Work Text:
****Hi guys! A short note, this is just based off a dream I had one night. And also a small headcanon I thought would be adorable if it was real. The character is someone I created, and coincidentally the girl in the cover photo.
But anyways I hope you guys like it, it's a bit different than my other work. I'm also watching Fruits Basket right now so I might start something based off that soon.*****Enjoy..
(Also think of Senjuro as a few years younger than he is now, about when how young Kyojuro is when he first becomes the flame hashira.)

You heard him coming. His laughter filled the air. It had been so long since you'd seen him last. He'd been on a mission for about a month now, and his letters just didn't do him justice. It sounded like he was talking to himself, but in reality it was probably him informing his crow to tell everyone he had arrived back at the Rengoku estate.
His crow had reached you a day ago, telling you he'd be home shortly. You'd raced from your family's estate several miles away, arriving this morning. Senjuro had raced up to you, hugging your legs. You smiled and lifted him up, hugging him tight.
"I missed you Senjuro, I was just here the other day," you said, spinning him around until his giggles filled the air.
"I know Riori-chan, but you always end up leaving too," he replied, a sad expression taking over his small features. The conversation turned sad quickly. You tried to switch the subject.
"Senjuro, we have to get everything ready. Kyo will be home soon!" You answered and his face lit up at the mention of his idolized older brother.
"I'm on it," he said, and ran off. No doubt to get something ready for his brother's return. You smiled, but not a full one. You tried to come over often, to see Senjuro. But you couldn't always be there.
But, today was the day. You could hear him coming up the walk, until he reached the front gate. Senjuro was already there, opening the gate for him. Kyo's face broke into a full face grin at his younger brother.
"SENJURO! LITTLE BROTHER!" He exclaimed, picking his younger brother up and whirling him around until Senjuro was scream laughing. He stopped, and just wrapped him in a hug for a moment. You let the two be, and watched the moment progress. You burned the memory into your brain, and you would hold onto it for the rest of your life.
Finally, he set Senjuro down and saw you. He tilted his head, and you couldn't wait any longer. Running to him, you jumped into him. He caught you, just held you for a long time. You were not letting go.
"I was so worried about you," You said into his ear, tears on your lashes.
"I know, I'm sorry about that," He replied, setting you down. He pressed a sweet kiss on your lips. And took you back into a hug. You were wrapped in his arms, but you felt a small weight attach to your leg. You looked down to see Senjuro wrapped around your leg. You reached down and rested your hand on his head, ruffling his hair. He did this sometimes. When you hugged Kyo, he had to attach onto you or his brother, and it was just because he could feel your love. And he wanted to be a part of it too.
It broke your heart. You separated, and Senjuro detached. "Big Brother, I made dinner for us," Senjuro said, and took his big brother's hand. Tugging him inside, Kyojuro quickly grabbed your hand, pulling you along with them. You all kneeled at the table, and looked silently at the door leading to their father's room.
"Should we?" Senjuro started. "No," Kyojuro quickly finished. "He heard me arrive, and didn't approach us, so we should continue without him." "Okay," Senjuro squeaked. You all bowed your heads and began to eat.
The laughter and stories flowed around the table. You could feel the warmth and love radiating between the brothers, and they both looked at you with love-filled gazes. You smiled, and wished this moment would last forever.
Dinner had ended, and Kyojuro had helped you wash the dishes, sending Senjuro to bed. He wanted a few moments with you, alone. You had just swayed together in the kitchen, to a song in your hearts that only you two could hear.
"I missed you so much Riori-chan," He said quietly, and you knew he wanted to say more, but was holding back.
"I missed you to Kyo-kun," you replied, and silently finished your small dance together.
Later, you both retreated to Kyojuro's room, and he paused. You blushed, "Kyo, did you miss, you know, doing things?"
He leaned over the bed, and lifted your chin with two fingers. "Of course I did, Riori-chan."
Laying smoldering kisses along your jaw, he began to untie your yukata. You quickly reached over and blew out the candle.
After Kyojuro had made up for lost time, you laid wrapped in a light cotton night shirt. Kyojuro snored next to you, quietly at first, and then louder as he fell into a deeper sleep. He was exhausted. Your mind whirled, you had missed him so much.
You heard small feet pattering down the hallway, and the door to your bedroom slid open. The small feet padded to the edge of the bed, and a small body lifted itself up onto the bed. A small and tired Senjuro slid into your bed, and curled up into a ball next to you. You smiled and reached over, rubbing your thumb across his chubby little cheek. You knew he only craved a loving touch. Yawning, you finally fell into sleep, with a Kyojuro's chest to you back, and a small hand clutched in your own.
You awoke to the smell of something cooking. You rubbed your eyes and rolled over. Kyojuro was gone, and so was Senjuro. You slid out of the bed and stumbled into the bathroom. You finally made your way to the kitchen, where your two boys were laughing together.
"Good morning Riori-chan!"They exclaimed and you laughed. They had made you breakfast, but the kitchen was a mess. You giggled as you began to clean up behind them, and when breakfast was ready you all ate together again. You wished every meal could be like this.
You began to clean up after finishing and Kyojuro worked around you, packing things into a small basket. Senjuro quickly ran in and handed Kyojuro something, and then left again to work on his studies.
"Riori-chan, let's take a walk," Kyojuro said, taking your hand. "Okay," you replied.
You began a trek up a grassy knoll on the Rengoku estate, to the top of a hill covered in Wisteria trees. In the shade, Kyojuro laid down a small blanket he had brought and set down the basket. He pulled you down onto the blanket beside him, and he took your face in between his two hands.
"Riori-chan, you remember the first moment we met right?" he asked, rubbing his thumb over your bottom lip.
"Y-Yes Kyojuro-kun," you replied, remembering that day when you met him at the market. He had brought Senjuro to the market that day, to show him. It was his first trip. You had been making a weekly trip with your family, when you saw the two brothers. He carried Senjuro on his shoulders, both had grins the size of their faces. It shook something in you, and you had to say something. You had gone up to them, and handed Senjuro a rice ball. He smiled, sticking out his small hand. You smiled, and finally introduced yourself.
The rest, was just a small story of falling in love with the boy who's heart was made of gold.
Kyojuro had moved his hand while you were reminiscing. He'd stood up to reach for a blooming wisteria, and tugged you to your feet. You were so busy talking you didn't see what was unfolding before your eyes.
Kneeling before you on the green grass, a soft smile on his face, Kyojuro held a small handmade box.
"Riori-chan, will you marry me?" He asked, and you felt your eyes fill with tears.
"Yes. Yes Kyo!" You exclaimed, a few tears escaping down your cheeks. You weren't sad, these were happy tears. He rose to his feet, sliding the small ring onto your finger. He wiped away the tears on your cheeks and pressed a perfect kiss to your lips.
"I love you Riori-chan."
