- “I am NOT going trick or treating, Azula!”
- “Come on, Zuko, you know the rules. You lost a bet: this is the price”
Zuko huffed, unhappy with the results
- “How did you even go that fast?”
The teenager simply shrugged; a characteristic smirk on her face
- “A girl has her ways”
She reached for the candy they bought earlier and held one in her hands, as if reminding him of how all of that had started.
- “But really, won’t you honor our bet? Your word?
The older boy glared at her, defeated.
- “Ugh, fine!”
Azula reclined further in the kitchen counter with a triumphant (smug) expression.

There was a knock on the door. Great; just as she ran out of candy. Mai opened the door to find Zuko - a sixteen year old - in full skeleton costume, waiting expectantly with a bag of candy in his hands. She quirked an eyebrow
- “Aren’t you a little old to be going trick or treating?”
He grimaced
- “Azula made me come”
- “Hm. I’d give you candy, but I don’t have any. Would you like to come in?”
- “Yes. Thank you”
She moved to allow him to enter. Once he was inside, The girl closed the door and said:
- “So… Azula forced you to come trick or treating?”
The boy grunted
- “Yeah. And, again, thank you for inviting me in. Having to stop at almost every door in the neighbourhood was humiliating”
- “You’re welcome. By the way, how did that happen?”
- “Remember how me and Azula were competing to see who could get more candy yesterday?”
She nodded
- "Well, then you must remember how I lost"
- "You do know she cheated, right?”
- “What?”
He asked, his eyes growing a bit wide
- “Ty Lee helped her. I thought you knew”
The look in his face was of betrayal
- “I can’t believe it… Actually, I totally can. Ugh, I should have realised! That bitch”
- “That’s something we’ll have to agree on”
Zuko spoke again, eager to change the subject
- “Uhm… So… Where’s Tom-Tom? And your parents?”
Mai sighed
- “They’re not here. Apparently there was a halloween party for babies and toddlers somewhere in the city or something. But I guess that’s good. Now we have the whole house to ourselves.
Unless, of course, you still have to finish going around the neighbourhood asking for candy”
He blushed at the mention of the “lost” bet and rubbed the back of his neck
- “Uhm… Considering Azula cheated, I don’t have to anymore. And I’m sure that we had more than enough candy at home, anyways”
- “Good. So that means you can stay”
She threw her arms around his neck, and they both leaned forward to close the gap. After a moment, the kisses started to heat, and she pulled apart to say:
- “Let’s go to the couch. I have an idea of what we can do”
He grinned at her words
- “Really?”
- “Yeah. Watch a horror movie. It’s Halloween, after all”
The firebender looked mildly disappointed
- “A horror movie?”
- “What? Expecting something else?”
His whole face went red
- “N-no. Totally not…”
- “You know, Zuko, this is the living room; and I’m not exactly looking forward to being caught by my parents and baby brother once they come back”
Somehow he grew even more flushed, scrunching up his nose in embarrassment
- “Horror movies it is”
She snickered and pressed a kiss to his cheek, then pulled him by the hand to the couch. When they were settled, she said:
- “By the way, if we want more privacy later, we could always go to my room”
He placed a kiss to her hair
- “Sounds good to me”

Much later that night (when he thankfully had already found a spare change of clothes at Mai’s house), Zuko was heading home. Once he got there, he found his sister and Ty Lee watching ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ - which was definitely the latter’s choice. Azula barely moved her eyes from the TV before saying:
- “Arriving so late, Zuzu? Most kids went back to their places hours ago”
- “You cheated!”
- “That’s absurd. Where did you get that from?”
- “Mai told me”
The younger sibling pouted slightly
- “That traitor”
She murmured. Finally, the blue firebender turned to face her brother, her eyebrows twisting for a fraction of second before a malicious grin was formed in her face
- “You’re not wearing your costume, and you took this long to come back…”
With an expression of feign innocence, she continued:
- “Could your visit to Mai have been more than just a front-door encounter?”
Zuko felt the heat coming to his cheeks
- “It’s none of your business”
He said angrily
- “Ooh, you’re right, Azula! It does seem like he was there for a while”
The acrobat said, suddenly entering the conversation
- “Whatever”
He said, before going to his room and closing the door with a thud.
