Work Header

Look at the stars

Summary:

Sometimes Namjoon wonders if Taehyung is aware of how special he is to him.
Taehyung asks him on a date and they cuddle in the couch.
Namjoon doesn’t need to ask for more.

Notes:

I was honestly feeling very soft for Taejoon and wanted to write a short drabble of them in love and pure fluff with no drama.
Hope you enjoy!
Inspired by this moodboard by Vi.
Inspired by the song “Yellow” from Coldplay.

Work Text:

Look how they shine for you,

And everything you do,

Yeah, they were all yellow,

Namjoon lowered the music in his earplugs when Taehyung walked into the room. He was wearing the beige sweater he had bought him for his birthday, with his dark fluffy hair covering his face. He took off his shoes, left his bag at the door and walked towards him with that big boxy smile that made his stomach rumble. He dropped himself next to him on the couch and kissed his cheek.

“Hey, what are you listening to?” Taehyung took one of the earplugs and put it into his ear. The music was low and romantic and he immediately recognized the tune. “I love this one!” He noticed the now closed notebook and pen on Namjoon’s lap. “Were you writing? Sorry if I interrupted.”

Namjoon kissed his boyfriend on the lips and smiled fondly.

“I was almost done with it anyway. How was your day?” Taehyung would never interrupt his process, if not, he would inspire him to write more.

“It was fine, lots of clients, some new ones, some old ones,” he lowered his gaze.

Taehyung worked in retail for a well-known brand. It was fancy and it smelled nice. Namjoon liked the smell Taehyung carried after a day of work. He put his items aside and hugged him tight, breathing in the scent from his neck. Taehyung giggled and tried to pull him away.

“Wanna go out for a date?” His eyes were shining like stars and Namjoon found himself nodding fast. He would always agree to a date.

Taehyung got his camera and soon they were out in the park riding their bikes. They would usually go on bikes by the river, sometimes just relaxing, sometimes competing to see who could arrive first to the end. It was always different, always fun. Taehyung was riding in front of him now and Namjoon could only think of how lucky he was to have him in his life, to share these moments of joy with him.

They parked the bikes and Taehyung took out the polaroid camera. He took a couple of pictures of the river and the plants before he turned around and surprised Namjoon with some shots aimed at him. Namjoon ran towards him and pulled him close for a kiss. He then took the camera from his hands and pointed it at them, snapping a shot. The photo came out blurry and unfocused, with a tilted background, but you could tell they were together, smiling, looking at each other.

“I think this one is my favorite.” Taehyung mentioned as he saved it with the rest.

The sun was starting to go down and Taehyung made them rush to go back home.

“I love to see the sunset from your place!”

Namjoon’s place had become their place for quite some time. Taehyung’s shoes were on the entrance, his winter coats hung in the closet, his art magazines displayed all around the coffee table. But Taehyung still had his apartment, it wasn’t still their place to his eyes.

Either way, when they walked in the sun was setting. At that time of the day the walls of the living room turned orange, the warmth of the sun filtered through the window and that mixed to the fresh breeze the peeked through, made that moment the sweetest of the day.

Taehyung’s skin looked like honey in that light. Namjoon wanted to kiss him. They snuggled on the couch, enjoying the way the colors of the room changed. At some point Namjoon got up to make some tea. He put on a soft jazz vinyl record on the machine. It had been Taehyung’s gift for his birthday, a yellow prixton player. The music filled the room and they cuddled warmly with the tea in their hands. Namjoon felt complete and at peace.

When the sun completely disappeared and the dark colors of the night swallowed the living room, Namjoon found himself in the dark. The disk had finished, still spinning but silent, the only sound that filled the room was coming from a deep sleep Taehyung. Namjoon took the empty cup from his hands and put it on the coffee table next to his own. The movement woke him up and he groaned when Namjoon made him get up and guided him to his bed, their bed, in Namjoon’s mind.

Taehyung was sleepy as he undressed, leaving the clothes on a pile on the chair. The pile of clothes Taehyung had worn that week had piled up, they would probably have to do laundry soon. Taehyung let himself fall on the bed and Namjoon soon joined him.

Taehyung must have had a rougher day than he made it seem. Namjoon kissed his front and brushed his hair back, revealing his forehead and his beautiful brows. He could write sonnets only from this moment, with Taehyung lying naked on his bed, their bed, being the most beautiful human he could have ever imagined to end up with.

Taehyung opened his eyes slowly and smiled at him, more awake than before.

“Sorry I’m so tired,” he whispered against the mattress. His voice was low and raw and Namjoon bent to kiss his neck softly. “I actually wanted to talk to you.”

“Oh?”

The sudden pause. Namjoon sat straighter on the bed and Taehyung crawled towards him, wrapping his arms around his waist, looking up at him as Namjoon continued to pet his hair.

“What did you wanna say?” Namjoon felt nervous. They had been together for two years now. And in all that time Taehyung had never announced himself like this. He used to be more forward. Just ask or say what he wanted to say.

“I want-“ Taehyung mumbled around Namjoon’s belly and Namjoon jumped in laughter, waking Taehyung up a bit more in the process. Taehyung laughed and made an effort to sit down and look him in the eyes. They were full of love, but also fear. Namjoon swallowed, expectant to what he was about ti say. “I want to live with you.”

Namjoon couldn’t help but smile, big dimples showing as he kissed and hugged his silly boyfriend. All of Taehyung’s text books were in Namjoon’s shelves, his clothes were in Namjoon’s closet, even the guitar he had bought that one time he wanted to learn, was catching dust next to the couch. Their couch.

I think we already do. Is what Namjoon wanted to say. But he didn’t. He knew what Taehyung wanted to hear.

“I’d love to live with you.” Namjoon held him tight and kissed him, rubbing his hands down his back. “We can look for a place of our own, stay here, go to your place, whatever you want.”

Namjoon didn’t care where they lived because Taehyung was his home. Taehyung held the stars in his eyes and the sun in his smile, he would follow him to the depths of the ocean if he wanted him to.

Taehyung laughed and kissed him back.

“I like it here, now, with you.” Taehyung pushed him flat on the mattress and laid his chest on top of his own, leaving him breathless. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

It was easy to love Taehyung. Almost like breathing. It felt natural and peaceful.

Namjoon turned off the lights and enjoyed the sounds of Taehyung’s breath against his skin. He unconsciously hummed the song he was listening to that day, the message behind him popping to his mind. He wondered if Taehyung would ever know how much he loved him. If he would be capable of showing him, of telling him, all the thoughts that hammered his brain when they were together.

Namjoon kissed Taehyung’s forehead one last time before he gave in to the tiredness of his limbs. He would give his best, do his best.

Just to show him he carried the stars within.
