The one thing Adora wished She-Ra was able to do was turn back time...
It really was a silly thought when she dwelled on it for too long.
It really was an unattainable thing, but she would have been able to do so much with it.
She felt like a little girl again, dreaming unlikely scenarios in her head for fun.
She loved She-Ra, she was She-Ra, and she was finally at a place in her life where she could do that.
Everything she could do as She-Ra was nothing short of amazing really. She knew that was true. She could turn her sword into anything she envisioned. She had super-strength, she grew to be eight feet tall, and she had a stamina much longer than any other person on Etheria.
She really shouldn’t wish for more, but that dream was always there.
Adora had come to enjoy walking. It wasn’t tense, it allowed for her to be able to relax with out really relaxing.
After the War ended she always found herself on walks. They would constantly vary in length and time, from just 30 minutes to multiple hours long.
Sometimes when she went out, Glimmer and Bow would look at her concerned. She didn’t think much of it anymore, she used to get annoyed with their constant worrying, but now she almost appreciated it. They cared.
She knew they worried about almost everything she did nowadays anyways.
Sometimes Glimmer would always try to catch her as she left in the mornings. She would wake her self up at the same ‘outrageous’ hours despite being the one to love sleeping in the most.
She knew Glimmer hated it. Adora could appreciate the company though.
She even got Bow to come with her most of the time. He definitely seemed to enjoy it more.
After a while Glimmer and Bow accompanied her less, probably because they worried less. It didn’t stop their hovering though.
When Adora did get to walk alone however, she was strangely reminded of her time in the horde.
She always used to wake up extremely early so she could train with out distractions. To be a good soldier.
She wasn’t a soldier anymore, she had to remind herself.
The war was over. She could let herself be happy. She could have her own dreams and desires...but she still felt empty with out a task.
So she tasked herself to walking, and maybe she would have the occasional dream and wish.
On one particular walk Adora thought about everything she could do, should have done, had She-Ra been given the ability to turn back time.
Adora slowed down her walking as she came to the field.
This was the field she usually arrived at when ever she walked. No matter when she left, or how long she was here, she made it a point to come to this field.
As she humored herself on what she would do when given the opportunity to turn back time, she probably would have stayed with Catra.
That was her most selfish thought.
She should want to turn back time and stop the horde early. Save Etheria, defeat Horde Prime, but nope.
If she could go back she would just want to stay with Catra, as selfish as it was.
Adora continued her walking, her boots brushing against the grass, and came to the familiar stone.
Maybe she could have been able to save her.
All she really wanted was to help people, and Catra was the person her thoughts would always drift back to.
Adora sat down in the grass just a few feet away from the stone. Her hand began to fiddle with the tiny blades.
She stared into the stone and squinted at it.
She wasn’t sure what her feelings were towards the rock yet.
On one hand it held remembrance. It marked what a person leaves behind.
That was how Glimmer explained it to her as anyways.
The Horde just marked people off when they died. No funerals because they were soldiers, it was a war. They had to stay focused and professional.
No stones marking a grave with messages to the departed. No loving words etched around their name.
Adora continued to stare at the stone, though now it was more in something akin to contempt.
Here lies Catra.
An ambitious and cunning person
And a good friend.
Adora bit her lip as she struggled to keep the tears back again.
The stupid stone always seemed to make her cry.
“Hey Adora.”
Her heart beat immediately jumped into her chest at the sound of Catra’s voice. It sounded like Catra.
She hurried to turn around, but instead of Catra she was met with Glimmer’s concerned features.
Adora let herself take in a breath.
“Hi Glimmer.” She said, as she turn back around to face the stone.
“You were going to miss breakfast, Bow brought his dads to visit. We thought you would like to join us.”
Adora just nodded mutely as she stood up.
“Yeah, sorry.” She mumbled as she dug into her pocket. It was a small piece of paper. Crinkled from Adora constantly clinging to it.
Adora had been meaning to leave it here for a while.
“You go ahead, I’ll be right behind you.” Adora told her.
Glimmer seemed to be analyzing her, “You sure? I don’t mind waiting.” She told her.
Adora gave her a small smile back, “I’m sure.”
Glimmer glanced at the piece of paper tucked into her hand then back up to her face before returning her smile.
“Ok, I’m saving you a seat next to me though.” She said before turning to walk off.
Adora waited until she saw Glimmer’s head disappear over the hill, before leaning down to place the paper just under the stone.
She placed a smaller rock over it so it wouldn’t blow away.
She turned to leave, but hesitated in her steps.
“I- I’m sorry Catra.” She said.
She tried to imagine Catra rolling her eyes at her for being sappy.
“ Yeah, yeah, save the apologies. You’re such an idiot...” She would say before laughing.
Gods Adora missed her laugh.
“I love you.” Adora said next, “I’ll be back tomorrow.”
She brushed the grass stains of her pants before turning and running back to Glimmer.
She could walk and dream again tomorrow.
