, but it was hard.
Then after the first week, the name calling started, calling him the wrong name, and making fun of his size, which was so confusing to Nino. He was neither the smallest nor the biggest person in his year, he had a normal haircut, as his mother had cut his hair before coming and the only difference really was the stupid colour of his uniform.
And he had liked the yellow at first! It was one of his favourite colours and now he started to dislike it. He moved slightly and hissed when he hit his elbow against the piano. He had just managed to flee from the worst of the bullies before, that were shoving him around, trying to get a raise out of him.
Nino wished he would be able to use his magic. It would be so easy to keep them away that way, but he didn’t want anybody to be disappointed in him. He closed his eyes, breathing in deeply. It would have been so easy to hurt them back, but that was forbidden. And he would not leave a bad impression on humans. He would do his very best. He really wanted to be allowed home though. But the adults would tell him that he would have to ignore the other students and then it would go away soon.
But it was hard and stupidly exhausting. When he was tired everything was just harder. Kazu bit his lips as he hid a bit more in his corner when he could tell that there were people outside in the hallways.
He sighed when they left and checked his watch. It was time for his next class and he really really didn’t want to go. The dislike was so awful to live through. He rubbed his cheeks and eyes dry and breathed in and out for another few seconds before stepping to the door when it suddenly opened.
Nino shrieked as he jumped back in shock, his eyes wide and his hands almost up in the air to protect himself from whatever.
“Ah, found you,” the stranger said, almost a small chuckle in his voice.
The reaction stopped Kazu in his tracks and he blinked. His mouth dropped open as he stared at the other boy. He had never seen him before and his stance went back to defensive for a second but it was a weak try. He somehow felt safe, which he was not used to here at this school.
Jun was a good kid, he guessed. He talked normally to Nino and was kind in contrast to the other kids in his class. He was also the reason that Nino could run away earlier because he had called out angrily at the boys shoving him to stop them.
“Huh?” he said in the end when the other boy closed the door and took his hand. Nino flinched close to pulling it away because he really didn’t like to be touched by strangers, but the second their fingers touched there was a calmness around him he only knew from being with his family.
“Sit down, I have to call Matsumoto-kun,” the other boy mumbled and pointed at a chair. Nino blinked but did as he was told, as he watched him.
“Why Jun-kun?”
“Because he was worried, but the school is too big to check everywhere on his own.”
Nino watched him in confused silence, trying to understand what was happening. “Class…”
Ohno ended the short call and moved to look at him with a soft smile. Cute, Nino thought, blushing just slightly. “Don’t worry. I’m Ohno Satoshi.”
“Ninomiya Kazunari,” he mumbled, wrinkling his nose when the other nodded with a chuckle. Of course, the other boy knew his name, everybody did.
“Nino, right?”
Nino nodded looking down at his feet. He preferred the nickname and it was nice to hear it coming from the other. “Is Jun-kun coming?”
“He’s telling the teacher you are in the nurse's room. I have a free period.”
“Oh…”
“Disappointed?” Ohno asked in a teasing manner, making Nino blush again without him being able to stop it.
“Sorry.”
“It’s fine. You decided on a nice hide-out.”
“I like that it smells like music!” Nino explained, hiding his face in his hands when the other boy looked at him surprised.
“Smells like music? How does music smell?” he asked curiously.
“Nothing,” Nino answered almost inaudibly. “Forget it.”
“No, tell me. I promise I won’t laugh.”
Nino looked at him in silence for a while, considering his words and tilting his head. He had no idea why Jun asked Ohno for help, but he was somehow glad that the older boy found him. Jun always worried and that was also very hard for him to endure.
With Ohno, there was nothing, which was strange, and would confuse him on any other day, but for today he was very glad for it. “Music smells like ink, and coffee, and lavender,” he said in the end. “I like it.”
Ohno smiled at the words and nodded in understanding. “Sounds nice. Are you feeling better?”
Nino shrugged and pulled a leg closer to his body, as he observed Ohno carefully when the other stood to walk around the room, seemingly ignoring him, but Nino could feel his eyes on him, making sure he was okay.
Nino smiled shyly as he relaxed his stance slightly. “You are very nice,” he decided.
Ohno chuckled and came over to ruffle his hair. Nino flinched just slightly, but the hand in his hair was warm and gentle, and he closed his eyes. “And you are very cute.”
Chapter 21
Summary:
Comfortember Prompt 1: Hugs
Chapter Text
Hi there, I am trying my best to get back to regular writing. I might do something for December, but I don’t think I will be able to do something with daily posting.
Please give me prompts and I try to come up with a system (maybe something for each Sunday, the 6th and the Christmas days?)
I want to finish up some stories, and finish the prompts for Sicktember as well. And now I started on Comfortember but those prompts I want to use for my usual stories or continuations…
So here is the first prompt: Hugs
Ohno had left Nino after a few more shared kisses and cuddles to get ready for the day. He had told the younger man that he wanted some fresh air and Nino had accepted that excuse easily. He had stayed in his room for a moment longer, his eyes closed and trying to work out how he felt. It was a bit confusing right now that Ohno’s calm presence was gone but with another few deep breaths, he managed to entangle the thoughts that were his and what was Jun’s. He groaned as he climbed out of bed. He knew Ohno was giving him and Jun space, and he wanted to talk to the other, he really did, but he supposed a shower would be in order first.
His hair was still slightly wet as he walked into the kitchen with slow steps. Nino stopped at the door, watching as Jun moved around his kitchen with ease. The strain on his shoulder was gone much to Nino’s delight and even if he could tell that Jun was still sad about the break-up and worked up about their fight, Nino could tell. And he felt a bit similar.
A small smile was on his face as he stepped in, to peek around Jun to see what he was doing. “Is this breakfast for me?”
Jun almost jumped and Nino chuckled, even if he felt slightly bad. He didn’t want to scare him.
“I hope so at least,” Jun said and shrugged him off. “Sit down there is tea.”
“No coffee for me?” Nino asked with a pout.
“I don’t think you should drink coffee in your current state,” Jun mumbled and put down the breakfast. Nino felt a bit ill at the thought of eating, but it was easier when Jun sat down as well and divided the meals into two plates, moving one in front of Nino.
Nino thanked him and then started on his rice when he felt Jun’s eyes on him with a grimace. It had been like that when they lived together as well. Jun silently forced some food into him.
“How are you feeling?”
“Groggy,” Nino said truthfully and took a sip of the tea. He chuckled when he realised it was ginger tea to settle his stomach and with a sigh, he put it down. “Hey Jun.”
“What is it?”
“Are you still mad at me?”
“I wasn’t…” Jun stopped when Nino looked at him and shook his head. “Okay, I was mad. But not for long,” he mumbled. He regretted it soon enough but then was too stubborn that Nino felt the way he did. He knew now that it was stupid and childish, but he couldn’t change it now.
“I am sorry for being so blunt,” Nino said and wrinkled his nose remembering that stupid phone call. He had not been the nicest that day, but he felt pushed to a corner.
“I shouldn’t have pushed you so much. It was hard to not tell me anything.” Jun sighed and put his chopsticks down, as he looked Nino in the eyes. “I think I should be thankful that you didn’t lie to me.”
“I would never,” Nino said in a small voice. He hated lying, to begin with, and even more if it was to his friends.
“I know.”
Nino looked away as he felt his cheeks heating up and hid his face in his hands. Why was he so easily embarrassed some days?
“Headache?” Jun said and Nino groaned as he could detect the teasing in Jun’s voice easily.
He pouted and ignored him as he stuffed some more food into his mouth, ignoring the giggle from Jun. The other man had gotten back to his usual self faster than Nino would have thought, but he couldn’t deny that he was happy about it.
He sighed as he finished his food and took the cup between his hands to drink it in slow sips as Jun stood and cleared the table.
“If I see anything float by I will hit you,” he warned and Nino grimaced as he stuck out his tongue.
“Ohno forbid me to use any until he says it’s okay after yesterday, so I won’t.”
“Whipped huh?”
Nino snorted and shrugged. “Totally,” he said, smiling when Jun laughed. He shook his head and waited until Jun’s eyes were off him. He rubbed his face as he felt tired slowly. His mind went back to the last few days, to the tears and sorrow he felt and Jun had felt as well.
Nino stood and went closer to Jun, being as silent as he could be which was easy since Jun was always so concentrated on the things he did, that he was all focused on the dishes. Nino bit his lips to not giggle at how cute he found that characteristic.
His eyes darted to the clock for a moment, he could tell that Ohno would come home very soon. It was surprising that the older man left them for almost an hour already, but Nino knew that it was the most Ohno could do if he was with him whenever Nino had to work the day before. The fear of losing one another didn’t allow anything else easily.
Nino took the last step between him and Jun and then managed to engulf Jun in a hug. Jun tensed for a second as always when someone came close from behind but Nino was proud of the fact that Jun always was so quick to relax whenever he realised that it was Nino who was behind him. Not even Ohno managed that and in Nino’s mind, Ohno was the most calming person in existence.
“Thank you for being you,” Nino whispered and allowed Jun to move around and hug Nino as well.
“Stupid brat.”
“Always,” Nino giggled, looking up when there was a chuckle coming from the door. He smiled at Ohno who watched them with a fond smile and crossed arms.
“Brotherly love,” Ohno hummed his voice warm and soft. “The best love huh?”
Nino held out his hand at those words and Ohno took it easily kissing his cheek. “And as sad as I feel for having to tear you apart but I think you should go back to bed.”
Nino pouted but Jun agreed with a click of his tongue as he ruffled Nino’s hair and realised that his face was slightly warm.
“I agree.”
“Stay,” Nino whined and Jun rolled his eyes while Ohno took over the hug and picked Nino up.
“Jun will have to go home at some time,” he reminded him gently. “But I’m sure he will stay until you will wake up again,” he looked at Jun for confirmation, who nodded and tweaked Nino’s nose.
“Whiny brat. I’ll wait.”
Nino grinned and allowed Ohno finally to bring him into their bedroom, holding him close to his lover until he fell sleep, after being forced to drink another potion.
Chapter Text
“Here you are,” Nino said as he stepped beside Ohno. His eyes wandered to the sky, watching the bright full moon and the stars twinkling beside it. A small smile on his face, when Ohno hummed, tugging at his ankle slightly. “You’ll make me fall to my death.”
“I would always catch you, besides you can fly if you want.”
“I’m not a crow,” Nino snorted as he carefully sat down on the roof where he had found Ohno. A small shiver ran over his back, as the wind blew around him. Ohno chuckled beside him, as he put an arm around his back, drawing him closer, laughing out loud when Nino huffed and a blanket appeared around his shoulders. Apparently, his embrace was not enough on this autumn night.
Ohno took care to put the blanket fully around their backs and Nino finally sighed happily as he fell against his side. “What are you doing outside? Couldn’t sleep?”
“Hmm…” Ohno hummed. “The moon is beautiful tonight.”
“I guess…” Nino was not really interested in natural sights. If he could decide on what to do he would just hide in his home most of the time. Of course, Ohno thought differently and enjoyed the sights and phenomena that nature gifted them. Nino had seen so much only thanks to his lover and he was probably not as thankful as others would be but Ohno didn’t mind. Nino was pretty sure he found it endearing and amusing depending on the day.
“Did I wake you up?” Ohno asked after a few seconds of silence.
Nino shook his head. “It got a bit cold, that’s all. You were longer gone than for a normal bathroom break. I didn’t think you would be on the roof though.”
“As I said the moon is beautiful tonight. I felt like I wanted to be closer to it than just watching it through the window.”
“You are so strange sometimes.”
“Thank you I love you as well.”
Nino chuckled and closed his eyes as he snuggled up more to Ohno.
“Sleepy?”
“Mh… It’s fine. It has been a while since we have done something like that. Is everything okay?”
Ohno shrugged but didn’t answer right away. He didn’t need to as well. Nino could tell after all. It was more an invitation for Ohno to tell him more if he wanted, but it was not a must. It never was between them.
“I got offered a new job,” Ohno said after a while and Nino stiffened just very slightly. When Ohno said it like that it meant that it was not close.
“I see,” he said carefully, chancing a glance upwards to Ohno who was frowning slightly, deep in thought. His embrace tightened just a tiny bit, even pinching Nino slightly, but he didn’t make a sound or say anything. This was for Ohno to sort out.
Ohno’s fingers wandered under the sleep shirt that Nino wore and caressed the warm skin with just his fingertips. Nino almost purred at the feather-light touches and closed his eyes for a second. He could tell that Ohno was smiling absentmindedly at the sounds that were coming from his lover and maybe Nino was supposed to be embarrassed but there was no way he could be. He didn’t care what others would think because Ohno didn’t mind. He found it adorable and that was all that counted. They were alone in the cool night, only the moon watching over them as Ohno was thinking about what to say next. It was something that had been on his mind for a while now and Nino knew that.
He hadn’t been surprised to be alone when he woke up. The only thing he was surprised about had been that Ohno had not been in their apartment. Ohno had not slept much the last few days Nino could tell as he had found Ohno staring blankly at his canvases instead of working on them. They had cuddled a lot on the sofa, napping or at least trying to.
“It will be dangerous,” Ohno said in the end with a sigh. He continued to caress Nino with slow strokes. It was more to calm down Ohno than Nino but Nino would not call out Ohno on this. He hummed in a low tone. Just to do something and to show Ohno that he listened. Not that Ohno would think anything else. Nino always listened even if he appeared differently. Nino cared for people important to him after all. And one of the most important people was Ohno and that would never change.
Nino could tell that Ohno was serious. It wouldn’t be dangerous maybe, or it could get dangerous, no it would be dangerous for sure. There was no mistake. Nino had no idea who offered Ohno a job because they never did. They always trusted each other so there was no need to check on each other’s mails or calls.
“And it won’t be paid well. To be honest it probably would cost me more than they would even be able to offer.”
Nino almost snorted. Of course, it was more expensive than anything else. Ohno’s life was worth more than anything. Nino would dare to say more than his life, but Ohno would probably angrily disagree with him on that point, so he would never utter that thought out loud. After all, he could only love Ohno if he was alive and Ohno was worth all the love one could offer him.
“As you probably can tell with my cryptic words it’s for charity. I was asked if I was interested in being part of a series of natural disaster showcases to turn the attention of the public to them and the need for change to turn around things. It also contains scientific articles, but they say pictures have more power.”
“Especially yours,” Nino said with a small smile when Ohno’s words fell short. He looked up, almost chuckling, when there was no denial in Ohno’s face. Ohno knew about his talents. He never bragged but he also never belittled himself. “So what are you thinking about that keeps you up at night?”
“If I should go…” Ohno mumbled. “It would be the first dangerous trip I go knowingly on. And I would leave you alone…”
“Ah… Jun doesn’t live with me anymore,” Nino hummed in understanding. “I am not incapable of being on my own,” he continued.
“No, but you worry. And I hate to worry you.”
“I love you,” Nino decided and put his head on his shoulder. “You should decide for yourself and not use me as an excuse to go or not to go. You might not detest me but I don’t want to take any fault in your decisions. I’ll be fine. Yes, I worry, yes I will demand you to call me as often as you can and I will put as many protection spells on you each time you leave as I can get away with, but I won’t do stupid things.”
“So no following me?” Ohno teased.
Nino snorted. “Never. Also probably no dangerous jobs for me so that you don’t have extra worries.”
“Such a good boyfriend,” Ohno teased.
Nino chuckled and stood, he dropped a kiss to the side of Ohno’s lips and draped the blanket more around his frame after he stepped to the side. Ohno closed his eyes for a second as he felt extra warmth over his body as Nino had used a warming spell to ensure he wouldn’t get cold.
“And because I am such a good boyfriend who sadly needs his beauty sleep and knows you need more time to think and admire the beautiful moon without being distracted by me, I will go back in. Take your time, and warm me up when you are ready to come to bed.”
Ohno nodded with a small smile and watched him leave for a second. “Thank you, Kazunari,” he whispered as he turned around again.
Nino left the roof to do as he told Ohno and closed his eyes for a second as he closed the door to lean against it for just a moment.
Chapter Text
Nino woke up in Ohno’s arms the next morning. He had not woken up when the older man had come to bed, but he couldn’t help the tiny smile when he felt the warmth around him and the smell of his lover.
He rubbed his nose against Ohno’s shoulder sleepily, making an unhappy noise when his cushion shook slightly under him in silent laughter, telling him clearly that Ohno was in fact not asleep. He probably hasn’t slept all night, Nino thought as he hugged Ohno a bit tighter, not ready to wake up fully and face the world.
Ohno calmed down again, humming slightly as his fingers danced over Nino’s back, following his natural curve before settling down at his nape. Ohno’s fingers were warm and soft as they caressed the warm skin there, now and then playing with the ends of Nino’s hair, who snuggled up deeper and almost fell back to sleep with the humming and touches of Ohno.
“I am pretty sure that your touch and voice are magical,” he murmured in a very low voice as he was not ready to destroy the comfortable lull that had settled around them.
“You say that a lot.”
“Just shows how much I mean it.”
“I am pretty sure I have no magical ancestors.”
“So you always tell me,” Nino said with a small chuckle and finally opened his eyes to look at him. He moved a bit so that they were face to face, smiling when Ohno moved forward to kiss his lips. “Not that it would even change anything if there was anybody generations and generations before you were born the chances that there was a mutation that awakened in you so suddenly is very slim.”
Ohno shrugged carefully so as not to dislodge Nino, who was still resting on his arm. If anything he supposed he could be glad that he was no wizard. The chances of meeting Nino were almost zero and who would have wanted that?
“Still sleepy?”
“No, just comfortable,” Nino murmured and rubbed his nose against Ohno’s shoulder. “But I wouldn’t say no to some coffee.”
Ohno laughed and kissed the tip of his nose. “How about having a breakfast date then?”
Nino wrinkled his nose because that meant going out but Ohno looked so hopeful that in the end, he nodded silently. “There was this place that offered filled croissants right?”
Ohno’s eyes lightened up at the prospect of trying out that coffee shop. The pictures were mouthwatering with croissants cut open filled with cream and fruit or chocolate sauce or big sandwiches filled with different veggies and eggs. But the croissants were their adverts and looked gorgeous. It was a bit much for breakfast on normal days, but if they got ready in leisure it would be more like an early brunch and they could share a sweet and savoury choice.
“Shower and get dressed then?”
Nino nodded and smiled when Ohno hugged him a bit tighter for a second longer, before letting go. Ohno helped Nino up to take the shower together, which took longer than needed, but who could blame them if they were distracted by each other?
It was almost noon when they were out of the house and Nino was almost whiny because of the lack of coffee and getting hungry, jumping to the side, when Ohno started to poke his side to get him to shut up. Well, at least he managed to make Nino laugh so it was a win anyway.
“It was sooo good,” Ohno said dreamily.
Nino scoffed as he leaned more against him, with Ohno’s arms around his hip. “You made some very lewd noises when you tried the first bite,” he teased.
Ohno smirked as his fingers wandered under his shirt, to tease the naked skin. “Don’t deny that you like the sounds I make.”
“Not if I can’t draw them from you,” Nino complained and pouted at his lover who shook his head in amusement.
“It’s not as if didn’t earlier today.”
Nino glanced at him and stuck out his tongue as he realised that he just added to Ohno’s amusement instead of making him uncomfortable.
They fell silent again, as they continued their way through the little park close to their home. Just that they didn’t turn the corner to the right that led them home but left as Ohno had insisted on buying some treats for Aiba and Nino’s mum as he had decided a visit would be good. Nino knew that he would also invite Jun for dinner one of these days and even if Ohno didn’t tell him outright just yet, it meant that he would leave.
Nino had decided last night that he was okay with it. Ohno’s heart had already decided to go and Nino wouldn’t want to hold him back. Nino knew that Ohno would always take care of himself. Hell, Ohno was so much better at taking care of himself and Nino on top of it than Nino was taking care of a plant. If Ohno was like him he would have been more worried. And this was the reason Ohno had decided to visit their closest persons.
Ohno knew that Nino sometimes got lost in things and wanted to make sure he had people to check up on him and to turn to if needed during his absence and Nino was okay with that as well. Ohno needed that to calmly face the things ahead.
By the time they finally went back to their apartment, the sun was setting, which prompted Nino to stop in his tracks, slightly tugging at Ohno’s wrist to make sure that he realised that he stopped and wouldn’t pull him along on accident. Ohno stopped and turned to look at Nino who was looking at the colours that the sun painted on the slowly darkening sky.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
Ohno looked at Nino in silence for a moment. How could he not? Nino had his back turned to him, entranced by the setting sun. He wore very casual clothes, dark blue skins and a white T-shirt. Nothing special in any way, but the way the reds, oranges and yellows accented every curve of Nino’s body was so special that Ohno was lost for words for a moment.
Nino glanced back at him when there was no answer for a few minutes, a small smile playing on his face and Ohno cleared his throat.
“Yes,” he agreed. It was beautiful, he thought when Nino’s smile widened, fine wrinkles appearing at the side of his eyes, even if it would never reach the beauty that was his little wizard.
“Let’s go home?”
“Let’s,” Ohno agreed, tugging Nino closer again until the young man collided slightly against his body again. He couldn’t wait until they would be back in their little safe heaven for today.
