Work Text:

“Haven’t you done enough?”  She demanded, blue eyes clouded with emotion, her face hardened into a scowl.

He came to a stop in front of her, black boots thudding on the ground, golden eyes shimmering in anger.

“Do not speak of that which you do not understand Miko.”  He stated, voice still commanding and stoic even in this time of shared grief.  “Inuyasha was long past gone.”

Kagome’s fingers shook, her hands tightened on her hakama as she sank against the base of the tree.  She knew it, knew it was true, but the words weren’t any easier to hear regardless of who spoke them.

She blinked back the tears, pushing her emotions down, down, down until they lay buried in the bottom of her heart.

“What now?”  She asked, face held high, eyes glittering.  “What do I do now?”

Inuyasha had promised her so much, but in the end he’d left her with nothing.  No name, no money, no house.

She was alone.

“You follow me.” Sesshomaru answered, still standing, towering over her, his eyes hooded.  “You are pack .”

Kagome frowned, confused.  “ Pack? ”  The word felt foreign on her tongue.

“Pack.”  He confirmed.

She stared at him for a few moments, hands still shaking, hakama still bunched tight in them, nearly to tearing point.

There were many reasons for her to say no to him, to tell him to leave her be.

There were just as many reasons for her to agree: safety, protection, shelter.

Kagome closed her eyes, taking a few deep breaths.  When she reopened them, her blue eyes were now blank of emotion.  She stood on shaky legs, reaching down to pick up her bow and arrow lying discarded on the ground before her.

She straightened her shoulder, standing tall and proud.  “Lead the way, Sesshomaru-sama.”

Notes:

A/N: I've told a few people already, but this will be my last writing event in the SessKag fandom (3 stories left after today). I'll still have my tumblr drabble asks open, and participate in DDNs, and likely only post drabbles in my drabble story.

I explained yesterday why I've made that decision. Thank you to all the readers who have taken the time to reach out to me. Your words really mean a lot, and I appreciate every single one of you, as I've told people over and over on my tumblr, in my notes, etc. I usually get around to reviews on Saturday, so please know that I have read every single one of them, and I will reply to them then.
My stories will always be here, or on Dokuga, or Ff.net, and you can always come speak to me through DM on Dokuga or tumblr. I'll also be around once a month or so to go back and read and review all the lovely works posted on Dokuga that need all the love and support they can get from others.

Thank you,

KH
