"I should have known something was dreadfully wrong with Dante anyway" Peli said. She cleared her throat, and tried to lighten the mood. "He didn't even like Elvis"
"He didn't like Elvis?!" Din said. "Who doesn't like Elvis? He's a dish!"
"I know! He used to turn off my CD player when I put Elvis on, and he tried to get me to get rid of my clock"
Din glanced over at the kitchen, where the Elvis clock hung pride of place above the cooker, the pendulum legs swinging rhythmically.
"That should have been a red flag, especially since you've always liked him so much"
"I know. I still fancy Elvis"
"Me too! Remember I got you that book, the unseen archive thing? Some of the photos in there were truly something"
Peli laughed, shaking her head. "Yeah, that was a great little find"
"It was only 50p from a bric-a-brac stand too!"
"Splashing the cash, obviously"
"Only the best for my girl" Din grinned, putting an arm round her.
"Aww... You know, I still think Elvis is my ideal man"
"Shame you got stuck with me then"
"Oi! Don't. Although..." She peered at him. "You do have a bit of an Elvisy something about you. You do that thing with your lip too, although I don't think you know you're doing it"
"Huh. Well, I'll take that as a compliment"
"Please do"
"... Remember that time I sang The Wonder of You in the pub for you?"
"Oh god, that was really something. I honestly don't know how I didn't just cease to exist. You and that performance are the sole reason most of the people at our local have seen me cry"
Din laughed, amused but a little bashful at the memory.
"God... You certainly made everyone fall in love with you that night. I'd have been head over heels after that even if I wasn't already"
Din looked at her. "Are you blushing, Peli Motto?"
Peli shrugged, stepping away from him. "I'd always loved that song. Made me want to be the person it was about originally, you know?"
"Well, Elvis might have released it, but I always think it's a song for you"
Peli blushed more. "You're sweet..."
Din watched her for a moment. There was definitely something in the air here. He took a breath.
"Would you like to go and make love in the sun room?" He asked.
"Din! You naughty boy"
She walked away from him, stopping with her hand on the hallway doorframe. She looked over her shoulder at him, nodding toward the hall. Din hesitated, momentarily confused, but then he smiled happily and trotted after her, taking her hand. He'd be a fool to resist that look.
