Chapter 1: chapter one

Chapter Text

Breakfast was always crazy in the Horan/Whitehead house. Three kids rushing to get ready for school, two teachers getting ready for work and then a stay at home Papa making sure everyone was ready.

Niall was the music teacher at one of the elementary schools in the area, Fionn was a professor at one of the nearby universities. Ellisa, Hugo and Ezra were starting their first year at high school this year so they were pretty nervous, that was Ellisa and Hugo, Ezra could careless.

Niall drove the three kids to school, it wouldn't be too far of a walk but since he was driving in that direction to go to work he figured it was only right for him to drive them to school. Once they arrived at the school, Ellie leaned over and kissed her father's cheek. "Bye Dad! I love you!"

"Goodbye, El, I love you too" Niall smiled. He looked in the rearview mirror at his stepsons who still sat in the backseat. "Bye boys, have a good day"

"Bye Niall" Ezra said with a small smile, he put his hand over the seat to ruffle his hair before he got out of the car.

Hugo smiled, reaching over to do the same thing. "Bye Niall! Have a great day." Hugo smiled before getting out of the car.

By now Ellisa was also out of the car and the three made their way into the school together. The three-headed to the front office so they could pick up their schedules. Once they had their schedules they began to see if they shared any classes.

Hugo hoped to have as many classes as possible with his siblings as he wasn't the best academically he knew his siblings were quite the opposite, Ezra was the most successful academically out of the three of them. Ellisa didn't like school and got fairly average grades unless it was a class she passionate about such as music, English, history and languages.

"I have History first-period" Ellisa stated.

"I also have History first," Ezra said as he checked his first-period class, "with Mr Riddles"

Ellisa hummed as she also had Mr Riddles. "Hugo?"

Hugo was trying to navigate his schedule, "Uh... Yeah! I have History with Mr Riddles first"

Ellisa smiled glad to have her first-period class with her brothers. The three soon started on their way to their classroom not wanting to be late on their first day. Luckily it didn't take long to arrive and they went to take their seats. The tables in the classroom were for students to sit in pairs, Ellisa let her brothers sit together and went to go take a seat next to a blonde-haired boy. Ellisa felt shy so she didn't greet him or anything.

There was chatter amongst the class until Mr Riddles walked into the classroom, dressed in a blue button-up shirt and cream trousers, a classic outfit for any male teacher that wasn't a sports teacher. He walked over to place his things on his desk before he greeted the class. "Hello class, my name is Mr Riddles and I'll be taking you for history this year"

"Now since this is the first day, I want everyone to get to know each other. Other than that I will briefly discuss what we will be learning about this semester and my expectations for this class." Mr Riddles spoke.

Ellisa really dreaded the fact they would be introducing themselves this morning, it probably happens in most of their classes.

"I'll start with doing the roll, when I call out your name raise your hand and tell us a fact about yourself" Mr Riddles instructed.

A sense of somewhat relief washed over Ellisa, Hugo and Ezra as H and W weren't at the start of the roll. While the boy sitting next to Ellisa let out an audible groan.

"Thomas Adams?" Mr Riddles called.

A curly-haired boy at the front of the class raised his hand, "Here, Sir. My favourite snack is Pick N Mix"

Mr Riddles hummed, glad that the first student abided by his instructions. "I used to get a Pick N Mix every Friday afternoon when I was in high school," he said wanting to relate to that in some way.

"Jamie Cook"

The boy next to Ellisa raised his hand reluctantly. "Hi... I'm Jamie and I love football"

Mr Riddles smiled, nodding his head. "Do you play or do you just enjoy watching?"

"I play. But also enjoy watching" Jamie mumbled keeping his head down.

Mr Riddles went through the roll before eventually getting to Ellisa. "Ellisa Horan?"

Ellisa raised her hand smiling, "Please call me Ellie, I prefer Ellie." She said politely.

Mr Riddles nodded, "Tell us something about yourself," He asked.

Ellisa tried to think of something interesting about herself, she'd wanted to mention her love for music but felt it would just be referred back to who her parents were, Niall Horan and Harry Styles, it was a blessing and a curse that her parents were musicians in their youth. "I enjoy baking," She said simply.

Mr Riddles just nodded, he did expect something more but didn't push. He went through the roll, Hugo mentioned he liked dancing and Ezra didn't say anything, he refused.

The rest of the class wasn't too interesting, Mr Riddles just went on about the subject they'd be studying as well as his classroom expectations.

Ellisa's next class was just as uninteresting, the only real intriguing thing about it was that in the seating plan Mr Tardy had set out with a girl whose name was Katie. Katie was quite good at math which relieved her as sometimes she did struggle with it.

Next was their first break which Ellie spent with her brothers, she had yet to become friends with anyone yet. She had barely spoken a word to Jamie and she wasn't quite sure where Katie was but she was sure Katie had other friends to hang out with. The break was uneventful.

Ellisa's third-period class was English, so she said goodbye to her brothers and headed to her classroom. Ellisa's teacher Ms Hogan was strict and liked to also have a seating plan, students were asked to stand up the front and then she would assign them a seat.

Ellisa and a brown-headed boy were the last to be seated. "Mr Turner" Ms Hogan directed pointing to a seat.

"Ms Horan, take a seat next to him please," She said before going to the front of the classroom.

Another teacher poked their head in and called for Ms Hogan, wanting to speak with her outside. Ellisa felt a little less she so she decided to introduce herself while she had the chance. "Hello, I'm Ellisa, though you can call me Ellie if you'd like."

The boy smiled nervously, "Hi Ellie, my names Alex, well actually it's Alexander but I much prefer Alex"

Ellia smiled, "It's lovely to meet you, Alex"

Alex was cute, he had a sort of a grown out bowl cut that was just covering his ears. Jamie had a similar haircut though his hair was blonde and he didn't have much of a fringe, unlike Alex. He seemed the kind to just try and blend in, quiet, shy, but your typical sweetheart.

"Do you like English?" Ellisa asked Alex wondering if he would need or want assistance in the future.

"Yeah, I do. I enjoy English quite a lot" Alex replied.

Ellisa was glad to hear she was sitting with someone who enjoyed the subject like her. "Great! I love English too"

Alex was also pretty glad that Ellisa liked English like him.

Alex and Ellisa kept the conversation up until Ms Hogan returned and continued to speak when possible in class, the two enjoyed each others company. "What class do you have next?" Ellisa asked.

"Music, with... Mrs Hua"

Alex was relieved to hear she also had music, he knew he had it with Jamie, Matt and Nick, his really close friends. He could introduce her to them, he was sure that they'd all get along. "I also have English with Mrs Hua, we could walk together there" Alex suggested.

Ellie hummed, "That be nice. Do you enjoy music?"

"Oh yes, I love it even more than I love English. I would ask if you enjoy music but I can already tell you do, with who your parents are as well as just your family in general" Alex said.

"Ah, so you do know who I am" Ellie chuckled playfully.

"Yeah I do, but you all live normal lives now so I didn't need to bring it up. Plus I really don't know that much about your parent's music, it's not my cup of tea" Alex replied.

Ellie hummed, she didn't mind that. The bell soon went signalling that it was time to go to their next class. The two stood up and began the walk to their next class.
