Work Text:

Incheon Airport, Duty-Free Shopping

If you would’ve asked Vincenzo Cassano what color suited Ms. Hong best after they’d first met, he would’ve said neon green or mustard yellow.

Loud and inelegant, those colors could be seen from far away, and be too distracting up close but now, months later and inextricably in love with her, he felt differently.

He was currently in the Duty-Free Shopping section of Incheon International Airport, his passport tucked safely in his jacket, but his mind and heart filled with thoughts of Chayoung.

He didn’t want to leave her, but for her safety and everyone else they cared about at Guemga Plaza, he needed to.

Who would’ve thought that he’d consider the Guemga Plaza tenants, as not just friends but family, and Ms. Hong not as an antagonist, but as his soulmate?

Korea had changed him, and Hong Cha-young was a big part of that.

His hand still tingled where she'd shook it after her stunning confession, and he regretted not pulling her close and tucking her into his arms for a hug. He was lucky she was so patient with him, and understanding of the way he expressed his emotions.

Glancing up at the Chanel store, he inhaled and entered it like a man preparing to do battle.

“Can I help you, sir?” a tiny sales clerk with shiny black hair approached, bowing respectfully.

“I’m looking for perfume and a scarf,” Vincenzo said. He looked around appreciatively at the chic ambiance; everything was upscale, right down to how the store smelled. “And possibly a handbag? All for a special lady.”

"Yes, sir. Right this way." The clerk’s eyes gleamed at the possible sales commission, nothing was more profitable than a man a love.

Vincenzo smiled as he followed, knowing he was about to be upsold, but he didn't care.

Picking the fragrance was easier than Vincenzo expected. He steered clear from the classic ones that older Italian matrons may wear - his Chayoung was too vibrant for those- and went straight to a colorful display.

"Chance fraîche," he murmured aloud, reading the promotional display. The sales lady efficiently spritzed the scent on a square of paper and fanned it for the alcohol to dry off before handing it to him. Citron, jasmine, and teak were the notes of the scent- lively, sensual yet grounded.

"I want this," he decided. "Everything that comes with it. The perfume, shower gel, body cream-"

"Yes, sir." The clerk moved quickly. "I will have it gift wrapped for you."

They moved on to the scarves, which Vincenzo wasn't too enamored with. He loved it when Cha-young wore her hair down, and all of the scarves were hair ones. But he wanted to please her, so he picked out three silk ones, a striped white and black, navy blue and fuchsia pink, so she had options to wear to Jipuragi,  Court, or out on the weekends.

The Chanel headbands were beautiful, but he'd never seen her wear them, so he decided to get a hair clip instead. He chose an opulent one with gold and pearls that he just knew she would like because of how beautiful it was.

"What about a handbag?" The clerk said, innocently. "Your lady will be the talk of her friends."

Vincenzo furrowed his brows. He knew without a doubt that Cha-young wouldn't give a damn what others thought but she'd appreciate luxury because she had good taste. He glanced at his watch; he had an international flight so he needed to hurry.

"Show me your bags," he finally said.

He ended up purchasing two- a classic black calfskin one with a gold chain, and then a pretty rose pink clutch with pearls.  They were both beautiful, just like Cha-young, and satisfied, he motioned to pay for everything.

He was finalizing the order with his card when he made another decision, to not waste any more time with Cha-young.

He loved her, and he knew she loved him.

"I apologize, but can you show me your jewelry?" he asked, his mind made up.

He was going to propose, whether he found a ring or not. But it wouldn't hurt to look, just in case.

It turned out that Chanel had beautiful high-end jewelry, and not just for engagement rings.

"I'll let her decide," he said sheepishly. When all was said and done, it would be for her to wear, so he didn't think it would be right to pick out her ring. He would just have to find a way to figure out what she would want and then surprise her.

He looked down at his watch, he had to board his flight.

As he walked out of Chanel laden with bags, the dread in his stomach grew larger and larger.

This was wrong, he belonged at Cha-young's side, not leaving her.  Pulling out his phone, he made a last-minute phone call. It was a long shot, but if it worked, he could take care of the situation in Italy, and get back to Geumga Plaza.

Later that night

Vincenzo was nervous as he walked towards Jipuragi. He didn't know what he would say to Cha-young, or whether he should confess his feelings immediately, or plan something more elaborate for the next day.

Whatever he was expecting, it wasn't the mob of menacing men dressed in black in the hallway, and a common thug raising his hand to attack Chayoung. Thank God he was back, Vincenzo fumed, as he allowed anger to rise up.

That bastard had his hand in Ms. Hong's hair, while Seo Meri was cowering in fear.

Vincenzo didn't even think twice, twisting the gangster's hand back, and dragging him away from Cha-young, and when he threw the man out the window? He really didn't give a damn, as long as Cha-young and everyone else was okay.

He clicked his lighter because he needed to focus and calm down, his mind was racing with the what-ifs, because what if he'd taken that flight to Italy, what if he didn't return, what if he didn't get back to Cha-young in time?

With a grim face, he stretched his hand out, beckoning the thugs to come at him. "I'll take care of you all in five minutes," he promised. He needed to confess his love to Hong Cha-young before it was too late, and so he needed to finish this part up as soon as possible.

Notes:

Thanks for reading, I'd love to hear from you about your thoughts for this weekend :) Won't it be cool if we see some presents for Chayoung? :)
