Chapter Text

Jungkook’s hand were trembling. “Its okay buddy. I’m not gonna hurt you, its just a little needle. There you go.” He smiled as he carefully put the sample he took in a plastic bag.

-You know it’s weird that you are talking to plants, right?

Jungkook frowned cutely and got up. Yoongi was looking at him smirking. He let out a little laugh.

-What, it is weird. Dont frown at me like that ıts not cute.

Jungkook stoped frowning and smiled. He wrapped his arm around Yoongies shoulder.

-Aww you know i’m cute. Admit it.

-No you are not.

-Admit itt

-No Jungkook

They started walking to the camp area while still aruing. The sun was setting and with the mid-march wind, it got pretty cold at evenings.

-Come oooon. I’m cute

-Okay fine I’m bored of arguing. You are cute.

They both started laughing when Jungkook did aegyo as a celebretion to the win. Yoongi and Jungkook always debated on the tiniest most silly things. It was mostly for fun but sometimes it would get very hot and spicy. There was one time where they debated over who would survive the longest if they were trapped in a cave with vampires that were hungry for a decade for almost 3 hours.

-So how is the project going, did you find any new information about the flowers we saw yesterday on the east side?

-No not really. I’ll go there again tomorrow. Ugh I don’t know why it took me so long to identify them.

Jungkook looked down in disappointment. He loved working with plants and he could anlyze them for hours but he could be very impatient about getting the results he wanted. He was still very young and had a lot to learn.

-Hey I bet Hobi has a couple books he can lend to you he was talking about them yesterday night constantly.

-Thanks hyung. That would be good.

When Yoongi and Jungkook arrived at the camp area the sun has already set and the whole crew was sitting by the campfire waiting for them.

-I thought you got eaten by a wolf for a minute, Hoseok said arm crossed standing by the fire.

-First of all there aren’t any wolves here and second of all i'm starving can we eat?

Hoseok got closer to Yoongi holding him tight fake biting his shoulder

-There aren’t any wolves huh? Hrrr nom nom nom

-Baby stop, Yoongi said giggling and hugging to Hoseok.

Yoongi and Hoseok met on a safari tour 4 years ago and been dating for almost 3 years. Hoseok says it was love at first sight but Yoongi says he didn’t like him back till their second date. Jungkook saw them as the perfect couple and although he teased them whenever they kissed or flirted in public –which they do a lot- he found it adorable. He had relationships before but it wasn’t like what they have. Jungkook wanted a sincere relationship like that but no one ever felt right. Hoseok always said “I cant describe love to you but when it happens, you will feel it.”.

-Hobi Hyung

-Yeah Jungkookie?

-There is this plant I saw on the east side and I couldn’t identify the species. Do you have any books I can borrow?

-hmm, what was it like

- It looked like a amaryllis at first but the leaf pattern didn’t match. It almost… It almost looked like it was magical.

-Magical huh? I’ll look at my books. Maybe I can take a look at the flower myself as well. When are you going to the east side again?

-Tomorrow actually. It would be nice for you to come, it’s boring having to drive 2 hours on your own.

-Great, we’ll leave at sunrise.

Jungkook opened his eyes to a soft sunlight coming through the window of his RV. He got out of bed and scrolled through social media –allthough the internet sucked- while he brushed his teeth. He picked the first shirt and shorts he saw on the floor and chanced. When he got out the RV he saw Hoseok waiting for him in front of the car.

-You ready?

-Yeah, lets go.

Hoseok sat on the drivers seat and Jungkook sat next to him putting all of their supplies in the back seats. Jungkook loved going on rides with Hoseok. He was the best company anyone could ever have. Hoseok was a plant biologist just like Jungkook and since Jungkook joined their team, Hoseok always helped him as his senior. Almost everything Jungkook learned was thought to him by Hoseok.

Jungkook opened his window and watched the beautiful scenery. The soft breeze combed through his silky blonde hair and gave him chills down his spine. Hoseok opened some early 2000’s playlist to brighten up the mood and when Britney Spears started playing Hoseok started dancing and singing along wildly which put a smile on Jungkook’s face.  Jungkook joined in when “Oops I did it again” started playing.

-OOPS I DID IT AGAIN. I PLAYED WITH YOUR HEART. GOT LOST IN THE GAME. OH BABY BABY

-OOPS YOU THINK I’M IN LOVE, THAT I’M SENT FROM ABOVE

They used their hands as a microphone while bringing their heads together

-I’M NOT THAT INNOCENT

If anyone saw 2 grown men putting a whole performance like this they would probably judge them and give weird looks but since they were in a wild forest, there was no one to judge them.

Hoseok stopped the music when it was a bit more late in the morning and Yoongi called him. Jungkook put on airpods and kept on listening music and didn’t care to listen Yoongi and Hoseok’s flirty morning talk. He knew it shouldn’t bother him but seeing it constantly was too much for Jungkook. Maybe he was a little jealous and didn’t wanna be alone. But it wasn’t like it was that easy. Because of his job he travelled all the time so it was impossible to have a stable relationship. He could date someone on the team but he didn’t find anyone that attractive. When he first joined he kinda had a thing with Soobin but it never got serious and they came to realize they were better when they were friends. Jungkook sometimes still thought about what would have happen if they continued but they were really close friends now so he thinks they made the right decision.

Listening to music Jungkook got lost in thoughts and didn’t realize they have already arrived. They got out of the car and looked through the junk in the backseat trying to find their backpacks.

-You really need to clean your car hyung

-I have nowhere to put all these things I collected. Till we go back to korea its going to stay like this.

The travel team was allowed to go back home every 3 months for a week or less. They have been working in this forest for a month and Hoseok’s car was already full of things he collected from there and there. Mostly rocks, flowers and some old furniture that was probably left from other campers.

-So where is this flower exactly?

Jungkook closed his eyes for a second trying to remember which side he went. He actually found the flower as an accident while he was wondering around till his shift was over.

-This way.

Hoseok followed Jungkook. They walked for 20 minutes, took weird turns along the way, went back a couple times when Jungkook didn’t remember seeing the place. Thankfully Jungkook had a great photographic memory. To a lot of people all the paths he took would look exactly the same but Jungkook always scanned everywhere he went  ,uncouncisly most times, and could see the smallest details.

-It must be around here.

-Okay I’ll start searching too. Its not common for this climate to have plants like amaryllis so it will be easy to spot. Wow the east side is really beautiful.

-Yeah I know. I love working here, its very peaceful.

They started looking for the flower. Jungkook tried to remember exactly where it was. He looked around and scanned the area. The area was mostly covered by big oak trees. To Jungkook’s guess they were pretty old. At least 400. The branches were long and thick, vines twirling around the branches. The grasses were so long it reached Jungkook’s knees tingling him. There were so many wild flowers around, spreaded beautiflly peeking through the long grass, blossoming on top of trees, nature was really a wonder. There were also a lot of pink flowers like chrysanthemum, delphinium and snapdragon which made finding the amaryllis a little harder. But Jungkook tried to focus on the sparkle the flower had. Jungkook didn’t know how to explain it ,which is why he didn’t tell Hoseok about it, but there was this almost glitter-like brightness to the flower. It didn’t have a shine like glass ıt was more like a soft sunlight. When he looked to the leaves there weren’t glitters on them. But it just shined. It gave Jungkook a feeling that he never felt before. He didn’t understand much from it. Hopefully this time he could indentify the plant. Or maybe he discovered a new kind of flower. Ughh, that would be awesome. One of Jungkook’s dream is naming a flower or a plant he discovered himself. To achive that dream in such a young age would be a great honour for Jungkook.

When he looked around he realized that he got far away from Hoseok and couldn’t see him anymore. They both had their phones and walkie-talkies ,just in case, so Jungkook didn’t worry about it too much and kept searching.

-Oh my god. OH MY GOD. I THINK I FOUND IT.

Jungkook exicetedly got closer to the beautiful flower. There was that feeling again. What is this feeling? It’s so weird.

Jungkook got so focused on the flower that he forgot all about Hoseok. Strange. There aren’t any other plants like this in the area.

-You sure are interesting. How did you even blossomed in this climate?

Jungkook you’re an idiot its not like the plant is going to talk back to you. He took some photos of it and started piling all of his equipment on the dirt getting ready to work. He carefully placed his ring finger under the leaf supporting it and as he was about to get his magnifying glass, he felt something again. It wasn’t like the other feeling, it was different this time. He got up and looked to his left. There was a big oak tree and it looked like it was older than the other ones, around 800 years. He walked over to the tree and started scanning it. There was a unique energy that came from the tree and Jungkook couldn’t help himself but scan the tree even more. His fingertips gently stroked the trees bark feeling every texture trying to understand the energy. He slowly went walked around the tree as he realized a giant hole in the trees back. The hole was pretty deep and it was surrounded by colorful flowers almost making it look like a gate. The feeling got stronger when Jungkook got close to the hole. His instincs told him to look whats inside the hole. The whole was big enough for Jungkook to crawl in and take a look at it.

What harm can it make?  Jungkook’s job  was mostly about searching and they didn’t have a strict plan or spresific work hours. They listened to the nature and worked whenever they feel like it. He quickly grabbed his torch from the pile next to the flower and ran back to the tree. First he tried to look inside the hole from the outside but the hole was deeper than Jungkook had thought so he couldn’t see much. Allright here we go. He putted the torch to his mouth and got on his knees to get inside. When he got there he grabbed the torch with his hand again, searching and looking. When he pointed his torch forward he saw the same flower. Interesting. He crawled a little coming towards the flower. He tried to understand how the flowers blossomed but he couldn’t come up with a logical reason. The hole was so much bigger than he thought. It seemed impossible it was this big but it was real. Jungkook went a little further trying to understand how big this hole was. It doesn’t make sense. How is it this big? 

He kept going for three minutes when he stopped. He looked really surprised and confused. There was a light coming through another hole. But the other side of the tree didn’t have a hole? I-ı checked it. This cant be possible, it cant be. Jungkook couldn’t understand a thing anymore, but his curiosity made him keep exploring. He hesitated going out for a second but he took a deep breath and got out of the tree.

The light dazzled him for a moment. He blinked a couple times trying to see properly. When he could open his eyes, the view schocked him to his core. The place looked nothing the forests Jungkook saw in his 23 years of life.  The forest was covered by long trees with sparkly leafs and flowers, all the flowers had that glittery shine just like the flower Jungkook saw on the east side.

-So this is where the flowers came from.

Jungkook wondred around the area looking at every signle plant with amazement trying to remember every tiny detail. This place didn’t matched anything Jungkook ever leraned in school and on his trips, it broke so many science laws Jungkook couldn’t wrap his head around it. But he was so fascinated that he couldn’t even care about any science. It was so beautiful, no need for any judgement.

It all felt a like a dream till Jungkook felt a heavy object in the back of his head, feeling dizzy and falling on the soft light green grass. The world went black and Jungkook fainted, on a forest where nobody knew where he was.

He was alone

Jungkook opened his eyes to the beautiful forest. His body was rest against a tree. He looked around with a confused face scratching the back of his head which hurt for some reason. Ouch why does it hurt this bad? He tried to remember how he ended up here sleeping. He didn’t remember what happened after he entered the forest. Trying to think, Jungkook heard a voice from far. Maybe they can help me he thought as he walked towards the voice. When he got close he stood behind a tree sticking his head out slightly to see the person who’s talking. When Jungkook saw the source of the voice, he lost his balance falling to the ground in shock, making a loud noise.

Jungkook saw a fairy. A fairy. H-how is that possible? Maybe it was a costume or something thought Jungkook for a second but he knew too well that those wings were way too real to be fake.

The fairy heard the noise and turned his head to Jungkook. He got close to Jungkook cautiously looking at him. Jungkook was even more startled when he got to see the fairies face. He was so beautiful. His light green eyes that had a slight pink tint was looking to him roughly, his blushy nose was scrunched and eyebrows frowned which meant he was probably angry but Jungkook couldn’t help himself but found it kinda cute.

The fairy just stood there staring at him and didn’t make a move or said anything. It looks like the fairy was examining the human just like Jungkook was. After they stared at each other for a solid minute Jungkook broke the silence.

-Umm… Hello there. Oh fuck. Uhh… Do you know English? Fuck I haven’t thought about that. Uh okay, you are still staring at me very creepily so I’m guessing you don’t speak the language.

The fairy tilted his head slightly and the frown got softer. He still kept on staring at Jungkook.

-Uhhh, how am I supposed to communicate with you? Okay um…

Jungkook pointed at himself trying to make the fairy understand.

-I am Jungkook. Jungkook. It’s me. I’m Jungkook.

Jungkook looked at the fairy with big eyes, looking if he understood.

-What are you doing in this forest?

-Oh. Y-you can talk English uh okay.

-What are you doing this forest, The fairy repeated with a straight face.

Jungkook got up from the ground which made the fairy took a step back. Jungkook took a step back as well trying to prove he doesn’t want to hurt. Jungkook figured the fairy saw him as a threat.

The fairy raised his brows slightly, waiting for an answer. His stand was very protective and ready to attack.

-I… I-i was just- I mean I came here by accident, well not exactly you see there was this flower and-

The fairy got closer to Jungkook

-Get out of this forest.

He looked deeply in Jungkook’s eyes that gave Jungkook chills. How could those cute eyes could give such cold looks?

-I don’t know how to. There was tree and a hole, well it was more like a cave at this point I don’t know how it was possible but I mean I am saying all of this to a fairy right now so…

Jungkook stopped to look at the fairy. The fairy didn’t interrupt him this time. He was just looking at him.

-I will take you to the gate. Which gate did you use to get here human?

-My name is Jungkook.

-Okay human Jungkook.

The fairy waited for an answer but Jungkook was trying to understand what he meant by “which”. There were other holes in trees that were a gate to this forest? What even is this forest?

-You don’t know which gate you used.

-Yeah…

-I will take you where I found you.

Found me? What the fuck? And with that Jungkook remembered why his head was hurting and he fell asleep in the forest. He got knocked out by the fairy. Jungkook wanted to ask many questions but he guessed the fairy wouldn’t answer him. The fairy grabbed Jungkook by the arm firmly like he is going to run away and started dragging him around the magical forest.

-O- omg, okay there is no need to act like I am a criminal. I can walk on my own.

-Okay. You can never come here, ever again. 

-I won’t. I-I’m sorry…

-Follow me.

They started walking  in the forest in silence. Jungkook tired absorbing every little thing he saw thinking he will never see any of this again.

-Humans are very slow. Can’t you use your legs faster?

-Oh sorry, I’ll walk faster.

Jungkook kept looking at all the unique flowers and plants, along the way making small excitement noises, getting closer and touching some of them while the fairy isn’t looking. Everything about this forest was beautiful to Jungkook and he was really sad he didn’t get to explore it.

-Uhm fairy man sir. Can I ask something?

-My name is Taehyung, the fairy said looking back at Jungkook.

-Okay fairy Taehyung.

Jungkook let out a small laugh saying that and covering his mouth with his hands immediately after.  He looked at the fairy and he had a small smirk on his face as well. Jungkook smiled at the fairy evident this time. Fairy’s cheeks got blushy and turned away from Jungkook avoiding eye contact this time.

-You can ask it.

Jungkook walked next to Taehyung getting a little closer.

-I know you said I should go but maybe I can explore a little bit? This forest is truly a wonder and I…

-You can’t. Humans never respect the nature.

-So you have seen a human before?

Taheyung turned his head to Jungkook

-Well, no. You are the first human I’ve met. There have been no humans in this forest for 700 years.

-Woah, why?

-Cause your kind tried to destroy it. Now they are not allowed to be here.

Jungkook sighed sadly

-Yeah… That’s what my kind does. I understand that you don’t want me here.

The rest of the trip was complete silence. The fairy glimpsed at Jungkook a couple times but Jungkook didn’t see it since he was staring at the floor. He wasn’t looking around with his cute sparkly eyes and checking out everything he found interesting anymore.

When they arrived at the gate Jungkook looked at Taehyung one more time. He was keeping a straight face but he still looked like a pure angel.

-Thank you for bringing me to the gate.

-No problem.

Jungkook bent down to fit in the gate when Taehyung grabbed his arm. Jungkook turned his back and Taehyung looked a little shy, or stressed Jungkook couldn’t tell since he didn’t know him too much.

He was kinda happy that Taehyung stopped him cuz he got to look at that pretty face again. He didn’t know why Taehyung stopped him tho. There was a slim chance that Taehyung somehow forgave all humans and will let him stay but Jungkook tried to not get his hopes too high. He softly raised an eyebrow implementing an explanation from Taehyung.

-Umm… Human could you not tell this forest to anyone? I don’t want to see any humans.

-Oh yeah. I wouldn’t want your forest to be destroyed. And my name is Jungkook.

-Thank you human Jungkook.

-Goodbye fairy Taehyung.

Jungkook finally passes through the gate and comes to the real world. His mind tries to comprehend all the things that happened till he realizes that it’s 3pm. Oh shit Hoseok…

Jungkook takes his phone out of his pocket and calls Hoseok immediately while he starts walking

-Jungkook where the fuck have you been? You were gone for almost two and a half hours now.

-Uhh.. I got lost. Yeah, that’s what happened.

-You got lost? Jungkook?  The human compass himself?

-Yeah I don’t know how it happened.

-Well did you find your way?

-Yeah I’ll come to you now. Where are you?

-I got back to the car after I couldn’t find you.

-Okay I’m coming there.

-I’m waiting

Jungkook sighed and kept on walking. All the things that happened to him in the last two and a half hours felt like a fever dream. He saw a fairy. A GOD DAMN FAIRY. He wanted to tell Hoseok all the details but he said he wouldn’t tell anyone. That forest was absolutely gorgeous and like Taehyung said “humans destroy”. He was right about that. He saw so many “accidental” forest fires that were put out just in time to only burn enough space to build a hotel. He couldn’t even imagine what humans would do if they found out about a magical forest. He had to keep it a secret.

Flower… The flower! Omg what if someone else sees it? What if they discover the forest just like I did? I can’t leave the flower there.

Jungkook turns back to get the magical flower. He runs as fast as he can like there are other researchers trying to find the flower. When he gets there he lets out a big sigh in relief seeing the flower is still there. He picks it up very carefully not damaging the roots and softly putting it into one of his flower jars. He puts the jar in his backpack and runs back to the car. This time to not make Hoseok wait any longer.

-Hey Kookie. Why are you so sweaty?

-Oh… I got hot.

-The weather is pretty cool.

-I ran.

-You didn’t need to.

-No I already made you wait so much.

-It’s fine. I loved the east side. Just don’t close your phone next time. I called you at least 20 times before you called me and I couldn’t reach you. I also called you from the walkie-talkie and you still didn’t answer.

-My phone wasn’t closed.

Both my phone and walkie-talkie must have been out of signal when I was in the magical forest.

-Oh, my phone was on plane mode. Sorry hyung.

-Like I said it’s fine just don’t do it again. Now jump on the car cause Yoongi won’t wait  for us to eat.

Jungkook got in the car laughing and Hoseok joined him.

It was the next morning and Jungkook came to the east side with Hoseok again.

-I don’t understand how we can’t find the flower. Are you sure it was here?

-Yes hyung. You know I never get lost.

-You did yesterday tho.

Jungkook actually didn’t get lost. And he wasn’t lost this time either. He made Hoseok walk to another place although the plant was in his backpack. He didn’t want to risk anything.

-Yeah… He put his hand behind his neck fake laughing and smiling

-Jungkookie are you okay? You seem off.

I’m not okay hyung. I’m really not okay. I saw a fairy yesterday. A real one. And I can’t even talk about it with anyone cause it needs to stay as a secret. I tried sleeping last night and all I could think about was that stupid handsome fairy and his stupid magical forest.

-Yeah I’m fine. Just couldn’t sleep very well.

-Oh okay. I will make you some coffee when we get to the camp area.

Hoseok smiled to Jungkook which made Jungkook smile for real this time. If Jungkook could describe Hoseok with one word it would be sunshine. No matter what he is worried about, Hoseok would calm him down just by existing. He always saw him as an older brother he never had. Even as a parent. Jungkook is a very hardworking and ambitious person. It has been his dream to be a biologist since he was 10. And when he was 14, he got into a very prestigious boarding school leaving his family. He finished high school in two years by taking extra classes, studying all day and barely getting any sleep. He was alone for a long time till he met his work team and in these two years, Jungkook saw them as family.

-Since we can’t find the flower it’s best to let it go. Is that okay with you Jungkook?

-Yeah, that’s good.

They both took their notebooks and started searching the area to identify more plants. It got pretty hard to find new species after the first month. Jungkook already identified 37 species in the east side. That means he found the most common plants in the area. Now he needed to find the rare ones which took him at least 3 to 4 days just to find one.

-Jungkookie do we have titanopsis calcarea* in the list?

-I don’t think we do. Let me check.

He opened his notebook and checked a couple pages then looked at Hoseok.

-No we don’t.

Hoseok smiled and took out his supplies to examine the plant closer. Jungkook stood next to Hoseok watching him very carefully.

-You are awesome Hobi Hyung. You found it so easily.

-It’s all about focusing. Don’t get frustrated you will get better at it.

Jungkook watched Hoseok examining the plant till he got bored.

-Hyung I’m going to keep looking if that’s okay with you.

-Yeah, just don’t forget to open your phone when I call you. My job will be done in about 30 minutes.

Jungkook laughed in tiny while taking his backpack from the ground.

-I won’t forget don’t worry.

He walked through the beautiful forest as he looked though every plant very carefully. He hated these times where he couldn’t find any new information to work with. Jungkook was an impatient perfectionist and throughout his life he never failed at anything he did. But when he first joined his work team he did many mistakes and struggled a lot. Now of course he was better at his job but he was still struggling from time to time.

Hobi hyung already found a new plant. I don’t think I’ll come across to another one.  I guess I can just enjoy this beauty. As Jungkook breathed in the fresh smell of the soil he sat on the grass and leaned against one of the oak trees. He looked at the forest and getting amazed by it like it’s the first day he has seen it. The forest seemed even prettier to Jungkook’s eyes today. The veins of the trees looking so pleasing like it were carved by an artist, the leaves dancing with harmonization to the wind, the sun peeking through the fluffy white clouds and making every plant shine, it was all too perfect. In times like this Jungkook loved capturing the moment. Not by taking a picture, but by drawing.

He took his backpack and opened it to find his drawing sheets and paints. As he looked through his bag his eye got caught to the magical flower again. He looked around to see if Hoseok was in sight and when he didn’t see him he took the jar out of his backpack.

-You are so beautiful. I wish I got to explore where you came from. But looks like I’ve been 700 years late to do that…

He putted the jar back and took out his art supplies. He started to sketch out the trees and the flowers. He loved drawing, it really gave peace to him. But even drawing was not enough to get over that forest.

Ughh. It was so pretty. I wish Taehyung didn’t find me that early so I could explore a little bit. I wonder if he always hangs out there. Maybe if he doesn’t I could explore it a little bit- But no I said I won’t go there again.

He kept on sketching while his brain was full of messy thoughts. He was desperate to go to that forest again. He took the flower jar out of his backpack again and held it with both of his hands.

-You are so pretty. I can’t even believe that you are real. You are out of this world. Literally. I don’t even know why I’m talking to you. No offense.

He smiled at the flower. He couldn’t take his eyes off it. He kept staring at it till he sound footsteps.

-Shit.

While he was trying to hide the flower as quick as he can he saw where the footsteps came from.

-Oh, so it was you little bunny. You scared me there.

He took the flower jar that was behind him and continued to look at it. Every single time he looked at the flower, he saw a new detail he has never seen on a flower before.

-You know we were screwed if that bunny was Hobi hyung.

As he said those words Jungkook started to think.

-Well, I guess that could have been Hobi hyung. And he could have seen you. That would be terrible. What would I even do if he saw it? How would I explain?

He stopped and looked at the flower like he was waiting for a response. He waited a moment than started talking again.

-Anyone could open my bag really. It would be even worse if someone at the camp found you. But I can’t leave you here it’s even more dangerous. I guess the only choice is-

He couldn’t stop but smile.

-To take you to the forest.

-Hey there beauty- No that is stupid you idiot. Hey there, it’s great to see you. That sounds awful. Fuck…

Jungkook sighed as he rest his back to the gate. You are just going to give back the flower and that’s it. That’s all. Taehyung wont be angry. And if he does, on the bright side I will see his cute angry face. Wtf Jungkook what are you thinking?

He stood and fixed his unironed black graphic t-shirt, took a deep breath and crouched down to get in the gate. His sweaty palms were now brown because of the dirt as well as his bare knees. When he got through the gate the light dazzled him like he was about to faint. When he finally managed to get on his feet and see everything properly, he was even more dazzled by the view. The baby blue sky was seasoned by pastel pink clouds and the bright sun was glowing, making every plant it touches shine. Jungkook absorbed the view that he thought he would never see again. It was so pretty.

As Jungkook was looking through every little detail his eyes could possibly see, he felt his body being tossed in a tree his head shaking and the world getting blurry for a moment.

-T-Taehyung…

-You came back. After I told you not to. You came back. You need to leave.

-But Taehyu-

-NOW. I SAID LEAVE NOW.

Taehyung put his hand firmly against the tree making Jungkook startled. Not even a second after his furious energy disappears and Taehyung sighs heavily.

-You should go home.

Jungkook doesn’t move a muscle due to his shock and stands as he looks at Taehyung. Taehyung reaches his hand to Jungkook slowly and Jungkook starts moving and getting further from Taehyung afraid he will do something bad.

-I’m- I’m so sorry.

He was shaking like crazy and his mind was blurry. He couldn’t put the words together in his head and it was all a mess. What was I thinking? I should have never come back.

-I will leave. I just- I just wanted to-

Jungkook reaches to his backpack to take the flower jar as Taehyung silently waits.

-Here. This was how I found the forest. I thought that maybe someone else will find it like I did so I took it with me. But I was still afraid that someone would look at my bag. Umm… Your forest is beautiful and I- I wouldn’t want to see it getting ruined.

Jungkook looks at Taehyung as he hands over the flower and Taehyung looks surprised. His mouth is slightly open his eyes are very big and it looks like he is blushing. He gathers his self as he takes the jar away from Jungkook’s hands. He shakes his head a little and looks at Jungkook.

-Thank you for bringing the flower. I really appreciate it. You look like a really thoughtful human. I am apologizing for being rough a second ago.  

Jungkook was confused and surprised by how fast Taehyung’s mood and expressions change. He couldn’t really blame him for being angry. He didn’t know much about Taehyung but he knew he cared about this forest and he saw Jungkook as a threat. He didn’t want to question how easy it was for him to be calm after being really furious, since it was a pro for Jungkook. For someone who seems to really hate humans, Taehyung was really calm to Jungkook.

-It’s okay, really.

He smiles at Jungkook and opens the jar. He takes the plants in his hands gracefully and bends down to put it back in the soil. He gets the roots inside the soil and then he closes his eyes. He touches the soil again and the soil starts glowing green. Jungkook watches Taehyung very carefully and curious his eyes turning into bambi eyes.

-That was so cool.

Taehyung looks at Jungkook as he stands up and Jungkook can see him blushing again. He smiles.

-It’s a simple spell really he says as he puts his hand on his head looking down.

He looks up again to see Jungkook’s and he is still smiling. He is not doing it on purpose but something just makes him keep smiling. He realizes he has smiled for too long when his face starts to hurt and he relaxes his face.

-Umm… I should probably go now that I’ve gave you the flower.

He looks around the pretty forest one more time and looks at Taehyung again.

-Goodbye.

He turns around with a slightly sad face and then stops. He turns his back again to look at Taehyung and Taehyung is walking towards him too.

-Hey human!

-Jungkook

-Oh yeah human Jungkook.

Jungkook giggles a little and turns fully to Taehyung.

-Yes fairy Taehyung?

-I… What you did showed how much you cared about the forest and I… Well…

He stopped for a moment and gulped. He was playing with his fingers and avoiding eye contact.

-You said you wanted to explore the forest right?

-Yes I did.

-I think I can let you stay. For a short while only. Just as a thank you. Then you must forget about this forest.

Jungkook couldn’t believe what he has heard. He blinks rapidly as he tries to consume the word he had heard from Taehyung.

Taehyung looks at Jungkook waiting for an answer, playing with his fingers even more.

-OFCOURSE. THANK YOU SO MUCH TAHEYUNG I- I WILL BE VERY QUICK AND CAREFULL DON’T WORRY.

He claps happily and does tiny jumps and smile so big that it feels like his mouth is going to rip apart. Taehyung has a big smile in his face which Jungkook doesn’t notice. When he finally looks at Taehyung his smile turns into a more calm face, he sweeps his pink hair out of his face and starts walking. After a couple steps he looks back at Jungkook:

-Are you coming?

Jungkook walks fast to catch up to Taheyung and starts walking beside him.

Jungkook and Taheyung start walking around the magical forest. They walk for a while, stop when Jungkook sees something interesting (which is basically everything but he tries to not look at everything and annoy Taehyung), let Jungkook looking and examining while Taehyung is watching over him and then keep on walking. Everything is so new and exciting for Jungkook. If you told him he would be in a magical forest with a fairy exploring plants and flowers, he would not believe you. But here he was, in a magical forest, with a fairy, exploring. Everything felt like a dream. A dream he didn’t want to wake up from…

-Woah what are you? You look really cute

Jungkook leans over to a purple mushroom with sparkly pink dots to look at it closer till he hears Taehyung’s loud voice.  He turns his head to Taehyung seeing he is running towards him. Before Jungkook can even do anything Taehyung jumps over him and throws both of them on the grass. Their face meets very closely and Jungkook can feel Taehyung’s heavy breath in his face. Taehyung’s hands are on Jungkook’s shoulders, pushing himself up slightly so they have space between their faces. The small gap between his lips showing his two front teeth, his hair all over his face being messy in the prettiest way possible, his eyes being attached to Jungkook’s. Jungkook is on the grass feeling the weight of Taehyung, his heart beating like crazy, his chest hovering from the ground touching Taehyung’s chest every time he breathes.

They stay in this position for some time, the tension getting higher. Taehyung doesn’t take his eyes of off Jungkook for a split second. He finally blinks when Jungkook’s shoulder moves slightly and gets of off Jungkook quickly yet carefully, his wings clapping and blowing the air on Jungkook’s face and the weight on his shoulders disappearing. Jungkook doesn’t move a muscle while Taehyung is getting off him and even after that he finds it difficult the move and just stays on the ground for a bit while Taehyung is sweeping the dust from his silky cream shirt. Jungkook finally gets up and gets close to Taehyung right away not bothering with weeping the dust away.

-W-why did you push me? I-I wasn’t expecting it, he says blushing and smirking uncontrollably.

-The mushroom you were getting close to is surrounded by poisonous veins around it.

-Oh… I didn’t know that. Thanks Taehyung.

-No problem human- sorry. He smiles softly and takes a breath looking at Jungkook.

-No problem Jungkook. And sorry for jumping on you I wasn’t sure if I had enough time to stop you. I don’t know how strong the human body is, it only hurts us but it might kill you. And I was wonde-

- It’s okay Taehyung don’t get worried.

He puts his hand on Taehyung shoulders and smiles. His hand was shaking so much but he hopes Taehyung didn’t realize. It’s a shoulder. A FUCKING SHOULDER HOW CAN IT BE SO GENTLE AND PRETTY? He gulps and takes his hand to his pocket trying to hide the shaking. The over thinking is taking over Jungkook’s mind and now in this magical forest that he was so curious to explore, his mind was only filled with Taehyung.

Jungkook keeps on exploring for a while avoiding talking to Taehyung. His mind was already too busy and saying anything to him would just make it worse. He tried his best to focus on the plants but his mind was now taken over.

-Hey, fairy Taehyung. Why did you say fairy again you stupid? Just say his name. Ughh idiot.

Taehyung stands still raising his eyebrows arms crossed:

-Yeah Jungkook?

-Umm… Well- I was- Ugh… I am sorry.

-Why are you sorry?

-I am- you know… Just-

-You are stressed. Why are you stressed?

-My mind is just blurry. Sorry.

-Do humans always apologize this much?

Jungkook giggles nervously and blushes again. Fuckkkk

-Not all humans.

-Oh…Interesting.

Jungkook looks around trying to figure out what he’ll say and Taehyung breaks the short silence.

-Jungkook.

Jungkook looks at Taehyung and their nervous eyes meet. His mind is too complicated to even notice Taehyung is nervous right now.

-I saw you do some cool things to the plants you looked at and…

He takes a deep breath and stretches his neck soft blinking a couple times and looking at Jungkook again. Jungkook has his full focus on Taehyung waiting patiently for him to finish his sentence.

-And I was interested in it. You also seem like a good human. Maybe you can sometimes come to the forest… And maybe teach me how to those cool things. It’s like a knowledge exchange.

-I- I don’t know what to say.

How do you not know what to say you idiot? Just say yes for god’s sake.

Taehyung is biting inside his cheek, moving his eyes and his head constantly yet very subtle hoping he doesn’t look too desperate. He does. Any person with a slight consciousness would realize the tiny drops of sweats in his forehead, the look in his face that looks like he just ate a sour candy and tries to act like it didn’t affect him, the constant movement in his body waiting for an answer. But Jungkook was completely in another world, his thoughts over Taehyung was so loud he couldn’t see the real Taehyung that was in front of him

-Yes. Of course yes. I would do anything to come here again. And you are a great fairy too I would love to teach you.

-AWOSOME, Taehyung says loudly with a happy tune to it. Jungkook realizes his smile now that his mind is better.

Taehyung doesn’t hate me. AND I am going to teach him stuff and I am going to see him again. And maybe his smile. Fuck he smiles so good.

-Your smile is nice.

FUCK. I SAID THAT OUT LOUD. FUCK FUCK FUCK

-My what?

FUCK. JUNGKOOK ARE YOU STUPID!?

-You- Your- Ummm… I said that- Oh shit it’s really late. I should go and do… Uh plant stuff. You know, haha.

Jungkook tries to fake laugh while Taehyung is looking at him with an innocent face.

You are so embarrassing Jeon Jungkook…

-Then I will come again soon Taehyung.  Is there a way I can find you or-

-Come from the gate you always come from. You can come whenever you want, just come after the sun set okay?

-Okay. I’ll do it like that. Thanks for trusting me.

A smirk has appeared on Taehyung’s face.  He sniffled his nose and looked at Jungkook.

-I think your smile is pretty too, but not the fake one. Goodbye human Jungkook.

He got high from the ground with his long see though wings and started flying and slowly getting lost in the clouds before Jungkook could say anything. The small breeze Taehyung’s wings caused smoothly brushed Jungkook’s red cheeks. His mind stopped. There were no more loud noises and thoughts surrounding his head. All he could hear were the echoes of the seven beautiful words

-Ugh… I can’t do this anymore hyung.

It has been 6 days since Jungkook saw Taehyung. It also has been six days since Jungkook got any improvement on his work. He never struggled with getting his work done but these days have been different. He couldn’t help himself that he was constantly thinking about the magical forest.

-Jungkook it’s only noon. Don’t be dramatic, Yoongi said arms crossed.

-If I can’t identify a plant today I am going to lose my mind.

-I know you will find it. Just focus on the plants instead of zoning out. You do that a lot these days.

As much as Jungkook didn’t want to admit it, it was true.

-Yeah I know.

Jungkook sighed and rubbed his eyes harshly trying to wake himself up. On top of not being able to do his work, he also lost all interest in sleeping. He mostly drew pictures and created fake scenarios in his head at nights. He was basically a mess. He didn’t know why he was so obsessed with that forest. Sure, it was magical but the forest he is working on wasn’t boring. He loved the east side and working there yet he only wanted to work in the magical forest. Maybe the only reason he wanted to go to the magical forest wasn’t the flowers… But that was for another day. Right now he needed to focus on work and act like the magical forest doesn’t exist.

-You are okay, right Jungkook?

-Oh yeah, I’m fine. Just tired.

-You are always tired, Yoongi said with a quiet voice and a frown. Not the type of frown you make when you are angry, the type of frown you make when you are worried.

-I can’t get much sleep these days. My mind is quite busy.

-Why? What is keeping it busy?

A forest I accidently found that turns out to be magical and the fairy that lives there and the fact that it’s all I can think about yet I am too anxious to go back but I physically can’t think about anything else and I can’t even tell it to anyone or even write it in my diary it’s so exhausting and mentally draining.

-Uhh… You know, stuff.

-Try to focus okay? If you need to talk you can come to me.

Yoongi smiled and got back to his work. He wasn’t the best at comforting people but he tried his best when it came to Jungkook and it was more than enough for him.

-Okay hyung, I’ll try.

Jungkook spent his next 5 hours giving all his focus –or at least trying- to do his work. After all, other than an over thinker, he was also an overachiever. In the five hours he had worked, he caught up on all the data he needed to write and got very close to identify a species. He was proud of himself for letting go of the thought of that forest for a while and do what he enjoys. See Jungkook? You are fine. It’s not like you are going crazy or anything. You are doing fine.

Jungkook heard Yoongi’s voice from afar:

-Hey Jungkook, jump in the car the shift is over.

-I will in a minute but I am so close to identifying this plant just wait for a while.

-Okay, be quick tho.

Jungkook’s hands started working in full speed, his mind working in a true organization. He didn’t even realize how focused he was. It was like a force helping him to be better. A healing force.

-I’m done.

-That was fast.

-As you wished for.

Yoongi smiled and walked to the car.

-Do you wanna drive?

-Sure.

He looked at the area he worked before sitting in the driver’s seat. It looked normal. Nothing different was spotted by Jungkook. But it felt different. He felt even more connected with the trees and flowers and every living thing. The feeling reminded him the magical forest.

Oh shit, here we go again. After many days he was finally far from his thoughts about the magical forest but it only lasted a couple hours. It was exhausting trying to balance his life and his thoughts of the magical forest and Taehyung. The only solution felt like going there again but it wasn’t that easy for Jungkook. He would die to go there immediately, but he also was very afraid. Afraid that Taehyung would not be satisfied with him and never let him enter the forest again. A million different scenarios where Jungkook ruins everything, running around his head. Of course his thoughts weren’t based on anything. He was paranoid. It was an endless cycle and he needed to break it before he gets lost in the cycle.

A new day. A new start. Another chance to meet up with Taehyung.

Today is the day, decided Jungkook. Today was the day he would leave all his negative thoughts behind and go to the forest to teach Taehyung some plant biology. It should be exciting. Nothing will go wrong. You can do it Jungkook.

He got out of his RV to look for breakfast when he smelled something delicious.

-Is this-

-Yeah, Hoseok is making us ramen for breakfast. Good huh?

-Very good. It already looks amazing hyung.

-No problem Jungkookie, Hoseok said with a smile brighter than the morning sun. He kept on stirring the ramen pot while Yoongi came near him hugging from behind. Hoseok giggled and turned his head, giving Yoongi a kiss on the cheek.

Jungkook looked at them with adoration.

-Aww, Does hyung want back hugs too? Soobin comes close to Jungkook hugging him very tight like his ribcages were falling apart.

-Hey Soobin. Looks like you are having a great day.

-Yeah hyung, says Soobin excitedly.

-We have been working on a plant for two weeks and yesterday night I found it’s species. Can you believe it?

-Woah, so happy for you Soobin.

As Soobin continues to talk, Jungkook forgets to listen to him and gets lost in his own mind.

-So, what do you think?

-It-it’s really great Soobin.

-You shitty liar. The last thing I said was that you forgot to zip your pants.

Soobin pushed Jungkook softly while Jungkook checked his pants.

-Sorry for not listening.

-What were thinking about?

-uhh…

Jungkook couldn’t hold it in anymore. One way or another he needed to tell someone. He was even struggling doing the things he liked, like talking to Soobin.

-Not much. Just a place I saw in the east side.

 -Oh what was it like?

-I don’t know. It’s hard to describe.

-Maybe I can come someday and see

-No you can’t.

-Why?

-Cuz you can’t.

Hoseok came over to the tense atmosphere without knowing and put their ramen bowls on the table.

-Enjoy your breakfast bunnies.

Soobin and Jungkook looked and smiled to Hoseok.

-Thanks hyung, they said in a harmony.

As Hoseok left the table to serve the rest of the crew, Soobin and Jungkook were back to their tense conversation.

-You are keeping a secret from me.

-No I’m not.

Jungkook stopped for a moment, sighing to himself. He knew he couldn’t lie to Soobin. Why was he even trying to do so?

-Yes, I am, Jungkook said head turned downwards.

-We are besties. Why are you keeping a secret from me?

-It’s complicated.

-You can tell me anything, you know that right?

-I know, just this thing… It’s a bit different. I’m keeping the secret for someone else.

-Oh… Well if you ever need to get it out, I am an excellent secret keeper.

Jungkook knew that. He trusted Soobin with his life. But a promise was a promise no matter how much he needed to break it.

-Thank you

Soobin never felt like an ex to Jungkook. He felt comfortable around him, someone he could be himself without doubting. That was why he had a crush in him when they first met. Now they were very good friends, and Jungkook was happy with it. His love life was a terrible mess and Soobin was the only exception.

After Soobin ate his noodles he hugged Jungkook and went to his shift. Jungkook helped washing the dishes and got in his RV to get ready. He rummaged through his clothes trying to find wearable. He finally decided on some black shorts and black oversize hoodie with a butterfly print.

-This will do.

He got outside and looked around to find Yoongi.

-Oh, hyung.

He waved his hand and Yoongi waved back.

-Yes?

-I will stay a little longer today. Do you mind if we go in separate cars?

-No problem for me. You know I am really happy you are getting back to work.

Jungkook smiled at Yoongi with guilt. He couldn’t tell him the real reason he was staying and lying constantly hurt Jungkook to its core.

Jungkook spent his day filling his research book and taking pictures of some flowers. The weather got warmer by noon, so Jungkook kept working with a tight fitted grey shirt that he wore under his hoodie. When the afternoon came and the sun started setting, giving the sky a pastel tint, Jungkook got up from the grass and put his equipment on his backpack. He tied his hoodie to his thin waist and started walking to the gate.

His heart was beating rapidly and he felt his body drowning in his sweat. He got into the gate and took a deep breath to stop for a second. His anxiety mostly turned into excitement, which was good. He took another deep breath and as he exhaled, he entered the magical forest. The forest was as beautiful as Jungkook remembered. He grabbed his tight shirt and swiped his sweat on it. He looked around if Taehyung was here, but he wasn’t. It has only been a minute since you got here. It’s not like he would wait for you in front of the gate. He sat cross-legged on the soft grass surrounded by fluffy bushes. He looked through his equipment waiting for Taehyung.

-I see that you came.

Jungkook drops his flower book in fright, calming immediately when he looked up to see Taehyung.

-Hi Taheyung. Yea-Yeah I came.

-Hello Jungkook. Did I scare you?

-Just a little bit. It’s fine, he said smiling.

-Did you feel my message?

-Your what?

-I’ve sent you a positive aura since you didn’t come back for some time.

Jungkook did felt something different today but it never crossed his mind that it was about Taehyung. The thought of Taehyung thinking about him gave him butterflies.

-Yeah, I did. Thanks.

He got up on his feet to get to Taehyung’s level.

-So… What do you want to learn today?

-Hmm…

Taehyung scratched his chin looking around. He bent over to grab Jungkook’s flower book and looked at him with smiling eyes:

-Can we look at this?

Jungkook giggled softly. Taehyung’s pink hair was matching the color of the sky, his long fingers grabbing the book graciously, his skin glowing, everything about him was perfect.

-Of course we can.

As Jungkook crouched to sit down Taehyung held his hand.

-I know a better place we can read.

Using Taehyung’s hand as support he picked himself up. He felt like his hands were sweating again so he let go of Taehyung’s hand and wiped it to his hoodie.

-Where is the place?

-Follow me.

Taehyung pressed the book to his chest as he started walking and Jungkook followed him. While walking they didn’t talk much. Jungkook wanted to start a conversation but was too shy.

-We got close. I forget how slow walking is.

This is your chance Jungkook. 

-Do you usually fly?

-Mostly yes. It comes easier to me. I love flying. It makes me feel free and with every stoke of wind touching my skin I feel more alive.

-Woah.

Taehyung gets shy and starts walking faster. He then slows down again, inhaling and looking at Jungkook.

-Sorry if I talked unnecessary.

-No no no. I like it when you talk.

-Oh, okay then.

After that, Jungkook and Taehyung encountered in some small talk. They mostly talked about plants and flowers. Jungkook figured Taehyung was interested in plants from the start but he didn’t know he was this passionate about it. He liked passionate Taehyung.

-We arrived.

Jungkook stopped and embraced the scenery. He never thought the forest could look more ethereal but he was wrong. The place Taehyung took him was a small pound surrounded by big willow trees. The face of the sky was clear, no clouds in sight and filled with small sparkly stars. The fresh breeze was making the trees dance and with the birds in pastel colors chipping, it was nothing less than a recital.

In front of the lake, there was a bench carved with pretty renaissance patterns and shapes made with a white and grey marble material. It seemed like snow quartz to Jungkook but he wasn’t sure.

Taehyung sat on the bench and waggled his legs waiting for Jungkook to sit too. Sitting next to the big trees and flowers, Taehyung looked so small and Jungkook thought it was cute. Jungkook sat next to Taehyung and looked at his pretty face that was enlightened by the soft moon light that started rising above the lake. Jungkook couldn’t take in Taehyung’s beauty. He wondered if all the fairies were pretty like him. His bone structure was exposed by the moon light his jaw line looking sharp as a knife yet his cheeks looking soft as ever.

Jungkook admired Taehyung for a long time, losing track of time while doing so. All of his concentration disappeared when Taehyung turned over to Jungkook. He hoped Taehyung didn’t realize he was staring at him for so long but the soft smile appearing on Taehyung’s glossy pink lips said otherwise.

-Shall we start?

-Sure.

Jungkook opened the first page of the book that was laying on Taehyung’s lap. His hands slightly touched Taehyung but he moved his hand very quickly.

-So the first one is a Nasturtium.

-Nasturtium, Taehyung murmured while patting the picture in the book.

-Nasturtium is the common name of Tropaeolum majus. It is a fast-growing plant, with trailing stems growing to 3–6 ft. The leaves are large, nearly circular, 3 to 15 centimeters  in diameter, green to glaucous green above, paler below; they are peltate, with the 5–30 cm long petiole near the middle of the leaf, with several veins radiating to the smoothly rounded or slightly lobed margin.

As Jungkook kept on giving information about the flowers Taehyung listened to him very carefully, never getting his eyes of off him, which made Jungkook’s job so much harder knowing all of Taehyung’s attention was on him.

The more Jungkook talked the more he got more comfortable and wasn’t that stressed at the fact that Taehyung was staring and trying to absorb every inch of him with his sparkly green eyes. Now, the right side of the book was on Taehyung’s lap and left side on Jungkook’s. There was no space between them and while they did reading, there would only be a few centimeters between their faces and Jungkook could feel Taehyung’s warm breath in his face.

-This is so amazing Jungkook.

Taehyung turned to the next page and looked at Jungkook with excited eyes, waiting for more information. While Taehyung was full of energy, Jungkook was the opposite. He hadn’t slept properly for days and it started to really hit him. Taehyung noticed Jungkook was tired too, seeing his eye bags appearing darker and his eyes getting smaller.

-Hey, Jungkook.

-Yeah?

-You look tired. Are you tired?

-No, no. Let’s continue.

-We already read half of the book. I don’t want to finish all the information in one day.

Taehyung smiled at Jungkook gave a soft smile in exchange.

Jungkook didn’t looked at his phone since he got here so therefore he had no idea what time it was but judging by the sky it  has definitely passed 8pm. Time flied when he was with Taehyung .

They started watching the pretty view together, getting even closer without realizing cause of the weather getting colder.

-If you want you can look around. I learned so much information but you didn’t get to do much.

-No. I would rather watch the view with you.

-Okay then.

Even more time has passed and it almost became mid night. The chilly weather and the warm Taehyung combining made Jungkook fell asleep in Taehyung’s chest without knowing. No one ones when he fell asleep or how long he slept but if it wasn’t for Taehyung calling out Jungkook’s name, he would have slept forever.

-Jungkook, Jungkook! Look.

Jungkook wakes up in a shock, his mind confused and panicked.

-Wha- What? Taehyung? I- Did I sleep?

He very quickly tried to get up, failing miserably and falling to the ground, looking up to Taehyung seeing that he is looking at him kindly and comforting.

-You don’t need to panic.

-I- Fuck did I really sleep?

-Yes you did sleep.

Jungkook rubbed his face roughly getting up from the ground. 

-Sorry Taehyung.

-Why?

-Cause… You know.

-If you are sorry for sleeping, don’t be. I didn’t mind it and you seemed tired anyways.

-Thanks. For letting me sleep. It was the best one I got in days.

-No problem.

Taehyung stood up and walked over to Jungkook holding the book.

-While you were sleeping on my shoulder I searched the book some more.

 He grabbed a flower from his pocket and gave it to Jungkook.

-Is this violet?

Jungkook looked at the flower closely for a while.

-I can’t be %100 percent sure without search, but it seems like it. You have natural talent.

-Really?

Jungkook had never seen Taehyung’s eyes bigger.

-Yeah. He said laughing silently.

-Oh also Jungkook, in the book…

Jungkook yawned again stretching his shoulders.

Before Jungkook could tell Taehyung anything they started walking to the gate. It was no secret that Jungkook was tired, but he wouldn’t mind staying here longer. While walking he debated rather he should ask to stay longer but he thought it was late for Taehyung too so he didn’t say anything.

Jungkook giggled as he waved.
