Chapter 1: Soft Sand
Chapter Text
Kit never liked when the sun came through his curtains and, for some reason, in Devon the sun always decided to send its brightest rays early in the morning. When he first arrived in his new home three years ago, he had been too scared to ask Tessa and Jem for new curtains. He didn’t want to seem too needy. Over the course of his stay, he had just continuously forgotten to buy new ones for himself. After all, he had other things to think about. Lots of other things. In fact, he just couldn’t stop thinking and he hated it.
Though his mind was always racing, there was one time in which it never was: when he first woke up. How was his mind expected to work so early? There were many things Kit didn’t like about being a shadowhunter, one being having to get up early. Having to have structure. He knew it was good for him, especially after so many years with Johnny.
He winced when he stepped into the shower, the scalding hot water always took him by surprise. The old, faded runes of yesterday were scrubbed harshly off his body leaving only one remaining. His only permanent one. Ironic really. The only permanent rune he had came from something so temporary it actually took him by surprise. He traced over the delicately drawn lines and remembered the touch of the boy he loved. The boy who had every reason to hate him, the one he left. But at least he wasn’t alone.
The ghost of his past mistakes even stopped visiting. It made sense, she was only here for Ty. Never Kit.
Kit was suddenly snapped out of his daily crisis at a hard banging on his door. He quickly stepped out of the shower, almost slipping and wrapping a towel around his body. The banging didn’t stop as she approached the door, swinging it open. His wild eyes were met with the wide smiles of Tessa and Jem with little Mina in his adoptive mother’s arms.
“Yes?” he asked sarcastically. “Would you like to come in?” he held his arms out. Tessa chuckled while Jem swung his arms around to reveal a neatly wrapped present.
“Happy birthday!” they both shouted accompanied with the incoherent babbles of Mina. Kit couldn’t help but smile . Jem extended the present even more. Kit quickly whipped his eyes down and back up. His hair left large droplets of water dripping down his face.
“Can you give me a moment?” Jem and Tessa both nodded and quickly hurried out of Kit’s room, slamming the door behind them. He chuckled, drying his head and getting dressed for his 18th birthday.
*****
When he arrived downstairs, the table was covered in enough food for multiple feasts. In the middle was the best looking cake Kit had ever seen. Jem was struggling to get Mina to stay in her highchair. She started getting rowdy when she saw her big brother coming into the kitchen. She jumped out of her seat to reach for him.
“Kitty!” she shouted followed by giggles that Kit could’ve sworn was made of actual sunshine.
Tessa also got out of her seat like it was made of fire, grabbing the gift they had offered to Kit in his room. This time he took the gift and sat in the closest chair to him. Tessa and Jem watched him intently. Not even bothering to be careful, Kit ripped the paper of the gift off with speed he didn’t even know he had.
The box was filled with little goodies, mostly things he knew Jem had seen in the town’s downtown area. Also drawings Mina had done, Kit noted that she was already getting talented at art. It reminded him of someone he once knew. He shook off the memory and continued looking thoroughly at each of the items until Tess got impatient.
“Open the little box,” she almost shouted. Kit looked back into the big box and noticed the little blue velvet box hiding in the corner of the tissue paper.
He ran his hands over the velvet before gently opening the box, leaning back like he expected something to pop out of it. Nothing did, but the shine of a bright object did catch his eye. He couldn’t tell what it was at first but shock quickly took over his face. He looked up at the softened faces of Jem and Tessa.
“Is this-?” he cut off his words in fear that tears would follow. They both nodded, already knowing.
Kit pulled Will Herodale’s ring out of the box and exclaimed every nook of the intricate design. Jem gently took it from his hands and placed it over Kit’s neck. He closed the clamp in the back and let the necklace drop close to being over Kit’s heart. He held it in his hand as a soft breeze drifted past him. He had never felt so connected to his family, his actual family.
He looked back once more to thank his parents when the sound of glass shattering boomed through the large house. Without even thinking, a seraph blade was in Jem’s hand, he and Tessa stood strong in front of their children. The silence was almost louder than the glass.
Suddenly Tessa whipped around and she pushed her magic past Kit and Mina. Kit grabbed his sister and held her close to his chest. A faerie went flying to the wall, then they all came at once but before they could all attack, they stopped. An even taller figure walked down the stairs that Kit had descended down not too long ago. Vines and leaves draped their arms delicately. The greenery could almost distract one from the thorns also protruding from their skin.
“Who are you?” Jem’s voice was stern, it sent a chill down Kit’s spin. He had never heard his father (father?) like that before.
The faerie ignored Jem and looked directly at Kit. “The first heir,” It’s smile was sharp and it bowed slightly. “How beautiful you are. Your hair, your eyes.” Kit looked down, noticing Tessa’s hands moving with the slightest movements. Jem looked back at Kit and gave a slight smile.
“No,” he said under his breath. He raised his eyes back to the faerie.
“The lost Herondale. So perfect you are.” They looked at the other fae that were scattered in the dining room. “And how perfect you would look with your head on a platter for the Seelie Queen!”
There was a loud screech before Tessa made her final movement, dropping Kit and Mina into a portal. He could see his parents smile at him before the portal closed and he landed… softly? Sand.
Kit, still holding onto his sister for dear life, lifted himself to his feet and looked around. The sun peaked its beautiful head above to crash off the waves. Mina turned her head slightly to see the ocean, her soft cries were reduced to sniffles as Kit turned away and walked them to a building that proudly overlooked the beach.
*****
He stood on the doorstep for what felt like ages. He wasn’t sure if he should just walk in or knock. He didn’t live there anymore, but surely this counted as an emergency. Mina rested her head on his shoulder, her eyes trying to stay open. Finally he came to the conclusion to knock, so he did. Three hard knocks. A small part of him hoped that no one would answer but he knew that he needed someone to answer. He just didn’t expect everyone.
When the door of the Los Angeles Institute swung open, Kit was met with shock looks of the entire Blackthorn clan with the addition of Christina and Jamie Rosales. Even Livvy’s ghost looked surprised. They all stared at each for way too long. Only Mina’s soft cries snapped them out of it. Kit tried to comfort her, not even caring that everyone was watching him. He whispered to her and rubbed her back until she settled on his chest again.
“Kit,” he looked back up at the sound of Julian Blackthorn’s voice. “What are you doing here?” Kit looked for one person in particular. And there he was, standing on the stairs looking as beautiful as ever. Kit looked back to Julian, letting tears finally form in his eyes. Julian softened.
“They, uh, they took them,” he tried to keep his voice steady. He used his sleeve to try and stop the slow falling tears but it didn’t help. Julian approached him slowly.
“Who took who?” his voice didn’t sound so harsh anymore.
“Faeries. They took Jem and Tessa. And Tessa made a portal for us to get here. And I- they wanted me. Oh god, they should’ve taken me,” he was cut off by his own soft sobs after his voice cracked. Emma quickly rushed past Julian and wrapped her arms around the two now lost children. She rubbed his hair as he sobbed into her shoulder.
“It’s gonna be okay. I swear to god it will.”
Chapter 2: Make a wish!

Kit's at the Los Angeles Institute, back where it all started. Now what?

Chapter Text
As soon as they gave Kit and Mina rooms, he passed out from exhaustion. His room was the same as when he left it. They didn’t change anything. When he woke uo, the sky was a deep black and Mina was curled up on his side. Guess, she didn’t want to be alone either. Kit checked the time on his phone.
“Shit,” he whispered to himself as he sat on the edge of the bed. It was nearly 11. He covered Mina up and quietly left the room in search of the occupants of the Institute.
To be fair, they weren’t hard to find. They were whispering to each other in the library but stopped when Kit entered. They all looked towards him.
“Hey Kit,” Emma was the first to say anything. They all followed it with small, mumbled ‘hello’s.
“Hey,” he said weekly. Suddenly, Dru got up and approached him. She was taller than when he had last seen her. Not taller than him but still taller. Overall, she had grown more and she was beautiful just like the rest of her family.
She stood before Kit before wrapping her arms around his neck and squeezing tightly.
“I missed you, idiot.” She whispered to him. He chuckled and smiled slightly, hugging her back.
“Missed you too, Dru,” he said back. When she pulled back, she looked him directly in the eye.
“And we will help you find Jem and Tessa.” He nodded. He knew they would. He just hoped he wouldn’t have to tell them much.
*****
The group filled Kit in on the very little information they had gathered before retiring to bed. Kit sat there, alone again, in the library, not tired at all. He only got up when his stomach made loud gurgling noises indicating it was time to go to the kitchen, he hadn’t eaten all day.
He slowly made his way through the halls of the institute before going down the stairs to the kitchen. But not before running into Ty. They looked at each other momentarily before walking past each other. Ty going up and Kit going down. Kit wanted to say something badly but he didn’t know what. Thankfully, Ty was better than him at everything.
“Kit?” His voice sounded like honey but also daggers through Kit’s heart. Still, he turned around fast.
“Yeah?” he tried not to sound so urgent, like he would hang onto every word Ty said.
“Happy birthday,” Ty said gently. Kit softened and offered a slight smile.
“Thanks,” he responded. Ty said nothing, just continued on his route, probably back to his room.
Kit watched him until he completely disappeared into the darkness. Eventually, he turned and continued on his own adventure to the kitchen when he noticed a faint light coming from the darkened kitchen. When he turned the corner, there was a cupcake sitting in the middle of the table with a single candle and a perfect flame.
Kit approached the table and sat down in one of the chairs in front of the cupcake. There was a note sitting in front of it in straight but loopy handwriting. He smiled to himself as he read those three words.
Make a wish.
And as Kit closed his eyes and blew on the flame, he did. He made the same wish he had been making since he was 9, only with a different purpose this time.
Chapter 3: Hurt

The truth is always right around the corner huh?

Chapter Text
It had been four days, and there was no progress. Magnus Bane had even gotten involved. Kit sat in the rafters in the training room after storming out of the library. It was too much, too overwhelming. He closed his eyes and tried to regain control over his breathing. He breathed in and out slowly. In and out.
“How long?” a soft voice asked. He opened his eyes to see none other than the ghost of Livia Blackthorn floating in front of him. Her eyebrows were scrunched together. Kit shook his head.
“How long what?” She inched closer, looking up and down.
“Nothing, never mind,” she sighed heavily. Kit felt a little more at ease with her presence. “Ty’s worried.” she finally spoke. Kit felt his heart rate shoot up.
“What?” He managed to get out. She chuckled.
“Ty’s worried about you. About Tessa and Jem,” she looked down, the smile fading. Kit looked down too. “Just make sure you talk to him, okay? Don’t shut him out,” Kit nodded and Livvy disappeared.
Kit sighed and leaped off of the raptors, landing on his feet. Three years ago, he would’ve shit himself at the idea of doing that. He wrapped his hands and began practicing his fighting on a dummy. It just felt good to punch something. It made him feel real. Not like he was just floating through life.
As his head filled with more thoughts, he punched harder and tears swelled in his eyes. Then he started kicking and eventually picked up a dagger. He threw one at the dummy before picking up another one and another one. The fourth one he picked up, he ran his fingers on the cold metal handle. He turned quickly and threw it at the target behind him with all the power he had left in his body.
“You’ve gotten good,” Kit looked up to see Ty standing next to the target. “Really good,” he mumbled.
“Thanks. It’s all because of Jem,” he chuckled. Ty nodded. He pulled the dagger out of the target and walked over to place it on the weapons rack. Kit’s eyes followed his every movement. Ty stopped before whipping around to look at Kit. He looked like he was about to cry.
“We’ll find them Kit,” he said. He took three large steps until him and Kit were close. Kit wanted to be closer. “And I promise we’ll keep you safe. But you have to tell us everything.” Kit swallowed. Of course he knew.
“Ty-” he was cut off by the training room door slamming open. Dru stood in the doorway.
“There’s fae surrounding the Institute,” she sounded out of breath. Almost immediately, Kit unwrapped his hands while Ty grabbed weapons. He threw Kit a seraph blade. All three of them marched out of the room.
The rest of the Institute stood by the door. Magnus was using his magic, probably to put up a force field while Emma was pacing. She stopped when she saw Kit and tackled him into a deep hug. She sniffled.
“What’s going on?” he asked, hugging her back. He would take any hug he could get. She pulled back, wiping her eyes.
“We thought they took you, we couldn’t find you.” she replied softly. She cleared her throat and straightened her back. “There are faeries surrounding the Institute. Magnus is putting up a force field. They haven’t attack because though,”
“Because that would break the treaty,” he finished her sentence. She nodded. “So what we just sit here and wait?” He looked around and back to Ty, who was looking down. Julian chimed in.
“Kit, that's all we can do,” Kit looked around, panicked.
“Where’s Mina?” Emma put her hand on his arm.
“With Diana, they’re safe, don't worry.” She looked back at the door. “We just need to figure out what to do about the faeries.” She sighed.
“What if-” Kit swallowed. “What if we got them to break the treaty? Like tricking them.” Dru shook her head.
“How would we do that?” she questioned. Kit looked down.
“No. We’re not doing that, Kit.” Ty spoke. Dru looked at her brother. “He wants to sacrifice himself,” Immediately, he was met with no’s in different words but he just looked up at Magnus.
“Let him do it,” Magnus said, meeting his gaze. The others looked to Magnus. “He can do something none of us can,” Magnus nodded to him and Kit nodded too. He got up from his seat and darted up the stairs.
“Kit!” he could hear Ty calling after him.
When he made it to the roof ladder, he took a deep breath and opened the hatch. He stepped onto the roof and peered over at the faeries.
“Kit!” He whipped around to see Ty standing behind him. His eyes widened.
“Ty, what the hell are you doing?” He shouted, he didn’t realize he was so loud.
“I can’t let you go!” He shouted back, tears in his eyes. Before Kit could respond, multiple faeries had climbed the sides of the building and met them on the roof. Ty pulled out a blade but Kit shook his head and he put it away. The faeries crept towards him before quickly grabbing him.
“Now!” he yelled and just as fast Ty pulled out his blade and began slashing at the faeries. He went first for the ones that were attached to Kit. But there were more coming, and fast. They were surrounded. The same faerie from Devon walked out of the crowd and in front of the boys. She looked from Kit to Ty, smiling wickedly.
“Does the boy even know?” her voice was like venom. Ty didn’t break his gaze from the faerie. “Oh my, he’s a brave one. I might want both of you now.”
“You came for me, so you take me,” Kit said sternly. The faerie looked back to Kit and pouted.
“So much pain for someone who doesn’t even love you back,” She laughed loudly. “Someone who will never love you back.” Suddenly Ty leaped forwards to attack but the faerie caught him by the throat. She picked him off the ground before dangling him over the edge. She looked back at Kit. “How many more people have to suffer because of you?” Then she dropped him.
Kit had always had skydiving on his bucket list. He liked adrenaline, he liked heights. It seemed like the perfect activity for him. And now Kit was falling off the side of the building, and he had never been more stressed.
Ty’s eyes were blown wide and despite the situation, Kit had thought that the lovely gray had never been more beautiful. He kept his arm out, so did Ty. They were reaching for each other but still just too short. Kit tried to tell his body to go faster as the concrete was rapidly approaching.
When he finally grazed the tip of Ty’s finger, they were teleported into the Institute, by the stairs. Some time during the teleportation, Kit had taken Ty into his arms. When they were in the room, Kit dropped to his knees with Ty’s unconscious body. The Blackthorns gathered around while tears streamed from Kit’s eyes.
“He still hit the ground,” he sniffled. “I was too late. I got to him but he already hit the ground.” his voice cracked. Dru turned away, holding back her sobs. Julian swallowed heavily.
“Christina, can you take him to the-” his voice cracked too. Christina nodded and picked Ty up from Kit’s arms. Kit immediately felt light headed and laid down on the floor. He breathed slowly as Magnus knelt down next to him.
“Come on Kit, you have to stay awake,” he said softly, stroking Kit’s hair. Kit shook his head gently. He felt Magnus’s magic run through him. It was warm. “You can rest now, Kit.” And he closed his eyes.
*****
He was surprised to wake up in his bed. He was even more surprised to see Emma and Julian arguing in the doorway quietly. His ears were still slightly ringing as he sat up on the side of his bed. Emma immediately made her way over to him, she handed a glass of water (which he downed) before she spoke.
“How are you feeling?” she asked. He nodded.
“Fine,” He met her eyes. He tried to speak but he couldn’t find his voice.
“He’s fine, Kit. He woke up a few days before you,” Kit nodded before stopping in his tracks.
“‘A few days’? How long have I been out?” Emma looked down. “Emma, how long have I been out?” His voice got louder. Julian stepped to her side, putting an arm in front of her.
“A week,” she answered quietly. She looked back up at him. “Kit, what the hell is going on?”
Kit was still sore. He could tell because it almost sent a sharp pain through his body while he paced in the library. Everyone was there, except for Ty. Kit was relieved he wasn’t there. It would probably be better that way.
“Three years ago, I wiped out the Raiders. They just disappeared but before,” he swallowed. Before they told me I was the first heir.” He sighed. He didn’t look at his audience, he just heard his gasps. Jamie spoke up.
“So when you went to the roof,” he chuckled. “You knew you could escape,” Kit nodded, still pacing. It was silent for about seven minutes. Kit had stopped pacing and sat on the opposite side of the library while everyone else thought about this new information.
“What else can you do?” Dru asked. Kit chuckled, of course Dru would ask. He shook his head and shrugged.
“Teleportation is the only one I know of right now. Jem was helping me before…” He looked down before he heard Julian’s voice.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” His voice was stern. And scary.
“Because I didn’t want to put any of you in danger,” he flopped back onto the bed. It was soft, he wished it was concrete. He wished it was him instead of Ty. “Clearly I failed at that,” his voice was muffled by his hands over his face.
“Oh, Kit-“ Emma started but she was cut off by Julian.
“Is that why you left?” he asked. His voice had released some of the authority but it was replaced with something a lot more personal.
“Julian-“ Kit sat up.
“You know he didn’t come out of his room after you left? Hm?” Julian’s entire face was turning red. Emma grabbed his arm but he brushed her off. “You hurt him way more back then than you did now. All you do is hurt him, Kit.” he was almost shouting. Kit stood up fast. He was almost the same height as Julian. They were close, both angry.
“He’s not the only one who got hurt!” Kit didn’t mean to shout but as soon as he realized, he pushed past Julian and Emma and left the room. When entered the hall, the rest of the institute's members were standing there. Kit ran in the opposite direction in horror. After all, Ty heard everything.

Chapter Text
Kit sat on the edge of the roof. It was a lot more peaceful than the last time he was up there. The moon was bright in the center of the sky and he could see the waves crashing onto the sand delicately. The breeze was nice. Everything was calm and still. For a moment everything was okay. He wished it was this way all the time.
“Kit?” He smiled to himself at the voice behind him. He didn’t even have to turn around.
“Hey Ty.” Ty took his place next to Kit on the edge. They sat in silence for a moment, enjoying each other's presence.
“Julian was surprised when you left. He said he couldn’t believe you’d do that when we seemed so…” he trailed off and Kit hung his head. He had a gut feeling Ty wasn’t talking about right now. “Why did you leave? I promise I’m not mad anymore. I just want to understand” Kit chuckled and looked at Ty. He didn’t care anymore. None of his secrets never seemed to stay secrets anyways.
“Because you broke my heart,” he smiled weakly. He analyzed the shock in Ty’s face before turning back to the ocean. “That night. I had to leave because of my powers but I wanted to leave because you broke my heart.” Once again they sat in silence. He could hear Ty thinking and the cogs turning.
“I don’t understand,” Ty finally said. “You said you wished you never met me.” Kit chuckled again.
“Oh Ty, I never meant that. And I’m sorry I said it and I don’t know why I do. Well, I guess I do know why I did because you didn’t say anything when I said I loved you and I was just…” He sighed. “I mean that I love you. That’s true.”
“Now?”
“What?”
“You said that you mean it, not that you meant it. So that means you still love me, correct?” Kit froze, his whole body went cold. There was no going back now, so he nodded.
“Yeah Ty, I still love you,” He wanted to smile or laugh or make a quick joke but his brain was just pulsing with thoughts of only Ty. Now, he just wanted to launch himself off the roof. Silence filled the air.
“Kit?”
“Yeah?”
“Can I kiss you now?” Kit whipped his head to look at Ty. His face was blank but his hands were rapidly moving in his lap. Kit smiled largely, like before, he didn’t care anymore. Still, he found himself not able to speak so he just moved forward until their lips were touching in a crash of overwhelming finally’s.
Kit thought that Ty was sweet. The way he kissed was sweet. He tasted sweet. Ty’s fingers felt sweet in Kit’s hair as he gently held Kit to him. When they finally pulled back for air, Ty looked sweet. Everything about him was sweet.
They both laughed with their foreheads pressed together. “Can we do that again?” Kit asked softly. Silently he had a fear that Ty would say no. Instead Ty nodded once and moved back in for another. And then another and then another. And then Kit looked up and they were in the hall. And then in Ty’s room. And then in his bed. And he was over Ty. Ty who was looking up at him with big eyes. Kit froze. Had he gone too far?
“Ty. You set the pace,” he said. Almost as a reminder to himself. “You set the pace no matter how fast or slow, I will always want to be with you, if you’ll let me.” Ty smiled and pulled Kit down for another quick kiss.
“Can we wait?” Ty asked quietly. “To tell everyone and do everything?” Kit nodded.
“Of course,” Kit flopped down next to Ty. “Anything for you,” He said as he held Ty and slowly drifted off to sleep.
Chapter 5: Closer
Summary:
exactly what the title says ;)
Notes:
I promise that the plot will be completed but it's hard to focus on kidnapping when Kit and Ty are right there.
Hope you enjoy this extra long chapter!
Chapter Text
Kit was practically skipping through the halls. He spaced out in every meeting, always focused on Ty. His mind wandered everytime. A part of him felt back because, well, his parents were missing and the entire Seelie court wanted to kill him. But at least he had Ty. He smiled to himself, he couldn’t believe his birthday wish had come true.
He didn’t mind the secrecy too much. He liked being able to have something that was just for him and Ty. To everyone else, it had just looked like they rekindled. Everyday Kit silently thanked the angels that 15 year old him slept in Ty’s room almost everyday because, now, 18 year old him can do it without any suspicion. But this time it was different.
Now Kit could hold Ty while they slept and wake him up with soft kisses on the forehead. Now, Ty would hold his hand and kiss his knuckles when they were cuddled together watching a horrible detective movie that Ty critiqued any chance he got. When they were in Ty’s room, nothing could get to them.
As time went on, Kit got more and more restless. Sneaking kisses in between the shelves in the library or holding Ty’s hand under the table. And he’d admit that maybe they do get a little too close during sparring. He didn’t care though. After a while, Ty didn’t seem to care that much either.
“Soon,” he would answer Kit’s unspoken questions with a kiss whenever Kit would leave his room. He knew that when Ty said soon, he meant soon. Because he was also getting restless, and it made Kit happy that he wasn’t the only one.
They were in Ty’s room (obviously), holding each other with a few lazy kisses. I’ll never get tired of this, Kit thinks to himself often now. Ty’s head is on his chest, wavering in and out of sleep. Kit read somewhere that that’s a good thing. He looked up to see Livvy pretending to vomit to which he gave her a stern middle finger. She giggled and gestured towards his phone. When he saw the time he felt his blood run cold.
“Shit, shit, shit,” he cursed not so quietly. Ty was completely knocked out of his sleep as he leaped out of the bed. He rubbed the nap out of his eyes which, of course, made Kit’s heart flutter. Anything Ty did made his heart flutter.
“Kit?” His voice was small and interrupted by a yawn. “What happened?” Kit looked back. Ty’s hair was a messy crown on his head and the blankets pooled around his waist. Ty looked like the word calm, Kit thought. He liked calm.
“The meeting. With Kieran and Julian and everyone else. In, uh, the library. And we slept in and I,” Ty tilted his head and Kit fought back a smile. “I just wanted to go shower. So I’ll be back,” Ty blinked at him as he put his hand on the doorknob.
“You can shower here,” Ty said suddenly. When Kit turned back around, Ty was playing with his hands and avoiding eye contact. “If you wanted to, you can shower here,”
“Yeah okay,” Kit said softly. Ty finally met his gaze and offered a tiny smile. “Let me just go get my stuff,” Ty nodded and Kit doesn’t remember the last time he moved so fast for a shower.
His shower was definitely longer than it needed to be. But something about it being in Ty’s room made him want to stay forever. Everything about it felt so domestic. He loved it.
When he finally stepped out of the shower, he let the hot steam create beads of sweat around his forehead. He took his time getting half dressed before his phone buzzed reminding him of the fact that he, and by association Ty, were running late. And Julian would absolutely not be happy about that (the Kit part, not the Ty part). He put his shirt half on before rushing out of the bathroom trying to pat his very wet hair dry. Ty was still sitting on his bed, this time with a book. When the door opened, the steam rushed out making the room much warmer than it was before and making Ty look up. Kit swore to himself as he tried to pull his shirt down and dry his hair at the same time, he didn’t completely succeed at either.
“Sorry I took so long it’s just your shower is actually so much nicer than mine and the water is hotter and,” Kit rambled on as Ty stood up slowly and walked towards him. He was suddenly very aware of the fact that he was not completely wearing a shirt and, how he had it on, it was more like a scarf. As Ty looked him up and down, Kit felt his cheeks get hot. “You can get in there if you want,” his voice was small.
Ty finally met his eyes, taking the towel from his hands and putting it to Kit’s hair himself. He shook Kit’s head around in the process of trying to dry it which made Kit laugh, which then made Ty laugh. Magic to his ears, Kit thought.
“You think you got all of it?” Kit laughed. Ty scrunched his nose and brought the towel down while inspecting his work.
“Yeah, I think so,” He smiled. Art, Kit thought. Ty still made no attempt to move away from Kit. He just stared at him before moving forward to connect their lips.
It started off small, and innocent, and sweet. Kit would swear by the angel that that’s all he intended but he did promise Ty that he could set the pace. And who was Kit to break that promise? He only really became aware of the growing intensity of the kissing when he could feel Ty’s hands all over his torso, realizing he never put the shirt on. Ty’s hands were warm and they felt like they belonged there, like perfect pieces of a puzzle.
When Ty turned his head a bit more to deepen their kiss, Kit could’ve sworn that this is what cloud 9 would feel like. He pulled back, still keeping their faces close, the smallest centimeter from each other.
“Fuck Ty,” he breathed. Ty grinned wickedly, brushing their noses together. When Kit leaned in again, Ty pulled back this time before getting close again. Yet not close enough for Kit’s liking.
“We’re gonna be late,” Ty whispered. His hands were still grazing over Kit’s body, driving him wild.
“We’re already late,” He argued. Ty laughed.
“Then even more late,” Kit groaned, dramatically putting his head on Ty’s shoulder. He placed a quick kiss on Ty’s neck. He smiled when he heard Ty’s sharp breath. He placed another, then another and Ty leaned into it. “Kit. the meeting,” he breathed. Kit stood up and looked Ty in the eyes, easily getting lost in them.
“Fine,” he whispered. “But we’re not done here,” He said before walking out the door of Ty’s room, still hearing Ty’s laugh before he closed the door completely. And he made sure to pull his shirt all the way down before going anywhere.
*****
“You’re staring,” Livvy’s sing-songy voice teased his ears. He gave her a death glare as she giggled floating over to “sit” on the armrest of Ty’s chair. Kit made a mental note to flip her off later. It would look weird if he did it now.
They were in another meeting. This time with Kieran making a guest appearance.
He felt himself be hit so hard he could fall of his chair. He blinked himself out of his trance to look over at Dru. He was met with probably the most annoyed face anyone had ever made at him.
“Dude,” she whispered. “Literally how are you smiling right now? Your parents got kidnapped and we still can’t find them.”
“But the Seelies broke the truce,” he retorted quickly. He was a bit surprised that he remembered that part of the meeting. “Which means, my incredibly rude friend, we have more jurisdiction.” He smiled at her and she rolled her eyes.
“Spell jurisdiction,” she hissed back. He kicked her hard.
Kit was finally able to regain awareness of his surroundings. Julian was speaking. Kieran was standing next to him. He looked around the room. Ty, of course, was giving the meeting his entire undivided attention. Mark looked just as spaced out as Kit did a few seconds again, instead staring at Kirean. Emma twirled a knife in her hands. Mina sat in the corner playing with a fake seraph blade with Diana. She’ll make a great shadowhunter one day, Kit thought. He then let Julian’s voice penetrate his mind again.
“So, this means that we can finally enter the Seelie Court and search for Jem and Tessa who are, more than likely, being held and guarded very closely to The Queen,” Kit’s ears perked up. He looked over at Ty, who was still looking at Julian. What really caught his eye was Livvy, now floating next to her brother, shaking her head. He’ll follow you, she mouthed. Kit looked away and before Julian can say anything more Kit spoke up.
“I want to go,” he said firmly. Everyone looked at him as a long uncomfortable silence fell over the room. He refused to look at Ty, or Livvy. “I should go. They’re my parents. The Queen wants me. Let me go, I promise I’ll be careful.”
“I’ll go with him,” Ty said immediately. Kit finally brought himself to look at Ty who was looking directly back at him. Kit shook his head softly.
“Kit,” Julian started. “Them wanting you is the entire reason why you shouldn’t go. And your powers, we don’t even know how they work or when they work. Do you?” His voice had more anger behind it. Maybe because of Ty. Maybe because of Kit. Maybe because of both at the same time.
“No but-”
“Exactly. Plus we don’t know how long getting through the court could take,” Julian furrowed his brows and messaged the side of his head. “Let alone the negotiations. It’s too risky.”
“But-”
“No.”
“Let me prove it to you. I can train with the powers. I’ll learn to control them. You have to let me go.”
“No, Kit. I’m sorry but I,” Julian’s gaze drifted over to Ty for a moment before rushing back to Kit. “I just can’t trust you for this.” Kit felt hot. He didn’t realize he was standing until his feet carried him out the room, slamming the door behind him.
Chapter 6: Touch

Ty and Kit get closer (and closer and closer)

Chapter Text
He marched all the way to his room. His chest was rising and falling rapidly. He breathed out desperately to get his world to stop spinning. He put his hand to his chest to try and slow down his breathing. He looked out the window for something, anything that could make the pain stop. But it wasn’t physical pain. Something else hurts.
“Kit?” Ty’s voice (music to his ears) came from behind the door. “Can I come in?”
“Yeah,” Kit strained his voice, trying his best to sound normal.
“I know you’re upset about not being able to go to Seelie but I think Jules is ri-” Ty stopped rambling when he saw him. “Kit, what’s happening?” He asked softly. Kit chuckled shakily and turned to Ty. His breathing was still shallow.
“Um, a panic attack, I think,” He breathed out. Ty took three steps closer, placing his hand on Kit’s heart. After feeling the swift beating, he looked back up like he was about to cry. “It’s fine, it happens often, you know, I’m used to it. It’s fine,” He couldn’t look Ty in the eyes, not even when he wrapped his arms around Kit’s neck. He closed his eyes, hugging Ty back and feeling his heart slow down. Of course Ty would be the cure.
“I’m sorry,” Ty whispered. “For not saying it back by the lake and driving you away. Maybe if you hadn’t left, none of this would’ve happened.” Kit pulled back. He let himself get lost in the sea of beautiful gray eyes and ran his hands through the back of Ty’s hair.
“None of this is your fault,” he said softly. “None of it. God Ty, you’re the only reason I’m getting through this,” he laughed slightly. “Okay?” Ty’s eyes flashed between his eyes and his lips quickly before nodding.
“Okay.” Once again, his eyes went back to Kit’s lips but they didn’t come back up again. “Kit?”
“Yeah?” his breath was shaky again.
“I’m going to kiss you now,”
“You don’t have to ask anymore, Ty,” he brushed their lips together leaving Ty chasing. “Whatever you want, I’m always okay with it. Do you know why?”
Ty shook his head. “Why?” his breath was shaky now. Kit smiled slightly at the thought that Ty was just as affected as he was.
“Because it’s you,” And he could’ve sworn, then and there, that Ty’s eyes had lit on fire. He wasted absolutely no time.
Ty kissed Kit furiously, like he was going to die tomorrow (which was definitely a possibility). He threaded his fingers through Kit’s hair while Kit pulled him closer. There was no space between them anymore, just the way Kit always wanted. When Ty beckoned for Kit’s mouth to open more, deepening their kiss, Kit wondered where Ty learned this from. Where did Ty learn every sensitive spot on his body as he ran his fingers up and down, like he’d memorized a map of all the things that Kit didn’t even know were there. Leave it to the detective, Kit thought.
“I believe,” Ty pulled back, voice hoarse and his breathing rapid. That still didn’t stop him from leading Kit to the bed. “That we did not finish what we started earlier. And I don’t like unfinished projects.” As Kit sat down, Ty swung his legs around him, straddling Kit and making him stop breathing for a few seconds.
“Confident, are we?” Kit said with a shaky breath, a last attempt to seem cooler than he was. Ty only grinned, keeping their faces mere centimeters apart. He kissed Kit hard yet slow. Only slipping his tongue in when he could feel Kit chasing his mouth. He pulled back for a moment and Kit wondered how Ty wasn’t breathing as heavy as he was.
“Eager, are we?” Ty countered. Only when Kit smiled did he feel Ty’s breathing changing. Got him, Kit thought. He connected their mouths again just for them to pull back so Ty could pull Kit’s shirt over his head. His hands spread over Kit’s body, never stopping moving.
“You’ve changed,” Ty whispered. He traced every line on Kit’s torso, leaving no part untouched. Kit groaned quietly. Ty looked back at his eyes and quickly peeled his shirt off too. Now it was Kit’s turn to stare. “You can touch me, anywhere,” Ty’s voice deepened and Kit wasted no time. He grabbed Ty by his now bare waist and pulled him closer but when he did, Ty shifted his hips drawing an even louder moan from Kit.
“Fuck, Ty,” he moaned out. “You’re gonna kill me, and I’d let you to be honest,” They both rocked their hips in perfect unison and Kit tried to choke back his sounds.
“Don’t stop,” Ty breathed out. “I like the way you sound,” Kit let curses and moans and Ty’s name fall out of his mouth recklessly. He was in heaven. He didn’t even realize he had closed his eyes until he opened them to see Ty’s brows furrowed.
“What’s wrong?” Kit questioned, worried he had gone too far. Ty remained silent. “Ty? Anything you want, remember?” Ty nodded and met Kit’s gaze again. He pulled at the strings on Kit’s sweatpants.
“Off,” he said simply, and of course Kit was quick to comply.
In one swift motion, he moved Ty onto his back and stood at the foot of the bed. He followed Ty’s eyes as they trailed down his body. He moved painfully slow. Untying the strings and slowly pulling his sweatpants down. He watched Ty’s chest rise and fall rapidly. And he even took his time crawling back on top of Ty, who pulled him down as soon as he was over him.
Ty’s impatience showed in the way he ravished Kit, like he was hungry and Kit was the last sandwich on earth. Kit pulled back and kissed Ty’s jaw and moved down to his neck. Before he got to work leaving purple marks, he licked a strip from Ty’s collar bone to behind the top of his ear which drew a long moan from Ty. Kit felt that one in his soul (and somewhere else too).
“More, Kit,” Ty whispered. Kit pressed one more kiss behind his ear before making work of his chest.
As he kept going, he ran his hands over Ty’s body. Ty only pushed himself into Kit’s touch and pushed his hand into Kit’s hair. He applied kisses to his nipples and every mole he could find, and every step of the way he told Ty how beautiful he was. He even kissed the now very prominent ‘V’ line Ty had, stopping at the waistband of his sweat pants. Kit looked up at him and Ty met his gaze and nodded.
“By the angel, please, Kit,” he groaned. “Just don’t stop,” And how could Kit ever deny Ty’s requests. That wouldn’t be very nice, now would it? Just as slow as he removed his own pants, Kit removed Ty’s.
Kit has been very aware for plenty of time that everything about Ty amazes him. Everytime he gets to touch Ty, he feels like his body is on fire and he loves it. On fire like a firework. He didn’t realize he was staring at Ty’s barely covered cock until Ty gave his hair a gentle tug, he was panting too much to say anything other than Kit’s name and please.
Something else Kit was good at was being aware of his substances, and currently all of them were filled with Ty except one. Kit couldn’t wait to get his mouth on Ty. He licked a strip on the cloth over where Ty was only getting more and more hard. Ty jumped and moaned out. Kit then took to licking up the precum that had begun to pool.
“So loud,” Kit teased. Ty pulled his hair again and Kit couldn’t help but moan. Is this a kink or it is just because it’s Ty? Kit wondered before he set that question aside for a different day.
“Kit, off, please,” Ty panted. “Please Kit, just take them off. I need more, please.”
“Fuck,” Kit cursed to himself before (and much quicker than last time) taking off Ty’s boxers. And somewhere in the process, he lost his too. Whoops , he thought.
He wasted no time in putting his mouth experimentally on the tip. He licked up the remaining precum before slowly taking more and more of Ty in his mouth. And when he reached the bottom, he bobbed his head, getting lost in the taste of Ty.
“Fuck, Kit, come here,” Ty tugged his hair and pulled him up for a bruising kiss. It was sloppy, and Kit knew that but nothing they had done in the past 4 years had been anything but sloppy. Kit intertwined his hands with Ty’s hair like they were meant to be there forever.
Now he was satisfied. Ty had taken over every part of him and he could think of was Ty, Ty, Ty . That is until he felt Ty’s hand on him. On both of them actually. Kit let out a string of moans, trying to keep up with kissing Ty.
“You were too quiet,” Ty whispered against his lip, moving his hand up and down at a slow pace. “I want to hear you, Kit,” He breathed out. They moaned and groaned together. Spilling out each others’ names mixed with begging.
“Such a tease,” Kit said with a smile, which only made Ty speed up. They both only got louder and needier. “Ty, I’m close,” Ty nodded, feeling the same. They gave up trying to reconnect their lips until they both came with loud shudders.
TY
Ty laid with his head on Kit’s chest, listening to his breathing. He looked up at Kit to see him staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. Above him was a small pink star, twinkling. Ty didn’t even have the brain power to ask about it so instead he just gave Kit a soft kiss, not as rushed or heated as the other ones. The sun had been set, and rain tapped at Ty’s window.
“There’s a silencing rune on the door by the way,” Ty chuckled. Kit didn’t move, just stared at the ceiling, absentmindedly drawing circles on Ty’s back. “We’re gonna find them,” Ty whispered, knowing what was really plaguing Kit’s mind. He nodded and kissed Ty again.
“I know,” he said before kissing Ty on the head and sitting up. Ty felt his heart sink a little bit. But of course, it was like Kit could read his mind. “I’m going to shower.” He reassured but Ty shook his head playfully.
“Stay,” he whispered. Kit chuckled a bit before kissing Ty on the head again, still standing up and leaving Ty with blankets pooled at his waist.
“You can stay, but I,” He said, pointing at the cum on his stomach. “Need to shower.” Ty tilted his head, and Kit did too. A silent argument.
“But you’ll come back?” He sounded like a little kid. He sounded like he did the first time he asked Kit not to leave. Kit knew it too, Ty could tell. His eyes softened for the first time in hours.
“Of course,” He kissed the top of Ty’s head again and went into the (Ty’s) bathroom. Ty looked up again and the pink star was gone but all he could think about was Kit. He had invaded all of Ty’s senses, even while he waited for Kit to come back.
He kept his promise. And he did come back. But, he never said anything about staying. Ty realized this when he woke up and found an empty spot where Kit’s body was. He searched the entire institute in silence with no sign of Kit, even looking towards the beach but there was no blonde hair blowing in the wind.
He tried not to panic. He tried not to cry and go back to the night. When he got back to his room, there was a letter and a vile of murky green water he had missed sitting on his night stand. I never miss clues, he thought. When he opened it, Kit’s messy handwriting danced across the page.
I’m sorry, Ty. I just had to. But I know you, I know you’ll try to find me and I wouldn’t even try to evade you. So I’ll make it a bit easier.
Get to work, detective.

Chapter Text
TY
Pissed wasn’t even half of it. If there was any word more powerful than angry, furious, etc., that's what Ty was feeling. Kit was gone, again. At least he left a note, Ty tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. It wasn’t really working. He was still mad.
Kit asked him to be a detective, so he was going to be a detective. It was still early enough that no one else would be awake. He could investigate in peace so he started with the facts, everything he knew to currently be true. He made a list.
Kit left but also left him a note. He wants Ty to find him. But why make it a scavenger hunt?
They just had sex and he left. Ty still felt all syrupy and sweet and it was getting in his way.
Tessa and Jem were still gone. And that made Kit mad because he can’t do anything.
Kit is the first heir and has powers. But he doesn’t know how to use those powers.
The pink star. What was that pink star?
Despite his knowledge, there still weren’t enough questions. Too many statements, not enough questions. Ty took a deep breath and went down the list. Why make it a hunt? He thought. He looked back at the letter for any clues beside the vile of water Kit left with the note. He analyzed every single word.
Ty knew that Kit knew him well enough to know that every single thing matters. Every single word Kit wrote mattered. Evade, he thought. Kit knows where he’s going. I just had to, Kit couldn’t help himself. He was being reckless and he knew that. That’s why he left without a word, because Ty would tell him not to go. I would tell him not to go, Ty thought. And then it hit him.
“Time,” he whispered to himself. Kit needed time. He wasn’t trying to hide from Ty, he just needed time to get where he needed to go and do what he needed to do before Ty found him and inevitably tried to stop him. He wanted it to be too late for that.
Okay, Kit was out there doing something stupid. Check. But what? He thought back to every interaction with Kit from the day prior but all he could think about was what they did. He couldn’t stop thinking about Kit’s hands on him, and Kit’s mouth on him and Kit, Kit, Kit. He was still being all consumed by Kit. And he wasn’t even here.
Ty silently cursed to himself, and made the promise that when he found Kit to be mad at him for a multitude of reasons. Mad, Ty thought. Kit was mad yesterday. He was mad at Jules. Mad at Jules for not letting him go rescue Tessa and Jem, who are in Faerieland. Faerieland, Ty looked at the bottle of murky water Kit left him. Water that would be found in Faerieland. Kit can’t be there yet, but he could definitely be close.
“Shit,”
There was no telling how far Kit could be in the entirely too long time it took for Ty to figure out the mystery. Still, he strapped on his uniform that he would wear for patrols and stuffed small extra things into a bag before quietly making his way down to the training room and armory. When he arrived, Ty was more than displeased to find weapons already missing, namely the ones Kit had taken a liking to. He sighed heavily while strapping daggers and blades to himself.
“And where do you think you’re going?” a sing-songy voice rang from behind him. Ty didn’t jump when he turned to see Livvy’s ghost “leaning” in the doorway.
“To find Kit,” He answered simply while he looked for other weapons and things to shove in his backpack.
“That’s a lot of stuff to just be finding someone,” She was next to him now. When he looked at her, she had lowered herself to make herself slightly shorter than him, like she was when she was alive. When they were younger, Livvy would tell Ty about her dreams to be taller than everyone. But now that she could, she didn’t want to be. She just wanted to be close to him.
“I don’t know what kind of trouble he’s in,” Ty grumbled. He was never one to ignore his twin, but right now he was not in the mood for her sarcasm.
“Why do you assume he’s in trouble?” She asked reaching to let her hand fall through a dagger.
“When is he not in trouble?” Ty tilted his head at her. She smiled. He liked her smile.
“When he’s with you,” she giggled. Ty frowned.
“Well he’s not with me right now,” He grabbed one final weapon, a seraph blade, and strapped it to his belt.
“So all of this is just in case?” she raised her eyebrow at him.
“Yes,” He answered simply. He pushed his way out of the armory before suddenly feeling a pit in his stomach. “Do you know where Kit went, Livvy?” He finally turned completely to look at her, but she wasn’t looking at him. “Livvy?” He raised his voice slightly.
“Only where in the Shadow Market,” she admitted. Ty scoffed at her as he pushed the front doors open letting gentle light stream into the building for an instant before shutting them carefully. She appeared in front of him, but he just walked past her. “Ty, I swear by the angel I don’t know where he is now,” He stopped and looked at her.
“Take me there. Take me to where he went in the market,” He could see all over her face that she was worried. She had to know that he was worried too. He felt a lump in the bottom of his throat form.”Help me find him, please,” his voice cracked, too busy trying to fight back tears. Livvy nodded.
“I’ll help,” she whispered. “And you’ll find him,” she reassured and he nodded. He wished he could hug her. She missed Kit too, she loved Kit too.
“We’ll find him,” He wished he could hold her hand, but he settled for just having her next to him. It was all he had after all.
