Work Text:
“Y/N, Chaewon, I’m home!” Namjoon shouted into the air as he slipped off his shoes and removed his winter coat. Setting down the bag of groceries that Y/N had asked him to pick on his way home, he suddenly felt a small pair of arms tightly coil around his leg. A smile plastered across his face as he looked down to see his little girl beaming up at him. “Daddy, you’re home! I missed you!”
Namjoon bent down to pick up the six year old girl and embraced her lovingly as she wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him even tighter. “I missed you too, my princess,” giving her a kiss on her head and gently pulling out of the hug, Chaewon loosened her grip, but still kept grip around his neck as Namjoon rested her on his hip, “So, how was school today?”
Chaewon let out an exasperated groan, “Horrible! Chin Hwa kept wrecking through Jieun’s and my building blocks every time we were playing with them. He said he was pretending to be Godzilla and...”
Namjoon listened tentatively to his daughter as she rambled on about her day until he saw his beautiful wife round the corner, coming to greet him. Eight months pregnant and glowing.
“Looks like Wonnie beat me again today,” Y/N said as she walked up and greeted Namjoon with a kiss. Both smiling as they pulled away. “How was work, Honey?” “Good, ya know, same old, same old. Just happy to be back home with my girls.”
Y/N nodded and began reaching down to pick up the grocery bag off the floor that Namjoon had set it on. Namjoon noticed and quickly set Chaewon on her feet and grabbed the bag before Y/N could. “Nope,” he quipped.
Y/N rolled her eyes and set her hands on her hips in mild annoyance. “Joon, I’m pregnant, not weak. I can lift one grocery bag.” Namjoon let out a small chuckle. “I just don’t want you doing anything to stain yourself when the baby is coming soon,” he pushed. “In six more weeks! I can handle myself. I practically did everything by myself when I was pregnant with Chaewon.” Y/N retorted back.
Namjoon had a sad smile as he looked down at his daughter and back up to his wife, “Well, not anymore. As long as I’m around, you won’t ever have to do this alone again.” He vowed as he lovingly caressed Y/N’s abdomen, swollen with their child, and kissed her to solidify his statement. Pulling away when he felt Chaewon tugging on his hand to follow her.
“Come on, Daddy! I want to show you the picture I drew at school today,” Chaewon beamed proudly. “Is that right? I can’t wait to see it so I can hang it up with your other masterpieces. Let me just set this down in the kitchen for Mama...” Their voices trailed off as they walked further inside their house, leaving Y/N to clutch her chest as warmth and happiness filled her body, thinking about her husband’s words and how lucky she was to find a man that treated her like a queen and treated her daughter as his own.

When Y/N had met Namjoon, she was a barista at a coffee near his place of work and Chaewon was two at the time. She hadn’t dated anyone since Chaewon’s father had dumped her when she told him about her pregnancy and left her to raise her daughter on her own. It was very hard to find any time for herself, much less have time to date, but then he walked into her life.
Namjoon would come in everyday, 2-3 times a day just to see and flirt with her. Y/N’s favorite part of the day was when she got to see him. Soon after a few months of flirtatious banter, he finally asked her out on a date. Y/N hesitated to accept his requests at first, always making up excuses, even though all she wanted to do was to go out with Namjoon. Her hesitation stemmed from insecurities of being a young, single mother and if any man was willing to not only accept her, but Chaewon as well. Namjoon quickly quelled Y/N’s fears once she finally accepted to go on a date with him.
After their 5th date, strolling along the Han River after their picnic in the park, Y/N had decided it was time to tell Namjoon about Chaewon and her past. “Hey, um, Joon, would you consider us to be boyfriend and girlfriend at this point?” Y/N questioned, looking up at him. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze and let out a light chuckle, displaying his toothy grin and dimple, “Yeah, of course. I’ve been calling you my girlfriend since our first date. You’ve had me quite smitten since I first met you at that overpriced coffee shop.”
A rosy pink dusted cheeks as she responded back, “If it was so expensive then why did you come in multiple times of the day?” “The coffee isn’t what kept me going through the day, it was getting to see you, and I needed my fix. I almost went insane that one time you didn’t show up for work.” He said half-jokingly. Y/N blushed a deeper red and suddenly remembered the reason she missed work that day was because her daughter was sick and she couldn’t find anyone in time to care for her in Y/N’s stead.
Remembering the point of this conversation, she shook her head and stopped in her tracks. The abrupt stop made Namjoon grow concerned, “Is everything alright?” Y/N grabbed his hands into her’s, looking down at only their intertwined hands, not have the courage to look him in the eye. “Yes, well no, um, if we’re gonna have a relationship and future together, then we should be honest with each other.”
“I would hope and like for us to be honest and truthful to each other, but did just start dating. If you’re not ready to tell me anything, then that’s fine, I can wait a little longer.”
Y/N looked up and saw sincerity in his eyes before looking back down at their hands. “No, actually, I need to say this. It could make or break this relationship, especially depending on how you respond.” She said with a feigned laugh. He squeezed her hands in reassurance and let out a worried sigh, “Okay, tell me.”
Y/N nodded, still not looking at him as she said, “I, um, I- I have- I have a child. A daughter, in fact.” Looking up she saw his stunned expression, causing her to retreat into herself and begin rambling, “If we are going to be in a relationship then you have to accept that I’m a mother and my child I won’t always be available because she is my top priority and I’m not asking you to meet her right now because it’s too soon and-“
Namjoon stopped her chatter by cradling her face his large, calloused hand kissing her passionately on the lips. Y/N’s tension and anxieties washed away as she closed her eyes wrapped her arms around his waist, pulling him closer, deepening their kiss. They finally pulled apart, but stayed in their embrace. Namjoon guided Y/N’s head to his chest, resting it where she could hear his heart beating.
They stayed like that for a moment before he asked, “What’s her name?”
“Hm?”
“What’s her name? Your daughter. How old is she? You failed to mention that when you were talking about her,” giving Y/N an amused smile.
“Oh,” Y/N blushed in embarrassment, “her name is Chaewon and she’s two years old.” “Chaewon...” he pondered, “that’s a pretty name. I can’t wait to meet her.” Namjoon smiled wide and genuinely, making his eyes thin and his dimple deepen. His sentiment made Y/N’s heart flutter as she looked forward to their future together.
Of course, he didn’t meet her daughter immediately after that, the couple waited a few more weeks before introducing him to her child. However, once Chaewon and Namjoon met, they hit it off immediately, practically joined at the hip. They always had fun whenever Namjoon would come over, her daughter would always cry and scream when he had to leave and she would always ask for him when he wasn’t around. It was like he had always been a part of her daughter’s life. Chaewon had even begun calling Namjoon, Daddy, three months after meeting him. Y/N was afraid that would make him uncomfortable and scare him off, but the exact opposite happened.
Namjoon immediately accepted his new role and title and only responded to Chaewon when she called him, Daddy. He even called her, his daughter, and Y/N, his wife, whenever he made any social media posts or talked to other people about them. Y/N realized that she hit the lottery when she met a man as warm, kind and accepting as Namjoon.
Two years later, they all moved into a new big, beautiful home together, perfect for the three of them.
Another year and Namjoon got down on one knee and proposed to Y/N on the day that Chaewon and Namjoon met and they had unofficially became a family. They got married soon after and had a beautiful wedding with Chaewon right by their side.
After a year of marital bliss, Y/N became pregnant with her second child and Namjoon’s first biological child and they couldn’t be happier. Especially Chaewon, she was so excited to become a big sister.
Of course, Y/N’s and Namjoon’s relationship was far from perfect, they even had a major break up at one point, but they both soon realized that they couldn’t live without each other and that they were meant to be a family.
“Mama! Is dinner almost ready?” Wonnie shouted from the living room, snapping Y/N out of her thoughts. Shuffling towards the kitchen, she shouted back “Yes, just give me 10 more minutes!” Continuing dinner with a smile on her face.

Namjoon sat in bed, shirtless, reading, waiting for his wife to come to bed. He was having trouble get through the page he was on, rereading the same paragraphs over and over again because they just didn’t seem to stick. It was probably because of this thought, this question that he been thinking about since Y/N became pregnant with their child, and he felt like now was the best time to ask.
Finally, Y/N exited the bathroom and began climbing into bed, rubbing lotion on her skin. Namjoon watched at her as she lifted her shirt over her stomach and rubbed oil on to alleviate her stretch marks from her still growing belly. Y/N finally noticed her husband’s stares and jokingly asked, “Enjoying the show?”
Snapped out of his gaze he replied, “What?”
“You’re staring at me. I didn’t know me rubbing lotion on myself was so entertaining for you.”
Producing light laughter from Namjoon, he replied, “Well, in some circumstances, I’d find it very entertaining , but actually I have something to ask you.”
“Okay, well can you ask me while you rub my feet please, baby? My ankles were swelling like crazy today.” Moving from his side of the bed to hers and positioning her feet on his lap, he said, “Of course, my love.”
“Ask away,” Y/N prompted closing her eyes as her husband began working on her feet.
“Well the baby is coming soon,”
“Mmhm.”
“And all of us except for Chaewon will be Kim’s.”
“Her last name is Y/L/N, my maiden name.”
“Right, so I was wondering what you thought about me adopting Wonnie and making her a Kim.”
Y/N’s eyes snapped open at Namjoon’s proposition, “What?” “I want to adopt Chaewon and make her my daughter. I mean, I’ve always thought of my daughter since we met all those years ago, but I want to make it official. Especially before her new sibling comes, but, of course, I want to ask Chaewon first too. This is an important and big step in our relationship and I don’t want to make this decision without her.”
Namjoon noticed Y/N covering her face as tears began spill over. Quickly rushing over to hold and comfort his wife, “Hey, hey, what’s wrong, my love? Was it that bad an idea?”
“No no no! It’s a wonderful idea, I have no doubts that Chaewon will say yes. I’m just so happy and thankful to have you in our lives.” Namjoon wiped a tear from Y/N’s face with his thumb and giving his wife a peck on the lips. “I’m the one who should be thankful, you and Wonnie gave me the family that I’ve always wanted and now that we’re having this baby, I’ve never been happier.”
