A calm, feminine voice told them that the plane was boarding soon. This would be their last chance to say goodbye.
“I gotta run and catch my flight,” Izuku told Rody.
“Do me a solid, and stick to Japan, ‘kay?” he asked in reply, vaguely gesturing with his hand and facing away from Izuku to look out the window wall. The sun was setting, casting a familiar orangy-gold light over them. He shook his head, almost in a disapproving manner as he chided, “Nothing good happens when you’re around. Probably best if you stay in your lane.”
Tears welled up in Pino’s eyes. Despite Rody’s indifferent exterior, he was dejected at the thought of Izuku’s departure. So, Izuku set his silver suitcase down and enveloped the Otheonian in a warm embrace.
“I’ll come back and visit for sure,” the hero promised.
Tentatively, Rody returned the affection.
“Yeah, like I care.”
Izuku sighed. Pino was still bawling. Izuku never wanted to let go. Sadly, he had a flight to catch, so he carefully unwrapped his arms from Rody.
“Goodbye,” Izuku bid, something he wished he never had to do.
“Bye,” he rasped in return.
Izuku turned away to join the others. He was halfway to the escalator when Rody’s voice called out to him.
“Aren’t you forgetting something, Hero?”
Confused, he walked back towards Rody. Did Rody want… a kiss goodbye or something? Izuku sometimes saw exchanges like that in American movies. She’d callout to him and he’d give her a peck before he was off. Izuku had the urge to indulge himself the whole road trip but never did (god, he fell so easily). It would be awkward. If Rody did want one though…
Izuku leaned forward, brushing his lips against the brunette’s cheek. When he pulled back, he was met with a very calm Rody and a very flustered bird.
Rody gulped, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. “I meant your suitcase, but that works too, I guess.”
Heat flushed his face. Oh no, he messed up. Crap. Ahhhh. Rody would look at him like he was crazy and it’d never be the same between them. Why did Izuku hope that Rody felt like he did? He should have gotten confirmation. Assuming was the last thing he should’ve done. Now Rody hates him. No future calls or messages or letters or anything because Rody isn’t the type to lead people on. All they would be was awkward strangers.
Rody being the first and last thing he’d see every day? Nope. Their banter that he loved so much? Never again. The sound of Rody’s sweet and smooth voice? Gone. Everything he loved about Rody was banished from his life.
He really fucked up.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that, haha. I-I’ll be off then—” He picked up the case and made to leave when he was interrupted by a firm hand on his shoulder.
“Izuku.” Steeled gray met fluorescent green. “Can I kiss you? Please?” All Izuku could do was nod as Rody pulled him by the waist and their lips met.
His nose filled with the brunette’s scent; maple syrup and pancakes on a sleepy morning. Rody’s lips were soft on his. Chapped, yes, but soft nonetheless. And he needed more. Izuku shifted his head, deepening their kiss. With his free hand, he cupped Rody’s cheek. It felt like Izuku was on cloud nine, like it was just them, the rest of the world be damned. Unfortunately, the world took offence to that declaration.
“Deku, hurry the fuck up! And quit making out with Street Rat, you’re in public for Christ’s sake,” Bakugou (more like Bakagou) screeched from the balcony, alerting everyone in the airport of the pair’s PDA. They quickly broke apart, embarrassed by the sudden attention. Pino looked up at the explosive blonde with disdain.
Izuku’s blushed deepened as he sheepishly scratched the nape of his neck. “W-well, I’d better get going. Keep in touch?”
“Yeah, no.”
Ebullianlty, Pino nodded her head. Content with the bird’s answer, he smiled.
He could have sworn he heard Pino trying to follow him up the moving steps of the escalator.
Up on the second floor, Bakugou yelled at Izuku for “messing with a dirty thief” and something about losing(?). After he finished his long-winded talk (they had been seated a while ago), Todoroki spoke the broccoli-headed teen.“I didn’t think someone like you would be bold enough to get some in front of so many people, Midoriya.” Frazzled by the comment, Izuku told him spent too much time with Ashido and Kaminari (and he and Rody did not “get some”. That implied something present Izuku was nowhere near ready for).
“Bakugou-kun owes me five thousand yen. He thought you guys would be ‘too chicken’.”
“You bet on us?!” he was incredulous of the Todoroki Shouto making bets. And with Bakugou of all people.
“Yes.” It was rhetorical but that’s just Todoroki for you.
“Wait, how did you win if you both thought we wouldn’t kiss?”
“I didn’t want to agree with Bakugou-kun,” Todoroki replied.
Izuku huffed. “You guys are too much. I’m going to sleep.”
“Goodnight, Midoriya.”
Izuku dreamed of golden glows and early mornings.
