Work Text:
"Mrs. Skywalker, there's someone on the phone for you."
Padmé looked up from her paperwork and nodded at her assistant.
"Okay, put them through Tom. Thank you."
She picked up the phone and pinched the bridge of her nose, willing the upcoming migraine away.
"Hello. Mrs. Skywalker?"
"Yes, this is she. Who is this?" She hoped it wasn't some sort of prank call, she really couldn't deal with that today.
"I'm Miss Evans, your children's teacher. Unfortunately, something has happened this afternoon that I feel needs to be discussed."
Of course, Miss Evans, the twins' kindergarten teacher. Padmé sighed, knowing her daughter could sometimes be a nightmare. "Okay, what's Leia done this time?"
"Uhm, actually, it's Luke. I think it would be better if we can discuss this in person. When would be best for you?" The poor woman was only young, and you could tell this was her first-year teaching.
"Well, I'm working half a day today, and my husband is working from home. We could talk with you when we pick the children up if that works?"
"That's wonderful. I'm sorry to bother you. I'll see you this afternoon." And with that she hung up.
Padmé buried her head in her hand, the headache fully developed behind her eyes. Picking up the phone again, she dialled the familiar number.
"Ani, our children are causing havoc in school."
"Again?"
"Yes. Their teacher is meeting with us after school. I said we'd be there."
"Okay. I'll meet you there."
At half two, Padmé walked through the halls of the school to her children's classroom. Anakin was already there, and she rounded the corner to see her husband sat in a chair much too small for him, the twins sat on either side.
"Oh, Mrs Skywalker, please take a seat." Miss Evans sat on a chair opposite the family, "Earlier today, during recess, Luke was playing a game with Ezra and Jyn. Ezra accidentally stood on his foot and Luke here responded in a way that we cannot condone at this school."
Padmé raised her eyebrow. What was wrong with Luke having a little moment because his foot got stepped on?
"What did he do?" Anakin questioned.
"Luke and Leia, why don't you two go play outside for a minute." The twins ran out, oblivious as to the fact they had done wrong. Miss Evans turned her attention back to the parents.
"It seems to be that Luke has heard a word from someone. I did explain that it was a bad word, but he didn't really understand that he had done anything wrong."
Anakin looked between the teacher and his wife, "What did he say? It couldn't have been that bad."
The drive home was an awkward one. It turned out the word Luke had learnt was bad, especially for a five-year-old.
"How did he hear that? We never swear in front of them."
"I don't know Ani. Maybe they heard it from someone else." Padmé put her head against the window, she really couldn't deal with this right now. "Maybe they heard it from Ahsoka, you know what teenagers are like."
"Yeah maybe. Or it could have been Korkie." They pulled into the driveway, both of them trying to figure out what had caused this dilemma.
Both of the twins had fallen asleep during the ride home, so Padmé took Luke inside and Anakin carried Leia. Padmé looked down at Luke as he slept, wondering how her little angel could say such a thing.
Two days later, they were no closer to finding out who had taught their son a curse word. They had practically interrogated everyone they knew to get an answer, but nobody knew anything about it.
The good thing was that Luke nor Leia had repeated the word.
"You know angel, maybe he didn't say it. I mean, their teacher is stressed out, maybe she just misheard him." Anakin mentioned as he walked into the kitchen where Padmé was working.
"Yeah, that's true. Plus, it's Luke. He would never do that." As if knowing they were talking about him, the five-year-old wandered into the room.
"Lukey, you promise you didn't swear?"
"I promise, dada."
Anakin smiled and took his son's hand, "Okay, come on then. Let's go play spaceships."
Padmé continued with her work, but she only got about a sentence in when her husband walked back in, horror written all over his face.
"He said it."
"What?"
"He dropped his toy and he said it."
Padmé just covered her face with her hands, there was no doubting that Luke had cursed in school now. She just didn't want to admit it.
"Ani, how does he know that word?!" They had finally gotten the twins to sleep, and both parents were exhausted.
"For the last time Padmé, I don't know!"
They were exhausted and frustrated. They decided to leave it for the time being and just get some sleep. As long as they taught the children that the word was bad, everything would be okay. Still, it was bugging Padmé that he had heard it somewhere.
She changed into her pyjamas and was finally about to get into bed and cuddle up net to Anakin, when suddenly her toe collided with the post of their bed.
"Ow, fuck!"
Her eyes widened and she gasped. Anakin gaped at her for her moment before bursting into laughter.
"Well, I think we just solved the mystery of where Luke heard that word." He smirked at her and she wanted to slap him.
How could she have been so careless? She knew the twins were impressionable at the moment, they picked up on everything their parents said.
"Angel don't worry. We just have to make sure they don't say it again. And make sure we watch what we say around them." Anakin sat next to her on the bed, rubbing circles into her back. "I am surprised he said it though, I would have expected Leia."
"Yeah, well we're not out of this yet. She still could say it." Padmé groaned, laughing besides herself. "We're raising monsters."
"Yeah, but would you change them?"
She shook her head, "Not at all."
