Oops, I Did It...Sort of Again...

Summary:

Duke really should have moved out of the way of that motorcycle, but in his and Damian's defense, dodging a motorcycle thrown at you by Killer Croc is not an easy task.

Work Text:

            The injuries he had obtained were Bat related, because of course they were. Duke had totally signed up for this life when he, Isabella, Riko and Drury had created the We Are Robins movement. He was just one of the few, if not only, members to have continued on with the night life.

            So now he was in a hospital bed. Suffering. Because last night had been wild.

            And darn it, the pain really did just like to flare up at random, didn’t it. Man, this was annoying.

            Flopping his head back against the pillows, he let out a groan in annoyance as the pain in his side proceeded to burn and ache.

            The motorcycle really had come out of nowhere. And he wasn’t kidding, either. Killer Croc had a mean throw, and Duke was lucky enough to have been dragged partially out of the way by Damian.

            Kid wasn’t so bad when he wanted to be.

            But neither Duke nor Damian had been quick enough to react to the flying motorcycle of doom. It wasn’t that Duke hadn’t seen it, either. It was more like, Duke was a little too busy trying to shove civilians and henchmen alike out of the way and he may or may not have forgotten himself.

            The Bats had all been by to visit, taking Duke’s mind off the pain, and even some of Duke’s friends had come by. That had been nice. And his hospital room wasn’t bland anymore either, what with all the cards and stuff the others brought.

            Jason and Dick had even jokingly bought him a stupidly large floral arrangement.

            Shutting his eyes, Duke tried to ignore the pain for a bit, trying to force his constantly active brain to shut up so he might get some sleep like Leslie ordered. But…

            “Ice,” a voice said, causing Duke to snap his eyes open. “Leslie said will help.”

            Duke looked at Cassandra Cain, by far his favorite sibling in his new family (much to the complaints of the others). In one hand she held an ice pack that she carefully moved to push against Duke’s injured side. In the other, she had a cup of ice chips.

            “Sip,” Cass smiled, offering a chip to Duke. “Tastes good. Keeps mouth from drying.”

            Duke took a chip gladly.

            “Have I ever told you that you’re my favorite?”

            “All the time.”

Notes:

Duke gets a lot of outragous gifts after that, and he quickly learns that saying "no" to gifts means nothing because his new brothers are going to do what they want to outdo each other.
